Solskjaer forced to calm down Man Utd anti-Glazers protesters and cops called as they BLOCK stars from entering training

MANCHESTER United fans today broke into the club’s training complex to protest against the failed European Super League project – armed with a banner which read ‘We decide when you play’. Around 20 furious supporters targeted the Aon training complex in Carrington this morning – just hours before the first team squad were due in for training.

The men bypassed security and made their way to the first team training pitch where they unveiled two banners which read ‘Glazers out’ aimed at club owners the Glazer family.
A second read: “51 % MUFC 20” which refers to the German-style ownership of clubs which gives fans a stake in their club.
Pictures of the protest were posted on United fanzine Red Issue which wrote: “Utd fans protesting against the Glazers have blocked both entrances to Carrington.”
The protest comes just 24 hours after United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward announced he was leaving his position at the end of the season.
And on Wednesday, United co-chairman Joel Glazer apologised to fans for United’s part as a founding member of the attempted breakaway league, which was universally hated by fans from all clubs.
He wrote: You made very clear your opposition to the European Super League, and we have listened. We got it wrong, and we want to show that we can put things right.
“Although the wounds are raw and I understand that it will take time for the scars to heal, I am personally committed to rebuilding trust with our fans and learning from the message you delivered with such conviction.”
A Manchester United spokesman later confirmed Solskjaer met with the fans to listen to their concerns before they agreed to leave.

He said: “At approximately 9am this morning a group gained access to the club training ground. The manager and others spoke to them. Buildings were secure and the group has now left the site.”
Some fans congratulated the former player turned boss for meeting with them, with one saying: “Love Ole the manager but I hope he doesn’t become the diplomat the Glazers need in the coming days”.
Another said: “Gaffer and the lads are not the problem. If anything they are on our side.”
Coach Michael Carrick, technical director Darren Fletcher and  midfielder Nemanja Matic also addressed the players.
A source said: “Ole came out onto a balcony and spoke to the fans and appealed to them to leave so as not to disrupt training. He told them the club were sorry about the Super League and understood their anger. The fans they left of their own accord.”
SunSport understands that fans were told to put their phones away and not to record Ole speaking.
They also told him that they ‘did not need a history lesson about Manchester United’.
Questions were asked regarding Ole’s opposition to the Glazer’s takeover as a player, compared to now.
It’s understood the fans blocked the road the players use to access the training ground by parking a transit van across it, causing the stars to get stuck in a tailback.

The source added: “It wasn’t violent and the training ground staff and players weren’t threatened. It just caused a bit of panic and disruption. The security guards asked the protesters to move the van so the players could get in for training and start preparing for the next game.
“None of the lads put their windows down so there was no interaction with the players except for Nemanja.”
Cops attended the scene but made no arrests.
“The manager and others spoke to them. Buildings were secure and the group has now left the site.”
Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher are also understood to have spoken to fans.
Today’s protest was welcomed by some United fans, with Zak7 posting “Well done lads”.
Another wrote: “This is great. Imagine match day.”
Chris added: “Just some lads fighting for what’s rightfully theirs. Not the first time in history, not the last.”
Further fan protests against the club’s American owners are planned outside Old Trafford on Saturday at 3pm.
It’s not the first time United fans have taken direct action against the club.
In January 2020, around 20 fans – believed to be from United’s “Men in Black” hooligan firm launched a protest outside Mr Woodward’s home in Cheshire, during which a firework and a flare were launched into his property.
When news of the Super League was announced United stars Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw were among the players who criticised the way the project had been established, with no consultation with fans.

The Super League collapsed on Tuesday night after fan protests outside Chelsea’s stadium caused the club and also Manchester City to reconsider the plan.
SunSport understands that Woodward was planning on resigning on MONDAY, even before the ESL’s demise.
It is understood that he wasn’t comfortable with the Super League project.
Upon his resignation, he said: “I am extremely proud to have served United and it has been an honour to work for the world’s greatest football club for the past 16 years.”
He added that it will be “difficult to walk away at the end of the year” but that he is “proud of the regeneration of the club’s culture”.
Woodward, 49, played a big role in facilitating the Glazer’s 2005 takeover at Old Trafford.
He was promoted in 2013, following the departure of club stalwart David Gill.
Amid United’s relative lack of success following the end of the Sir Alex Ferguson era, Woodward has been a regular target for fans’ ire.

