Ronnie, 37, finds himself without a club following last month’s Old Trafford exit.
His World Cup journey is also over after Portugal were dumped out in the quarter-finals by plucky Morocco.
And there are plenty of questions over Ronaldo’s next moves.
The veteran is waiting on offers from Champions League clubs after receiving a record £173million-a-year contract from Al-Nassr.

But reports in Ronaldo’s homeland claim his international future is a lot more certain.
CM Journal claims Ronaldo has already informed Portugal chiefs he intends to continue playing for his country.

But Ronnie apparently sees himself leading his countrymen out at Euro 2024.

The striker is still reeling after being axed from Portugal’s final two World Cup matches.
And he is determined to reclaim his spot after becoming the all-time leading goalscorer in internationals.
Ronaldo’s route back to the side could be aided by Portugal’s stunning reported swoop for Jose Mourinho.

It’s claimed in Italy that the Roma boss has been offered the national team job while remaining in charge of his Serie A side.
Mourinho and Ronaldo enjoyed a close relationship together at Real Madrid, and the duo could end up leading Portugal’s Euro 2024 charge together. More

Players, fans and football legends beg Gareth Southgate to stay on and lead England to victory in Germany at Euro 2024

PLAYERS and fans last night begged Gareth Southgate to stay on as England manager. As he arrived back in the UK from Qatar amid World Cup heartache, he said he will “reflect and review” his position.

But it sparked a huge outpouring of support for Southgate to lead the Three Lions to Euro 2024 victory in Germany in 18 months.
Midfielder Declan Rice said: “I really hope he stays.”
But as dejected players and staff prepared to fly home, a huge swelling of support was growing for Southgate to stay on.
England and Manchester United defender Harry Maguire hailed the Three Lions’ boss as “amazing”.

He said: “I’m sure if you asked every player in the team they wouldn’t be able to speak highly enough of him.”
Ex-England keeper Peter Shilton believes the 52-year-old gaffer can end the men’s 56-year wait for a trophy.
He said: “Southgate must stay on as England manager. We have the basis of a team that will eventually win a big trophy. The future looks bright. Keep the faith.”
Southgate’s young guns outplayed the French world champions at the Al Bayt Stadium but were punished at key moments — while Harry Kane’s uncharacteristic penalty miss late on sealed their fate.

Southgate — who has led England to a World Cup semi and a Euros final — is under contract until December 2024 but will now have talks with the FA over his future.
He refused to commit to staying on for the difficult Euro 2024 campaign — where our first qualifier will be in March against our 2020 conquerors Italy.
He said: “Whenever I’ve finished these tournaments I’ve needed time to make the correct decision.
“Emotionally you go through so many different feelings and the energy that it takes through these tournaments is enormous.
He’s achieved incredible, incredible things for his country. He’s been in the semi-finals, and he’s been in the finals. He’s got to do it again because there are players there, younger players, to take us forward.Paul Parker
“I want to make the right decision, whatever that is for the team, for England, the FA. I think it is right to take time to do that.”
Paul Parker, an Italia 90 England star, last night added to the chorus of support for him to stay.
He said: “Gareth Southgate’s going to go back, and he will want to reflect on what happened, but he’s got to be there for the next tournament — he has to be.
“He’s achieved incredible, incredible things for his country. He’s been in the semi-finals, and he’s been in the finals. He’s got to do it again because there are players there, younger players, to take us forward.”
Former England manager Sam Allardyce said: “I’d be surprised if he’s not carrying on for at least the next two years. There’s nothing better as a manager than looking at a team and saying, ‘I have a very, very good squad and I have a very good team at international level’.
“Every manager wants to work with the best and I think he’s the best England has had for many, many years.
“More young lads are coming through, so we are getting better and hopefully more resilient.
“And in the end, hopefully, we can clinch a tournament.”
Emotionally you go through so many different feelings and the energy that it takes through these tournaments is enormous. I want to make the right decision, whatever that is for the team, for England, the FA. I think it is right to take time to do that.Gareth Southgate
Man United and England legend Gary Neville wants him to remain even after his current contract ends.
He said: “I would love Gareth to stay on for another two years. I’d love him to stay on beyond that, whether it be actually as the coach or whether it be in a role in the FA in the future.”
Fans also pleaded for Southgate to stay after the defeat to France, while Brazilian referee Wilton Sampaio was coming under mounting criticism.
John Jackson, a 59-year-old retired joiner from Gateshead, said: “We were by far the better team against France and would have won if it wasn’t for one kick of the ball and a dodgy ref.
“This England team is still a work in progress but there’s only one man who can lead us to victory in the Euros — and that man is Gareth Southgate.”
England Supporters’ Band trumpeter John Hemmingham, 59, said: “It would be a disaster if we lost him now. We’ve just outplayed the world champions and don’t need a new broom to come in and sweep away all the good work he’s done.”
Sun and TalkTV star Piers Morgan added: “Could anyone else have done better with this (very good) squad of players? I don’t think so.”
Meanwhile, Maguire risked a fine for blasting the ref, who refused two England penalty appeals and ignored a string of French fouls. He said: “It was really, really poor.”
Southgate was seen chatting with Kieran Trippier as the players left yesterday while Jude Bellingham, Rice and Jack Grealish waved and gave the thumbs-up to fans.
Kane was nowhere to be seen as the rest boarded a bus to the airport.

