Bodo/Glimt manager claims he has Arsenal sussed out after watching them and thinking ‘what the hell are they doing?’

THE Bodo/Glimt manager has suggested he has Arsenal all worked out – after initially thinking “what the hell are they doing?” when he watched them. Kjetil Knutsen takes the Norweigian side to the Emirates tonight for their Europa League clash as they look to stun the London side.
Kjetil Knutsen has been Bodo/Glimt boss since 2018Credit: Kenny Ramsay
Bodo/Glimt currently top Group A after emerging unbeaten from their first two games.
They’ve also played a game more than others in the group after Arsenal’s match against PSV was postponed following the death of the Queen last month.
Bodo/Glimt will be hoping to extend their advantage – and their boss Knutsen reckons he has the key after analysing the Gunners’ “not very complicated” tactics.
He said: “I started watching Arsenal against Zurich to analyse Zurich, but my concentration and my gaze went towards Arsenal because I was thinking, ‘What the hell are they actually doing?’

“There are a lot of rotations, so you have to pick them apart and see where are the players who are fairly stable in their role and where are the players who rotate a lot.
“It’s just extremely high-level, high-intensity football with extremely high-level individual qualities.
“But when you get to see it over time, it’s not very complicated. They have a number of rotations with the left-back and central midfielder, who has a lot of freedom, but it’s a lot less on their right side.
“They attack with a lot of people, they’re patient and then suddenly they have that burst in the final third.”

The 54-year-old gaffer also says he will avoid falling into the same trap as Arsenal’s previous opponents like Tottenham.
He added: “If we played a man-to-man system we would have a huge challenge to face, but we are at the other end of the scale so that’s probably the least of my worries.
“But they will also leave space in behind them which we will have to exploit. We need to be aggressive in the low block, high intensity in the high press, and we will have to control the ball.
“Tottenham only defended, Zurich only defended – if you do that you won’t stand a chance against them.”
Bodo Glimt earned a credible draw away to PSV on the opening matchday of the Europa League.
They then beat FC Zurich 2-1 to propel themselves to the top of the group. More

Erik ten Hag said that Ronaldo was happy at United but he was asked how a player with his status and ambition can be happy not playing:
He is not happy that he wasn’t playing on Sunday, don’t get me wrong. But that wasn’t the question. The question was what he is like on the training pitch and what his mood is around the team. Cypriots with big challenge ahead
After back-to-back defeats against Sheriff Tiraspol and Real Sociedad, Omonia are at risk of an early European exit.

Coach reflects on what is needed
Erik ten Hag spoke about whether Sunday’s result against Man City was a ‘reality check’ for his side:
No. I know when you are in a process, it will not go only your way. You will have setbacks, and we beat the number one in the league [Arsenal], we beat Liverpool. On Sunday, we had a bad day at the office and we got beat. And in this moment, on that day, City were better. We have to accept that. But what we can’t accept is our performance. That was unacceptable.Erik ten HagMan Utd
    Old foe looks for upset
Omonia Nicosia are managed by ex-Celtic manager Neil Lennon.
Lennon locked horns as a player with Man Utd in the UEFA Champions League during his time at Celtic.
He will be hoping to upset the odds with his new team who have not won a single game against English opposition in four attempts.
Hard one to watch for Ronnie
Cristiano Ronaldo was forced to watch his side’s heavy defeat against neighbours Man City at the weekend.
Erik ten Hag said he left the five time Ballon D’Or winner on the bench out of ‘respect’.
The Portuguese forward wants game time and will be keen to play the full game this evening.
Welcome to Omonia vs Man Utd
Man Utd travel to Cyprus to take on Omonia Nicosia looking to bounce back from their weekend defeat in the Manchester derby.
The Red Devils have taken three points from their opening two games and sit second in Group E, while their Cypriot hosts are rock bottom without a single point to their name.
Omonio lost former Reims midfielder Moreto Cassama after 13 mins against Sociedad and having missed the weekend’s triumph over Doxa, the 24-year-old is a major doubt tonight.
Hector Yuste was another casualty of Omonio’s most recent European game but was fit enough for the bench on the weekend and Lennon otherwise has no fresh concerns to report ahead of this game.
Having come off the bench to make an impact last time out, Roman Bezus will push to displace Fotis Papoulis in the number 10 role.
As for Man Utd, Raphael Varane was forced off with a knock at The Etihad after 40 mins and while the injury is not considered serious, he has not travelled with the squad to Cyprus.
Harry Maguire will also take a little longer to battle back from a hamstring strain, while Donny van de Beek and Aaron Wan Bissaka are also absent, but Martin Dubravka has recovered from a muscular problem.