British Super League being secretly planned with Celtic and Rangers joining Prem in new US-style play-off system

CELTIC and Rangers are wanted to join a BRITISH League as part of the fall-out from the failed Euro breakaway plot. While the Big Six led the humiliating retreat from the Super League debacle, they remain convinced that reform of the Prem is essential.

Celtic are also wanted to join the revamp as part of the fall-out of the failed Euro breakawayCredit: Getty
The potential British Premier League is expected to get the green light from Fifa and Uefa
Top of the list of plans being actively discussed is an offer to the two Glasgow giants to come south of Hadrian’s Wall.
And unlike the Super League shambles which was condemned globally, it’s likely an enlarged Premier League including the Old Firm would be BACKED by Fifa, Uefa and the UK Government.
Celtic and Rangers would jump at the chance to take a slice of the Prem cake, while their inclusion would also see a spike in interest from fans across the world, sponsors and broadcasters.
Even the pair’s SPL rivals are thought likely to be willing to wave goodbye to the two dominant forces north of the border, because it would give them a realistic chance of winning the title and the chance to qualify for the revamped Champions League.
One club source said: “Whether or not the Super League was going to happen, we all feel that the Premier League has to be changed and improved.
“It is time we opened it up to Rangers and Celtic. That would make sense for everyone.”
Reform of the Prem has been a huge discussion point since October’s publication of the Project Big Picture plans drafted by Liverpool and Manchester United.
Prem chief executive Richard Masters was forced to agree to a “strategic review” of the competition’s future, conceding “the status quo is not an option”, which was conducted by US-owned Boston Consulting and is due to report back in June.

What the British Super League will mean for football

But while the Big Six were battered by the ESL backlash, they believe the wind is in their sales over the need for change.
In addition to the Rangers and Celtic plan, one other idea is an end of season top four play-off, similar to that in rugby union and rugby league.
But they are also still pushing, firmly, for a reduction to the 18 team league that was envisaged at the outset of the Prem when it was formed three decades ago.
Another club chief added: “We have never wavered from the belief that 18 clubs is the only sensible way forward.
“It is also what Uefa, Fifa and the European Club Association have long called for.”
That may be a proposal too far for the 14 members of the ‘left behind club’ who ganged up to help win the Super League battle with the Big Six.

But unlike the doomed Super League, there would be global backing for a British League.
Fifa President Gianni Infantino gave his blessing for cross-border leagues when asked about proposals for mergers between Holland and Belgium and Mexico and the MLS.
Infantino said: “If we want teams to play at the highest level around the world we need to have new ideas and we need to see that.
“I am confident the best decisions will be made in that regard but any mergers must be done with respect to the rules.”
And while PM Boris Johnson launched into the Super League debate by insisting he would throw every possible obstacle in the way of the changes, the prospect of including Rangers and Celtic in a cross-border UK league would be a potential factor in the fight against the proposed second Scottish independence referendum.
Ibrox and Parkhead supporters, excited at the prospect of locking horns with England’s big guns, might be tempted to strengthen resistance against the SNP-led breakaway plans.

Real Madrid chief Perez insists European Super League still ALIVE and NONE of Prem’s Big Six have paid to leave

EUROPEAN Super League ring leader Florentino Perez went on an astonishing rant last night and claimed the rebel league is still ALIVE.And the Real Madrid president hit out at Uefa and other football bigwigs for ‘terrible aggression’ and an ‘orchestrated’ attack on the plans – which he says would have SAVED football.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez insisted the European Super League is still onCredit: Reuters
The ESL spectacularly fell apart in just two days of chaos when all six English teams quit on Tuesday night amid a massive backlash.
Newly re-elected Real boss Perez has been one of the most vocal supporters of a breakaway league and was set to be its president.
Now he claims that no clubs have actually left the European Super League… and he insists it is only on standby, despite the uproar.
Speaking on Spanish show El Larguero, he said: “The founder clubs believed in this project. It is not dead. We will keep working.
“Nobody has yet paid the penalisation fee for leaving. We are almost all still in this, they have not left yet.
“Juventus and Milan have not left. Barca are thinking about it. Maybe we can change it a bit – that the top four in England enter, the top four in Spain.
“The important thing is that the big teams play each other, so the kids will watch football.
“The contracts are signed by serious people, businessmen who know this world. We agreed last night to wait and to try and explain better, and we are open to other ideas.”

