F1 star Romain Grosjean shows off horror burns on hand 12 months on from fireball crash at Bahrain GP

ROMAN GROSJEAN has revealed the shocking scars on his hands 12 months on from his horror Formula 1 crash. The former Haas driver, who retired at the end of the 2020 season, was engulfed in flames after crashing at 140mph at last year’s Bahrain Grand Prix.
Grosjean’s right hand looks to have nearly fully recovered
But his left hand clearly still has severe burn marks all over it

Incredibly, he managed to jump out of the car and escape with only injuries to his hands.
But they remain there to this day and he recently showed what condition they are in on 2016 F1 world champion Nico Rosberg’s podcast.
When holding up his hands to show Rosberg, Grosjean added: “The right is good, the left a little less good.”
The Swiss-Frenchman was only saved by his Haas’ halo device and racing suit, new for the 2020 season and designed to withstand flames for 20 seconds.
And in the aftermath of the crash he talked through the torturous moments when he realised the severity of the incident.
He said: “To come out of the flames that day is something that will mark my life forever.

Grosjean was incredibly fortunate to survive the crashCredit: Splash
“I have a lot of people who have shown me love and it has touched me a lot, and at times I get a bit teary-eyed.
“I don’t know if the word miracle exists or if it can be used, but in any case I would say it wasn’t my time [to die].
“It felt much longer than 28 seconds. I saw my visor turning all orange, I saw the flames on the left side of the car.
“I thought about a lot of things, including Niki Lauda, and I thought that it wasn’t possible to end up like that, not now. I couldn’t finish my story in Formula One like that.
“And then, for my children, I told myself that I had to get out. I put my hands in the fire, so I clearly felt it burning on the chassis.
“I got out, then I felt someone pulling on the suit, so I knew I was out.” More

Inside the stunning Monaco lives of F1’s mega rich drivers including Hamilton as Norris makes move to Monte Carlo

LANDO NORRIS will join his fellow F1 drivers in moving to Monte Carlo. The Bristol-born star, 22, revealed he was swapping Woking for tax-haven Monaco, after the final Grand Prix of the season.
Lando Norris is the latest F1 star who has announced he’s moving to Monte CarloCredit: Rex
He said: “I’m moving to Monaco after [the final race in] Abu Dhabi for the reasons you probably expect.
“It’s something that obviously a lot of drivers go to do, and especially with how racing is – I think you’ve seen it with a lot of the drivers, how quickly things can also go downhill.”
Norris will be joining the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Daniel Ricciardo, Charles Leclerc, and Valtteri Bottas in the Principality.
And they all boast incredible lifestyles that are the envy of sports stars around the globe.
From sailing on the Mediterranean sea to cycling on the streets, these racers have got it made.
    LEWIS HAMILTON
The seven-time world champion, who has a reported net worth of around £300million, has homes all across the globe.
But for much of the year, Hamilton snubs his London mansion, New York penthouse and Colorado ranch for a life in Monaco.
Although not much is known about where his property is, he once shared a snap of his wonderful view.
He captioned a photo on social media: “A place I call home, Monte Carlo. I am so blessed to live in such an incredible place. God is really shining down on me today.
“Sending you light & love for your day. On my way to Spa, let’s do this!!!”
It is believed he resides in the exclusive Fontvieille district.
Back in 2007, it was reported he was interested in a 2,000sq ft, four-bedroom duplex with views across the Mediterranean in Fontvieille’s Seaside Plaza.
Speaking of the Mediterranean, Hamilton has been seen enjoying watersports during his time away from the circuit.