How Arsenal could line up against Bodo/Glimt in Europa League with Arteta giving first-team stars a rest

ARSENAL resume their Europa League campaign tonight by welcoming Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt to North London.Mikel Arteta’s men haven’t played in Europe since the 2-1 matchday one victory over FC Zurich, after their clash with PSV was postponed last time out.

Kieran Tierney and Eddie Nketiah are both likely to startCredit: Getty
With games coming thick and fast in October, Arteta is set to shuffle his side in a bid to keep everyone fresh.
Speaking ahead of the match, the Spaniard admitted that rotation will be important, saying: “That’s what we have to try and do.
“The best way to do that is how we prepare every single day, keep focused on the task and on everything that we’re doing well, and keep being humble.
“There are a lot of things that we still need to improve and keep that willingness every time to become better every single day and to raise the competition between the members of the squad, because now everyone wants to play the game tomorrow.”

Aaron Ramsdale is set to be rested, with American deputy Matt Turner to come in for his competitive home debut.
Takehiro Tomiyasu is likely to return at right-back, having been ousted in league matches by Ben White – while Cedric Soares has been carrying a knock.
Rob Holding could come in for a rare start at centre-back with William Saliba given the night off – and he may be partnered by either Gabriel or White.
Kieran Tierney can count himself unlucky to have been dropped for Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back and will play with a point to prove.

Albert Sambi Lokonga could start in place of Thomas Partey, with the Ghanaian having only returned from injury against Tottenham on Saturday.
With Mohamed Elneny missing with a thigh issue, Sambi may be partnered by first-team regular Granit Xhaka – with the Swiss likely to take the captain’s armband.
Regular skipper Martin Odegaard will know all about Bodo/Glimt as a Norwegian, but could be given the night off with Fabio Vieira awarded an opportunity to shine in attacking midfield.
Marquinhos’ inclusion on the right wing would afford Bukayo Saka a rare rest – while forgotten man Reiss Nelson could grab an opportunity on the left flank in place of Gabriel Martinelli.
On the homegrown winger, Arteta said: “After the spell that he had last year on loan, we wanted him back to see if there are any changes and there’s a prospect that we can really take to the next level.
“We think the potential is there and we think we’ve seen something in Reiss that is special.
“He’s been a part of our academy system and now he’s going to have an opportunity.

RB Leipzig vs Celtic LIVE REACTION: Silva DOUBLE gives Germans victory despite Jota strike as Celtic remain winless

RB LEIPZIG came out 3-1 victors over Celtic, who remain without a win in this season’s Champions League.Christopher Nkunku saw an early strike disallowed before rounding Joe Hart later in the first-half to see his side go in one goal up.
Jota equalised in the second period, getting onto a pull-back to convert before Dominik Szoboszlai thought he put Leipzig back ahead, just for the goal to be disallowed as an offside player affected Hart’s view.
Andre Silva netted his first of the match just moments later to put his side ahead, capitalising on a mistake from the Celtic goalkeeper before adding his second as the Germans came out 3-1 victors.

RB Leipzig leapfrog Celtic in the group with the Glasgow outfit now sitting at the bottom of the group.
Marco Rose’s side are back in contention to qualify as they find themselves only a point behind Shakhtar Donetsk.

    Clinical finishing at the top
In the UEFA Champions League, you will be punished if you do not take your chances and this is exactly what happened to Celtic this evening.
The scoreline may flatter Leipzig as Ange Postecoglou’s team were in this tie up until the final ten minutes of the game.
Yet again, Celtic pay the price for not taking their chances.

    Hoops struggle on the road
Celtic have now failed to win in Germany in 14 attempts.
It is now five years since The Hoops won an away game in the UEFA Champions League.
Without picking up points away from home, you make any passage out of the group phase near impossible.
    FT: RB Leipzig 3-1 Celtic
The referee brings the game to a close.
It is a long trip back from Germany for the Celtic fans after a disappointing defeat.
The reverse fixture at Celtic Park is now a ‘must win’ game for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
    RB Leipzig 3-1 Celtic
90+4. Since the introduction of VAR it seems we are never going to get a football match that does not have at least five minutes added on.
The ball comes to Forsberg on the edge of the box, he takes one touch and shoots at goal.
His shot goes a few feet wide of the far post.
    RB Leipzig 3-1 Celtic
90+2. Jota is fouled on the halfway line.
Jovanovic looks to play it forward but gifts it to Forsberg.
Leipzig are still looking for more goals here.
    RB Leipzig 3-1 Celtic
    90. We are going to have an additional five minutes added here.
Still not enough time for Celtic to turn this game around you feel.
Never say never, stranger things have happened in football.
    RB Leipzig 3-1 Celtic
    88. Celtic would have thought all their prayers had been answered with Leipzig having their goal disallowed, very harshly.
No sooner had VAR saved the Scottish side, Joe Hart’s misplaced pass restores balance in the universe from a German perspective.
There does not seem enough time left for Celtic to find a way back into this game now.

