His Old Trafford deal expires next summer but United are keen to trigger a one-year extension.
Lindelof started the last 12 games of the season following Lisandro Martinez’s injury, having overtaken Harry Maguire in the pecking order.
The 28-year-old who was signed from Benfica for £31million in 2017, looked to be heading for the exit until impressing Ten Hag in recent months.
With United ready to offload Maguire, they want another centre-half, with Napoli’s Kim Min-jae top of boss Ten Hag’s wishlist.

The FA and police are looking for the fan who hit Lindelof in the face with a lighter during Saturday’s FA Cup final.
Many United fans issued apologies to Lindelof following his string of impressive displays, having confessed to “blaming him for Maguire’s mistakes”.
Indeed, the games United lost in that run came from errors from other players.
Errors from Maguire and David de Gea saw the Red Devils crash out of the Europa League.

In the Premier League, a late Luke Shaw handball against Brighton was followed up by another De Gea error against West Ham as United lost back-to-back games 1-0.

Palace already have two top keepers in Sam Johnstone and Vicente Guaita, making that department well covered and also expensive to run.
Rangers have been keen on Butland, 30, for a year but only pressed on with a deal in recent weeks.
Their initial interest faded when Allan McGregor returned to their plans.
But his belated exit left them in need of an experienced replacement.

The former Stoke shot-stopper failed to make any appearances at Palace or United this season.

Asim, 33, was using the radio to follow Everton v Bournemouth — crucial to whether his team stayed in the Premier League.
He was seen on Sky Sports and Match of the Day reacting with horror at Everton’s goal, which meant Leicester would be going down, despite their 2-1 home victory over West Ham.
Dad Paul, 70, a retired GP, had written his mobile number prominently on the digital radio in case he misplaced it.
Asim had borrowed it and said: “When Everton scored, you can imagine my reaction, a bit four-lettered. I’d no idea the cameras had caught it until after.

“My dad called and said he was being bombarded with calls from fans of other clubs.
“They had seen his number on the radio. One was asking for help to repair his because it was going down, down, down.”
Asim, also a GP, added: “Ironically, Dad isn’t even a Leicester fan — he supports Chelsea.” More

Viewers also hear Shearer’s daughter Chloe, who is now in her 30s but was just five in the original ad, reprise her role of begging her dad to get a McDonald’s.
Shearer said: “Times have changed since I shot the first advert.
