    How Slovenia attack
Slovenia will be one of few teams at the Euros to play a 4-4-2, with Sesko partnering former Middlesbrough striker Andraz Sporar up front.
When Slovenia attack, the two wingers will come inside to play as makeshift attacking midfielders in a front four. They are also dangerous on the counter-attack.

The former England star has come closer than anyone since Sir Alf Ramsey to ending the Three Lions’ trophy hoodoo.

    STAR MAN: Jude Bellingham
The Real Madrid star is arguably the world’s best player at the moment and gives England the platform they need to dominate big games.
    How England attack
England will look to dominate the ball against almost everybody.
Declan Rice is crucial in progressing the ball, Bellingham, Saka and Foden will rotate to pull defenders out of position and Kane can both score and drop deep to provide chances for others.
    How England defend
England press man-to-man with the midfield pushing up to support Kane when the ball is lost and look to win it as close to the opposition goal as possible.
However, the left-back spot could be a cause for concern, particularly with Luke Shaw entering the tournament with fitness worries.

Here’s how SunSport’s Tom Barclay rated the Three Lions team.
    Jordan Pickford: 6
Looked a little jittery early doors, though there was nothing he could do about Morten Hjulmand’s corker and he made a decent parry after the break.
    Kyle Walker: 7
Made England’s opener by racing round a sleeping Victor Kristiansen – he’ll be having nightmares of that forevermore – and teeing up Kane via a deflected cross.
    John Stones: 6
OK but you have got to wonder how fit he feels having barely played for Man City in the second half of the season, plus his injury and illness issues over the last month.
Marc Guehi: 8 and my star man
Really encouraging again from the Crystal Palace centre-back, looking sharp with his interceptions and assured in distribution.
    Kieran Trippier: 6
Like Stones, he was fine, but England really need Luke Shaw back ASAP because having no natural left-footer at left-back is a problem.
    Trent Alexander-Arnold: 5
This experiment of playing Trent in midfield is far from convincing, especially when his passing was off it like it was here, barring one good ball to Saka. Subbed on 54 minutes.
    Declan Rice: 5
Had to cover so much ground as England dropped worryingly deep in the first half and also lost it a few times in front of his back four.
    Bukayo Saka: 7
Not quite as electric as his first half against Serbia, but another solid showing from our right winger who has been our most consistent attacker across the two games.
    Jude Bellingham: 6
Nowhere near the majestic display he put in against Serbia and one of many who looked tired.
    Phil Foden: 7
Was far more involved than against Serbia – although that was not hard – and had a few dangerous efforts from range, including one that smacked the post after the break.
    Harry Kane: 6
Netted his 64th goal for his country with an opener he could not really miss, but then gave the ball away from Denmark’s leveller. Surprisingly subbed.
    SUBS:
Conor Gallagher (on for Trent, 54): 7
Vital clearance on the stretch when Christian Eriksen was lurking and was not afraid to put his foot in.
Ollie Watkins (on for Kane, 70): 6
Played in by Bellingham’s lovely ball after coming on but could not finish from an acute angle.
Jarrod Bowen (on for Foden, 69): 6
Copped a nasty tackle which saw Joakim Maehle booked.
Eberechi Eze (on for Saka, 69): 6
On for his tournament bow though he was rarely involved.

England’s players were put through a series of stretches by NHS doctor Jade, who runs wellness retreats. In the gym where they performed exercises like ‘downward dog’, the wall was emblazoned with motivational messages. One read: “Be brave. Be a leader. Be resilient. Commit. Win.”Another said: “Find your greatness.”Denmark got yesterday  off as boss  Kasper Hjulmand aims to create ‘hygge’ — the Danish word meaning to escape the daily rush and enjoy life’s quieter pleasures. Hjulmand said: “It’s the first day off since June 3 and it’s important to get away for a bit.“I don’t know what they will do. People just need to be, to lick their wounds.”Meanwhile, Southgate said he always expected a bumpy road in their bid to win the Euros. He added: “We have to guide the team through the difficult period that is coming but really stay on track and focus on this challenge ahead.“We are trying to do something that has never been done before. So that is going to be a bit of a rollercoaster.“It’s not going to go smoothly when you are trying to achieve extraordinary things. They are bloody difficult.“So we have to accept the level of expectations, we have to accept the arena we are in.“And we have to find a better way of playing.“We are in a different situation to the previous tournaments we have been in but, in other ways, exactly the same — with four points after two games.  But we know the performance level has to be better.“We’ve got some strong leaders in the dressing room here who have been in situations like this and will play their part in lifting people.READ MORE SUN STORIES“We have to play better. “The surest sign of fatigue is dropping deep.
“Declan Rice is having to cover so much ground. No-one can convince me this is a strategy.”

