Paul Pogba to hand Man Utd major injury boost as Solskjaer reveals FIVE stars could return against AC Milan

PAUL POGBA could be one of five Manchester United stars to return for Thursday’s crunch Europa League clash with AC Milan.
The Frenchman, 27, hasn’t featured since picking up a thigh injury in the 3-3 draw with Everton on February 6.

United head to the San Siro on Thursday needing to score after Simon Kjær salvaged a last-gasp equaliser for the Italian giants at Old Trafford.
Pogba’s return will certainly improve their chances, while Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani are also in contention to bolster the forward line.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also confirmed David de Gea, who has spent the last two weeks in quarantine, and Donny van de Beek are also pushing for starts.
Ex-Ajax ace Van de Beek has missed the last seven games with a muscular injury.

Solskjaer said: “Injury-wise I hope we have four or five players back for that game [against Milan], very likely Edinson and Anthony are fit, Donny as well.
“Paul might make the trip and David is back from isolation, that’s more numbers, today we had two goalkeepers on the bench so we need them back.”
Their returns from injury comes at a crucial time in United’s season with an FA Cup quarter-final with Leicester three days after facing AC.
After all-but cementing their top four hopes with a 1-0 win over West Ham, Solskjaer added: “This has been a big period for us.

“The last few league games were big games right near the top of the league and we are starting to build momentum.
“We opened the gap to West Ham which was important for us, and now we want to improve on last season by getting to finals.
“It looked like everyone wanted to show what they could do tonight. Maybe we were a bit too eager with our finishing but afterwards it was spot on.
“They are always going to make it hard for you. We could have been more comfortable towards the end. We like to make it hard for ourselves!”

Mikel Arteta slams Arsenal stars and warns them to STOP taking unnecessary risks after another howler in Olympiacos win

MIKEL ARTETA has warned his players to stop taking unnecessary risks.
The Spaniard watched Arsenal put one foot into the Europa League quarter-finals with an impressive 3-1 win at Olympiacos.

But they once again conceded thanks to a defensive cock-up while attempting to play out from the back.
Arteta warned: “The goals and chances we have conceded are coming from ourselves.
“It’s my responsibility. I make them play the way we want to play. It’s just understanding the risk and rewards and when to play.
“We have to get better at that, because if not, it creates tension and insecurity and creates belief in the opponent. It’s unnecessary.

“If the rewards are not bigger, then we should not take the risk.
“We are really pleased with the result, with the goals we score and the way we played in big moments in the game.
“But as well we have to be very clear and honest with ourselves that we gave three goals to the opponent, they took one.”
The error came when sub Dani Ceballos lost possession after a careless pass from goalkeeper Bernd Leno, allowing Youssef El Arabi to chalk off Martin Odegaard’s screamer.

It followed similar gaffes against Benfica in the last round as well as the mistake Granit Xhaka made which led to Chris Wood’s equaliser at Burnley on Saturday.
Arsenal, who have now failed to keep a clean sheet in their last nine in all competitions, did come storming back thanks to Gabriel’s header and Mohamed Elneny’s scorcher.
Odegaard, who netted his first for the club, added: “When one player makes a mistake, you have to strike back as a team and that’s what we did.”

    REACTION FROM MOURINHO
The Spurs boss told BT Sport:
“If before the game you asked me is 2-0 a good result I would say yes, 2-0 at home is always a good result, to win with a clean sheet and two goals is a good result but, it’s only a good result if we do the job there.
“They’re a difficult team, at home they will feel much more comfortable to have a go, they have nothing to lose so its going to be a difficult match for us.
(On Kane) “He is doing everything, he’s doing the striker’s job of scoring goals, he creating space and linking play, he’s doing extra work which not many strikers do.
“This was a very important match, we want to qualify for the quarters.”

    REACTION FROM ZORAN MAMIC
“Congratulations to Tottenham. They took the chances. Harry Kane showed us once again what a master of football he is.
“We played a solid game but we could have done better in attack. Spurs played an aggressive game and won the ball back to attack.
“Tottenham attacking have really good players. They are really fast. The wingers and midfielders want the ball all the time.
“Kane showed us what a master he is. The first one was an easy one but the second one he calmed the situation and his shot was impossible to defend.”

