GERMAN cops have arrested a suspected ISIS terrorist while he was trying to sneak his way into the Euros. Anti-terror investigators caught Soufian T, 23, who is said to have applied to get a pass as a security guard for “side events” outside the football stadium.Fans cheering for their home teams during a football matchWhen authorities checked his application to become a member of staff, they found that the German state security had deemed Soufian an Islamist. Cops from the Cologne police department, along with investigators from the Bonn State Security Service and federal police, arrested the German-Moroccan-Polish citizen with his mother and sister at Cologne-Bonn Airport.A number of mobile phones and €2,500 were seized. The championship kicks off in Germany on June 14 and the build-up has already started.Read More on Euro 2024The England team is set to play against Slovenia in a stadium in Cologne. State security officials also discovered that he had applied for two accreditations in Rhineland-Palatinate for the big events Rock am Ring and the 24 Hour Nürburgring.Further investigations by the Federal police found that the suspected terrorist had booked a one-way ticket for a trip from Germany to Istanbul in May, fuelling their suspicions. After the arrest, Soufian T’s apartment was searched and other mobile phones, data storage devices and computers were confiscated. Most read in FootballThe Federal Criminal Police Office was also called in and further investigations were made on his bank account and online activities.Investigators also seized what are said to have been suspicious recordings. The suspect was taken to Karlsruhe under heavy guard and brought before the investigating judge at the Federal Court of Justice. His mother stated that they were supposedly planning to make a pilgrimage to Mecca. She was able to show tickets that showed that they were planning to continue their journey to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. She also had return tickets with her.The investigation is ongoing. It comes as the threat of terrorism in Europe by radical jihadists is at an all-time high.England fans were previously warned of a new terror threat for Euro 2024.Previously, ISIS-K – an Afghanistan-based offshoot of ISIS – issued threats against cities including Paris and London. The Al Azaim Foundation, a media channel responsible for disseminating messages from ISIS-K shared a post threatening an attack on four stadiums, also including the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid.Games targeted included Arsenal versus Bayern Munich at the Emirates Stadium, and PSG vs Barcelona at the Parc des Princes. It comes after French security services foiled a plot for an “Islamist-inspired” attack which was planned for during this summer’s Olympic Games. The country’s domestic intelligence agency arrested 18-year-old Rokhman B. who is suspected of organising an attack on a football game in Lyon. The Chechen immigrant to France is said to have wanted to disrupt games planned in Saint-Étienne, a city in the east of the country, and “die a martyr” by killing spectators or police officers.France’s interior ministry said he had been detained for “actively preparing an attack against the Geoffroy Guichard stadium [in Saint-Etienne] during the football games that will take place there.”Meanwhile, the Paris Olympics chief promised a ring of steel at the opening ceremony amid fears it may have to be moved due to terror threats.Tony Estanguet insisted that “security is the priority” to ensure the safety of 15million fans and more than 10,000 athletes.Western intelligence revealed how cops stopped at least 12 terror attacks in the past 12 months across Europe.Ten jihadist attacks have been bravely intercepted and prevented in Europe last year, says Dutch intelligence agency AIVD.READ MORE SUN STORIESWho are ISIS-K?
ISIS-K are a splinter faction is a warped army of barbaric fanatics that even terrify the Taliban.
It’s members are believed to have led the massacre at a Russian rock concert that killed at least 133.
Some 6,000 people are believed to have been inside the venue watching Russian rock band Picnic when the bloodshed began.
The gunmen began shooting civilians at point-blank range – through glass doors, turnstiles and then the concert hall itself, traumatised witnesses said.
At least 133 were killed – including three children – and over 121 wounded – but the death toll continues to rise as bodies are pulled from the smouldering rubble.
The US says it has intelligence that confirms the Islamic State’s claim of responsibility for the bloody massacre – and argued it was led by an Afghanistan-based splinter cell, ISIS-K.
Originally formed in 2015, the group have been a consistent threat to security in Afghanistan, carrying out brutal suicide bombings and vile ceremonial executions.
The “K” refers to the historical region of Greater Khorasan, which included parts of Iran, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.
Despite efforts from the West, the former Afghan government and the Taliban to fight them back – they seized on the chaos sown by the country’s collapse and quickly established a reputation for extreme brutality.
One of the most active regional affiliates of the Islamic State militant group, ISIS-K’s membership peaked in 2018 before declining.
It suffered heavy losses inflicted by American air strikes and Taliban forces, reportedly cutting its ranks in half.
However, it got a dramatic second wind after the US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan and the country’s fall to the Taliban.
The group was responsible for an attack on Kabul’s international airport in 2021 that killed 13 US troops and scores of civilians during the chaotic US evacuation from the country.
The attack raised the international profile of the group and help position it as a major threat to the Taliban’s rule.
On May 8, 2021, ISIS-K were blamed for the bombing of the Sayed al-Shuhada girls’ school which saw two improvised explosive devices and a car bomb explode outside the school.
Other vicious attacks include the storming of Kabul University by gunman which left 22 dead and 22 wounded in November 2020, and a suicide bomber who blew himself up at a wedding killing 92 in August 2019.
In September 2022, ISIS-K militants claimed responsibility for a deadly suicide bombing at the Russian embassy in Kabul.