Marcus Rashford HOPES England face dramatic penalty shoot-out at World Cup to get redemption for Euro 2020 miss

MARCUS RASHFORD is hoping for a dramatic penalty-shoot at the World Cup – so he can earn redemption for his Euro 2020 penalty miss. The Manchester United forward was one of three players who suffered heartbreak from the spot in the loss to Italy in the final 16 months ago.

But Rashford has made it clear he will step up if needed by Gareth Southgate here in Qatar.
Rashford, whose team face Wales on Tuesday, said: “I’m hoping that we get to take another penalty in the tournament. So, I’m looking forward to it.
“You never want to miss a penalty. I feel like it’s a great opportunity for forwards, especially, to score goals and obviously they are big moments and as an individual I’ve always been comfortable and I enjoy being in big moments.”
Harry Kane, who suffered a foot injury in the first game, has yet to score at the World Cup and Rashford is ready to take over if Kane is rested against Wales in the final group stage tomorrow.

He said: “Harry’s alright. He’s happy. He’s enjoying his football. But for any forward you want to be scoring goals. I’m sure if he keeps doing what he’s doing he’ll score.”
Incredibly, Rashford scored against Iran with his first touches of the ball since missing the penalty against Italy.
While that game was played at 4pm local time, the goalless draw with the United States started at 10pm local – the same time as Tuesday’s match – and Rashford said he is struggling to get to sleep.
He said: “You have to adapt a little bit in terms of preparation with the late kick-offs. We have a lot of time before the game.

Luke Shaw claimed the reaction of the Wales squad, with the video being leaked online, “wasn’t nice”
But Rashford insisted: “To be honest we’ve not mentioned it. For me, any game in a World Cup’s a big game. We want to go there and give everything to win the game. We tried to do that against the USA.

Gareth Southgate wants to stay as England boss AFTER World Cup as Three Lions learn opponents for Euro 2024 qualifying

GARETH SOUTHGATE is determined to remain as England boss after the World Cup.The defiant Three Lions boss penned a three-year contract after reaching the Euro 2020 final last year.

But he has come under increasing pressure since the Euros, overseeing a disastrous Nations League campaign.
A six-game winless run, including a 4-0 defeat to Hungary in June, has been less than ideal preparation for the Qatar World Cup.
Southgate, 52, was in attendance at yesterday’s Euro 2024 qualifying draw – and outlined his desire to remain in charge for the upcoming campaign.
He said: “As we speak now, I’m contracted to this time in 2024, but I am also well aware in football you have to get results.

“So the plan is there and the desire for continuity is there too, but I also don’t take for granted that you can underperform and expect to stay in that office.”
The Three Lions’ dismal Nations League campaign saw them fall into Pot 2 for the draw – and being drawn alongside wily old foes Italy.
England will face the Azzurri in a rematch of last year’s Euro 2020 final after drawing them from Pot 1.
They will also have to navigate Ukraine, North Macedonia and Malta.

On the opposition, Southgate added: “It’s clearly a tough draw given the quality of the opposition.
“We’ve had draws in qualification that have probably been a little bit more comfortable.
“Although, I’d have to say, Poland and Hungary in the last qualifying group was particularly tough as well. So we’re used to that.
“The draws are what they are, it’s how you perform on the day.
“England’s record against Italy is generally not very good — and we’ve got to improve that.” More

