A loan spell with Bolton Wanderers saw the youngster impress and became a regular fixture in the first team the following season.
His performances saw him win a call up to England senior team where he became only the 10th 16-year-old to win a full cap under the guidance of Fabio Capello.
It was in the 2011/12 season that Wilshere suffered a stress fracture of his ankle which was to be the start of his dreaded injury-curse.

Wilshere spent 17 months on the sidelines before he was to make his return to the first-team setup.
He was sent out on loan to Bournemouth where he was to rediscover the form which saw Wenger put such faith in him.

Who is Tottenham Hotspur owner Joe Lewis?
Joe Lewis was born in the East End of London.
He left school at the age of 15 years old and started working in the family-run café which he grew up living above.
This spurred his career in the catering industry as he opened a series of restaurants throughout the area.

He went on to create the English National Investment Company (ENIC) with his son Charlie and Daniel Levy.
It was Levy’s role to undertake the football side of the business while son Charlie was to focus on the restaurant aspect.

    What is Daniel Levy role?
Eventually, Lewis bought Alan Sugar’s share in the football club making Daniel Levy the chairman.
He is now the longest-serving chairman in the Premier League having been elevated to the role in 2000.
Levy was integral in Tottenham’s new state-of-the-art £800m stadium was built, with it being opened in 2019.
    Could Tottenham Hotspur be sold?
Rumours have circulated about a consortium preparing a bid to buy the North London club.
Iranian-American billionaire Jahm Najafi was alleged to be a part of consortium, led by MSP Sports Capital, who were interested in purchasing the club for a figure in the region of £3.1bn.
Although no official approach was made, the club seems an attractive proposition for investors due to the new stadium, training facility and the fact they own a lot of land around the stadium.
Tottenham reiterated how the club is not for sale and it would take an astronomical offer persuade Joe Lewis to sell.
With the club looking to source a new manager with more of a long-term vision for Tottenham, it seems very unlikely that Joe Lewis would consider an offer unless it was an astronomical one. More
