Slavia Prague’s Kudela banned for Arsenal clash while Uefa investigate claims he racially abused Rangers star Kamara

SLAVIA PRAGUE star Ondrej Kudela will miss the Europa League clash with Arsenal after Uefa provisionally suspended him pending their investigation into claims of racism against Rangers star Glen Kamara. The European governing body say they have opened proceedings against Kudela in relation to a potential violation of Article 14 (1) and/or 15 (1) of their disciplinary regulations.
Kudela will miss Slavia Prague’s clash with Arsenal after he was provisionally suspended by Uefa pending their investigation into claims of racism against Rangers star Glen Kamara
Meanwhile, Kamara is being investigated for a potential violation of Article 15 (1).
The action follows an investigation into the matter by a Uefa-appointed Spanish lawyer into the events following the Europa League last-16 tie.
Kamara claims he was racially abused by Kudela who denies the charge.
Furthermore, Kudela claims he was assaulted by the Rangers midfielder in the tunnel after the match.
A Slavia spokesperson was reported on Tuesday saying their player would miss the meeting with Arsenal this week due to a medical issue arising from the recent Czech Republic meeting with Wales.
But Kudela will now be suspended for the first-leg tie.
A Uefa statement read: “In accordance with Article 49 DR, the CEDB today decided to provisionally suspend Mr Ondrej Kudela for the next (1) UEFA club competition match.”
Under Uefa rules, Kudela faces a minimum TEN-game ban if the racism charge is proven.

Kamara could miss up to five European matches if he is guilty of assault, which the Rangers man emphatically denies.
Police Scotland are also investigating both charges – although no arrests have been made.
Arsenal are due to host Slavia Prague in the first-leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash on Thursday night with kick-off 8pm.
The second-leg in Czech Republic will be played a week later.

Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea set to be allowed travelling fans at Champions and Europa League final if they reach it

UEFA chiefs are ready to let travelling fans into the Champions League and Europa League finals. And that is potentially great news for supporters of the five English teams left in Europe.

A meeting of Uefa’s ruling executive committee formally lifted the 30 per cent capacity cap on fans that was put in place in October, allowing local authorities the right to set stadium limits for the rest of this season.
Away fans remain banned for the remaining games in the last eight and semi-final stages of both competitions, which resume next week.
But Uefa will review the measures ahead of the two finals, due to be played in Gdansk and Istanbul at the end of May.
And that opens up the prospect of Chelsea, Liverpool or Manchester City fans being allowed to travel to Turkey – if the UK Government assents.
While Arsenal and Manchester United supporters could be heading to Poland if their side makes the Europa League final.
Next month will see the Gunners face Slavia Prague in the quarter-final while United take on LaLiga outfit Granada.
In the Champions League, Liverpool have the small matter of Real Madrid to contend with if they hope to repeat their 2005 visit to Istanbul while City face Erling Haaland’s Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea play Porto.
The decision came as Uefa also voted to allow five substitutes per team at Euro 2020.

But the last-minute row between Uefa and the European Club Association over commercial and broadcasting rights for the revamped club competitions from 2024 meant the committee could only “unanimously” agree to hold another meeting on the new-look Champions League on April 19.
Meanwhile, the four home nations were denied the chance to qualify for next year’s women’s Under-20 World Cup.
The highest-ranked quartet of Spain, France, Germany and Holland were given automatic passes after the European U19 tournament, due to be played in Georgia, was postponed because of the pandemic.

Slavia Prague chief blasts Rangers and Robertson as he accuses Scottish giants of trying to ‘cover up aggressive play’

SLAVIA PRAGUE have blasted Rangers and Stewart Robertson as they demanded an end to ‘escalating biased pressure’ on Uefa and police.European football bosses and Police Scotland have launched their own investigations into allegations Light Blues star Glen Kamara was racially abused by Slavia’s Ondrej Kudela.

The Czech club have denied the claim and have alleged that the Rangers ace assaulted Kudela after the sides’ Europa League clash earlier this month.
They have also accused them of trying to ‘cover up their own aggressive play’.
Both Uefa and the police are also investigating that allegation.
Now though, Slavia Prague have released a statement on their website in which club chief Jaroslav Tvrdik has demanded an end to “biased pressure” on the probes.
The chairman also claimed players and clubs from central and eastern Europe were being subjected to xenophobic prejudice.

While he also made an allegation that security cameras were covered when Kamara allagedly assaulted Kudela.
The statement read: “Slavia demands the halt of escalating biased pressure on Uefa and police officials regarding the investigated incidents reported during 2020/21 Uefa Europa League Round of 16 second leg match between Rangers FC and SK Slavia Praha.
“President of football club SK Slavia Praha, Jaroslav Tvrdík, demands the immediate halt of escalating biased pressure by Rangers’ club representatives (most recently a public statement of the club’s chief, Mr Stewart Robertson, made on 30 March 2021) and other public figures in Scotland on Uefa and police officials regarding the investigated incidents reported during 2020/21 Uefa Europa League Round of 16 second leg match between Rangers FC and SK Slavia Praha on 18 March 2021.
“Mr Tvrdík states: ‘The pending investigations conducted by the officials of UEFA and the local Police have made no findings so far.