    Southgate hails Ukraine ‘quality’
Gareth Southgate reckons England’s group rivals Ukraine are packed with individual quality and were unlucky to lose 4-0 to the Three Lions in the Euro 2020 quarter-finals.
The England chief also admitted he is unsure about venues and scheduling as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues.
Southgate said: “We know the quality of a lot of [Ukraine’s] players.
“We had a good result against them at Euro 2020 but the scoreline did not reflect the quality of their team. They will be difficult games.”
With Russian banned from the draw by Uefa, Southgate added: “We don’t know what that [games against Ukraine] will look like politically and venue wise.
“All of us, of course, have got more that we are thinking about when we talk about Ukraine than football, but the team themselves football-wise are a very good side.”
‘Ironic’ to draw Italy – but will it be iconic?
England boss Gareth Southgate believes Italy have become the new Croatia – by repeatedly drawing the Three Lions.
The Azzurri beat England in the Euro 2020 final shootout, before drawing 0-0 in June and winning 1-0 at home last month in the Three Lions’ dismal Nations League campaign.
Southgate said: “It’s ironic when you’ve had a fixture like we’ve had and then played them again already again so recently that you seem to have these sort of things.
“We seemed to be playing Croatia every five minutes not so long ago and now its seems we have got that situation with Italy.”

England will also face Ukraine, arguably the strongest team from Pot 3.
And their group was completed by Malta and North Macedonia, who famously ended Italy’s bid to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.

Gunter comfortable in League Two ahead of World Cup
Gunter told SunSport: “The most important thing leading into a major tournament is to make sure you’re getting regular football.
“So from the summer until the World Cup starts, that is three to four months worth of playing time.
“I’m not going to improve or diminish in that space of time so the most important thing was to give myself the best possible chance of playing regular football, which I have done and at a place where I feel comfortable.”
Gunter and Wales will be facing England in the group stage of the Qatar World Cup.
We await their fate for the Euro 2024 qualification with the draw up next!
Gunter fights for Wales spot ahead of Qatar World Cup
Chris Gunter will swap League Two for the World Cup this winter, an exclusive by Justin Allen reveals.
And the defender believes dropping into the EFL’s bottom division to join AFC Wimbledon in the summer gave him the best chance of booking his place on the flight to Qatar.
Gunter, 33, was one of the stars of Wales’ incredible run to the Euro 2016 semi-finals — knocking out tournament favourites Belgium en route.
But the former Reading and Nottingham Forest ace — who followed his Charlton boss Johnnie Jackson to Plough Lane this summer — had no qualms about getting his hands dirty against the likes of Crawley and Barrow.
    How the qualification tournament works
Gareth Southgate’s side are in ‘Pot 2’ today.
Then, when the qualifying tournament begins, twenty teams will book their places in Germany directly via qualifying.
The ten group winners and ten group runners-up will qualify.
The three remaining places at EURO 2024 will be determined by play-off spots via the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League.
Again, Germany qualify for the tournament automatically as hosts.

Uefa set to SCRAP plans for 32-team Euro 2028, but England set to host tournament with all five British Isles nations

UEFA is set to SCRAP plans to turn Euro 2028 into a 32-team tournament. But the decision will not impact on Nyon chiefs’ push to ensure the England-led British Isles bid is handed hosting rights.
England will lead the British Isles in hosting Euro 2028 – which WON’T have 32 teamsCredit: Getty
Senior figures from across Europe have been working on a qualification schedule that would have led to a 32-team tournament.
The plan would have seen smaller groups and fewer games for national teams.
There was, though, increasing concern that with only 55 Uefa members, including up to a dozen minnows who realistically have next to no chance of qualifying, it would destroy the financial value of the campaign, leading to an unwanted black hole in European finances.
And that has led to the surprise rethink, backed by Uefa high command.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
It is now expected that Uefa will confirm, as early as next month, that Euro 2028 will remain a 24-team event.
Sticking with the current tournament model means 50 matches rather than an expansion to 61 as envisaged.
That in turn requires fewer stadiums for the Finals, with matches planned for all five British Isles nations and the Final at Wembley.
Sticking with 24 teams eases some of the burden that would have faced the rival bid from Turkey, which is currently determined to stay in the race despite clear signals from Uefa high command about the requirement for a major money-spinning event.

But Uefa President Aleksander Ceferin is understood to remain firmly in the Five Nation camp, with the final decision taken by the ruling executive committee he runs rather than a vote of the member associations.
The decision, though, could mean just six English grounds being used, two of them – Wembley and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – in the capital.
Villa Park, Old Trafford, the planned new Everton stadium at Bramley Moore Dock and St James’ Park  are likely to complete the English list.
Other matches would be staged at the Principal Stadium in Cardiff, Hampden Park, Dublin’s Aviva Stadium and Croke Park and the Casement Stadium in Belfast, which is scheduled for redevelopment and far larger than Windsor Park. More

The England midfielder said: “My family and friends have had a couple of experiences over the last couple of years which have really shocked them and probably put them off going to future games.
“My dad said after the Champions League final that he was done with it.

“She was trying to get the kids away from all the middle of what was happening and eventually, I think after about 15 or 20 minutes, somebody recognised that she was my wife and they were let in.
