‘Devastated’ Mason Greenwood ‘doesn’t know which way to turn’ after being dumped by Man Utd

MASON Greenwood has been left “devastated” by Manchester United’s decision to dump him – which has left him mulling over an offer from a club in Albania. The forward, 21, and his family had expected to return to the Red Devils after club officials indicated they were willing to give him a second chance.

But following a public backlash the club announced on Monday he would not play for United again.
His hopes of re-starting his career at a high level club have also been dealt a blow after officials from Italian Serie A side Roma and the Saudi Premier League indicated they were no longer interested in signing the Prem star.
Following his suspension by United after charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive controlling behaviour were dropped in February, at least two Premier League clubs made enquiries about signing him on loan.
But those clubs are now re-thinking their plans as they consider whether any public backlash they are likely to receive if they sign him is worth it.
    READ MORE MASON GREENWOOD
Championship clubs are also believed to be monitoring the situation, but are worried they too would be unable to handle the PR situation.
So at the moment, the only side who are reportedly interested is an unnamed team in Albania.
The Sun understands the backlash has been so severe that Greenwood – who became a dad in July – has been left “devastated” and fearing for the future of his career.
A source said: “Mason always wanted to re-start his career at the highest level possible.

“He hoped and believed it would be with United.
“The strength of feeling has now left him worried if he will ever play in the top leagues again.
“Playing in somewhere like Albania was never part of his plans, ever.”
Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 after disturbing images were placed on social media.
But his court case was halted after key witnesses withdrew their evidence.
United CEO Richard Arnold said this week that a five month club investigation had concluded that Greenwood did not commit any criminal offences, but that he needed to leave Old Trafford for the good of his career.

Mason Greenwood’s career dealt another blow by Ronaldo who could stop his move to Saudi Arabia over long running feud

MASON Greenwood fears he has blown any chance of making a fresh start in Saudi Arabia after describing the career of former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo as “dead”.Greenwood, 21, used the term while discussing the superstar’s form while he was playing at Real Madrid.

He later moved to Juventus and returned to Old Trafford in September 2021.
The comment emerged in March, three months after Ronaldo, 38, signed for Saudi team Al-Nassr in a two-year £350million deal.
When Ronaldo learned about it he was furious — and urged league bosses not to consider making a move for his former teammate.
A source said: “Ronaldo isn’t known for his thick skin.

“He was really annoyed at what Greenwood said — but he has good reason to be when you consider what Ronaldo has achieved in his career and where Greenwood finds himself.
“Greenwood had his nose put out of joint when Ronaldo signed for United because he ended up playing a lot less than he had hoped for, so their relationship was difficult.”
Ronaldo was the first superstar to move to the Saudi league and he has a lot of influence.
The source added: “Ronaldo is treated as royalty in Saudi and what he says goes.
    Most read in Football
“He would have enough influence there to kibosh clubs from signing Greenwood if he wanted to.”
The Sun understands Saudi league bosses are also wary of making a move for Greenwood given the country already suffers from bad PR.
A senior figure within the Saudi Premier League said it would be “very surprising” if attempts were made to sign Greenwood given the huge push for women’s football in the past year, which saw an 86 per cent rise in registered female players in the country.
A source said: “If Greenwood is too toxic for football in Saudi Arabia, you do wonder where on earth he could rebuild his career.”
The second season of the Saudi women’s league kicks off on October 11 with women playing without head coverings and male fans watching in the stands.
Clubs from Turkey and Italy have previously registered their interest in Greenwood but yesterday Serie A club Roma, managed by ex-United boss Jose Mourinho, distanced itself from the player.
Former Liverpool and England midfielder Steven Gerrard, now manager at Saudi club Al-Ettifaq, also dismissed claims he was interested as “fake news”.

Yesterday both of the black £26.50 tops had sold out on her Mae27 site.
The phrases come from a speech Earps, 30, made in February when accepting a Fifa best women’s goalkeeper award.
Nike was slammed for refusing to sell replica shirts with the Man Utd star’s name on.
Earps, dubbed Mary, Queen of Stops, called it disappointing and very hurtful.

She said: “For my own family, friends and loved ones not to be able to buy my shirt, they’re just going to come out and wear normal clothes.
“I know there’s a lot of people who have spent a tremendous amount of money on outfield shirts and then put ‘1 Earps’ on the back, which doesn’t sit well with me either. It’s a very scary message that’s being sent to goalkeepers worldwide that ‘you’re not important’.
“It’s something that I’ve been fighting behind closed doors. I’ve been desperately trying to find a solution with the FA and with Nike.”
After England’s loss, Nike said it was “working towards solutions for future tournaments”.

Give Lionesses gongs for their heroics in Women’s World Cup, MPs demand as King Charles urges them to ‘roar to victory’

SUPER Sarina Wiegman and her roar-some Lionesses should get damehoods for their Women’s World Cup heroics, MPs demanded yesterday. The call came as Bobby Moore’s widow urged the England team to summon the spirit of 1966 and win the trophy just like the men did.

