Tottenham play away at Lokomotiv Plovdiv in Europa League while AC Milan will face Irish minnows Shamrock Rovers

TOTTENHAM must travel away to Bulgarian minnows Lokomotiv Plovdiv in the second round of Europa League qualifying.
And as a result of the same draw Serie A giants AC Milan will travel to Irish side Shamrock Rovers.

    2

Harry Kane’s Tottenham will face Bulgarian minnows Lokomotiv Plivdov in the Europa League

    2

And Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s AC Milan will travel to play Shamrock Rovers
The ties take place on September 17.
All the games will take place as single-leg encounters, rather than home and way clashes, as a result of coronavirus.
If the ties are level after 90 minutes, extra-time and penalties will be used to decide the winners.

Lokomotiv Plovdiv play in the humble 13,000 seat Lokomotiv Stadium in the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv.

The taxing trip, just four days after Tottenham’s Premier League opener at home to Everton, is only taking place because of Arsenal.
Had their bitter rivals lost to Chelsea in the FA Cup final, Tottenham would have been entering the Europa League at a later stage.
Lokomotiv Plovdiv beat Montenegrin side Iskra in the first qualifying round to set up the mammoth glamour tie with Jose Mourinho’s team.
This will not be Plovdiv’s first European clash with an English side having lost to Bolton in a Uefa Cup play-off in the 2005/06 season.

And the Railwaymen managed to reach the third round of the Europa League last season but were beaten by French side Strasbourg.
Elsewhere, West Ham cult hero Joey O’Brien’s winning penalty in Shamrock’s 13-12 penalty shootout victory over Finnish side Ilves Tampere last Thursday has led to a massive reward.

They play AC Milan in what is perhaps the biggest game in the Dublin club’s history.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic will lead a host of top stars to the 8,000 capacity Tallaght Stadium.
But Irish fans will unfortunately miss out on the clash as a result of Covid-19 restrictions.

Romelu Lukaku vows to come back stronger after Europa League final own goal in emotional post to Inter Milan fans

ROMELU LUKAKU vowed to come back stronger after his costly own goal in the Europa League final in an emotional post to Inter Milan fans.
The former Manchester United striker continued his stunning form as he opened the scoring from the spot against Sevilla.

    1

Romelu Lukaku vowed to come back stronger following his own goal in the Europa League
But with 15 minutes to go, and the scored levelled at 2-2, Lukaku went from hero to zero as he deflected Diego Carlos’s acrobatic effort into his own net.
The Belgian was so devastated he did not even collect his runners-up medal.
But now, in his first signing on social media since Friday’s final, he has promised to “fight back” after the setback and hailed Inter’s team “unity”.
Lukaku wrote on Instagram: “First of all i want to say thank you for all what you guys have done for my family and myself.

“This year as a team we grown a lot together and it’s an honour to represent a club that i loved since i’ve been a kid.
“Yes what happened in the final p***d me off but i will fight back.
“I never had s*** the easy way in life as many of you know and this experience will make me stronger.

“1 thing is for sure inter is not dead and this experience will make us better as a team! there’s unity and we’re heading the right direction.

“To the fans i want to say thank you for being so supportive every game home or away i love you guys.
“I appreciate the messages i’ve got. We will be back sempre forza inter.”

Barcelona rage at Rakitic for celebrating Sevilla’s Europa win by jumping into pool live on TV so soon after Bayern loss

BARCELONA were reportedly left fuming after Ivan Rakitic celebrated Sevilla’s Europa League triumph live on TV.
The Croatian spent three seasons with the Andalusian club, winning the same competition once, before signing for Barcelona in 2014.

    2

Ivan Rakitic appeared on live TV to hail Sevilla’s latest Europa League win

    2

The Barcelona midfielder leapt into his pool to celebrate
And Sevilla’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Inter Milan on Friday night sent the midfielder into a frenzy.
When interviewed live on TV from his home, a beaming Rakitic celebrated by jumping into his swimming pool.
The soaking star gave a thumbs up and laughed as a round of applause from the studio greeted his escapade.
However there were no friendly claps from the Camp Nou, where club bosses were far from pleased to see the length of their player’s celebrations.

Mundo Deportivo report that Barcelona were furious with Rakitic’s response to a fellow LaLiga side’s success.
A congratulatory tweet would have been perfectly acceptable, it is said, but the reaction was certainly not deemed fitting amid the Catalans’ own woe.
    TOO SOON?
Just a week earlier, Barcelona had been dumped out of the Champions League after an 8-2 rout at the hands of Bayern Munich.
Alarm bells have been continually ringing around the club since then with coach Quique Setien and sporting director Eric Abidal leaving their roles, amid fears over Lionel Messi’s desire to stick around.

