Where is the Marcus Rashford mural and who painted the artwork?

MARCUS RASHFORD is one of the most popular footballers in Britain today. So much so, a Manchester-based artist has painted a huge mural on the side of a building in Withington.

Where is the Marcus Rashford mural?
The Manchester United and England star’s portrait appears on the side of a building in Withington in Manchester.
The building is a row of shops including a cafe and fruit and vegetable shop on Moorfield Street off Copson Street in southern Manchester.
Alongside the artwork, some words are scrawled on the brickwork, written by the artist.
They say: “Take pride in knowing that your struggle will play the biggest role in your purpose.”
The piece was defaced by a vandal in the moments after Rashford missed a penalty for England during the Euro 2020 final against Italy.
But hundreds of admirers covered up the ugly writing with letters, flags and PostIt notes containing supportive messages.
Who painted the Marcus Rashford mural?
The portrait was done by Manchester artist Akse.

The French-born graffiti artist is of Vietnamese heritage and has lived in Manchester since 1997.
It is not the first time one of Akse’s artworks has been defaced by racists, after his George Floyd mural at Stephenson Square was attacked by bigots in June 2020.
Akse has painted dozens of similar pieces around Manchester including those of singers Nina Simone, Ray Charles and Marvin Gaye.
He also painted a one of Captain Tom Moore and another of an NHS nurse wearing a mask with a halo above her head.

The likes of France, Mexico, Spain, Argentina, Brazil and Germany will be competing in Japan as football makes it’s long awaited return to the Olympics.
The Team GB women’s football team will be right in the mix as well.
The tournament itself will start on Wednesday, July 22 – two days before the opening ceremony – until Saturday, August 8.
Hege Riise’s women’s side are due to play Chile in the first match of the tournament in Group E, on July 21 before also playing Canada and Chile in their other initial group games, which will all be played at the Sapporo Stadium.
⚽️ EXPLAINED: Why is there a Team GB women’s team but no men’s team?
Team GB women’s Group E fixtures:

Wednesday, July 21 – Great Britain vs Chile – 8.30am UK (4.30pm Japan)
Saturday, July 24 – Japan vs Great Britain – 11am UK approx (7pm Japan)
Tuesday, July 27 – Canada vs Great Britain – 11.30am UK approx (7.30pm Japan)

*Kick off times marked approximate are because games are clustered into sets of two, the Olympic organisers only give kick-off times for the early matches.
What are the Olympic football groups?
The men’s competition will consist of sixteen teams split up four by four per group and the women’s competition will consist of 12 teams split up in three groups.
    Men’s groups

Group A: Japan, South Africa, Mexico, France
Group B: New Zealand, South Korea, Honduras, Romania
Group C: Egypt, Spain, Argentina, Australia
Group D: Brazil, Germany, Ivory Coast, Saudi Arabia

    Women’s groups

Group E: Japan, Great Britain, Chile, Canada
Group F: Brazil, Netherlands, China, Zambia
Group G: USA, Sweden, Australia, New Zealand

The GB Women’s team qualified for the Olympics by virtue of England’s performance at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, when they finished fourth in France.
Defending champions Germany will not field a women’s side at the Olympics after they lost their World Cup quarter-final to Sweden.
And unlike the men’s event – which is an under-23 tournament – the Olympics is one of women’s football’s biggest events, with no age restrictions.

Games in the same group are being played two at a time in various stadia, so second kick-off times are approximate.

Jack Grealish has been playing at the Euros with a very visible bandage on his left hand
The protective padding on the bandage is surrounding Grealish’s thumb
Why is Jack Grealish wearing a bandage on his hand?
Jack Grealish has been playing at the Euros with a broken left thumb which he suffered in a victory at Tottenham towards the end of last season.
The midfield ace has been seen with a bandaged left hand in his three games so far following a rough challenge in Villa’s 2-1 win over Spurs on May 19.
Asked about the injury, England’s No 7 said: “[Japhet] Tanganga from Tottenham threw me on the floor and I broke my thumb.”
On whether it had healed, the attacker showed reporters how bent his thumb was and added: “It’s still like that a little bit isn’t it?”
Though Grealish has revealed the worst part of having a thumb injury – he can no longer play his PlayStation.

What will happen if England win Euro 2020? Could the players be knighted, will there be a bank holiday?