    RB Leipzig 3-1 Celtic
    86. You cannot deny Leipzig their win this evening.
Scoring five goals but only three of them counting.
It also makes the reverse fixture next week at Celtic Park is of huge importance now to Ange Postecoglou’s side.
    RB Leipzig 3-1 Celtic
    84. McCarthy gets involved straight away.
He feeds Taylor who looks to cross from the edge of the box with a lot of pace on the ball.
It takes a deflection and goes over the crossbar for a corner.
    RB Leipzig 3-1 Celtic
    82. Some more changes for the home side.
    Halstenberg comes on for Raum.
Poulsen comes on for Szoboszlai who gets a standing ovation.
    Giakoumakis comes on for Kyogo.
    McCarthy comes on for Hatate.
    RB Leipzig 3-1 Celtic
    80. Celtic need to be wary now.
If they let their performance slip in these final ten minutes or so Leipzig could turn this scoreline into a rout.
With the potential of the head to head record between the sides coming into play in the group standings, the final result this evening could be key.
    RB Leipzig 3-1 Celtic
    78. Nkunku plays a lofted ball out wide to Simakan.
His cushioned volley is straight into the path of Andre Silva.
With Hart sprawling across his goal, he slots the ball home.

Goal – Andre Silva (RB Leipzig)
    RB Leipzig 2-1 Celtic
    76. Time is not on Celtic’s side right now.
Leipzig know that one more goal would put this game to bed.
Forsberg is already causing issues for the Celtic backline.
    RB Leipzig 2-1 Celtic
    74. The problem for Celtic now is the more they push forward in search of an equaliser, they leave themselves open to the counter-attack.
Szoboszlai goes to ground on the edge of the box looking for a free kick but the referee is not having any of it.
The Hungarian winger is receiving some treatment.
    Forrest comes on for Maeda.
    Haksabanovic comes on for O’Riley.
    RB Leipzig 2-1 Celtic
    72. You can really see why so many teams are interested in Christopher Nkunku.
He really looks a special player.
Leipzig continue to come forward but a loose pass gifts it to Jota.
    RB Leipzig 2-1 Celtic
    70. Ange Postecoglou needs to get his team going in these final twenty minutes in Germany.
Since the goal, heads seem to have dropped.
Leipzig on the other hand have scored 4 goals tonight and find themselves 2-1 up.
    Werner comes off for Forsberg.
    Kampl comes off for Haidara.
    RB Leipzig 2-1 Celtic
    68. What a period of play that was.
Goals disallowed harshly and then Celtic gift the hosts a goal.
What was Joe Hart thinking of, only he will know.
    Terrible error.
    Credit: AFP
    RB Leipzig 2-1 Celtic
    66. Joe Hart will not want to see this one again.
In no danger whatsoever, he passes the ball to Szoboszlai.
He slides Andre Gomes in who slots the ball passed the embarrassed Joe Hart.
Goal – Andre Silva (RB Leipzig)
    RB Leipzig 1-1 Celtic
    64. Unbelievable scenes!
Celtic fans celebrate the decision like they have scored themselves.
    Incredibly harsh on the Germans.
    RB Leipzig 2-1 Celtic
    62. VAR is checking this one.
Szoboszlai cuts inside from the left onto his favoured right foot.
He strikes the ball from distance into the bottom corner.
Andre Gomes ducked underneath the shot but he may have been in Joe Hart’s eyeline.
The referee is heading over to the monitor.
    Goal – Szoboszlai (RB Leipzig)
    RB Leipzig 1-1 Celtic
    60. O’Riley receives a yellow card.
Trying to hold the ball up he catches his marker with a stray arm.

