    Are Rangers final-bound?
As routes to the final of a major European competition go, Rangers have done pretty well today, avoiding Barcelona and West Ham until the finale.
They will stand a good chance of beating Sporting Braga over two legs as they have been in very good form, but may struggle against semi final opposition should they make it there.
It will be Atalanta or RB Leipzig in the semis, both of whom are teams with experience in the Champions League in recent years, and have a host of top European players…

    West Ham vs Barca Semi-Final.
We could be looking forward to a West Ham vs Barcelona Semi-Final in this years rendition of the Europa League.
That is if The Irons can get past Olympique Lyonnais, who will prove to be tough opposition for the Premier League side.
Barcelona will cruise past Eintracht Frankfurt on paper, but did struggle against Galatasaray, and are not the side that they once were with Lionel Messi and co.
This would be a cracking tie if both teams can get through, and it is the one that all the neutrals want to see.
Just imagine if Moyes’ boys upset the Catalan giants? Scenes.
    Time to reflect
Stay with us for a reflection on the Europa League draw, as well as dates for the Quarter and Semi-Final.

    Eintracht Frankfurt
    FC Barcelona

    Semi Final 1
Leipzig or Atalanta vs Sporting Braga or Rangers
    Sporting Braga vs Rangers
The last tie is Braga vs Rangers, if Morelos and Tavernier are on form this could be a very tasty tie that the Scots will be hoping to win.
    West Ham vs Olympique Lyonnnais
West Ham will feel confident in taking the win here, but will have to stop top scorer Karl Toko-Ekambi to do so.
    Eintracht Frankfurt vs FC Barcelona
Barca will be favourites here, despite struggling against Turkish opposition last time out. No Barca vs West Ham just yet.
    RB Leipzig vs Atalanta
    A tasty tie out first.

The Golden Boot race is on…
Of the players remaining in the competition, Lyon’s Karl Toko-Ekambi is currently leading the race for the golden boot on six goals, followed by Frankfurt’s Daichi Kamada and Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos on four.
The Lyon hitman was also the second highest scorer at this years AFCON, so he is definitely a man with his shooting boots on in 2022.

West Ham fans will be feeling confident after beating ‘Europa League specialists’ Sevilla in the last round, thanks to a fitting Andriy Yarmolenko winner in additional time.
Rangers lost their second leg tie to Red Star Belgrade yesterday, but will definitely prove a tough test for whoever they face in the Quarter-Final.

    Good news for Chelsea
Chelsea’s tie with Atletico Madrid will be reversed, as Atletico and Real Madrid cannot both play at home in the first tie.
This means that the game will be played in The Bernabeu for the first leg, with the second leg being played at Stamford Bridge.
This is great news for fans of The Blues, as it means they are more likely to have fans in attendance after new ownership has been decided.
Another good bit of news for Chelsea fans is that Los Blancos have NEVER beaten Chelsea in an official game in their history…
    Quarter Final draw dates
The first leg of Quarter-Finals will take place on April 6th and 7th.
The second leg of Quarter-Final games will be on April 13th and 14th.

    Road to the final…
Manchester City or Atletico Madrid will face Chelsea or Real Madrid in the first Semi Final.
    Benfica vs Liverpool
Liverpool have a favourable draw here against Benfica, you would expect them to cruise through to the Semi-Finals, but the Portuguese side may surprise The Reds.
    Villarreal vs Bayern Munich
Robert Lewandowski will be looking to climb the all-time scoring charts in a tie where Bayern will definitely be favourites.

Tomas Soucek drew West Ham level on aggregate with a first half header.
The game was taken to extra-time, where super sub Yarmolenko popped up with another crucial goal for his team.
Yarmolenko followed up team-mate Pablo Fornals’ shot and pounced on Sevilla keeper Yassine Bounou’s parry to make the game 2-1 on aggregate.
But whilst his team-mates were soaking up the electric atmosphere in East London, Yarmolenko spotted a Ukraine flag in the crowd.

And the international superstar gave the fan holding the colours of his country his match-winning shirt.
West Ham vice captain Declan Rice revealed the winger was emotional in the changing rooms after Thursday’s historic win.
Rice said: “Yarmolenko was a little bit emotional away from the lads afterwards.
“For what he’s been through to perform like this – his desire, the way he chased players and scored.