ENGLAND are on the verge of their most historic achievement in football since the 1966 World Cup as they take on Italy in the final of Euro 2020 today. The Three Lions have been brilliant all tournament, as have the Italians, with the game set to take place at Wembley Stadium TONIGHT.

The nation have been cheering Gareth Southgate’s team on for the past month and have seen big wins against the likes of Germany, Ukraine and Denmark.
And now England get to play in their first final since 1966.
So what will actually happen if they do it? Knighthoods? Bank holiday? Victory parade? We’ve got you covered.
Will Gareth Southgate and the players be knighted if England beat Italy?
Reports suggest that manager Southgate, who took over at the end of 2016, WILL be knighted for his achievements, if England win Euro 2020.
It would be the biggest win in England’s history since 1966, when they beat Germany in the World Cup final.
Southgate has also managed to steer England to three tournament semi-finals since taking over, including the 2018 World Cup and the Nations League.
Gareth Southgate has led England to their first tournament final since 1966Credit: Reuters

As for the players, knighthoods are also possible… perhaps not for the whole squad, but definitely for the key players.
Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling would be the two that jump to mind, and could follow in the footsteps of other British sportsmen such as Andy Murray and Mo Farah who have received the honour.
Will there be a victory parade if England beat Italy?
It’s customary in this country for there to be victory parades for our national teams if they achieve the ultimate prize in their sport.
The England cricket players were given a parade when they beat Australia in the Ashes back in 2005.
And the same can be said for the England Rugby team when they beat Australia in 2003.
Harry Kane is England’s top scorer with four goals so far this Euros
Football clubs such as Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd also had victory parades when they won Champions League titles.
There could be one for England if they win Euro 2020, but it’d have to be after July 19, when the country is expected to full relax from any coronavirus restrictions.
And even then, it’s been reported any parade might not take place until September.
Will there be an emergency bank holiday if England win the Euros?
It’s very possible, but a bit of a complicated one for Monday, July 12, and more likely to take place later in the year.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson does have the power to enforce an emergency bank holiday, but doing so late in the day isn’t an ideal situation for employers.
Johnson said earlier this week that it would be ‘tempting fate’ to discuss it, but Labour leader Keir Starmer is all on board with the idea.
Boris Johnson could announce an emergency bank holiday later tonight if England beat ItalyCredit: The Mega Agency

“The whole country is incredibly proud of what Gareth Southgate and our England heroes have achieved already. History has been made,” he told the Mirror.
“If we win on Sunday, the country should get the chance to celebrate it properly with an extra bank holiday, granted in the name of the England team.”
It’s been reported that government officials have discussed the possibility of calling an emergency bank holiday, but only tonight will we all find out what they have planned. More

In fact, his signing was one of those that sparked the Premier League revolution, making it one the international powerhouse league we know today.
He also managed the Blues, as well as Watford in his only two managerial appointments.
But the affable bearded ace has had a tough time in his personal life, where he has been battling cancer.
When was Gianluca Vialli’s ill and what was the diagnosis?
Vialli, 56, revealed in November 2018 he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
He underwent chemotherapy and about 18 months later announced he was all clear of the disease.
Honest Vialli told RAI 1: “I cannot fight with cancer because I would not be able to win this battle, it is a much stronger opponent than me.

“Cancer is an unwanted travel companion, but I can’t help it.
“It got on the train with me and I have to go ahead (and) travel with my head down, never giving up, hoping that one day this unwanted guest will get tired and leave peacefully for many years because there are still so many things I want to do in this life.
“I realise that people can look at me, see that I am doing alright, and hope that they might do the same.
“Maybe because I was a footballer and a strong man, but also fragile and vulnerable at the same time, so I think someone may have recognised themselves in this.
“I’m here with all my faults and my many fears, but also with the desire to do something important.”

What is his role with the Italy team at Euro 2020?
Vialli has been friends with Azzurri manager Roberto Mancini since their time together at Sampdoria.
After his cancer diagnosis, former Manchester City boss Mancini offered Vialli the chance to join up with the national team as their chief delegation officer.
Also part of Mancini’s coaching team is former Juventus and Crystal Palace star Attilio Lombardo.
Chelsea fans were delighted to see Vialli celebrating wildly at Wembley during Italy’s extra-time win over Austria at Euro 2020. More
