      F1 legend Lewis Hamilton faces FIA action at glitzy Monaco Grand Prix unless he backs down amid fierce jewellery row

      LEWIS HAMILTON could be hit by FIA sanctions if he wears jewellery at this month’s Monaco Grand Prix.The FIA have clamped down on rules forbidding drivers wearing jewellery this year, including earrings, rings and nose studs.

      Hamilton has defied the rules so far this season and is adamant the FIA is wrong about jewellery being a safety hazard.
      The Mercedes star was granted a two-race medical exemption at Miami and Barcelona as some of his piercings cannot easily be taken out.
      But by the time the Monaco GP rolls around at the end of the month Hamilton must be bling free – or face the consequences.
      If found to be in breach of the rules once again Hamilton could incur a big fine or be given penalty points by the FIA.

      ‘Fake’ Miami Grand Prix fell flat and race was dull but winner Max Verstappen looks nailed on for F1 title

      I AM still undecided if the Miami Grand Prix was a success or not.
      It all felt fake and, let’s be honest, as a race it was a rather dull spectacle.

      But what I do know from seeing Max Verstappen win again is that he looks nailed-on to retain his world crown.
      Formula One’s new showpiece was always going to split opinion. I referred to the Miami GP in these pages as more of a trade show for corporate guests, rather than an F1 race.
      The hope was that by making it all look pretty, including a fake marina, and by having a party vibe, it would attract the TV audiences, too.
      Unfortunately, it seems that despite all the impressive set-building, they forgot to hire a decent camera operator to record the action.

      Too many replays, too many shots of the fans in the grandstands, too little action as around half of the 45 overtakes were missed from the live transmission.
      No doubt, when F1 get to see their TV numbers, particularly in the United States, they will be rather pleased, which is all very well and good.
      I just wished we’d had a belting race because even the newest of F1 fans can see through the sugar- coating of whoever labelled this GP exciting.

      Quick-witted Brundle responded with an excellent riposte, saying “and modest, too”.

      SAYONARA SUZUKI?
      IT has been a week since reports that Suzuki will quit MotoGP at the end of the season.
      The bombshell that the Japanese manufacturer would pull out was dropped after a one-day test at Jerez — but there has been no official word yet from Suzuki.

      And Wolff insists they are not in the business of ripping up the design and starting again, but he does say the next race at Barcelona could be the turning point.

      But Walker revealed last year that the seven-time world champion is the cream of the crop because he has never used dirty tactics to win races.

      “You have to bear in mind that I’m an old codger. I was actually at the first grand prix they held at Silverstone in 1948 — and that was before Formula One even began.
      “In those days of course the engine was in front of the driver, the driver wasn’t wearing any safety clothing.
      “They used to wear a skullcap and no crash helmet. The medical facilities were absolutely minimal, the cars were mobile deathtraps.

      MAX VERSTAPPEN won the maiden F1 Miami Grand Prix, holding off a late surge from runner-up Charles Leclerc. Lewis Hamilton finished in sixth, one place behind his Mercedes team-mate George Russel as Carlos Sainz came third and Sergio Perez placed fourth.
      It was a horror race for McClaren’s Lando Norris, who crashed out on Lap 41 after a collision with Pierre Gasly.

      Bottas went very wide and Hamilton took full advantage, breezing past his ex- teammate. Russel then gets past the Alpha Romeo driver.
      Gasly forced into early retirement
      The Frenchman’s collision with Norris has been deemed too serious for him to continue.
      He is the third driver to retire today.

      There are 0.65 seconds between Verstappen and Leclerc. The Ferrari man will have DRS on the next lap.
      Sainz then shut the door on Perez to retain third place, for now.
