      Man Utd land nightmare Europa League quarter-final draw against bogey team they’ve NEVER beaten

      MANCHESTER UNITED have landed a tough quarter-final draw against Sevilla in the Europa League.United have already seen off Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Betis in the knockout stages, as well as Real Sociedad in the group.

      But they will return to Iberia for a third time after landing Sevilla.
      And to make matters worse, they’ve never beaten the LaLiga outfit in three attempts.
      The Red Devils managed a draw and then a defeat in the 2018 Champions League last 16.
      And Sevilla then secured victory in 2020’s Europa League semi.

      Should United manage to make it past Sevilla, they then face a hard semi-final against either Juventus or Sporting Lisbon.
      The latter knocked out Arsenal on penalties last night, denying the English public a potential Premier League showdown.
      And they now have a mouthwatering tie against Italian giants Juventus to look forward to.
      Elsewhere, Bayer Leverkusen got the best tie of the round against minnows Union Saint-Gilloise.

      David Moyes’ men have made a mockery of their Prem struggles with a 100 per cent winning record in Europe.
      Now they take on the team currently fifth in the Jupiler League for a place in the semi-finals.
      And the Hammers, who reached the semi-finals of the Europa League last term, could have a repeat journey for the last four clash.
      If they beat Gent, West Ham will play the winners of the tie between Dutch side Alkmaar and Belgians Anderlecht, whom they have already beaten twice this season.

      Sevilla have struggled in La Liga, currently 13th and only two points clear of the relegation zone after finishing third behind Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund to exit the Champions League at the group stage, writes SunSport’s Martin Lipton.
      Manchester United, though, have not beaten Jorge Sampaoli’s team in their three previous meetings. After a goalless away draw, Jose Mourinho’s side succumbed 2-1 at home in the last 16 of the Champions League in 2018.
      Three years later, in the Covid-interrupted 2019-20 season, United lost 2-1 in a one-off Europa League tie in Cologne after Bruno Fernandes had given them an early penalty advantage.
      Juve, who meet Arsenal’s penalty shoot-out conquerors Sporting Lisbon, need to win the Europa League to qualify for next year’s Champions League unless they can get the 15 point deduction for transfer market manipulation and financial irregularities overturned.
      The points deduction means the Turin side are 10 points behind fourth-placed Milan to stand seventh in Serie A. The other half of the draw sees Feyenoord host Mourino’s current club Roma for the right to play at home to Bayer Leverkusen or Belgians Union Saint-Gilloise.

      Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag was pleased with the result against Real Betis but admitted there are areas that still need to improve.
      Ten Hag told BT Sport: “I am happy but we like challenges and we knew that Betis is a good team, we saw that against Real Madrid and Barcelona. But we beat them twice so I think we performed very well.
      “I think we could have taken the lead but there were moments in rest defence and our defensive transition when they could break. We had to avoid that and keep more control on the ball and use the overload in the midfield. We didn’t always do it.
      “Second half was much better but they also lost energy, especially after the first goal. We were much better on the ball, much more calm, kept the ball in the opponent’s half, made them run and then you see we created chances.”

      Ten Hag’s rule
      Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been quick to stamp his authority, writes GIACOMO PISA.
      Ten Hag has not been afraid to lay down the law since taking over as boss.
      Evidence of that includes the brutal extra running after the loss to Brentford earlier in the season, benching Marcus Rashford for being late before the win over Wolves, and axing Cristiano Ronaldo altogether.

      Kim K, 42, made a shock appearance in North London last night and was in attendance for Arsenal’s Europa League clash with Sporting.
      She shared posts of the matchday programme and KSI and Logan Paul’s Prime drink.
      Kim, who is said to be filming a documentary in London, took son Saint along with her to the game.
      She uploaded a video to her 348million Instagram followers of Saint in a Katie McCabe home shirt cheering on Bukayo Saka.

      However, it did not end well for Arsenal as they crashed out at the last-16 stage following a penalty shootout.
      Gabriel Martinelli missed the crucial spot-kick after a 1-1 draw after extra-time.
      And supporters took to Twitter to try and get Kim banned from returning to the ground after the exit, especially with the crucial Premier League title run-in hotting up.
      They even mentioned the so-called Kardashian curse, a reference to the numerous men to have struggled after dating the sisters.

      But Mikel Arteta had already been dealt a huge blow earlier in the evening.
      Japan star Tomiyasu was forced off injured after just nine minutes.
      He appeared to be in agony after overstretching for a tackle.