Rakitic did not play in the Lisbon thrashing having lost his place as a guaranteed starter under Setien.
With just a year left on his contract, the 32-year-old is potentially heading for a move with Sevilla reportedly an option.

A report from Sport earlier in the month suggested Julen Lopetegui’s side were “waiting for a sign” from Rakitic – which certainly appears to have now arrived.
Barcelona are said to be open to a sale with this their last chance to cash in on the four-time LaLiga winner.
Yet, alternative moves touted to Italy or Arsenal are described as potentially more lucrative for the club, leading to a potential stand-off if his desired move to Sevilla becomes a serious option.

Watch furious Antonio Conte scream ‘see me after the game’ as Sevilla’s Ever Banega takes mickey out of Inter boss’ hair

ANTONIO CONTE had salt rubbed into his wounds as his Inter Milan suffered Europa League agony against Sevilla.
The Italians were defeated 3-2 in the final by the Spaniards after a thrilling encounter in Cologne.

However, the former Chelsea coach suffered further misery after he was mocked by opposition midfielder Ever Banega.
The Sevilla midfielder previously had a miserable and unsuccessful spell with the San Siro outfit.
And according to various outlets, he decided to mock Conte’s hair during a feisty exchange during the clash.
Banega is reported to have started the row, saying: “Let’s see if that wig is real”.

Conte, who has undergone a successful hair transplant, was understandably fuming about the gesture early doors in the contest.
And he allegedly told the Argentine he would “see him after the game”.
During the verbal exchange, Banega could be seen rubbing the top of his own head, appearing to mock Conte.
After suffering from hair loss, Conte, now 51, had three transplant procedures before going into management in 2007.

The former midfielder even travelled to Vancouver in Canada to remedy his battle with baldness after two botched attempts to reverse the process in his native Italy.
Conte is well known for his animated antics on the touchline.

Banega and his team-mates did have the last laugh as they secured the prize in Germany.
A brace from Luuk De Jong and a fabulous overhead kick from Diego Carlos, that was unfortunately deflected in off Romelu Lukaku, sealed a 3-2 win for the LaLiga outfit. More

Newcastle fans can’t believe it as flop Luuk De Jong scores TWO stunning headers for Sevilla in Europa League win

NEWCASTLE fans cannot believe that Sevilla star Luuk De Jong is the same player who flopped for them – although one cheeky Magpie claimed he learned a lot from Shola Ameobi.
The 29-year–old striker endured a miserable time on Tyneside during a loan spell back in 2014.

    1

He left the North East having failed to hit the target in his 12 appearances for the club.
Many of the St James’ Park faithful would not have backed on hearing about him again, but the Dutchman has found himself back in the headlines this week.
He came off the bench to grab the winner as Sevilla defeated Manchester United 2-1 last weekend to seal their place in the Europa League Final.
And after his efforts were rewarded with a start in the final, he backed up his manager’s faith with a brilliant first half double as Sevilla beat Inter 3-2.

Romelu Lukaku scored after just five minutes to continue his impressive run of form this season.
But De Jong first grabbed the equaliser against Inter a superb diving header to meet a Jesus Navas cross.

He then rose again to head Ever Banega’s delivery beyond Samir Handanovic’s dive and into the far corner to give his side the lead.
Diego Godin hit back for Inter just before the break to leave the game in the balance.

And with the match looking like it was going to extra-time, it was heartbreak for Lukaku who inadvertently deflected in Diego Carlos’ bicycle kick late on.
The pair of goals made it 122 in 250 appearances since De Jong’s fateful spell at Newcastle – and the Premier League side’s supporters did not hide their amazement at their former forward’s exploits:

And they say Luke De Jong didn’t learn anything from playing with Shola Ameobi during his time at Newcastle… #EuropaLeagueFinal

Romelu Lukaku refuses to collect runners-up medal as cruel own goal costs Inter in Europa League final vs Sevilla

ROMELU LUKAKU refused to collect his runners-up medal as his stunning debut season for Inter ended in late heartbreak in the Europa League final.
The striker scored the unluckiest of own goals as Sevilla ran out 3-2 winners in a thrilling game.

The former Manchester United man – who gave Inter the lead with a penalty after just five minutes – accidentally diverted into his own net after an audacious bicycle kick by Diego Carlos to hand the La Liga side their winner.
Nothing can be taken away from Carlos’ miraculous acrobatics but his eye-catching effort was going wide.
Lukaku instinctively stuck a foot out to block it, only to guide the ball into the net, giving Sevilla the lead with just 15 minutes to play.
The final in Cologne could not have started better for the Belgian, who continued his red hot form early on.

