What happens if a manager gets a red or yellow card?

THE Premier League is back and we can look forward to another season of fast paced action. And sometimes the drama can spill over to the touchlines, as happened when Chelsea played Tottenham and both managers, Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte, were sent off.
Todd Boehly and Antonio Conte were both sent off at Chelsea vs TottenhamCredit: Getty
Can managers receive yellow and red cards?
Yellow and red cards can be issued to managers for misconduct in the technical area.
This system was introduced in 2018, where previously coaching staff could only be warned or sent off.
Yellow cards can be issued for:

inappropriate language or gestures towards officials
    kicking of throwing water bottles
    sarcastic clapping
    waving imaginary cards
    dissent

If a manager receives four yellow cards over the course of a season, they will face a touchline ban.
Eight yellow cards = two-match ban
16 yellows = FA misconduct hearing.
If a second yellow card is given to a manager during a game, they will be asked to leave the technical area.
Managers can be given a straight red card for a serious incident classed as a “stage two offence” which will result in the same punishment.
Managers are also responsible for their backroom staff, so if they are acting inappropriately it will be the manager who receives the card.

Why do Nottingham Forest have no sponsor?
Nottingham Forest have no shirt sponsor as no deal has been agreed with any potential partner.
Steve Cooper’s men saw their deal with BOXT expire at the end of last season.
The club turned down an offer from the boiler company to extend their partnership into their first Premier League campaign of the millennium.
Following that decision from the Forest owners, BOXT signed a deal to become Everton sleeve sponsors.

Are Nottingham Forest going to get a sponsor?
Nottingham Forest are certainly keen to secure a sponsorship agreement and the situation regarding the plain front of their shirts is not one they had planned for.
According to reports from the East Midlands, numerous deals have been close to being agreed but none have got over the line yet.
According to Sport Business, Forest chairman Evangelos Marinakis is holding for a £10m-a-season deal and was willing to start the campaign without a sponsor if his demands were not met.
There has also been a restructuring which has seen the club only make two key commercial appointments in the first week of August.
Former Newcastle managing director Lee Charnley has been brought in by Marinakis to help push a deal through.

At the end of July, Sheffield Hallam University finance expert Dr Dan Plumley told Football Insider: “It’s ambitious. We have to look at benchmarks.
“West Ham and Everton’s are around £10m or £11m. Newcastle and Leeds meanwhile are closer toward £7.5m. That is the region we’re looking at.
“We know betting companies will often pay more than non-betting companies.
“For a newly-promoted club, you are probably setting your sights towards £6m or £7m. So, Forest are going for above the benchmark there.
“The risk is that the longer you go without naming a sponsor, the more likely it could backfire.
    Most read in Football
“Sponsors want to be involved in every game and we are nearly at the start of the season now.
“If it does come off, fantastic. It would put them among the biggest deals in the Premier League. But there is a risk we can’t ignore with this strategy.”
But according to Simon Chadwick, Global Professor of Sport at Emlyon Business School, more clubs could follow Forest’s approach in the near future.
He told The Athletic: “Many American investors believe Premier League football clubs are underselling themselves and their sponsorship assets are worth far more money than they’re currently asking for.” More

BRITISH boxing icon Anthony Joshua’s huge heavyweight re-match against Oleksandr Usyk is fast approaching. And a start time has been revealed for the huge fight.

Joshua, 32, and his Ukrainian counterpart were due to do battle in May, and then July, but there were various hold-ups in negotiations which pushed the fight further back.
Russia’s war on Ukraine, where Usyk is from, also had an impact on the arrangement of the rematch.
Usyk, 35, returned to his home country earlier this tear to join the fight in the war against Russia, which began in February.
But he’s now in training camp for the biggest fight of his life.
Usyk outpointed and largely outclassed a game Joshua in front of 70,000 fans at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last September to win the WBA, WBO, IBF & IBO world titles.

However, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn told The Sun earlier this month that his client is ‘baffled’ by the tactics used last year, and hinted at a change of gameplan for the rematch.
He said: “I was talking to him the other night and I think finally it’s baffled him why he fought like that.
“For a long time, he still felt even when he lost that he could still beat Usyk like that. But why when you don’t need to fight like that?
“He could fight in your old style and have a much better chance of beating him. Klitschko-style but Usyk is a tremendous fighter, a great counterpuncher.”
Hearn added that AJ “needs to be a lot more aggressive” this time.
The two sides spent months negotiating a money-spinning deal for AJ’s second fight in Saudi Arabia, having beaten Ruiz Jr on points in the oil-rich country in December 2019.
Joshua will also have a new training team, with the experienced Robert Garcia leading his corner while Angel Fernandez plays second-in-command.