The Super League shambles was condemned globally with fans joined by football execs and even politicians such as Boris Johnson and royalty in Prince William.
Perez hit out at Uefa for their reaction and for the ‘manipulated campaign’ that domestic leagues were going to be killed by the European Super League.
He said: “There was a campaign, totally manipulated, that we were going to finish the national leagues. That we were ending football, it was terrible. But we were working for football to survive.
Who brought those Chelsea fans to protest? Someone moved them. There were only 40 Chelsea fans, and I could tell who brought them.Florentino Perez
“I have never seen aggression greater on the part of the president of Uefa and other presidents, it was orchestrated. I’ve never seen anything like it – insults, threats, as if we had killed someone, killed football. It was like we had thrown an atomic bomb.
“The problems is they killed us the very next day, with terrible aggression. We have made some mistakes for sure. But they knew what we were going to do, and were waiting for us. Those who do not want to lose their privileges.
“The English PM said things, then the fans and people wanted to damage us. But when all this passes, and we see the reality, lets see what happens. These clubs are going to lose millions of euros, and cannot do that, apart from those in England.
“There are people with privileges who do not want to lose them, and are willing to run clubs, although when the clubs are ruined they will lose their privileges.”

Manchester City were the first English team to withdraw on Tuesday with Chelsea close behind.
Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham all followed within minutes of each other later that night.
There were widespread protests at football ground around the country – including at Chelsea where Petr Cech was seen remonstrating with fans.
Yet Perez reckons demonstrations were STAGED.
Perez, 74, said: “Who brought those Chelsea fans to protest? Someone moved them – just like here someone gave Cadiz jerseys (against Super League).
“There were only 40 Chelsea fans, and I could tell who brought them.”

The Real chief continued: “There was someone in the English six clubs who did not have much interest. That started to affect the others, there was fear. One of the English clubs was never really convinced.
“The English clubs tried to do something, but they were being told they were killing football. But there is no other solution than the Super League.”
And, despite everything, Perez insists that the European Super League would’ve SAVED football despite creating a cartel of big clubs guaranteed extra money and entry every year.
A big guy wears a big suit, a small guy wears a small suit. Everyone has to be comfortable with the suit they wear.Florentino Perez
He claimed: “It cannot be that in England, the six lose money, and 14 make money. In Spain the top three lose money, and the others make money. It cannot continue – at the moment the rich are those who are losing money.
“This is a pyramid, and the money runs down, there would be money for everyone. If Nadal plays Federer, everyone watches, if Nadal plays the number 80 in the world, nobody watches.
“Football is maintained by the biggest clubs – it always has been. Cristiano vs Messi was great, not just for Madrid and Barca, but for Spanish football, and football in general.

“There are games that nobody watches – the truth is I struggle to watch them. In Spain, in England, in Italy.
“In general, there will not be big transfers this summer. When money does not flow from the rich clubs to the poor clubs, everyone suffers.
“A big guy wears a big suit, a small guy wears a small suit. Everyone has to be comfortable with the suit they wear.
“And the reality comes from the TV viewer figures. This is not capricious, I am just trying to help.”

Rangers and Celtic’s rivals are thought likely to back their departure for a British Super League.
These clubs are said to feel that the Old Firm’s departure would allow them to win the title and have a shot at qualifying for the revamped Champions League.
Meanwhile a Premier League club source told SunSport: “Whether or not the Super League was going to happen, we all feel that the Premier League has to be changed and improved.
“It is time we opened it up to Rangers and Celtic. That would make sense for everyone.”

Executives at the Premier League’s top six are keen on an 18-team Premier League, in addition to inviting Celtic and Rangers, writes Martin Lipton.
A club chief told SunSport: “We have never wavered from the belief that 18 clubs is the only sensible way forward.
“It is also what Uefa, Fifa and the European Club Association have long called for.”
However that proposal would likely face stiff resistance from the 14 clubs who teamed up to block the top six’s Super League plans.
The Premier League would also be interested in introducing an MLS-style playoff system for the British Super League.

Fernandes sees Pogba’s future as key if United are going to make up the gap to Manchester City, with the Frenchman out of contract in 2022.
SunSport revealed on March 10 how the club had approached Fernandes over a new double-your-money five-year contract worth £200,000 a week.
But he did not want to enter talks until he saw the club’s ambition in the transfer market this summer, with Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho targets.
Now he wants assurances over Pogba’s future too as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans for an assault on the title next season.

