Lewis Hamilton warned he’ll face PRISON along with other Brit F1 drivers if they flout strict Hungarian GP quarantine

LEWIS HAMILTON and his fellow British F1 drivers have been told they may face PRISON if they breach strict isolation rules this weekend in Hungary.
The draconian punishment has been threatened for all Brits working in Formula One by Hungarian ministers – but not for fellow Europeans.

Despite the announcement of “air bridges” between the UK and Hungary, all British nationals involved in the race are only allowed to travel to and from their hotels and the Hungaroring.
It means that Hamilton, Lando Norris or George Russell – plus around 1,700 others making the journey in teams and media – could face a spell in jail, or up to a €15,000 (£13,400) fine, if they breach protocol.
F1 teams have been told they MUST eat at the track or their hotels, with stopping for petrol or to buy a bottle of water, potentially landing them in hot water.
Hamilton, who will sleep at the track in a motorhome to avoid any unnecessary risks, said: “I was only made aware of it before qualifying.

“It doesn’t affect me because I stay at the track, but there will be protocols in place for the team.
“They have been fantastic in terms of how they have managed their bubble during this time.
“I don’t know how their set-up will be and it is unfortunate that unlike us, they cannot stay at the track.
“It is a challenge but these are challenging times and why we are taking it very seriously.”

F1’s governing body, the FIA, had hoped to get an exemption for all of those who have been part of the bubble given the strict testing protocols for Covid-19.

Mclaren ace Norris added: “We have to be at track or hotel but I am happy with room service everyday.
“I can watch Netflix and play Call of Duty but there will be limitations. I cannot go out for a cycle or a run.”

LEWIS HAMILTON secured the 90th pole position of his career ahead of Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
The British star, 35, is chasing a record-equalling eighth victory at the Hungaroring – levelling legend Michael Schumacher’s Magny Cours haul.

And Hamilton put himself in a great position to do just that with a TRACK RECORD lap to secure his spot at the front of the grid.
The Mercedes star posted an unbelievable time of 1:13.447, with Bottas second on 1:13.554.
Hamilton became the first-ever racer to hit the 90-poles milestone – with the second-most successful qualifier in history Schumacher, way back on 68.
Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez stunned the grid to take P3 and P4 for Sunday’s race.

Ferrari stars Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc completed the third row for Sunday’s race in fifth and sixth respectively – behind the Mercedes pair and Racing Point duo.
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen took seventh, ahead of McLaren pair Norris and Sainz.
Gasly took tenth after sitting out Q3.

Racing Point stars Perez and Stroll set the tone early, finishing first and second in Q1, respectively.

In the first session, Hamilton came in third, with Mercedes duo Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris in fourth and firth respectively.
F1 legend Kimi Raikkonen finished dead-last in his Alfa Romeo, nearly two seconds adrift of Perez.
Kevin Magnussen (Haas), Daniil Kvyat (Alpha Tauri), Romain Grosjean (Haas) and Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo) were also eliminated.
And some huge names then fell in Q2, with Daniel Ricciardo and Renault team-mate Esteban Ocon both out.

    INTERESTING FROM FERRARInn
FERRARI have admitted for the first time that a clampdown on their controversial engine is slowing them down.n
The Italian team were the subject of much accusation last year, with rival teams hinting that their engine was illegal.n
Controversially, the findings of an FIA investigation were kept private – much to the frustration of non-Ferrari powered teams.n
But since the rules were clarified through a series of technical directives (TD), Ferrari have been embarrassingly off the pace and boss Mattia Binotto says it is because the FIA has flexed its muscles.n
He said: “Certainly I think that regulations are very difficult and complex. There are areas of regulations on the power unit where maybe clarifications are still required, it’s an ongoing process, which has always existed in the past and will exist in the future.n
“Since last year a lot of TDs have been released, eventually clarifying some of the areas of regulations, through those TDs, we had to adapt ourselves.n
“I don’t think it is only the case with Ferrari, because looking at the power output of this season I think most manufacturers somehow had to adapt themselves but certainly as Ferrari we had to adapt and as a simple output of that we lost some of the performance we had.n
“Now we’ve got a clearer situation in some areas of the regulations and that will continue if required for the future.”n”,”raw”:”