TIME TO ACT Robertson backs Kamara over racism claim and calls for action

“‘However, our player Ondřej Kúdela has already been the subject of a public ‘conviction’ without any evidence whatsoever; he is a victim of prejudice and a presumption of guilt.
“‘The Uefa Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector is still conducting an investigation regarding the incidents in question and has been granted additional time until 5 April 2021 to deliver his report.
“‘We believe in an evidence and law-based process whereby Ondřej and our club both provide necessary cooperation to the respective authorities.
“‘We have presented evidence which, in our view, cleanses Ondřej of an unjustified accusation of racism’.

“Mr Tvrdík adds that unfortunately xenophobic prejudice is evidently rising on the part of some stakeholders and some British media against clubs and players and, in general, against people from Central and Eastern Europe.
“’The sad side of the whole matter is that Rangers are trying to cover up overtly aggressive play by their team.
“‘During the match itself, our goalkeeper Ondřej Kolář was gravely injured and sustained a frontal sinus fracture while our doctor was prevented to examine him on site even dozens of minutes after the final whistle.
“‘Not to mention that there were several other serious fouls against our players and a number of those have remained unpunished.
“‘Such behaviour does not belong in the prestigious UEFA Europa League’.
“Mr Tvrdík also stresses that Mr Kamara’s assault of Ondřej Kúdela after the match is likewise included in the subject-matter of the pending investigations despite Rangers being practically silent about this incident.
“In this regard, he mentions: ‘If someone is wondering what happened, the Rangers delegation claimed a wish to speak to Ondřej in order to clarify the alleged racial insult.
“‘The conversation was about to take place in the tunnel under the patronage and in the presence of the Uefa match delegation and the coaches of both teams.

“‘However, the cameras covering the meeting place were purposely covered and then Mr Kamara, with no warning and obviously having zero intention to have the suggested conversation, roughly assaulted Ondřej by punching him to the face.
“‘After trying to continue fighting he fled into the dressing room followed by Mr Gerrard without a single word of apology. It is a disgraceful incident’.
“Last but not least, Mr Tvrdík reminds the club’s firm commitment to fight racism, xenophobia and all forms of hatred as one of the pillars of Slavia football policy.
“He emphasises: ‘Any form of racial discrimination is contrary to our values and principles and we shall never tolerate such conduct.
“‘We believe that all people must be free and equal with their rights and dignity.
“‘Slavia strictly abides by the policy against racism as detailed by the organization FARE” (Football Against Racism in Europe)’.
“In light of the foregoing, the club and the player Kúdela await the results of a proper and independent investigation of both incidents.
“We call for calm until then.”

Europa League-type contest for women’s game among new ideas floated by European club chiefs

OFFICIALS representing the biggest football teams in Europe are mulling over proposals for a Europa League-style tournament for the women’s game. The idea for the competition and a women’s Club World Cup are among a raft of exciting new suggestions being considered by the European Club Association.

Bigwigs from the body backed by Uefa and representing 232 clubs included the proposals in their ‘Be a Changemaker’ strategy launched today.
The plan aims to provide opportunities to boost revenue for the women’s game and support the creation of new women’s football clubs.
Claire Bloomfield, the ECA’s head of women’s football said: “We have a responsibility to explore all opportunities that can help grow the competition landscape, both on a European level with a second-tier competition and then on a much more global scale, with a possible Club World Cup.”
The Women’s Champions League is currently the only club contest in the sport involving sides from across Europe.
From next term, up to three English sides will be able to compete in the Champions League in a new structure to include a group stage and a round of 16 for the first time.
ECA chief Charlie Marshall suggests a women’s Club World Cup may soon be established as part of plans to support the international growth of the game.
In men’s football, the Club World Cup has been going since the year 2000, with winners of the biggest competitions from different continents going head-to-head.
German giants Bayern Munich are the current defending champions after beating Mexican outfit Tigres in February.
ECA chief Marshall said: “The prospect of a Club World Cup, fairly soon in the women’s game, assuming that calendars can be resolved, is a really exciting one and I know FIFA is very keen on it as well
“In the women’s game, there is much more potential, much more quickly, to develop global competitive balance.”

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes believes the ECA’s new plans could help level the playing field between women’s football and the men’s game.
Hayes, whose team are due to play Wolfsburg said: “Our success on the pitch can be helped by winning off the pitch and ECA’s bold new plans can drive an even higher performance culture throughout the women’s game.
“The standards in elite women’s football should not be any different from the men’s and this strategy has the potential to start closing the gap.”

