Why isn’t Kylian Mbappe playing against Netherlands at Euro 2024?

KYLIAN MBAPPE is NOT in France’s starting XI to play Holland tonight at Euro 2024. The France captain is still looking to win his first Euros after disappointment in 2020. Kylian Mbappe was forced off in the game against AustriaCredit: APLes Bleus got things off to the perfect start against Austria, beating them 1-0 thanks to an own goal. It was Mbappe’s cross, however, which was deflected in and the Real Madrid man nearly made it 2-0 in the second half. Mbappe had to come off towards the end of the game, however, and his availability coming into tonight’s game was questioned. Why isn’t Kylian Mbappe playing vs Holland?Mbappe is on the bench tonight and may not come on because he broke his nose against Austria. The 25-year-old collided with Austrian player Kevin Danso late in the game and went down to receive treatment for several minutes. Mbappe’s nose immediately swelled up and blood began to pour down his face and onto his shirt while on the floor. There were fears that Mbappe would need to have an operation but a decision was made not to do so. But he does, however, have to wear a protective face mask, if and when he gets on the pitch. Most read in Euro 2024Mbappe was seen in training with a France flag-coloured mask, but if he does play, he’ll have to wear something plain-coloured instead, according to UEFA’s rules. Mbappe is expected to come back into the French side at some point, but it remains to be seen whether that will be before the knockout rounds. Even though Mbappe is on the bench tonight, there’s every chance he won’t come on as every player who isn’t in the XI but part of the 26-man squad is named on the bench. Last week, Robert Lewandowski was named on the bench for Poland against Holland but didn’t play because of an injury. More