      And Tomiyasu was hauled off to be replaced by Ben White.
      Fans are keeping their fingers crossed for good news, with versatile Tomiyasu proving himself to be a key squad player.
      But their worst fears could yet be realised after the ace was photographed leaving the Emirates with the support of crutches.
      Tomiyasu kept his right foot off the floor as he hobbled out of the stadium.

      But Arteta insisted: “When you take the decision to take a penalty, the possibility of missing is always there. But Gabi will learn from it like Bukayo Saka did two years ago.
      “This result is a huge blow. We really wanted to go through and fight for this competition. We tried for 120 minutes and penalties but it wasn’t enough.
      “The effort the boys put in even when we were not at our best and the hunger they showed to win was incredible.

      But Arteta is now facing an Arsenal defensive dilemma after William Saliba and Takehiro Timiyasu were both forced off by injury in the first 20 minutes of last night’s tie.
      He said: “Tomi looks really serious from his immediate reaction and what he said to me when he came off. It’s very difficult to know how bad his injury is going to be.
      “Saliba had some discomfort and we had to take him  off but we’ve been carrying injuries throughout the season and we’ve always managed to deal with that.
      “When they came off so early we were really restricted with the changes because we only had one more window and one sub left.
      “So we had to take Gabriel Jesus off at half-time because he was coming back from injury and we knew the game could go to extra-time so we had to manage the subs. But he looked OK.”
      Skipper Martin Odegaard said: “It’s a big blow to go out of this competition but we have to remember it’s been a great season and all we can do now is look forward to the League.
      “We win together and we lose together. When we’re winning everyone is happy and when we lose we have to pick up the spirit.,
      “We did enough in some periods but for most of the game we weren’t on the level we should be.

      Gabriel Martinelli was left heart-broken when his shoot-out penalty was saved by keeper Antonio Adan.
      And though Arsenal still have the chance to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points on Sunday, Arteta will still be counting the cost of going so strong in a competition which has never been top of the club’s priorities.
      For first-half injuries to Takehiro Tomiyasu and William Saliba means they are now facing a defensive dilemma just when they need all hands to the pump.
      And with Gabriel Jesus only lasting 45 minutes before being replaced by Leandro Trossard, many fans will be wondering why Arteta took so many risks.

      Yet it wasn’t so much the injuries as the nature of this defeat which will be causing Arteta sleepless nights.
      Just as in the first leg in Lisbon last week, his team were unable to hold on to an early lead and were repeatedly exposed by the raw pace of Sporting’s forwards.
      And while it might have required an extraordinary 46-yard equaliser to drag the former Portuguese Champions back into this tie, no-one can deny that they deserved their place in the quarter-final draw.
      In the end it took a penalty shoot-out to finally separate two teams who gave their absolute all in this relentless battle of wills.

      Aaron Ramsdale went the right way for all five Sporting pens but just couldn’t keep any of them out of his net.
      And though Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard all hit the back of the net, Martinelli’s miss was an agonising way for Arsenal to exit the competition.
      Yet no-one could have seen such a dramatic finale coming when Arsenal took the lead in the 19th minute after Jorginho’s piercing through ball had sent Gabriel Martinelli haring in on goal.
      And though Adan was able to keep out the young Brazilian’s low shot with an outstretched boot, he was powerless to prevent Xhaka’s follow-up thumped into the roof of the net.
      Jesus thought he should have had a penalty when he was upended by Matheus Reis but had strayed marginally offside before he raced into the area.
      And he was out of luck again in the 30th minute when he weaved his way past three defenders but was thwarted by another fine reaction save from Adan.
      Yet it was never straightforward for Arsenal and they were fortunate to escape a mix-up between Oleksandr Zinchenko and Ramsdale following a long punt out by Adan.
      While both men left it to the other to deal with the threat, Marcus Edwards was allowed to get a clear sight of goal before Zinchenko finally stepped in to block.

      There was another lack of communication in the ranks shortly before half-time and this time Jermiah St. Juste was able to charge right through the heart of the Arsenal defence before firing over from the edge of the area.
      Arsenal seemed intent on sleepwalking their way into trouble and sure enough they found themselves deep in the brown stuff in the 62nd minute when they were hit with an absolute bolt from the blue.
      Xhaka and Jorginho were unable to retain possession but there still seemed little danger when Pedro Goncalves took possession on the halfway line.