MARK NOBLE couldn’t hide his emotions as West Ham reached the Europa League quarter-finals. The Hammers club captain had tears in his eyes after Andriy Yarmolenko’s emotional extra-time winner saw off six-time winners Sevilla.
“The master and the apprentice right there!”Mark Noble with tears in his eyes, giving Declan Rice a big hug after reaching the #UEL quarter-finals…You’re not dreaming, West Ham fans! pic.twitter.com/c7IEfdOo7W— Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) March 17, 2022

David Moyes and Co successfully overturned a 1-0 deficit from last week’s first leg in Spain to progress 2-1 on aggregate.
A first-half header from Tomas Soucek, followed by Ukrainian international Yarmolenko’s strike, fired the Hammers into the last eight.
And the full time scenes were all too much for 34-year-old West Ham legend Noble to take as he took it all in at an electric London Stadium.
Celebrating alongside Declan Rice on the pitch, Noble visibly choked up as Neil Diamond’s ‘Sweet Caroline’ belted out over the speakers.

It’s easy to understand why, with Thursday night’s game his 544th in Claret and Blue and Noble also set to hang up his boots at the end of the current season.
But before he bids a fond farewell to the club, he helped the Hammers into their first quarter-final in a major European competition since 1981.
Things could yet get sweeter for Noble.
The Europa League final is scheduled for May 18 at Sevilla’s Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, four days before the final day of the Premier League season.

WEST HAM have ended Sevilla’s incredible Europa League streak.Tomas Soucek’s header just before half time sent the tie into extra time.
And Andriy Yarmolenko fired home from close range to put the Hammers into the last eight.
    That’s all from East London
So, West Ham are through to the quarter finals after making history against serial winners of this competition, Sevilla.
The script was written, and Yarmolenko signed his name in extra time to send the West Ham fans into raptures.
The Spanish side weren’t good enough on the night, and were undone by a brilliantly energetic Hammers side.
It’s Yarmolenko’s night in East London, and it’s goodnight from me here. Thanks for reading.

    The final eight

The Europa League quarter finals draw will take place this Friday at 12:30.
Declan Rice said he’d take anyone. But who do you want, West Ham fans?
‘Best night I’ve had at West Ham’ – Declan Rice
Declan Rice was overcome with joy speaking to BT, here’s what he had to say:
It was so, so special today. This club, the stadium, the fans, the players, we deserve these big European nights. We stepped up tonight. We knew with our fans and the quality we had on the pitch tonight we could do it. Probably the best night I’ve had at West Ham. I’ll take anyone. There’s no one to fear. Sevilla were probably the favourites. When the draw happened people thought we’d get knocked out, and we’ve knocked them out.Declan Rice, West Ham midfielder
    Antonio by numbers
West Ham’s number nine was electric this evening, running the Sevilla defence all over the place. Here are his stats:

    West Ham make history
The first English team in history to beat Sevilla!

    West Ham 2-0 Sevilla
    112, Wow, simply wow.
And just like that, history is written.
Ukranian international, Yarmolenko, taps home from close range, and the script is complete.
Fornals lets fly from range, and his shot is parried by Bono into Yarmolenko who slides it in from 5 yards.
A truly incredible moment, thoroughly deserved by West Ham.

GOAL! – West Ham 2-0 Sevilla
    Yarmolenko scores!
It was written in the stars.
    West Ham 1-0 Sevilla
109, Munir has the chance to find Rafa Mir, but decides to turn back and play it in field. A strange decision which makes you feel Sevilla really are playing for penalties.
Antonio gets up the other end and has the chance to play through formals 1 on 1 with the keeper. But he overhits the pass and it runs through for Bono. It was a tired pass.
Gudelj is now down with cramp, and Antonio offers his help to stretch him out. Very kind considering he’s run round the centre back for the last 110 minutes.

    West Ham 1-0 Sevilla
106, The ball falls to rice on the edge of the area and he strikes right through it, but it spins out way over the goal. You’d expect better from him.
Another chance goes begging for the Hammers.

    West Ham 1-0 Sevilla
103, Ben Johnson crosses to the backlist where Antonio tries to keep it alive, but Sevilla get it away.
Johnson then tries again, it comes out to Fornals who fluffs the volley.
Antonio then tries his luck against Gudelj, but runs the ball out of play.
West Ham 1-0 Sevilla – Sevilla change
101, Martial is off for attacking midfielder, Luismi.
    West Ham 1-0 Sevilla
98, Soucek heads it into the side netting!
The corner is swung in by Cresswell, and Dawson attacks it. But it eventually falls to Soucek at the back post who heads it into the side netting.
The crowd go crazy, thinking he’s scored, but he is just unable to squeeze it in.

