He said: “This was avoidable. All science and research tell you players need a certain time to recover.
“It is also part of the schedule that we are now finding ourselves in this situation and now we can only pray he is not dropping off.”
Rashford has played 52 games this season for club and country.
He recently pulled out of the England squad for their Euros double header against Italy and Ukraine with a knock.
He went on a break to New York during that time which Ten Hag said was good for him to turn off totally from football for a while.

He came on as a sub for a third game in a row on Saturday and got his first goal since February 1. More

But the table-topping Gunners have confirmed the Japan full-back will be out until the summer following knee surgery, whereas Saliba could be back soon after the international break.
Tomiyasu, 24, insists he will use his frustration positively.
First he re-posted a message from left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko that said: “Come back stronger brother!”
Then he stated on Instagram: “Heads up and stay positive.

The full-back underwent knee surgery in London earlier today and doctors deemed he will have to miss the rest of the campaign.
Arsenal issued the following statement: “Following his substitution during last Thursday’s Europa League match, subsequent assessments have confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu sustained a significant injury to his right knee.
“Tomi [Tomiyasu] has had successful surgery in London on Tuesday and will be ruled out for the remainder of this season.

This poses as a major blow for Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes as manager Mikel Arteta only has Ben White at right-back until May.
The Gunners sent Cedric Soares out on loan to Fulham during the January transfer window.
Therefore, White, who plays predominantly as a centre-back, will have to cover the right flank in defence.
However, the England international has stood out in this position since the start of the campaign.

The 25-year-old perfectly compliments Arteta’s back four, which also consists of William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
However, the Spanish tactician has also dealt with another injury blow as Saliba also limped out on Thursday’s Europa League exit.
The centre-back was ruled out of Sunday’s Premier League win against Crystal Palace.
And reports suggest the France international could be out for “several weeks”, and is set to withdraw from international duty. More

Newcastle set for summer overhaul with SIX transfers targeted and shock first-team star could be sold

While qualification for the Champions League is not out of the question, this spot would be good enough for them to qualify for the Europa League next season.
However, if their form were to drop, they could still qualify for the Europa Conference League should they finish 7th.
A European campaign would be the club’s first for a decade, as they played in the Europa League in the 2012/13 season.
And to prepare for this, The Telegraph have reported that the club are looking to sign six players to improve the squad.
    READ MORE IN FOOTBALL
One position is at left-back with Dan Burn being an effective player to cover the role, but the report suggests that it is an area to improve on.
The club has been heavily linked with a move for Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney, who would fit the description.
The second spot that would be upgraded is at centre-back, as the club would like to find a world-class partner for summer signing Sven Botman.
Newcastle would also be keen on signing two central midfielders, with the report picking Conor Gallagher and James Maddison as targets.

The club tried to buy Maddison last summer, but a move fell through as Leicester City did not want to lose their star player.
While Gallagher could be keen on a move up north with the promise of more game time then he is currently getting at Chelsea.
The other two spots that would be strengthened would be in the attack with a striker to replace injury-prone Callum Wilson.
Alexander Isak has impressed in recent weeks, but some quality competition can only benefit the club’s firepower options.
The final spot that could be invested in is at the winger position.
Allan Saint-Maximin has been a star for the club since his arrival from Nice but injuries have seen his influence start to drop.
The report suggests that the winger could be sold should “he agitate for a move” and therefore the club would need a replacement.