The stadium can seat up to 62,000 for a football match, but more are expected to pile in for Joshua vs Usyk 2.
Saudi Arabia has been a controversial host country, with the oil-rich nation accused of sportswashing after spending huge sums luring some of the world’s best golfers to their new LIV series.
Hearn, however, has dismissed any such comparison. He said: “He is not worried about any backlash because he has done it before.
“He will ultimately go, ‘Eddie over to you’. I am not going to pass the buck but it is very different when the deal is a 50/50 split. How can we go back to Usyk and say, ‘Let’s do it at Spurs’ because they will just say it is a non-starter.”
    What has been said?
Both Joshua and Usyk met face-to-face for the first time since their clash last year at the press conference in Saudi Arabia.
“The fight with Usyk, he bust my a** for some rounds,” Joshua quipped.
“And I have to take that defeat like a man as well, I have to be accountable.
“In the fight in September, I was wrong and he was right. Simply I have to reverse that role in August.
“I don’t like to overcomplicate the situation, because there’s simplicity in genius. I’m just gonna keep things simple.”
Usyk added: “As you all know, we are not in the best conditions at the moment back home.
“I never made some very loud and bright speeches, all I did was just work hard in my training camp, my gym, that’s what I’m gonna do until the date of the fight.
“Then I will enter the ring and I will make you happy with my boxing.”

Robert Garcia is Joshua’s new trainer, with AJ splitting from long-time coach Rob McCracken following his loss to Usyk last September.

Robert Garcia will be Anthony Joshua’s lead trainer in Saudi Arabia on August 20
But in 2001, after a knockout loss to Joel Casamyaor, Garcia retired at the age of 26 and decided to focus on training.
Garcia is known to be an offensive, Mexican-style, front-foot trainer, and will train the tactics plenty believe Joshua needs to beat an elusive southpaw like Usyk.
The 47-year-old has said: “We’ll see who’s the better man. We’re going to do whatever it takes to win those titles back.
“I know he can do it. He’s the bigger man, he’s the stronger man, he’s got the reach advantage, so we’re going to take advantage of all that.
“Come that day, I think without a doubt, we’re going to have a three-time heavyweight champion of the world.” More

Why aren’t Premier League players taking the knee this weekend and will the gesture return?

PREMIER LEAGUE football is back in full flow but fans may notice that one particular pre-match ritual hasn’t returned.Since midway through 2020, Premier League players have been taking the knee before games to show solidarity against racism and other forms of discrimination.
Premier League players have been taking the knee since 2020Credit: Reuters
On the first weekend of the 2022/23 season, the players continued to take the knee before kick-off.
But in a move announced by the Premier League, the pre-match gesture will be scrapped for the majority of the rest of the season, and used only for specific moments.
This weekend will be the first in over two years that the gesture won’t be carried out by players.

Why aren’t players taking the knee this season?
A Premier League statement read: “Ahead of the new season, Premier League club captains have reaffirmed their commitment to fighting racism and all forms of discrimination.
“The players have decided to use specific moments during the upcoming campaign to take the knee, to amplify the message that racism has no place in football or society.
“The Premier League supports the players’ decision and, alongside the clubs, will use these opportunities to elevate anti-racism messaging as part of the League’s No Room for Racism Action Plan.”
Has taking the knee been scrapped?
    Not entirely.
Taking of the knee will still be used for specific significant moments throughout the season, but not every week.
These include the first game of the season, the last game of the season, the Boxing Day round of fixtures and No Room For Racism weekends.
And in a collective statement, the 20 Premier League captains suggested that taking of the knee would be used for significant moments throughout the upcoming season.

“We remain resolutely committed to eradicate racial prejudice, and to bring about an inclusive society with respect and equal opportunities for all,” they said.
The taking of the knee will still occur before the FA Cup and Carabao Cup finals.
Boxing Day will also see the gesture carried out.
It was also announced that the Premier League would be donating £238,000 to youth clubs on behalf of the 20 captains, with half of that amount coming from the revenue earned from the ‘No Room for Racism’ sleeve badges. More