Among the attacks foiled include stabbing rampages at global events, and barbaric assaults on specific venues and groups being targeted, the annual report revealed.AIVD didn’t elaborate further on where the 10 attacks were set to take place.Euro 2024 kicks off on June 14Credit: Getty More

England rivals ‘can’t believe’ Jack Grealish was left out of Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 squad

GERMANY players have reportedly been left SHOCKED by Gareth Southgate’s decision to axe Jack Grealish from England’s Euro 2024 squad. Grealish, 28, was one of seven players who failed to make the cut as Southgate trimmed his 33-man squad down to 26 on Thursday.Germany squad has reportedly been left stunned by Jack Grealish’s omission from England’s Euro 2024 squadCredit: Sunday TimesEberechi Eze, 25, who currently boasts three international caps, was given the nod ahead of the three time Premier League winner. The Crystal Palace forward was viewed as a fringe choice for the squad but managed to sway Southgate with his performances this season. And now it is claimed that members in the Germany squad were amazed by Eze’s inclusion over ex-Aston Villa captain Grealish. The Independent reports that many members of Die Mannschaft were “stunned” when they saw the England squad heading for Germany.READ MORE FOOTBALL NEWSIt also claimed Grealish was seen as a player who “provokes fear in opposition when he runs at them” and that they do not feel the same about Eze.Grealish is considered to be one of the most popular players in the dressing room and the country. In fact, ex-Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic said that it is “good news” for Serbia that Southgate has ditched Grealish and Marcus Rashford.Matic wrote on X: “I would like to have players like Rashford and Grealish in the team. GARETH SOUTHGATE has made a habit of taking ruthless calls during his eight years as England boss, writes Dave Kidd.
And his decision to axe Jack Grealish, as well as James Maddison, is further evidence of the Three Lions chief being unafraid to take big decisions with big-name players.
Harry Maguire is also among the seven players left out for the squad to travel to Germany for the Euros, although the decision to omit the Manchester United centre-back is based on his failure to recover from injury.
Southgate is, more than ever, picking on form.
Attacking midfielders such as Eberechi Eze, Jarrod Bowen, Cole Palmer and Anthony Gordon have been rewarded with call-ups for their excellent Premier League form, while Marcus Rashford, Maddison and Grealish all get the chop.
While the England boss is often regarded as an over-cautious nice guy, he took big decisions in getting rid of the likes of Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart and Chris Smalling at the start of his reign.
Southgate also jettisoned Raheem Sterling last year after the Chelsea man had been a regular starter throughout most of his reign.
And Jordan Henderson was left out of the 33-man preliminary squad having been a stalwart for Southgate throughout his previous three tournaments.
Grealish has been a cause celebre for England fans – who have often accused Southgate of holding an agenda against him.
But he has struggled for game-time with Manchester City all season, just as Maddison has been off-form since returning from injury at Spurs.
This is a bold changing of the guard from Southgate, who has relied heavily on Maguire, Henderson, Sterling and Rashford throughout his time in charge, while Grealish and Maddison are both popular flair players who fully expected to make the 26-man party for Germany.
Burnley keeper James Trafford, the Liverpool duo of Curtis Jones and Jarrell Quansah and Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite make up Southgate’s seven-man cull along with Grealish, Maddison and Maguire.  More

WHAT Gareth Southgate said about his axed England stars after confirming his 26-man England squad for Euro 2024.
    Harry Maguire
“The decision on Harry [Maguire] is totally about his physical condition and his recovery from the injury. There is no other reason as he is one of our strongest centre-backs.
“Harry has made some progress, but it’s been complicated and we wouldn’t have had him in the group stages. There were too many hurdles to get through without being clear where we might get to.
“Knowing we haven’t got a clean bill of health across the rest of the backline, we need players who are fit and ready to go from the start.
“It was a really difficult call, you know how I feel about Harry, what he’s done for England and for me as a manager. ”
    Jack Grealish
“I have just delivered a really difficult conversation to a lad who is devastated.
“I think the world of him as a kid.“It certainly doesn’t get any easier.
“You put yourself in the shoes of a player, a parent. You understand that for these players this is a devastating moment.
“We knew we had a couple of really difficult days coming up.”
    James Maddison
“Madders [Maddison] and Jack [Grealish] would have provided us with something different as well and they’ve been tough calls.
“They’re calls we’ve gone over and over and over as a group of staff to try to be fair and to try to use the right rationale.
“We back our decisions but we recognise we could have gone a different route. The boys are big characters, fabulous team-mates and great boys to work with.
“It’s sad to have to deliver that news to them.”
    Jarrad Branthwaite
“It’s a bit early for Jarrad [Branthwaite]. He has had a fabulous season, it was good to get him on the pitch the other night.
“But of course, in an ideal world, you’d like that balance of left-footers. For him to be in ahead of the others, I don’t think it would have been the right call at this stage.”
    Jarell Quansah
“Jarell Quansah has stayed with us. He’s not had the experience of an England international at Wembley. It’ll be great for him to be us for the game.
“Hopefully we’re not needing to call anyone else in.”

