How much has Chelsea spent in the 2023 transfer window?

TODD Boehly has wasted no time in splashing the cash on new transfers since buying Chelsea in May 2022.Here we take a look at how much Chelsea has spent in the 2023 transfer window and if the club has breached financial fair play rules.

How much has Chelsea spent in the 2023 transfer window?
New owner Todd Boehly shelled out £600million across the last two transfer windows in a remarkable six months of manic dealings.
Chelsea are just shy of spending £1billion on incoming signings in just three windows.
Nine players signed permanent deals at Stamford Bridge with a further eight stars arriving in West London in January – and the spending spree shows no signs of slowing down with another nine new faces confirmed this summer.
The Blues are set to take their summer spending to more than £360m after wrapping up a deal for Moises Caicedo, with Romeo Lavia also set to follow.

Has Chelsea breached financial fair play rules?
In August 2023, former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan explained how Chelsea have spent nearly £1billion and still complied with financial fair play rules.
Jordan said on talkSPORT: ”They’ve spent £800million on players, they’ve spent £600million last year and capitalised that over eight years because all of those players were on eight-year contracts, so all of a sudden that £600million spend is averaging at £75million per year because you’re dividing £600million by eight.
”He’s [Boehly] now had that change because the football fraternity has said ‘you can’t do that over eight years’, so they’ve rolled it back to five years.
”This year’s spend will be £300million, or round about that, and that’ll be reducing to £60million per year – so he’s now losing £75million each year for last year’s spend, plus £60million this year, but he’s gone and sold £250million worth of players in three transfer windows and all of those players have deduced an outcome that is profitable to Chelsea.”
    Most read in Football
Jordan continued: ”If you’re depreciating that at £135million a year and you’ve just sold £250-£260million worth of players over three transfer windows with most of those players – with the exception of Timo Werner who was sold at breakeven – are booking you a profit, you’ve just covered the last 18 months worth of potential losses and going into next year as well.
”In 18 months’ time if Chelsea are still spending at this level and are still carrying that level of depreciation and haven’t balanced the books by selling more players and haven’t got into the Champions League then they’re going to get caught.”
However, in July 2023, it was reported that Chelsea had been hit with an £8.6million fine for Financial Fair Play breaches stretching back to the Roman Abramovich era.
A Uefa probe into the club’s finances was opened after the Stamford Bridge outfit’s new owners reported the issues last summer.
In a statement, Uefa said: “Following the club’s sale in May 2022, the new ownership identified, and proactively reported to Uefa, instances of potentially incomplete financial reporting under the club’s previous ownership.
“The reported matters related to historical transactions which took place between 2012 and 2019.”
With Uefa having a three-year statute of limitations over FFP breaches, Chelsea only faced punishment for the rule-breaking in the 2018-2019 season. More

Man City vs Sevilla – Super Cup: Pep’s Treble winners take on Europa League champions in tasty clash – stream, TV

The City boss is aiming to win the Super Cup for the first time since 2013, when he was manager of Bayern Munich.
He also claimed Super Cup glory with Barcelona in 2009 and 2011.
In his way this time will be Europa League holders Sevilla, who knocked out Manchester United on their way to winning their specialist tournament last year.
Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side have won the Europa League a staggering seven times since the 2005-06 season, but have only managed to get their hands on the Super Cup once – courtesy of a 3-0 win over Barcelona in 2006.

Among Sevilla’s ranks are former Premier League stars Erik Lamela, Suso and ex-City ace Jesus Navas.
Guardiola and Co will have to do without star man Kevin De Bruyne, after the Belgian suffered a hamstring injury against Burnley on Friday night.
Speaking in his press conference, the City boss said: “Kevin De Bruyne’s injury is serious one. He will be out for a few months.
“We have to decide in the next days on surgery but for sure we lose Kevin for some time.”