    MAX VERSTAPPEN
The contender to Hamilton’s throne, Verstappen’s lifestyle in Monaco is more paired down than his rival’s.
But that said, it’s clear he doesn’t skimp either. The Dutch star is said to rent an apartment that’s worth around £16million.
His home is believed to be in the same apartment block as Felipe Massa and Daniel Ricciardo, which he was once filmed allegedly entering drunk after a night out.
During the first lockdown, he gave us a glimpse into his home when he shared his workouts from his balcony that overlooks the Mediterranean sea.
It’s also where girlfriend, Brazilian model Kelly Piquet lives with him.
Verstappen is said to have a car collection in Monaco to die for, and recently ordered the £2million Aston Martin Valkyrie.
And like his speedy nemesis Hamilton, he likes watersports to – often seen whizzing around on a Red Bull sponsored jet-ski.

    DANIEL RICCIARDO
Like Hamilton, Ricciardo has other abodes, most notably in Beverly Hills and in Perth.
But, when the former Monaco Grand Prix winner is competing he lives in his comfortable one bedroom pied-à-terre in the city.
And he absolutely loves living in Monaco, as his Instagram reveals.
He drives a super fast McLaren 720S around time, worth around £215,000.
And when he’s not on four wheels, he takes his scooter for a drive around the Monaco Grand Prix circuit.
Of the Grand Prix, the Aussie has revealed how the city changes when it’s race weekend.
“It feels like a real racetrack, and I’m not thinking ‘there’s a cafe I eat at’ or ‘there’s a street I ride my Vespa down’ or whatever,” he revealed.
“You wake up in your own bed, kick around your apartment and then start the journey to work.”

    VALTTERI BOTTAS
The Finnish driver lives with Australian professional cyclist Tiffany Cromwell in the city.
However, they opt for a more private life in Monte Carlo, like they do in his homeland, where he owns a beautiful lakeside holiday home.
He did share his stunning view from his apartment balcony overlooking the harbour once upon a time though, giving fans a glimpse into his lifestyle.
Bottas also has the cycling bug, often competing in races around Monaco in his spare time.
When he’s not driving a race car, Bottas is seen driving his £115,000 Mercedes-AMG GT.
To keep fit, Bottas goes running around the Monaco Grand Prix circuit he races on.

    CHARLES LECLERC
Leclerc is born and bred in Monaco, so he has absolutely no reason to leave.
He has a luxury apartment, which he lives in with gorgeous girlfriend Charlotte Sine.
Hilariously, when she was locked out of the home, Charlotte had to subscribe to his Twitch channel because he couldn’t hear her as he was playing a racing simulator and had a headset on.
“So my girlfriend had to subscribe to my twitch channel to tell me to open the door,” he later revealed on Twitter.
Leclerc has a gang of friends he loves spending the summers with.

They hop on board his £1.5million yacht, Monza and cruise around the Mediterannean.
And when he’s not on sea, he’s on grass on the golf course working on his handicap.
It’s a glam life that awaits Lando Norris, when he makes his move to Monte Carlo.

Lando Norris will move to Monte Carlo at end of F1 season as £4.5m-a-year Brit follows in Lewis Hamilton’s footsteps

LANDO NORRIS will swap Woking for Monte Carlo after becoming the latest F1 star to move to the principality.Norris, 22, has had an excellent season with McLaren and is in fifth place in the drivers’ championship.

Norris had stated three years ago he has no intention of living in money-mad MonacoCredit: Alamy
The Bristol-born racer, who grew up near Glastonbury, has taken four podiums and agonisingly missed out on his first victory at the Russia GP when he slid off in the wet.
Likeable Norris will join the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Daniel Ricciardo, Valtteri Bottas and Alex Albon living in the tax haven.
And while he knows there will be some who will criticise his decision to swap the UK for Monaco, he says it makes financial sense.
Norris had declared in 2018 and again in April that had no intention to move to Monaco, but he has now had a change of heart.
He said: “I’m moving to Monaco after [the final race in] Abu Dhabi for the reasons you probably expect.
“It’s something that obviously a lot of drivers go to do, and especially with how racing is – I think you’ve seen it with a lot of the drivers, how quickly things can also go downhill.