    Hoops looking to turn tide
Celtic have never won an away match in Germany in 13 previous attempts (D3, L10).
They have failed to score in nine of those games and have only registered six goals in the other games.
The Hoops have only won one of their previous 13 games in the UEFA Champions League (D3, L9).
Scotland looking for some European cheer
After Rangers’ defeat at Anfield last night, neither of the Scottish teams in the Champions League have managed to register a win thus far.
Celtic will be looking to break an away record that has not seen them win on the road in the competition since 2017.
Their last away win was a 3-0 victory over Anderlecht in Belgium.
Celtic boss wary of German challenge
The Hoops head coach outlined what he is expecting from tonight’s opponents:
If you look at their recent form, they’re definitely a goal threat and they’ve got both individual players, but the manner in which they play, they’re an aggressive side as well, and we kind of know what to expect.Ange PostecoglouCeltic
    Leipzig back to winning ways
The German side avoided a third straight defeat in all competitions at the weekend with a 4-0 win over Bochum VfL in the Bundesliga.
Chelsea-linked Christopher Nkunku and former Blues forward Timo Werner were in fine form.
Both players scored a brace to claim their third league win in eight matches this season.
Welcome to RB Leipzig vs Celtic
RB Leipzig welcome Celtic to the Red Bull Arena with both teams searching for their first win in this season’s Champions League campaign.
If either side has any ambitions of making the last-16, victory tonight is a must, the German side will be looking to force their dominance on Celtic from the off.
Leipzig duo Konrad Laimer and Lukas Klostermann are both ruled out with ankle injuries, while Dani Olmo is sidelined with a ligament problem.
Rose is unlikely to make too many changes, if any, with centre-back Mohamed Simakan set to continue at right-back in the absence of Klostermann and Xaver Schlager deputising for Laimer in centre-midfield alongside Kevin Kampl.
Werner, who was an unused substitute the last time Leipzig faced Celtic five years ago, is expected to start in attack with Nkunku, who was directly involved in nine Champions League goals in just six group games last season.
As for Celtic, Carl Starfelt (knee) and Georgios Giakoumakis (leg) are both set to miss out through injury, while Cameron Carter-Vickers (knock) and James McCarthy (illness) are both doubtful and will be assessed ahead of kickoff.

‘He’s p***ed off’ – Ten Hag reveals Cristiano Ronaldo’s reaction to Man Utd dropping and defends Casemiro derby snub

ERIK TEN HAG has admitted that Cristiano Ronaldo was ‘pissed off’ at not starting in Sunday’s derby but still insists he is happy at Manchester United.Ronaldo was left on the bench during the 6-3 mauling at the hands of Champions Manchester City on Sunday.

Ten Hag said afterwards that he did not bring him into the fray in the second-half out of respect for him.
But ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League match away to Omonia Nicosia the boss admits his star man wants to be out on that pitch.
Ten Hag said: “He’s not happy that he wasn’t playing Sunday, don’t get me wrong. Of course, he wants to play and he’s pissed off when he’s not playing. Clear.
“When you’re here and you’re happy, or satisfied, to be on the bench, this is not a club where you have to be, especially Cristiano. He’s really competitive, as we all know. He’s not happy when he’s not playing.”

Ronaldo has only started the two Europa League games game since the 4-0 humiliation away to Brentford back in August.
The last one was in the Red Devils game away to FC Sheriff when he scored from the spot in a 2-0 win, still his only goal this season.
But he is expected to start in Cyprus and Ten Hag says he is showing in training that he is ready to go.
Ronaldo certainly looked happy at Carrington on the eve of the game not least when he celebrated nutmegging Lisandro Martinez.

He said: “He’s training well, he has a good mood, he’s motivated and he gives his best, that is what we expect.”
Ten Hag defended his decision not to bring Ronaldo on in the second half opting to give Anthony Martial some time instead after returning from injury.
Martial responded with two goals while Ronaldo looked unhappy on the bench but Ten Hag says everyone knows why he took that decision, as he refused to expose the United legend to a lost cause.
He said: “I think you know why that is, when you’re honest, you know there is a difference.

“I will treat everyone with respect but they all have different backgrounds, with the character they’re different, I have to treat players different to get the best out of them, but there are general standards and values that count for everyone.”
He has also defended his decision not to start £70million new buy Casemiro yet, explaining that the form of Scott McTominay is what has been keeping him out.
Ten Hag said: “It had nothing to do with Casemiro, and all to do with Scott.
“We have won five and in five games Scott played.

“For me it’s logical, it’s competition in the team. For me is was not a choice. He improved really well, he developed really well. Nothing to do with Casemiro.
