What is DRS, what does it stand for and when did F1 introduce it? All you need to know about Drag Reduction System

FORMULA One cars are packed with gadgets to make them go as fast as possible across the tarmac. But with so much technology to know and understand, fans can easily get confused.

The drag reduction system (DRS) is an overtaking aid designed to make racing more exciting.
Here is all you need to know about the rear wing system. What does DRS stand for?
DRS stands for drag reduction system.
This is a method used by F1 drivers to follow their rivals more closely and therefore overtake them.
When in a DRS zone, a driver within one second of a rival car may activate the DRS.

    How does DRS help overtakes?
Within the push of a button, a driver can open up part of the rear wing.
It is used to reduce aerodynamic drag and increase the straight-line speed of the car.
That will allow them to close in on the car in front quicker than they would normally be able to.

    When can they use it?
The drivers can only use the DRS during designated DRS activation zones.
To ensure that overtaking is not too easy, the length and location of the zones are carefully controlled.
They must be within one second of a car in front to be able to use the DRS.
When was DRS first used in F1?
The drag reduction system was introduced to Formula One in 2011.
Regulations in 2013 stated that no item of the body may be adjustable by the driver during the race – with the exception of the DRS. More

Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant: UK start time, date, live stream, TV channel, undercard for big super-middleweight fight

CANELO ALAVREZ returns to the ring against Caleb Plant in a massive super-middleweight undisputed title fight in just over a two weeks’ time.Alvarez was last in action back in May, when he TKO’d Billy Joe Saunders in the 8th round of their title clash in Texas.

Plant has had to wait a little longer for this fight, having not fought since January, when he outpointed Caleb Truax.
The Nashville fighter won his first world title in 2019, beating Venezuelan Jose Uzcategui, and has since defended it three times.
Alvarez is on a hot streak of wins following his draw with Gennady Golovkin back in 2017.
He’s since beaten Golovkin, Rocky Fielding, Daniel Jacobs, Sergey Kovalev, Callum Smith, Avni Yildirim and Saunders, becoming a four-weight world champion in the process.
Plant’s IBF title at 168lbs represents the final piece of Alvarez’s jigsaw, which could see the Mexican crowned as his country’s first ever undisputed champion.
Alvarez and Plant had originally planned to clash back in September, but negotiations fell through before a solution was found weeks later.
The fight will be held on Showtime pay-per-view in the U.S., which will be the first time Alvarez hasn’t fought on DAZN stateside since 2018.
A win for either fighter would crown the second undisputed champion in 2021, after Josh Taylor picked up all the belts at 140lbs in his win over Jose Ramirez back in May.
    When is Canelo vs Plant?

Canelo Alvarez’s big fight with Caleb Plant will take place on Saturday, November 6.
The fight will emanate from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
There should be close to 15,000 fans in attendance at the huge event.
Canelo vs Plant will get underway in the early hours of Sunday, November 7 for fans in the UK, with ring-walks set for around 4am GMT.

What channel is it and can it be live streamed?

Alvarez’s clash with Plant will be shown live on BT Sport Box Office in the UK.
You can live stream the action from the BT Sport Box Office app, which is available for download onto your mobile or tablet device.
The event will set you back £19.95.

    Canelo vs Plant FULL CARD

Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant – super-middleweight
Anthony Dirrell vs Marcos Hernandez – super-middleweight
Rey Vargas vs Leonardo Baez – super bantamweight
Elvis Rodriguez vs Juan Pablo Romero – super-lightweight

    What has been said?
Alvarez said: “You are not on my level and you will see on November 6. You don’t want to fight now, I promise you.
“We come from nothing and we worked hard to be here. For somebody to lie and talk trash about us, that upset Eddy. It is what it is though. We just have to show everyone who we are on November 6.
“Caleb might be on the same level as Saunders and Smith, but he’s not on my level. I respect that he isn’t here to back down. You can see from today that this is definitely going to be a good fight.”
Plant said: “I know only one thing better than proving people right, and that’s proving people wrong. I’ve been doing that my whole life. As soon as I stepped on the stage, people started talking about what I can’t accomplish and what I can’t do.
“Where I come from, there is no boxing community. There was no other pro I could look to and say that if he can do it, then I can do it. All I had was my mind and my heart.
“I don’t do this to be famous or to get attention. When I first started, it was just me and my dad. No one thought I’d be standing here today.”