    West Ham 1-0 Sevilla
96, Delaney barges Antonio off the ball in what can only be frustration, and gives away a silly foul.
Sevilla get it up the other end with Rafa Mir, but Lanzini gets back in the nick of time showing great pace and desire to win it back for the Hammers.

West Ham 2 Sevilla 0 (agg 2-1): Yarmolenko scores emotional extra-time winner as Hammers reach Europa League quarters

UKRAINIAN international Andriy Yarmolenko netted an emotional extra-time goal to seal a stunning Europa League last-sixteen win against Sevilla. The Hammers dumped the six-time winners of the competition out after a 2-0 win at an electric London Stadium.

Yarmolenko popped up in the right place at the right time to stroke into the back of the net after Pablo Fornals’ long-range effort was saved.
From the very start you had the sense that one of the biggest games in West Ham’s history was always going to need more than 90 minutes.
Not that any Hammers fan were complaining after Tomas Soucek’s 39th minute aggregate-levelling header – such was the sheer intensity and emphatic nature of this game.
Heading into extra-time, a first major European quarter final in 41 years was still alive.

Patrick’s Day a huge hit but attention turns to Gold Cup on Friday
And never has a Europa League tie – often dubbed the second-tier competition amongst Europe’s elite – been so captivating.
David Moyes’ side were the instigators in that regard.
Never have the six-time champions Sevilla found it so tough against English opposition – engulfed by an atmosphere charged with nerves and expectancy.
Super Saturday at the London 2012 Olympics will always claim to have the best moment seen in this arena – three gold medals in a pulsating 44 minutes for Team GB.

But the narrative was set in the days leading up to this one before seeping into the ground via the stadium announcer: the biggest football match in the history of the London Stadium.
The London Stadium has been called many things since West Ham set up camp here back in 2016 – soulless, lifeless, perhaps too big and too ambitious for the club trying to fill it.
Yet none of that was true in the presence of pre-match scenes rarely witnessed around these parts – not since Moyes embarked with the Hammers on this European roadshow.
Tonight, it had the lot. The noise: deafening. The lights: mesmeric. The DJ, borrowed from Wembley after his antics at Euro 2020: contagious.
Both teams emerged from the tunnel to a cacophony of madness from the stands.
The club promised there would not be an empty seat in this 60,000 seater arena, and the fans delivered.
Now it was time for the players to do the same. The first leg was defined by missed chances and spurned opportunities, and the second leg was going down that route early on.
Manuel Lanzini’s chip over the Sevilla backline allowed Fornals to let it drop over his shoulder but his volley was well blocked by Nemanja Gudelj.

Sevilla’s returning midfield veterans of Ivan Rakitic and Thomas Delaney helped stem the tide and briefly dampen an exuberant crowd with some excellent ball-keeping.
Anothony Martial – starting from the off this time – played in Ludwig Augustinsson down the left and his cut-back found Youssef En-Nesyri primed to shoot.
The effort was fizzing, but Alphonse Areola matched it with a stunning reflex save.
The Hammers survived and almost hit back thanks to a brilliant deft pass by Said Benrahma, only for Michail Antonio to fluff his attempt and Gudelj denied Soucek from a tap-in.
The Czech midfielder would soon be getting his revenge six minutes before half time. Antonio made up for his scuff with a pin-point cross to the far post after jostling for space.
Soucek spotted the mismatch against Augustinsson and looped his header into the side-netting. Cue pandemonium. Cue delirium. Cue madman Moyes bouncing along the touchline.

God knows what the Scot would have done had Soucek added another seconds after the break, stinging the hands of Yassine Bounou from the edge of the box.
Such was the dominance of Moyes’ men – the Euro newbies – that Julen Lopetegui was forced into changes he probably hadn’t foreseen making.
Rakitic – arguably the most influential player on the pitch – was hauled off by after just 56 minutes in an attempt to stop Declan Rice creating from deep.
It made little difference. West Ham were purring, on the cusp of getting that elusive second. Lanzini was denied twice by Bounou in quick succession.
For such an experienced team in these big moments – especially on English soil – the visitors really were rattled.
As the minutes ticked by, there appeared to be an acceptance of extra-time.
The fresh legs of Yarmolenko were brought on in anticipation of this one going the distance.
And it was indeed Yarmolenko who netted the winner deep in extra time to finish off the most perfect of all scripts.
Speaking after the game, skipper Rice said: “It was so special. This club, this stadium, fans and players deserve these big European nights.
“That resilience that boss David Moyes has got in us, the desire we have, it’s topped off the best night I’ve had at West Ham.
