Why isn’t Robert Lewandowski playing for Bayern Munich against PSG tonight in the Champions League?

BAYERN MUNICH are hosting PSG in the Champions League quarter-finals tonight. However, they will be without key man Robert Lewandowski, who is unavailable for selection.

Why isn’t Robert Lewandowski playing for Bayern against PSG?
Robert Lewandowski has been ruled out of the Champions League clash with a knee injury.
The 32-year-old limped off in Poland’s 3-0 win over Andorra during the international break after scoring two goals.
How long will Robert Lewandowski be out for?
Robert Lewandowski’s club, Bayern Munich, had hoped he would be able to play in Saturday’s title clash against RB Leipzig.
After his initial assessment, the club’s medical staff rated his chances of being fit for that game at 50/50.
However, it has now been revealed that the Pole is set for a one-month layoff.
A Bayern statement read: “Robert Lewandowski has strained a ligament in his right knee.
“The FC Bayern striker will be out for around four weeks.
“After Poland’s 3-0 win over Andorra, Lewandowski returned early to Munich, where a diagnosis was made by the German record champions’ medical team.
“The 32-year-old had scored the first two goals in Sunday’s match, before having to leave the field after an hour following a clash.”

Which other matches will Robert Lewandowski miss?
As well as the crucial matches between England and Poland and RB Leipzig and Bayern, Lewandowski will miss key games in his club’s Champions League campaign.
The striker is now certain to miss both legs of Bayern Munich’s quarter-final with PSG – a repeat of last year’s final.
Should the Germans beat the Parisians, they will play Man City or Borussia Dortmund in the semi-final, with those games taking place on the weeks of April 27/28 and May 4/5.
It is not yet known whether Lewandowski will be fit for one or both legs of a potential Champions League semi-final. More

Do away goals count when Champions League games are at neutral venues? Full Uefa 2020/21 rules

THE Champions League quarter-final stages are getting underway as we discover the teams that will make it to the semis. But how do away goals work in the competition?
    Credit: AFP or licensors
Do away goals count in extra time of Champions League and Europa League matches?
AS ever, away goals count if the game finishes a draw on aggregate after 90 minutes.
Uefa were considering changing the rule but for now it will remain the same.
So extra time can only happen if the same reverse scoreline appears in both games and the two teams have the same amount of away goals.
Here’s the Uefa guidelines on what happens next: “For matches played under the knockout system, if the two teams involved in a tie score the same number of goals over the two legs, the team which scores more away goals qualifies for the next stage.

“If this procedure does not produce a result, i.e. if both teams score the same number of goals at home and away, two 15-minute periods of extra time are played at the end of the second leg.
“If both teams score the same number of goals during extra time, away goals count double (i.e. the visiting team qualifies).
“If no goals are scored during extra time, kicks from the penalty mark determine which team qualifies for the next stage.”
So if we reach extra time and EITHER team scores within the added 30 minutes, there is NO chance of the game going to penalties.
If the away team manages to score in extra time, away goals kick in and the home side must net twice to progress.
Do away goals count for Champions League and Europa League ties at neutral venues?
Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City, Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal have all, at some stage, played the away legs of their European ties at neutral venues.
However, away goals WILL apply to all two-legged ties in Uefa competitions this season.
Porto are up against Chelsea this evening in their home leg of the quarter-finals, but both legs will be played at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in Seville, Spain. More

Why isn’t Real Madrid vs Liverpool at the Bernabeu?
Real Madrid haven’t been playing at the Bernabeu this season because of an extensive renovation project which is underway at the historic stadium.
Real president Florentino Perez had always planned for the stadium to be renovated, but the coronavirus pandemic brought forward those plans.
The Bernabeu will have a different, more modern appearance, when it reopens in the summer of 2022.
It could however, be finished sooner, as work began three months earlier than scheduled.

Perez said: “Our future naturally involves a new Santiago Bernabeu stadium, a reference of the 21st century.
“A modern, avant-garde stadium, with maximum comfort and safety, with state-of-the-art technology, where fans can experience unique sensations and also be a new and important source of income for the club.”
The new stadium will have a completely new exterior, fitted with a retractable roof.
An underground car park will also be an extra added feature.
Where is Real Madrid vs Liverpool being played?
Real Madrid have played all of their home matches at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium this season.
And they will do the same against Liverpool, who they play on Tuesday, April 6.
The Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium is where Real Madrid Castilla, the club’s reserve side, play their home clashes.

The stadium allows for up to 6,000 fans, a far cry from the 80,000 which can fill the Bernabeu.
But due to the coronavirus, Real have played all their games this season without the presence of fans.
Once fans do return, however, there’s the possibility that Real will share rivals Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano until the Bernabeu is finished. More
