And once the ball hit the back of the net, Arnautovic wheeled away to celebrate in bizarre fashion, angering North Macedonia players.
UEFA have now suspended Arnautovic for Austria’s clash with Holland.
What did Marko Arnautovic say in his celebration?
Austria were already in command of their Euro 2020 clash when Arnautovic scored to make it 3-1.
The former Stoke striker was quick to celebrate in emphatic fashion, shouting and pointing at North Macedonia players and supporters in the process.
Austria captain David Alaba had to restrain Arnautovic from saying too much more and grabbed the 32-year-old by the face to tell him to stop.

The Football Federation of Macedonia have since called for UEFA to investigate what exactly Arnautovic said to North Macedonia’s players.
It’s been reported in Serbia that that Arnautovic made derogatory remarks during his celebration.
It’s claimed Arnautovic allegedly said “I’m f*****g your Albanian mother.”
UEFA have since revealed that they have banned Arnautovic for ‘insulting another player’.
The FFM claim that insults were directed at Leeds man Ezgjan Alioski, who has Albanian routes.
“The FFM strongly condemns the nationalistic outburst of Austrian player Marko Arnautovic, after a goal scored in yesterday’s match, addressed to Ezgjan Alioski,” a statement said.
“At the same time, we inform you that we have submitted an official letter to Uefa demanding the harshest punishment for Arnautovic.”
“We are always against nationalism, discrimination and all other forms of insults and outbursts that are not in the spirit of football and values that we all stand together.
“We will always stand up and defend the interests and dignity of Macedonian national players wherever they perform.”
Arnautovic, meanwhile, has Serbian routes and Serbia have historic tension with North Macedonia.

Though UEFA have now decided to suspend him for the Holland game, Arnautovic has apologised for his actions.
“There were some heated words yesterday in the emotions of the game for which I would like to apologise, especially to my friends from North Macedonia and Albania,” he wrote on Instagram.
“I would like to say one thing very clearly: I am not a racist.
“I have friends in almost every country and I stand for diversity. Everyone who knows me is aware of that.”

But that still means eight unfortunate sides will be going home early.
Which teams are out of Euro 2020?
No teams have been eliminated from Euro 2020 yet.
However, North Macedonia could become the first team to go out when Holland face Austria later on tonight.
Any result other than an Austrian win will see the North Macedonians heading back to the Balkans after their final game in the Netherlands.
Though North Macedonia can finish on the same points as both Austria and Ukraine and surpass their goal difference, that will not help under the Euro 2020 system.
Uefa rules state that head-to-head record decides which team goes through and North Macedonia have lost to both the Austrians and the Ukrainians – but not the Dutch.
In contrast Turkey, who sit bottom of Group A with 0 points, still have a mathematical chance of finishing above Switzerland and forcing their way through.

Does third place in the group go through to the last 16?
Third place DOES go through to the last 16, and Portugal even won Euro 2016 after finishing down in third.
However, this only applies to the four best third placed teams from the six groups.
Northern Ireland were the lowest ranked third placed team to qualify at the last Euros.
They finished on three points with two goals scored and conceded and a goal difference of zero. More

UEFA have approved the use of concussion subs at the Euro Under-21 finals, but the protocol will NOT be in place for the senior tournament.
Just one concussion substitute per team is permitted at the Euro Under-21 finals, different to the rules in the Premier League.
The Premier League concussion substitute law allows each team to make two permanent concussion substitutes if players have head injuries, assessed by qualified medics.
The Premier League trial of concussion substitutes began on February 6 2021 during Matchweek 23
Sheffield United’s Enda Stevens receives treatment for a head injury
If a player shows no clear signs of concussion they will be allowed to continue, but will be continually monitored by medics on the sidelines.
The player will then undergo a formal clinical assessment at half time or full time to find out the extent of the injury.
The opposing team is also allowed to make an additional substitution if a concussion substitute comes on to avoid one side gaining an advantage through fresher legs.

The Premier League was the first league in the world to begin trials for concussion substitutes.
The trial lasted until the end of the 2020/21 Premier League season, but can continue into the next campaign.