    THAT’S ALL FROM PIRAEUS
Arsenal made a giant leap towards the Europa League quarter-finals after beating Olympiacos 3-1 at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.
The Gunners opened the scoring after 34 minutes thanks to Martin Odegaard’s screamer.
The hosts came close to an equaliser shortly before half-time when David Luiz gifted the ball to Giorgos Masouras inside the box but the winger sent it wide.
Olympiacos scored an equaliser on 58 minutes when Dani Ceballos was dispossessed at the back by Youssef El Arabi, who beat Bernd Leno with a beautiful finish.
But Arsenal fought back and regained the lead in the 79th minute thanks to a towering header by Gabriel, who picked up a fast corner-kick by Willian.
Olympiacos protested for a foul on Yann M’Vila as the centre-back got him with an elbow to the ear so heavily that the midfielder needed medical attention.
Arsenal sealed the win, and probably qualification, with a second screamer, this time from Mohamed Elneny, five minutes before full-time.
That’s all from us, have a beautiful night!

    MARTINS REACTS
Olympiacos manager Pedro Martins insists nothing is finished and claims the referee should have taken a closer look on Arsenal’s second goal as he hinted that Gabriel had fouled Yann M’Vila when he jumped for the header.
Martins said: “There was one decision from the referee that was influenced by the opponent’s reaction.
“The decisions were in favour of the supposed bigger team. He should have analysed it better, but now we have to put it behind and think about our next game.
“As far as we’re concerned, nothing is finished. Things are tough but we’re going to London to do the best we can, to go after our full potential.
“In our minds, nothing’s over even though things are difficult.”

    ARTETA REACTS
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta claims his team showed a lot of character in the way they responded to Olympiacos’ equaliser.
Arteta added that Thomas Partey came off because of a tactical decision as the player is fit enough to compete in the north London derby against Tottenham.
The Arsenal boss said: “I think it shows the spirit in the team and the way we back each other.
“One player makes a mistake and then we react. That’s what it’s about is being a team. When one player makes a mistake you have to strike back as a team and we did that today.
“No, it was a tactical decision [subbing Partey].”

    HOW DO ARSENAL GO THROUGH?
Arsenal made a decisive step forward in their bid to qualify for the Europa League quarter-finals thanks to their 3-1 win in Greece.
The Gunners have scored three away goals against Olympiacos, who are facing an uphill road ahead of the return fixture.
The reigning Greek champions will have to score at least three times to hope for qualification.
If Arsenal hit the target then the Piraeus outfit is still going to need to beat Bernd Leno three times to force extra-time.
Last year’s qualification was stunning, but if Olympiacos are to make it through then they are going to need to put together a much bigger effort

    GETTY IMAGES

    SCORE
Arsenal’s season at home hasn’t gone the way they hoped it would.
But the Gunners have been rather dominant in Europe.
The Europa League is basically the north Londoners’ last resort to make it back to the Champions League and no one can say they can’t win it!

    WILL-ING AND ABLE
Willian has yet to score ever since joining Arsenal from Chelsea in the summer.
But that doesn’t mean the star winger hasn’t been crucial for the Gunners.
The Brazil international has provided more assists that any other Arsenal player across all competitions.

    STATS
Arsenal controlled 59 per cent of possession throughout the match.
The Gunners completed a total of 18 shots, with a eight going on target.
Olympiacos only got six with a mere two of them going on target.

The hosts got back in the tie when Dani Ceballos was dispossed by Youssef El Arabi at the back and the star striker beat Bernd Leno on 58 minutes.
El Arabi’s equaliser raised the Greek giants’ hopes but a towering header by Gabriel from a Willian corner-kick put Arsenal back in front after 79 minutes.
Olympiacos complained for a foul on M’Vila, who needed medical attention afterwards due to the defender elbowing his ear.