Scarlett, 17, has made three senior appearances for TottenhamCredit: AFP
Spurs released the news on their official website earlier today, writing: “We are delighted to announce that Dane Scarlett’s first professional contract with the club has now been formalised.”
The forward was eligible for a professional deal after turning 17 on March 24.
The two-year contract was automatically triggered by his recent birthday and Tottenham will be hoping he signs a longer deal soon.
Scarlett made his professional debut in November during a Europa League game with Ludogorets.
At the age of 16 years and 247 days, he became the youngest player in Tottenham’s history to make a senior appearance.
He has also made his Premier League debut – appearing in their 2-0 win against West Bromwich Albion last month.

“I believe next season he will be a first-team squad player because he has a lot of talent.”

Police probe after claims Rangers star Kamara was racially abused by Slavia Prague ace during Europa League tie

POLICE have launched an investigation into allegations Rangers star Glen Kamara was racially abused during a Europa League tie.Kamara alleged Czech defender Ondrej Kudela subjected him to the abuse during his side’s tie with Slavia Prague last week.

Uefa have since launched an investigation over alleged incidents both during and after the heated game at Ibrox.
And Kamara has since called on European football chiefs to take a zero-tolerance approach to racism.
Police Scotland have now begun their own investigation into the allegations against Kudela.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are investigating incidents of alleged racial abuse and a reported assault following the match between Rangers and Slavia Prague at Ibrox on Thursday, 18 March, 2021.
“Officers are liaising with both clubs and enquiries are continuing.”

Kamara’s lawyer, Aamer Anwar, revealed the probe was underway in a statement to SunSport on Monday as he responded to Slavia Prague boss Jindrich Trpisovsky’s criticism of both Rangers and the Finnish international.
And he called on Kudela to assist police with their investigation when his side return to the UK next month to face off against Arsenal.
Anwar said: “The statement issued by Slavia Prague is beneath contempt and compounds their repeated failure to condemn the racist abuse of Glen Kamara by one of their own players, as well as fans.
“This statement by Slavia Prague’s manager smacks of desperation and it might have helped their cause had one of Slavia Prague’s players not been caught on an audio-recording confirming that Kudela had called Glen a ‘monkey’.
“I spoke to Police Scotland earlier today and a full criminal investigation is now underway into the actions of Kudela, so I very much hope that when he returns to the UK to play Arsenal on the 8th April, he is ready to assist Police Scotland with their inquiries.
“As for Uefa it really is ‘time up’ for their ‘anti-racism tokenism’.
“On this occasion there is corroborated evidence for the grotesque abuse that took place on the international stage.
“What black players need is a clear robust message to be sent out to the footballing world that Uefa are genuine about eradicating the scourge of racism.”
Slavia’s Kudela has insisted he’s no racist and claimed he only covered his mouth because he always does that when he speaks on the pitch.
While team-mate Premysl Kovar has denied confirming the abuse aimed at Kamara in an audio clip and insisted the recording was to describe the situation at Ibrox.
He said: “I didn’t hear that from Ondrej personally and later on he denied it completely and I believe him. Those words are just false accusations on the part of the player.
“So my recording was only to describe the incredible situation.”

Meanwhile, Slavia manager Trpisovsky alleged that Kamara assaulted Kudela after last week’s game.
And Police Scotland confirmed that they are investigating the assault claim after receiving a complaint from the Czech club.
A spokesperson said: “We have received a report of an assault following the match between Rangers and Slavia Prague at Ibrox on Thursday, 18 March, 2021.
“Officers are liaising with both teams and an investigation is underway.”

Man Utd will SACK Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if he fails to win Europa League this season after FA Cup KO, claims Murphy

MANCHESTER UNITED will sack Ole Gunnar Solskjaer if he does not win them the Europa League, according to former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy. The Red Devils were dumped out of the FA Cup by Leicester at the weekend, making Europe the last realistic avenue for a trophy.

And Murphy feels Man Utd are likely to move the Norwegian on if he cannot win them the Europa League.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “They can’t be blaming tiredness for a loss at Leicester in the FA Cup and their squad not being strong enough.
“United competing in the Europa League is not good enough, first and foremost, the fans know that, the club know that and Ole knows that.
“Not progressing in the Champions League was a massive, massive blow for them. Yes, they’re going to get in the top four… but so they damn should!
“He’s in a position for me where the Europa League, for me, has become monumental for him and the club.
“I like him and I’m not one who wants to see managers sacked and I do think they’ve made some strides forward, but Manchester United have to be doing better.
“If they don’t win the Europa League and only finish in the top four then I think they’ll make a change.”