“We have noted John W Henry’s apology, but this PR exercise is too little, too late.
“Our owners have thrown everyone under the bus, supporters, manager, players and staff, and humiliated themselves through sheer greed and arrogance.

“It would have been a glaring injustice, and an insult to the values of sport.

    BLUE DEMANDS
Chairman Bruce Buck and chief executive Guy Laurence have been told to resign by Chelsea Supporters’ Trust after withdrawing from the planned European Super League.
A statement read: “The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust is appalled with the tone and insincerity of the statement issued by CFC today.
“We request a full and in-depth explanation as to why the board took the decision to turn their back on the European competition and for CFC to explain why they signed up to the Super League without prior consultation with their loyal supporters.
“We are disappointed that an apology has not been included in the statement. The legacy of our club was put at risk for what appears to have been solely for financial gain.
“The CST presently have little or no confidence in our current leadership at board level. On Monday, Bruce Buck extensively defended CFC’s plan to remain in the Super League at a fans’ forum meeting.
“Buck, alongside Laurence, appears to have given no consideration towards the loyal supporters, so their positions would seem untenable moving forward.
“Our relations with CFC will remain frayed until we have a better understanding of why this decision happened and we are assured that change and safeguards are put in place.
“The CST will not rest until we are comfortable that change and protections are put in place, because 116 years of history was jeopardised. This is our club and will remain our club.”

It read: “We got it wrong and we want to show that we can put things right.
“Although the wounds are raw and it will take time for the scars to heal, I am personally committed to rebuilding trust with our fans and learning from the message you delivered with such conviction.
“In seeking to create a more stable foundation for the game, we failed to show enough respect for its deep-rooted traditions and for that we are sorry.
“This is the world’s greatest football club and we apologise unreservedly for the unrest caused during these past few days.”

    SUMMER LOVIN’
Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly in talks to battle it out in two pre-season friendlies this summer.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, both teams could miss out on playing abroad if travel restrictions remain in place.
And according to the Mirror, United and Liverpool are in negotiations over staging lucrative friendlies ahead of the 2021-2022 season.
They claim that a first meeting could take place at Old Trafford in late July, before Anfield hosts the second clash in early August.
It has also been suggested that the games could be used as test events for capacity crowds ahead of the new Premier League campaign which starts on August 14.

    NEW START
Arsenal fans are desperate for Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote to buy the club following Stan Kroenke’s involvement in the disastrous European Super League.
The magnate, worth £8.3billion, invested in an oil refinery and claimed it would be operational this year, allowing him to focus on new projects which could include buying Arsenal.
Dangote said in January 2020: “It is a team that yes, I would like to buy some day.
“I’m trying to finish building the company and then after we finish, maybe some time in 2021, we can.
“I’m not buying Arsenal right now, I’m buying Arsenal when I finish all these projects because I’m trying to take the company to the next level.”

Angry fans refuse to accept owners’ European Super League apologies and say ‘crocodile tears will not wash’

FURIOUS fans have refused to accept grovelling European Super League apologies from the billionaire American owners of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal.Old Trafford bigwig Joel Glazer and Liverpool’s John W Henry yesterday said sorry for trying to force through the despised £4.6billion breakaway closed-shop competition.

Their statements followed an apology from another of the Prem’s so-called ‘snakes’ Arsenal, although owner Stan Kroenke did not put his name to it.
But the words only sparked an angry backlash from their club’s supporters, with calls for them all to quit.
Henry, head of Anfield’s owners FSG, said sorry to Kop boss Jurgen Klopp, the players, CEO Billy Hogan and everyone at the current top-flight champions during a 146-second video.
But powerful supporters group Spirit of Shankly blasted: “These crocodile tears will not wash.
“We have always asked for honesty, integrity and transparency from club owners FSG, but the arrogance and deception they have shown behind this money-grab is frightening, but not surprising.
“We have noted John W Henry’s apology, but this PR exercise is too little, too late.
“Our owners have thrown everyone under the bus, supporters, manager, players and staff, and humiliated themselves through sheer greed and arrogance.
“This debacle must be a catalyst for real change, not an exercise in damage limitation.