“I still have to look after my life and things for my future so that’s why I had to make the decision.
“I went with my managers and my trainer and we had a little look around a few different apartments and stuff.
“I was like ‘I don’t want to be in the same place as Max!’. I don’t know where Lewis is? He’s on the opposite side… I don’t know anybody else over there.
“But I’m around that area in Fontvieille, which is a nice, quiet place.”
There are similarities to Hamilton when he moved to Switzerland in 2007. Like Norris is now, Hamilton was 22 at the time.
He was also driving for McLaren and had secured a lucrative deal, but his switch earned him plenty of criticism – and still does.
Interestingly, Norris has picked to live in Fontvieille, a location picked by Jenson Button during his racing days, who did not get nearly as much stick as Hamilton.
When Norris is quizzed if he knew about the criticism Hamilton received, he replies, “Yes. Of course I’ll understand it, and there’s going to be some, for sure”.

Norris signed a new McLaren deal in the summer that is estimated to be worth around £4.5million-a-year.
He currently shares a house near their factory, picked so he could make regular trips to use the simulator, helping him get up to speed with F1.
But after his standout season, he feels more established in the sport however he says he has not taken the decision to move lightly.
He added: “I signed my contract this year. I think I’ve still got a few more years!
“It doesn’t change anything, like it doesn’t mean I’ll do any less days work at McLaren.
“I’ll still be spending my days in the UK preparing and doing that side of it. And I still get to see my family and my friends and all of that.

🏁 F1 2021 calendar: practice times, dates and racetrack info
“It’s not an easy decision, and it’s not something I’ve been thinking of for many years. I just think I’m in a comfortable place at the minute to make this decision and spend the time to move over there.
“I’ll still see a lot of my friends. My family are going to come over. Many things remain exactly the same. It’s just that I’m based in a different place.
“Maybe I won’t get to play as much golf, which is probably the biggest downside!” More

Lewis Hamilton should be booted to back of Saudi Arabian GP grid over ‘spicy’ new engine, says F1 rival Alonso

LEWIS HAMILTON should be booted to the back of the grid, according to Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard is unhappy that Hamilton is set for an engine change for this weekend’s Saudi Arabian GP – a power unit labelled as ‘spicy’ by Merc boss Toto Wolff.
Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso were on the podium in QatarCredit: Reuters
Hamilton got a five-place grid drop in Brazil for taking the engine that was one more than his allocation of three for the season.
It triggered a sanction but it still powered him to an unlikely victory in Sao Paulo, despite starting in 10th.
Hamilton’s title rival, Max Verstappen, said at the time the Brit could take a new engine at every remaining race – and still go on to win the championship, despite the penalties.
And two-time world champion Alonso agrees and says there should be harsher punishments for any driver who takes more than three engines in a season.
He said: “Those who have exceeded a certain number of engines per year should be sent to the back of the grid.”
Hamilton has managed to reel in Verstappen’s advantage and whittle it down to just eight points with two races remaining.

Mercedes are the favourites for this weekend’s inaugural GP in Saudi Arabia.
The high-speed track is still being finished and 1996 world champion Damon Hill says he is worried about the safety of the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.
He said: “The track, we’re going to discover, it’s going to be a big challenge by the looks of things.
“I’m a bit worried about the speed. There’s not much run-off. They’ve got the SAFER barrier that they’re using, which is like they do in Indianapolis, but it’s going to be very high speed and not much run-off.
“So high-risk, high jeopardy. That always gets your attention as a racing driver.
“It’s a completely different type of track. It’s got banked corners. Some of the sweeps look quite long, so it could be a cross between something like Singapore and Baku.
“I think it’s great that nobody knows where they’re going. This is a completely unknown place, an unknown track and it’s at that crucial point in the championship.”

He came third behind the two Mercedes driven by Lewis Hamilton – pole – and Valtteri Bottas in second.
The tattoo delay was said to be because the pandemic made it difficult to organise.

Fans in hysterics as ‘Daft Punk reunite’ at Ballon d’Or ceremony to deliver Lionel Messi’s seventh trophy to stage

LIONEL MESSI thought he was up all night to Get Lucky. When it was One More Time to deliver the Argentine’s seventh Ballon d’Or trophy to the stage last night, it appeared that Daft Punk had reunited to do the honours.