As King Charles and Prince William — together with Princess Charlotte — sent the squad best wishes, Stephanie Moore hailed the “once in a lifetime” opportunity in this morning’s final against Spain in Sydney.
And England captain Millie Bright, 29, preparing for the biggest game of her life, said yesterday playing in the final was a dream come true for the players.
Chelsea star Millie added: “Everyone knows how big this is.
“As a group we’d like to say thank you, not only to the fans back home but the fans that are here as well. Stick with us one more game.”

Spain vs England LIVE – Latest updates from Women’s World Cup final
An audience of up to 15million back home is expected to watch on the BBC or ITV — with bookies slashing odds that it will be the year’s most viewed sporting event.
Supporters will also cram into public fan zones across England.
Ministers had urged councils to relax licensing laws so pubs can open for the 11am kick-off.
England men’s boss Gareth Southgate, captain Harry Kane and ex-skipper David Beckham sent good luck messages.

And PM Rishi Sunak — set to watch in a pub in his constituency in Richmond, North Yorks — wrote to Dutch coach Sarina and the team praising their “lasting legacy”.
It came amid a growing clamour for the team and manager to be honoured. Tory MP for Mid-Derbyshire Pauline Latham said: “They should all be honoured — win or lose. They absolutely deserve it.”
Fellow Tory MP Kevin Foster added: “The Lionesses have inspired the whole nation and done us all proud. Well-earned gongs should be swiftly awarded.”
And Labour MP Chris Evans said: “Bobby Moore died without a gong because it took them so long to honour the 1966 side. Let’s not make the same mistake.
“Win or lose, let’s recognise the incredible achievement of the Lionesses getting this far.”
After manager Wiegman, 53, led England to their Euros triumph at Wembley last year, only selected players got gongs.
Captain Leah Williamson, 26, who has missed the World Cup through injury, was made an OBE.
Team-mates Beth Mead, Lucy Bronze and Ellen White were made MBEs.
Yesterday, Cabinet Office sources said the whole team and manager were likely to be honoured — if they win.
But another Tory MP Caroline Nokes, chair of the Women and Equalities Committee in Parliament, said: “Win or Lose we should designate the late August bank holiday ‘Lioness Day’.”
Stephanie, 72, who set up the Bobby Moore fund after his death from bowel cancer, said: “What a wonderful journey the Lionesses have been on, with success at the Euros on home turf and now this once in a lifetime chance to lift the World Cup.”
She added: “I think they have been a credit to themselves, to football and to the country.”
The King last night gave the team his support in a social media message. It was timed at 10pm so the Lionesses saw it as they woke up in Sydney.
In it, Charles said: “Good luck today and may you roar to victory.”
He signed off the message — alongside an image of a lioness — with his royal cypher, Charles R.
Charles, 74, and Queen Camilla, 76, were set to watch the game at home on the Balmoral estate.
FA president William, 41, has faced flak for not attending the final — but is said to have opted not to travel to keep down his carbon footprint.
Foreign Secretary James Cleverly has been scrambled to represent the Government there amid criticism over the absence of the PM and senior ministers.
William sent a good luck message to the squad last night, with Princess Charlotte melting hearts as she joined her dad.
Sitting on a bench together, he placed his arm around his daughter, eight, as he spoke.
    ‘Keep believing’
The Prince of Wales said: “Lionesses, we want to send you a huge good luck for tomorrow. We are sorry we can’t be there in person but we are so proud of everything you have achieved and the millions you have inspired here and around the world. So go out there tomorrow and really enjoy yourselves.”
Charlotte, with a football on her lap, added on the social media video: “Good luck Lionesses.”
One follower on X/Twitter said: “Lovely message of support, and wonderful to see Princess Charlotte.”
Another added: “What an adorable video. Princess Charlotte is such a beautiful little girl.”
Southgate’s message said: “You’re doing a brilliant job. I wish you the very best for the final and we hope you can bring that trophy back.”
And ex-Tottenham striker Kane said: “Hi Lionesses — best of luck for the World Cup final. Amazing journey so far, you should be really proud of yourselves.
“We’re all behind you, so go and get that World Cup win and bring that trophy home.”
Ex-England and Man Utd superstar Beckham shared pictures online of the Lionesses as children.
And he said: “These young footballers never stopped believing and grew up to become our incredible Lionesses. Good luck — whatever happens the whole country is so proud of everything you’ve achieved to get to this historic moment.
“Keep believing, play with the amazing passion and team spirit you show every time you take to the pitch.”
An army of 6,000 England fans will roar on the Lionesses in Sydney’s Stadium Australia.
Some have flown out just for the match. Law boss Harriet Leach, 38, of London said: “I got off the plane on Friday. I came in especially.