“We need a fundamental change in football governance, one that is fair for the whole football pyramid, not just the rapacious elite.”
Henry took personal responsibility for banding together with the rest of the Big Six rebels, who pulled out of the project following a huge backlash from fans, the government, the Premier League and Uefa.
Henry, 71, declared: “Over these 48 hours you were very clear that it would not stand. We heard you. I heard you.
“I want to apologise to Jurgen, Billy, the players and everyone who works so hard at Liverpool to make our fans proud.
“They have absolutely no responsibility for this disruption. They were the most disrupted and unfairly so.
“This is what hurts most. They love your club and work to make you proud every day.

“I know the entire LFC team has the expertise, leadership and passion necessary to rebuild trust and help us move forward.
“I hope you’ll understand that even when we make mistakes, we’re trying to work in your club’s best interests.
“In this endeavour I’ve let you down.”
Yet the Spirit of Shankly fans insist the past three days had been “sickening.”
They added: “Actions speak louder than hollow words.
“Liverpool Football Club is not an American franchise but a community steeped in history and tradition.
“We will consult with our members to gauge their opinion on our next step.”
Liverpool owner John Henry apologises to fans in a video
That step could even be a boycott of Anfield when the gates are opened again, especially following last year’s embarrassing U-turn on plans to furlough 200 staff amidst the Covid crisis.
Glazer sent an open letter to United fans, admitting it will “take time for the scars to heal.”
He said: “You made very clear your opposition to the European Super League and we have listened.
“We got it wrong and we want to show we can put things right.
“Although the wounds are raw, I am personally committed to rebuilding trust with our fans and learning from the message you delivered with such conviction.
“In seeking to create a more stable foundation for the game, we failed to show enough respect for its deep-rooted traditions –promotion, relegation, the pyramid – and for that we are sorry.
“We apologise unreservedly for the unrest caused during these past few days.”

However, Manchester United Supporters’ Trust chief Duncan Drasdo said: “It doesn’t mean much without further commitment for a change of ownership.”
And a MUST spokesperson added: “We all know until they felt forced to withdraw they were determined to proceed with their Super League project – regardless of opposition.
“Ultimately Joel’s silence since 2005 says more than this message.
“We cannot just carry on as if nothing has happened. This is a watershed moment and we need to see genuine change as a result.
“The message we want to hear from the owners is that they are putting in place the Fan Share Scheme which will begin the transfer of ownership to the real supporters of our club – the people who have it’s best interests at heart.”
Some 200 miles away in London, Arsenal fans accused Kroenke of shaming the club – and blasted him for not even having the courage to put his own name to the club’s ESL apology.

Furious Gunners fans are planning a “Kroenke Out” protest before tomorrow’s home Prem game against Everton.
And Tim Payton of the Arsenal Supporters Trust, fumed: “It’s certainly not all right. The apology is signed by the board – it should have Stan Kroenke’s name on it, he should apologise.
“He is the architect of this, he’s the overseas franchise investor who embarrassed and shamed our club and English football.”
Kroenke has endured a fractious relationship with Arsenal supporters since his first involvement in 2007 and the ill-feeling only intensified when he became the sole owner of the club in August 2018.
Fellow Trust board member Akhil Vyas added: “He’s been such an absent owner that he will probably just hide like an absolute coward, hoping it just blows over.
“Hate is a strong word, but we really dislike our owners.
“It’s an absolute lack of respect for fans – Kroenke is not interested and that is why he is the wrong owner.”

Manchester City and Chelsea were the first of the Big Six to withdraw from the ESL on Tuesday, later followed by Arsenal, Tottenham and project ringleaders United and Liverpool.
Etihad chief executive Ferran Soriano yesterday issued an apology to every City fan for the “disappointment, frustration and anguish” caused.
He said: “The board deeply regrets taking a decision that lost sight of the historic values of the club.

“I want to say sorry to the fans again. There was confusion.
“Sport is about dreams and meritocracy: we have to take this as a lesson.

Maldini’s words mirror those of many managers of the so-called dirty dozen clubs.
But as he is such an icon of Italian football, and in an even more senior position, the ex-Azzurri defender being kept in the dark might seem even more shocking.
The half-dozen rich giants from Italy and Spain set to join the ESL admitted defeat for the project after the English ‘Big Six’ withdrew on Wednesday night.