Who could Canelo Alvarez fight after Caleb Plant?
Assuming Alvarez beats Plant and ends his streak with all four 168lbs belts in his grasp, the opportunities to have mega-fights from thereon would be near endless.
Alvarez is a huge star in the U.S. and Mexico and can continue to fight on pay-per-view, as a free agent, for the rest of his career, if he wanted.
If Alvarez were to stick around with PBC and Showtime for a while, a big-money fight with Jermall Charlo, the current WBC middleweight champion, would make sense.
There’s also former champion at super-middleweight and rising star David Benavidez to possibly contend with.
With DAZN, however, there’s still a potential trilogy fight with Golovkin to explore, with the Kazakh fighter still feeling begrudged about the results in their first two fights.
Otherwise Alvarez could revisit the light-heavyweight division, where’s previously been the WBO champion after beating Kovalev in 2019.
Current WBC and IBF champ Artur Beterbiev would arguably represent the toughest test of Alvarez’s career, as he boasts a menacing 100% KO ratio, the only titleholder in boxing to have that under his belt.
Or there’s WBA champion Dimitry Bivol, a route that seems the more likely, given his relationship with promoter Eddie Hearn, whom Alvarez is closely aligned with. More

Liverpool, however, have been imperious since the start of the season, and are looking to regain the Premier League title they lost to Man City last term.
The Reds’ record at Old Trafford in recent years isn’t the best one, but Jurgen Klopp’s side did beat United 4-2 at the Theatre Of Dreams toward the end of last season.
And they’ll be looking to repeat their antics when the pair clash on Super Sunday.
The clash has been billed as a battle of Cristiano Ronaldo vs Mo Salah and both players have been in wonderful form in the early weeks of the season.
What time does Man Utd vs Liverpool kick-off?

Man Utd’s massive clash with Liverpool will get underway from 4.30pm UK time on Sunday, October 24.
The game will take place at Old Trafford in Manchester.
There will be a full capacity crowd in attendance at the match.

What TV channel is it on and can I live stream?

Man Utd vs Liverpool will be shown live on Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Football.
You can live stream the action from the NOW TV or Sky Go apps, both of which are available for download onto your mobile device or tablet.
Coverage of Super Sunday will begin at 12pm BST.

    Team news
Jurgen Klopp’s sole injury concern is Thiago, who won’t be available to play, with Curtis Jones set to start in midfield.
The squad is alright. We have to see, that’s how it is,” Klopp said.
“We are only two days after the game and we have to make sure that we all get fit again, but they are the typical things. I couldn’t tell you now who is 100 per cent available and who is not.
“Just what’s clear is that Curtis [Jones] will train today with us the full session, that’s the plan. And Thiago not. So, these are the two things I know for the moment.”

Marcus Rahshord limped off against Atalanta for Man Utd in midweek and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided updates on the fitness of Anthony Martial, Fred and Bruno Fernandes.
“We’ve had some knocks, which you expect during games,” he said.
I’m not going to rule anyone out from Sunday but I’m not sure if everyone’s going to be fit. Anthony is still working on his fitness, hopefully he’s come through today and let’s see how he is tomorrow.
“We have two or three with knocks but I hope I can pick from a fit squad. Bruno might be a doubt but he’s doing everything he can to be fit.
“I can’t say if Fred will be fit or not. We might have the whole squad fit but may miss two or three. We’ll see.”
    Odds

    Man Utd – 2/1
    Draw – 5/2
    Liverpool – 6/5

Who is Guido, and why is Pep Guardiola wearing a t-shirt with supportive message on?

PEP GUARDIOLA showed support for Manchester City fan Guido de Pauw at a news conference on Friday. The Spanish coach wore a T-Shirt which had the message ‘We’re with you Guido’ emblazoned on it.

Guardiola spoke about De Pauw and what happened to the 63-year-old following City’s win over Club Brugge on Tuesday.
    Who is Guido de Pauw?
De Pauw, a City fan from Belgium, was attacked after the English side’s win over Brugge in the Champions League.
The attack took place at a service station new Drongen, which is where City star Kevin de Bruyne is from.
De Pauw is currently in stable condition in hospital but is in a coma and doctors have described his situation as life-threatening.
So Guardiola wore the T-Shirt as a show of support on Friday, and he could do the same this weekend when City take on Brighton.

“Of course all the club and the organisation, from our chairman Khaldoon and every person here, we are with him,” Guardiola said.
“We are quite optimistic because the last hours he is getting better.
“Of course he has all the support from the club for what they need with the investigation from our club.
“We are sending a big hug for him and all his family and we wish he comes back to Etihad Stadium soon to follow us.
“Hopefully this isn’t going to happen again. It’s difficult to understand why people go to enjoy a football game and this kind of terrible things.
“I’m pretty sure Bruges will do the right investigation on that and they can take the person or the people involved in this.”
Man City take on Brighton at the AMEX Stadium on Saturday afternoon. More