    What is their form like?
City began their Premier League title defence with a comfortable 3-0 win at Turf Moor on Friday night.
Erling Haaland scored twice during the opening 45 minutes, with Rodri adding another 15 minutes from time.
Sevilla, meanwhile, were stunned 2-1 by Valencia at Ramon-Sanchez Pizjuan.
Javi Guerra struck an 88th minute winner for the visitors, after Sevilla defender Loic Bade was red carded.
What is the team news and any injuries to worry about?
As mentioned, City will have to do without star man De Bruyne.
Guardiola admitted that his star man may have to go under the knife, saying: “We have to decide on surgery but he will be a few months out.”
Ruben Dias will miss out with concussion, while Bernardo Silva is ill.
Joao Cancelo is fit but has not been named in the travelling squad.
John Stones is back in contention, having made the trip to Greece.
Sevilla were without Marcao, Tanguy Nianzou and Alfonso Pastor Vacas against Valencia.
Who will be the star men?
Despite the loss of De Bruyne, City are still stacked with top quality talent.
In the Belgian’s absence, the Treble winners could look to Phil Foden to provide their creative spark.
Sevilla will hope that forward Youssef En-Nesyri can grab them a goal.
The Moroccan got off the mark for the season by scoring against Valencia on Friday night.
Phil Foden will be eager to return to prominence this season
    Youssef En-Nesyri is Sevilla’s best goal-getter
    What have the managers said?
Guardiola was asked if City finally winning the Champions League would take the pressure off his side.
He said: “It’s a relief. To tell you that you can be seven years without winning the Champions League, it’s difficult to win. It’s not enough, otherwise we leave everyone at home because we have done it.
“We are hungry enough to compete, to challenge ourselves. If someone wants to take our three crowns they can fight us to take it.”
Ahead of the match, Mendilibar said: “I’m happy to be here, to have won for the club, which was having a hard time when we got here.
“We have done something good that can have repercussions for the good of the club.”
    SunSport prediction
Sevilla might be Europa League specialists, but they struggle to translate that form against the continent’s true elite.
For that reason, it’s difficult to look beyond a comfortable City win, despite the loss of De Bruyne.
SunSport predicts: Man City 3 Sevilla 0

Who is Sam Kerr and what is her salary?

SAM Kerr is captain of the Australian Women’s Football team and is playing her fourth world cup in 2023. She’s had some ups and downs in her career. Here’s what we know about her career.
Sam Kerr plays for Chelsea and her national side Australia
    Who is Sam Kerr?
Sam was born in East Fremantale, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia.
Her parents are Roxanne and Roger Kerr.
Sam comes from a sporty family with her father being a professional Australian rules football player.
As of August 2023, she is in a relationship with her girlfriend, American soccer player Kristie Mews.

Sam played Australian rules football when she was a child, but switched to association football when she was 12, mostly due to gender restrictions.
Sam faced some struggles during the transition but was spotted by Perth Glory striker Bobby Despotovski.
He described her athleticism and raw talent as “exceptional”.
In 2009, at the age of 15, Sam debuted with the Matildas as a substitute in a match against Italy.

A year later she played in her first major tournament, the Asian Cup, in China.
She helped the team secure their first-ever title by scoring the opening goal in the team’s victory against North Korea during the final.
She played in her first Women’s World Cup in 2011 at the age of 17.
Despite a series of injuries, Sam was picked for all five matches the Matildas played at the 2015 World Cup.
She also represented her nation at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Sam helped the team advance to the quarterfinals before they were eliminated by Brazil.
In 2018, Sam was also a driving force for the team during their run to the Asian Cup final but they lost the title match to Japan.
Sam was chosen as Australia’s captain ahead of the Women’s World Cup in 2019.
During the tournament she scored her first World Cup goal claiming four in total in a victory against Jamaica.
She was one goal short of the Women’s World Cup individual single-game scoring record which is shared by Michelle Akers and Alex Morgan.
The team then progressed into the round of 16 but were eliminated by Norway during penalty kicks.
Sam, however, maintained her scoring streak by securing six of the 11 goals scored by the Australian team at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
Australia were later eliminated by the United States in the bronze medal match.
Sam was selected for the 2023 World Cup in her home nation, despite recovering from a calf injury she sustained earlier in 2023.
In the quarter finals she played for 65 minutes against France, and scored in the penalty shoot-out, sending the Aussie team into the semi-finals against England.
The forward holds the all-time record for the most goals scored for the Matildas – 63.

Sam is reportedly the highest paid player in women’s football.

However, Cristiano Ronaldo, the highest paid male footballer earns £173 million per year, over £172 million more than Sam.
Who has Sam Kerr played for?
Sam made her debut for Chelsea FC on January 5 2020 against Reading.
She started her career at Perth Glory in 2008, leaving in 2011.
She returned for the 2014/2015 season after playing for Sydney FC and Western New York Flash.
Sam then joined Sky Blue FC and Chicago Red Stars before her move to the west London club.
She won the League Cup and Women’s Super League title in her first and second season at Stamford Bridge, and helped Chelsea make it to the UEFA Women’s Champions League final, although they lost to Barcelona.
In the 2020/2021 season, she scored 21 goals in 22 games, claiming the Golden Boot.
She is first player to win this accolade in three different leagues.
With her help, the Blues secured three consecutive FA Cup wins from 2021-2023, and two more Super League titles in 2022 and 2023.