England look like they’re waiting to lose to the first good team they play… Gareth Southgate picked the wrong squad

SUDDENLY it feels as if the England shirt is weighing heavily again.Suddenly there is talk of anxiety and fatigue, as well as square pegs in round holes and an England team which is nowhere near as good as the sum of its parts.Gareth Southgate’s England struggled in their 1-1 draw with Denmark on ThursdayCredit: RexGareth Southgate was supposed to have swept away all of this negativity — and for the previous three tournaments he largely had. But  after   Thursday’s dismal 1-1 draw with   Denmark, it feels like we’re back in the bad old days of Sven and the Golden Generation, Steve McClaren, Fabio Capello or Roy Hodgson. We have seen this movie before — the one where England grind through a group stage and lose to the first good team they play.If England  top the group then see off a third-place team in the last 16, you wouldn’t be hugely confident facing the likes of Italy or Switzerland in the quarters.READ MORE ENGLAND NEWSOr, if we fail to beat Slovenia in our final group game on Tuesday, the greater indignity of losing to Germany in the last 16 next weekend.Much more of this and there will be a “root-and-branch review” and much yadda-yadda about winter breaks.Harry Kane, by the way, had a three-week winter break with Bayern Munich and the England skipper looks more knackered than most.Southgate has picked the wrong squad, that much is clear. But just as worrying is the England boss chose to publicise a team meeting he held to explain to his players the intense scrutiny they are under. Most read in Euro 2024CASINO SPECIAL – BEST CASINO WELCOME OFFERS’We’re struggling with and without the ball’, admits Harry Kane
HARRY KANE admits England “haven’t been good enough” at the Euros.
Here’s what skipper Kane said after the disappointing 1-1 draw with Denmark:
“We’re struggling with and without the ball.
“The pressing in both games hasn’t been quite right. We haven’t been good enough, from top to bottom, from me to Picks (Jordan Pickford).
“Everyone is dropping below their level a bit, in terms of retaining the ball, playing under pressure.
“We know there’ll be a bit of noise and disappointment back home.
“But it’s a time to stay calm and we’ll get there step by step.
“It wasn’t our greatest game but we got away with draw.
“We are starting games well. But when the teams are dropping a few players deeper we are not quite sure how to get the pressure on, and who is the one who is supposed to be going.”
“In the second half, we changed it with me and Jude (Bellingham)  playing in front of their two midfielders. But it was difficult.”

After that, it’s little wonder that England produced such an “anxious” performance against the Danes.Southgate claimed his players were guilty of “caring too much”.Gary Lineker ‘shows better movement than the England team’ as MOTD host delivers scathing Harry Kane verdictFor the last three tournaments, England’s players enjoyed themselves on and off the pitch. This one feels different. Now, they seem to think the world is against them. But unlike many of his predecessors, Southgate is not being pilloried. He is not being turnipped up.Indeed, most England fans feel the mainstream media are far too easy on him.More pertinent is the fact that Southgate’s squad is imbalanced and has been shorn of too much tournament experience. His gamble on Luke Shaw’s fitness would not have been such a risk if there’d been a back-up left-back in his 26.Ben Chilwell, who captained Chelsea at times last season, is not a bad player. But Southgate would rather have no left-back at all. It’s weird.Shaw, sidelined since February, is still not training with the team. It’s looking increasingly unlikely he will feature at all in this tournament.Trent Alexander-Arnold has started both of England’s matches in midfieldCredit: GettyLuke Shaw has yet to feature as he continues to recover from injuryCredit: PAThis is a basic error, leaving right-footed Kieran Trippier on the left. And the “experiment” of playing Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield always looked doomed to failure. You don’t experiment at major tournaments and don’t pick an odd-job man when you need a master craftsman. What’s the point in selecting Kobbie Mainoo and Adam Wharton if you don’t trust them to start in central midfield in front of a right-back?Mainoo carried Manchester United for large parts of last season. He should start against Slovenia but it will probably be Conor Gallagher, a decent but basic scuffler. The absence of experienced back-up wide players is also odd.Jack Grealish, Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling are not in peak form but played well at past tournaments.Pundits and legends lay into EnglandENGLAND’s lifeless display in the 1-1 draw with Denmark left pundits and legends queuing up to take a dig at Gareth Southgate’s team.

Captain Virgil van Dijk will be expected to be a stalwart in defence while Xavi Simons will be hoping for a breakout tournament. But they may miss injured Frenkie de Jong.
    MANAGER: Ronald Koeman
Ex-Barcelona and Everton boss was the scourge of England as a player when he knocked Graham Taylor’s side out of World Cup qualifying in 1994.
    STAR MAN: Virgil van Dijk
Liverpool star has won everything there is to win at club level and will be counted on to keep things tight at the back.
    How Holland attack
The Netherlands will play with a typically Dutch patient possession-based build-up.
They will stagger their positions to play through the lines, but can be overly individualistic in the final third.
    How Holland defend
The Dutch will play with a medium block, allowing the opposition to break the first line before engaging in the midfield area.
They can run into problems when they fail to protect the middle of the pitch.

ENGLISH VAR officials . . . here we go again.
Stuart Attwell took far too long to make a call on Xavi Simons’ strike and he got it wrong by sticking with the on-field decision.
It was a ‘good’ goal because Denzel Dumfries should not have been adjudged offside.
Holland’s Dumfries did not affect the line of vision for France keeper Mike Maignan, who made no attempt to save a shot he could not have reached.
It means wing-back Dumfries was not involved in ‘active’ play.
The VAR decision-making had been so slick in Germany up until last night.
But with VAR Attwell, who should have sent English referee Anthony Taylor to the pitchside monitor, we had the slowest decision of Euro 2024 so far — which took just under three minutes.

Neither side was able to find an opener following Simons’ disallowed goal. The draw also means both France and Netherlands are yet to book their place in the last 16.EURO 2024 LIVE: KEEP UP TO DATE WITH ALL THE LATEST NEWS FROM GERMANY More