The striker made no mistake to coolly tuck away from 12 yards and get Antonio Conte’s men rolling – reaching some personal milestones in the process.
That was Lukaku’s 34th goal of his first season with Inter, a feat only matched by Brazilian maestro Ronaldo in 1998.
It meant the Belgian had scored in a record ELEVEN successive Europa League games.
While he also became the first player to score in six consecutive knockout stage matches in major European competition since Cristiano Ronaldo between 2012 and 2013.

Lukaku’s joy was short-lived, as Sevilla hit back seven minutes later after former Newcastle flop Luuk de Jong brilliant nodded home from inside the box.
And the Premier League flop was again on the scoreboard following another brilliant header to give Sevilla the lead.

The Dutchman expertly looped the ball over Samir Handanovic after a deep cross from a free-kick.
But the first-half drama did not stop there, as yet another headed goal brought the teams level once more.
Diego Godin’s effort from a set-piece 10 minutes from half-time levelled up the match.
With it all to play for both teams pushed for a winner – but a moment of misfortune saw Lukaku deflect Carlos’ spectacular effort beyond a helpless Handanovic.

Sevilla 3 Inter 2: Lukaku scores costly own goal to hand Spaniards SIXTH Europa League crown in 16 years in thriller

ROMELU LUKAKU went from hero to zero as his late own goal gifted Europa League Kings Sevilla their sixth title.

In a final for the ages, the Spaniards eventually prevailed in the competition they have made their own.
The ex-Manchester United man’s night started perfectly, opening the scoring with a penalty to notch his 34th of the season – equalling the club record set by the Brazilian Ronaldo 22-years ago.
But after a stunning debut season at Inter, luck dealt him a cruel blow just as it mattered.
Luuk de Jong, who could not buy a goal in 12 games on loan at Newcastle in 2014, responded to Lukaku’s spot-kick with a stunning headed brace.

And Diego Godin equalised with his own header to cap off a stunning opening half.
But Lukaku, 27, had the last word for all the wrong reasons to leave Antonio Conte’s side crestfallen.
The first-half in Cologne was breathless stuff, making a mockery of those predicting a cagey final dominated by the defences.
Inter were given a penalty inside three minutes after Diego Carlos hauled down Lukaku on the break.

The striker was too quick and powerful for Carlos, who also gave away penalties in the quarters and semis and was lucky not to be shown a red.
And Lukaku made the hapless defender pay, slotting it to Yassine Bounou’s right after a stuttered run-up – making it 11 consecutive Europa League games he has scored in.
But if Conte’s side expected a stroll in the park, they were brought crashing back down to earth on 13 minutes by Newcastle flop De Jong.

After a crisp build-up down the right, Jesus Navas – once of the Manchester City parish – picked out the flying Dutchman’s near-post run.
And De Jong, who got the nod after getting the winning goal against the Red Devils in the semi from the bench, crept in front of Godin to nod past Samir Handanovic.
But he was far from done – putting the Spaniards ahead after 34 minutes with a spectacular header.
Ever Banega put a central free-kick in, and this time the Magpies flop, 29, spun around to the back post to meet it brilliantly and powerfully guide it over the despairing Slovenian keeper.
The game refused to slow down though, and Inter levelled up two minutes later via veteran defender Godin – with another header.

Marcelo Brozovic whipped it in from the right, and the Uruguayan rose above the rest to glance home from five-yards.
After one of the most exciting halves imaginable, the pace eventually slowed.
Diego Carlos, tormented by Lukaku before the break, partially redeemed himself with a great block to prevent Roberto Gagliardini.
And on 65 minutes, Lukaku squandered a golden chance to put the Italians ahead after being put through one-on-one.

    20

But Inter Milan, and Lukaku, werere left stunned late onCredit: Reuters
The Belgian had plenty of time to think where to put it, but Bounou was up to task and blocked with his legs.
And he was made to rue it nine minutes later when he diverted Carlos’ bicycle kick into his own net.
The defender’s acrobatic effort was struck well but heading wide before the unlucky striker stuck a leg out to send it past Handanovic.
Conte called for Alexis Sanchez off the bench, and the fellow ex-Manchester United forward was inches away from equalising with his first touch.

After a scramble in the box it fell to the Chilean, but his goalbound toe-poke was desperately cleared off the line by Jules Kounde.
But Inter’s race was run, leaving Julen Lopetegui’s side to party long into the night in Germany.
But in a stunning night of football in Cologne, even if it was without fans, it was the Spaniards celebrating a SIXTH Europa League title.
