What is a split decision in boxing?

THERE’S nothing more thrilling than seeing a boxing match settled from a KO – but fights are often settled by a split decision.YouTuber Jake Paul survived eight rounds with Tyson Fury’s half brother Tommy before losing the Saudi showdown.

However, the grudge match was closer than most expected as Fury’s win came down to a split decision.
But what exactly is a split decision and what are some of the other decisions in boxing?
    What is a split decision?
A split decision in boxing is when two of the three judges score one particular fighter as the winner while the third judge scores in favour of the other competitor.
This commonly leads to the loser requesting a rematch having felt as if there is not enough unanimity in the final decision.

How else can a boxing match be settled?
Split decisions are often confused with a majority decision which occurs when two judges choose the same fighter as the winner but the third judge believes the contest was a tie.
Boxing matches are occasionally settled as a tie if two judges score in favour of different competitors, while the remaining judge feels as if the match was a draw.
Unanimous decisions happen when ALL three judges decided on one competitor as the winner

But prior to the decisions above, boxers can win via a knockout (KO) which is when the fighter fails to resume the bout before a ten count after being hit down to the canvas.
Or, competitors can be victorious following a technical knockout (TKO) – when the referee believes that the boxer isn’t in stable enough condition to defend themselves. More

Why is Phil Jones on punditry and NOT in Man Utd squad for Carabao Cup final?

PHIL JONES may still be on the books as a Manchester United player – but he’s not in footy attire today. United are playing in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley against Newcastle.
Phil Jones has suffered with knee injuries throughout his careerCredit: AFP
Erik Ten Hag’s side are bidding to win United’s first trophy for six years, while Newcastle are hoping for a first in 68 years.
Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez start in defence for United, with Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire on the bench.
There’s no room for Phil Jones in the squad, as he’s on punditry duty for Sky Sports instead.
But there is one other reason why he’s not in the squad.

Why is Phil Jones not in the Man Utd squad?
Phil Jones is out with a devastating knee injury.
Ten Hag said earlier this season: “For the whole season he’s injured. I can’t say [if Jones will play again this season].
“What I can say is that he’s not available for training since the first day of training this season so I think there’s not an opportunity for you to recover quickly and be available quickly.”
Phil Jones is on punditry duty for Sky Sports
Jones’ long term knee injury appears to still be a major issue with the centre-back not being named in a game day squad list since September.
    Most read in Football
Jones’ contract expires at the end of June when he could leave Old Trafford after 13 years.
The centre-back was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2011 with the legendary Scottish manager claiming he could become the club’s “best ever player”.
But now he looks to have taken a jump into a new career as he appears alongside Roy Keane and Gary Neville at the Carabao Cup final. More

Is there a rematch clause for Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury?
Jake Paul and Tommy Fury could be in line for a blockbuster rematch, but there is a catch…
Paul has confirmed that his deal includes a right to rematch if he is beaten, something not afforded to Fury.
Meaning if the American loses for the first time in the boxing ring, it puts the duo in line for a mega-money sequel.
And this could happen later this year.

🥊 How to watch Jake Paul vs Tommy Fury: Date, UK start time, live stream, TV channel
How many rounds will the fight be?
The big fight is scheduled for eight, three-minute rounds.
Paul has twice gone that distance, in points wins over ex-UFC champions Tyron Woodley, 40, and Anderson Silva, 47.
But Fury, 23, has only ever seen the six-round mark, in his last pro win in April against Daniel Bocianski, 28.
    Most read in Boxing
The two will meet in a 185lb catchweight bout, which is 2lb lighter than Paul’s last fight, against Silva.
Fury was 181.4lb in November when he was set to face Paul Bamba, 33, who then withdrew amid a weight disagreement. More