Two men walked to the stage wearing dapper suits – but kept their identities under wraps by wearing helmets similar to those worn by the iconic French dance music duo.
It turned out the mystery delivery men were none other than F1 superstars Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon.
The Alpine drivers delivered the Men’s and Women’s awards on stage wearing their F1 helmets.
Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi won the coveted trophy for a record seventh time, proving yet again he was Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger.
Barcelona skipper Alexia Putellas scooped the female award.
And while Messi pipping Robert Lewandowski to the individual honour proved to be a talking point, fans were also left in stitches by Alonso and Ocon’s appearance.

The pair arrived on stage wearing grey suits and helmets to cover their faces, before being prompted by hosts Didier Drogba and Sandy Heribert to reveal their identities.
They were greeted to a roar of applause after being unmasked, with the likes of Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Luis Suarez seen smiling in the audience.
Twitter users joked they thought Daft Punk had got back together following their split in February after 28 years together.
One messaged: “I thought they reunited Daft Punk for this lol.”
Another quipped: “Gonna tell my kids this was Daft Punk.”
A third added: “So… Ocon and Alonso gone in Daft Punk’s Cosplay, delivering the Ballon D’or? Or Daft Punk were Alonso and Ocon all this time??”
Meanwhile one commented: “Disappointed because I thought Daft Punk had reunited for a moment.”
One simply stated: “Tears I thought Daft Punk reunited for a second ffs.”
Another tweeted: “I think the greatest part about the Ballon D’Or Ceremony was the fact that Alonso and Ocon are Daft Punk.”
During Messi’s winner speech, the Blaugrana legend called on the Ballon d’Or to award Lewandowski the award for 2020.
The trophy was not given out last year after Covid restrictions forced organisers to cancel the annual event.
Lionel Messi beat Robert Lewandowski by 33 votes to win his seventh Ballon d’Or award
Messi remarked: “I would like to mention Robert Lewandowski, it’s been a real honour to compete with you.
“Everyone knows and we agree that you were the winner last year.
“I think France Football should award you your 2020 Ballon d’Or – you deserve it and you should have it at home.”

Hamilton – chasing an eighth world F1 title next month – shared a picture of the pair posing together, the two embracing and a short video hugging at an event.
In a heartfelt message, the British racing driver wrote to his 25.4million Instagram followers: “I’ve spent the last day trying to think of what to say, but words fail me as I try to accept the reality of Virgil’s passing.
“Yesterday’s news left me in shock. Virgil and I were just texting a couple weeks ago about working together, collaborating and dreaming. One minute you’re here and the next you’re gone.
“Virgil showed us that dreams, no matter how big they are, can always be turned into reality. He was a visionary, somebody that forever pushed boundaries and never let anything or anyone hold him back.
“He was always the kindest in the room and in his short time, was a true game-changer and inspired so many of us to see fashion in a different light.
“An icon and legend that will forever live on — we will never forget what he did for Black culture.

“I am so entirely grateful to him for always including me, seeing me and supporting me.
“My thoughts and prayers are with his loving wife Shannon and his two children Lowe and Grey. There’s nothing more precious than time.”
Abloh founded fashion brand Off-White in 2012, collaborated closely with Kanye West and was also the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection from 2018 until his death.
With Hamilton also passionate about fashion, the pair struck up a friendship.
In addition to being a fashion designer, Abloh was also an entrepreneur and DJ.
He earned a Civil Engineering degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and went on to get a Master’s Degree in Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
But American Abloh had secretly been suffering with a rare, aggressive form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma, for the past two years.
And after a brave battle, he passed away at the weekend as the devastating news was announced on his Instagram page.
Tributes continue to pour in for Abloh, with the Instagram post garnering more than 5million likes and 157,000 comments.
Designer Marc Jacobs commented on the Instagram post: “I am so sorry to read this. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.