Gareth Southgate responds to Wembley boo boys as England suffer humiliating Iceland loss in farewell game before Euros

GARETH SOUTHGATE has given his thoughts on the angry reaction from the Wembley faithful after defeat to Iceland under the arch.England were looking for the perfect send off before heading out to Germany for the Euros, but instead were booed off the pitch by their own fans after a lacklustre effort saw them lose 1-0.Gareth Southgate has spoken out after England were booed at WembleyCredit: AlamyThe Three Lions lost 1-0 to Iceland under the archCredit: AlamyPLAY DREAM TEAM EUROS NOW!The best fantasy football game for this summer’s tournament.
The friendly was supposed to be a breezy confidence builder against a team some 68 places below England in the Fifa world rankings, with a population the size of Bournemouth.Instead it knocked players’ confidence as they trudged off the pitch to the disappointed boos of Three Lions fans – a noise Southgate can only hope doesn’t ring in their ears through until next weekend’s opener. But the England boss isn’t hiding from what was a shocking performance as he sympathised with the opinions of the boo boys inside Wembley. When asked what his message was to the booing supporters, he said: “I completely understand [the boos]. We didn’t play well enough to keep them excited within the game.READ MORE IN FOOTBALL”We had some very, very good chances which normally would be finished which could have given a different complexion to the game and of course would have affected the confidence of the opponent.”But that would have masked some flaws that were apparent tonight. It certainly worked in Russia at the 2018 World Cup. And due to various issues with the defence – as illustrated in this dismal and embarrassing performance at Wembley – Southgate needs to look at playing with five at the back.
We can talk all night about England’s power-packed attack and how they should definitely be getting out the cigars in Berlin on July 14.
Yet there is now a genuine cause for panic as we are now just eight days away from the first game against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen and the defence is a total mess.
England have kept just two clean sheets in the last seven games. If Southgate’s team are to play seven games at Germany – and that would mean an appearance in the final – there must be a bloody great improvement.
The Three Lions will get out of their group because it is virtually impossible not to. But if England do not improve, they will end up getting knocked out in the last 16, like they did against Iceland in Euro 2016.
Speaking at Middlesbrough’s training ground on Sunday, Southgate was asked about whether he has thought about a back five which in Russia, saw his team reach the semi-finals.
He said: “We haven’t as yet. Clearly we could. We know all the strengths and weaknesses of doing that. It’s interesting to read about it being proposed, because I think we were pretty much killed for doing it for quite a long period.
“But given our tactical flexibility, we’d look at everything and it would be silly to rule something out. You can play a three in different ways.
“You build with a three now anyway, so some aspects of our game could have a three involved.
“But for me, it’s less about shoehorning players into the team, it’s about having the best team and players to come into it, because you need that at tournaments.”
It was only after the World Cup in 2018 that Southgate revealed the reason why he played with three central defenders. This was because he was worried about the inexperience of Harry Maguire who had played just five times before going to Russia.
Due to Maguire’s omission from the squad due to his fitness, Marc Guehi will take his position and this was only his 11th cap.
Guehi was England’s best defender but against better opposition in a more pressured environment, he will be tested more. Against Bosnia and Herzegovina, he did not play particularly well.
Yet last night, John Stones – having started just 12 Premier League games for Manchester City in his worst season for the club –  really struggled before being replaced by Ezri Konsa at half-time.
It did not help that Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson fell on him early on but Stones did not cover himself in glory when the same Icelandic player scored the winner.
Luke Shaw, sidelined since February with a thigh injury, will not be fit until the second game at the earliest.
And with Ben Chilwell not even making the provisional 33, Southgate currently only has right-footed defenders.
Kyle Walker is arguably the best right-back in Europe but his form dipped in the last two months of the season for Manchester City.
He was caught out for the first goal as he appeared to have left his turbo boosters at Tottenham’s training ground. He then blamed Phil Foden for not covering properly.
After making his mass changes for the final quarter,  England’s back four was Trent Alexander-Arnold, Konsa, Guehi and Joe Gomez. That is not a defence you would want to see in the latter stages
So, Southgate needs to look at having a back three with Walker switching into the central three like he did in Russia, alongside Stones and Guehi.
Trent Alexander-Arnold would be more comfortable at right-wing back with Trippier on the other side before the return of Shaw.
With a five-man defence, Southgate would partner Declan Rice with Kobbie Mainoo or Adam Wharton but you would lose an offensive player.
Bukayo Saka would have to make way and you would have Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden as the offensive midfielders playing behind Harry Kane.
Southgate also played with a back five against Italy in the final of Euro 2020 although since then, has discarded it.
But regardless, if he sticks with a back four, he will want his players to do the basics better. And then, we can think about maybe winning a match in the last 16.
As for reaching the final, let’s put that one on the back-burner.