A fan-led backlash left the ESL in tatters just three days after the announcement 12 rebel clubs were forming a money-spinning breakaway league without relegation.
And ahead of Wednesday’s Premier League clash at Aston Villa, City “deeply regretted” being one of the ‘Big Six’ English clubs involved.
Rather than posting a website message they emailed a letter saying: “As you know, Manchester City has formally enacted the procedures to withdraw from the group developing plans for a European Super League.
“As always, when we make choices and decisions, we do so with the best interests of the club in mind and we believed that being part of such an initiative could give us a voice that might be imperative to our future ability to succeed and grow.
“However, in making that choice we failed to remind ourselves of the unbreakable link between the passion of our fans and the right to have the opportunity to earn success.
“It is a truth that is fundamental to the DNA of Manchester City and the board deeply regrets taking a decision that lost sight of the historic values of the club.

The Duke of Cambridge said he is “glad the united voice of football fans has been heard and listened to” and called for the moment to be used to “secure the future health of the game at all levels”.
Writing on Twitter, he added: “As President of the FA, I’m committed to playing my part in that work.”
The future king waded into the row on Monday, blasting the European Super League for the “damage” it would cause to the “entire football community”.
The Duke, who is also President of the Football Association, said he shared the same concerns of fans about the new league.
He said earlier this week: “Now, more than ever, we must protect the entire football community – from the top level to the grassroots – and the values of competition and fairness at its core.
“I share the concerns of fans about the proposed Super League and the damage it risks causing to the game we love.”
    SUPER LEAGUE OVER
It comes after Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid quit the hated league on Wednesday morning, with AC Milan doing so in the early afternoon.
Barcelona are set to join them it’s claimed, leaving just TWO of the original 12 clubs – Juventus and Real Madrid.
And on Wednesday morning, Juventus chairman Agnelli – who, along with Real Madrid chief Florentino Perez, was seen as a ringleader for the project – admitted there was no way the tournament could still go ahead.
Asked if the ESL would happen, Agnelli admitted defeat, saying: “To be frank and honest, no. Evidently that is not the case.”
His words came just 12 hours after he claimed the European Super League was ‘moving forward’ despite Premier League clubs withdrawing.
Shortly before an emergency meeting on Tuesday night, Agnelli told La Repubblica: “There is a blood pact binding our clubs together.
“The Super League project has a 100 per cent likelihood of success.
    “We are moving forward.”
Eaerlier on Wednesday morning, European Super League chiefs claimed the competition would still go ahead despite the setback in a statement.

A statement released by the European Super League claimed the tournament will ‘reshape’ and go ahead

It read: “The European Super League is convinced the current status quo of European football needs to change.
“We are proposing a new European competition because the existing system does not work.
“Our proposal is aimed at allowing the sport to evolve while generating resources and stability for the full football pyramid.
“[This includes] helping to overcome the financial difficulties experienced by the entire football community as a result of the pandemic.
“It would also provide materially enhanced solidarity payments to all football stakeholders.”
Released after the Premier League clubs’ withdrawal, the statement continued by slamming fan pressure and admitting the European Super League would now need to be ‘reshaped’.
It read: “Despite the announced departure of the English clubs, forced to take such decisions due to pressure put on them, we are convinced our proposal is fully aligned with European law and regulations.
“[That] was demonstrated by a court decision to protect the Super League from third-party actions.
“Given the current circumstances, we shall reconsider the most appropriate steps to reshape the project, always having in mind our goals of offering fans the best experience possible while enhancing solidarity payments for the entire football community.”

Following the news of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham’s withdrawal, more clubs began to drop out.
Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan both called time on the project within minutes of each other on Wednesday morning before AC Milan following around lunch-time.
Barcelona are set to follow, according to numerous reports in Europe.
That would leave just Real Madrid and Juventus as ‘founding members’.
However, even Juventus admitted there were ‘reduced possibilities’ for the tournament now.
And given Agnelli’s pessimistic stance on the European Super League’s future, it appears the breakaway league has been scrapped.
As yet, there has been no official announcement from tournament bosses.

But the English Football League ‘welcomed’ the decision in a statement.
A statement read: “The EFL is heartened by the response.
“We remain proud to be part of a unified footballing system that promotes open competition, gives everybody a chance to dream and continues to inspire generations of young people in the communities from where our Clubs take their name.
“The message is clear that the pyramid must be protected above all.
“The European Super League failed in part due to a model of distorted and unfair financial distributions, a criticism that can also be levelled at the current financial model in our own domestic game.”
