Rattled Italians accuse England of cheating in bizarre Euro 2020 conspiracy theory involving Boris Johnson

TOP selling Italian sports paper Gazzetta Dello Sport hinted at a conspiracy theory over the disputed Raheem Sterling penalty which gave England their win. They suggested the Three Lions have been given help to reach the final in return for Boris Johnson’s vocal opposition to the failed European Super League, which threatened Uefa’s control of the continental game and is still supported by Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli.

In an editorial from London its correspondent Stefano Boldrini wrote:”In a Euro tournament organised and arranged for England, it is not surprising that it was a very generous penalty that launched Gareth Southgate’s band towards their first final after 55 years.
“Such a shame, because this national team does not need help, but what happened this month, with UEFA ignoring the appeals of two (Germany and Italy) governments and the cry of alarm launched by the World Health Organization, gives an idea of what the atmosphere was like.
“For England, it has been a home tournament but they have to play Italy and they are worried.
“Roberto Mancini will instead have to take into account two things: the consistency of the opposition and political wind that is blowing.
“British Prime Minister Boris Johnson went down in history as the man who saved European football. A payback would be logical.
“We may be thinking bad thoughts, we may be sinners, but better that than being a fool.”

Some Italian football fans expressed their shock at England’s extra-time penalty on social media, with one saying: “You won a semifinal in such a shameful manner.”
Another said: “Clearly a disgraceful dive.”
And another said: “Daily light robbery! It wasn’t a penalty. Italy will wipe England because they not deserve to be in the final.”
Italy and Paris Saint-Germain ace Marco Verratti also got in on the act, insisting the Three Lions were lucky to have reached their first final over 55 years.
The midfielder said: “It was a generous penalty, I wouldn’t have whistled for it.
“It was an important goal, they won the game. Let’s say it’s a generous penalty.”

England chief Southgate was quizzed about the awarding of the penalty after the match but admitted he was more concerned about an extra ball being on the pitch moments before Sterling was ajudged to have been fouled.
He said: “I saw the [extra] ball on the pitch so I wasn’t sure how that would be dealt with.
“But, I saw a game in England where that happened and the goal wasn’t disallowed.
“I haven’t really seen the penalty situation, but a lot of people have asked me the same question [if it was harsh on Denmark].”
Victory over the Danes was redemption for Southgate, who missed the crucial penalty in England’s Euro 1996 semi-final with Germany.
But he was quick to remove the spotlight from himself and place it back on his star-studded squad.

He said: “I’m so proud of the players. It’s an incredible occasion to be a part of – we knew it wouldn’t be straightforward.
“We said to the players we’ll have to show our resilience and come back from some setbacks, and we’ve done that tonight.
“The most pleasing thing is that we’ve given our fans and our nation a fantastic night, and the journey continues on for another four days.
“There’s one more massive hurdle to try to conquer. Italy are a very good side.
“They’ve shown outstanding form and have defensive warriors at the back who have been through everything. It’s something to look forward to.”

Jack Grealish ‘keeps singing cheeky song at England’s West Brom-supporting kitman Pat Frost’

CHEEKY Jack Grealish has been keeping his spirits high by winding-up England’s West Brom-supporting kitman throughout Euro 2020.The Aston Villa star, despite only starting once, has played a huge role in helping the Three Lions reach the semi-finals of Euro 2020.

And Wembley was abuzz with excitement again when the 25-year-old came on in the 68th minute of last night’s 2-1 semi-final victory over Denmark.
Unfortunately for Grealish he lasted just 36 minutes on the pitch, before being sacrificed by Gareth Southgate for a more defensive option in Kieran Trippier after England went ahead through Harry Kane.
However, rather than being upset at his brief cameo, the playmaker was just delighted to have helped the Three Lions reach their first major final for 55 years where they will face Italy.
That attitude sums up the fun-loving and much-loved Grealish over the past month – and it has made him a huge hit staff as well as fans.
England’s kitman Pat Frost has revealed he has been on the end of some serious stick throughout the camp for his love of the Baggies – Villa’s rivals who were relegated from the Premier League in May.
Frost has not only been a season-ticket at West Brom since he was kid, he was also the club’s kit man before joining The FA.
And he revealed on Twitter that both he and ‘great bloke’ Grealish had been dishing it out to each other over their club rivalry over recent weeks together.
BirminghamLive’s Mat Kendrick kicked off the conversation on Twitter while referring to Grealish getting over the disappointment of being subbed on and then off.

He wrote: “Jack Grealish has coped with family tragedy, relegation & FA Cup despair with his beloved club & being punched in the head by an idiot.
“He’ll suck up whatever he feels tonight & unleash it on Italy in a Euro 2020 final cameo at Wembley – and probably play himself in the movie.”
Dave Challoner, the man who performs the role of Albion’s ‘Baggie Bird’ mascot, replied: “This!!!!! Team game, well done @JackGrealish. Played your part, for another week I’ll support you lad. Just stop singing f*** the Albion to @KitmanPat!”
And that led to Frost responding himself, tweeting: “He gives it me and I certainly give it him… he’s a great bloke BTW.”
Southgate went to Grealish to explain his decision to sub him back off at the final whistle last night.

But the midfielder, 25, replied: “Gaffer, it doesn’t matter. I’m not bothered.
    “We’ve got to the final!”
Southgate, 50, explained to talkSPORT, saying: “Jack had a brilliant influence on the game.
“Denmark threw four forwards forward and we needed five [defenders] back.
“Raheem [Sterling] was such a threat that it was either going to be Phil [Foden] or Jack to get the solidity without the ball.
“We still needed to get that pressure up the pitch. We sank a little bit too deep for five minutes or so.
“We just needed to keep the ball and it took us five minutes to work that out. When we started to keep it, we were running the clock down with a lot less anxiety.”
After the match, Grealish posted on Instagram: “I love this team!! What a night at Wembley! One more to go.”

MORE than 100,000 England fans have signed a petition for a bank holiday on Monday if England win the Euros – and Boris Johnson didn’t rule it out. The PM today hinted that a national day off could be on the cards if the Three Lions triumph against Italy on Sunday evening but said: “Let’s see what happens”.

It comes after cheeky supporters bombarded Boris Johnson with requests for a national holiday to celebrate an England win.
Whitehall officials are examining how the nation should mark what would be a historic triumph, Politico reports.
Pressed on whether the nation would be allowed a day to celebrate, the PM’s official spokesman said: “I don’t want to pre-empt the outcome of Sunday’s match.
“Clearly we want England to go all the way and win the final, and then we will set out our plans in due course.
“We will hopefully, when England go on to win, then go on to set out our plans.”
But he ruled out increasing the number of fans allowed to attend Wembley, saying: “There are no plans to extend the capacity.”
Downing Street also said employers who are able to should be flexible about allowing staff to go in to work late on Monday or take the day off if England win – in a boost for hungover Brits.
    BANK HOLIDAY CALLS
This morning, Chancellor Rishi Sunak refused to rule out a snap Euros Bank Holiday on Monday to toast an England win in the final.
And there are rumours Gareth Southgate could be in line for a knighthood if England win the tournament.
Following last night’s 2-1 win over Denmark, millions of England fans went wild last night as Harry Kane’s extra-time goal secured a place in Sunday’s final.
Asked about a possible Bank Holiday Monday if England lift the trophy, the Prime Minister said: “I think that would be tempting fate, let’s see what happens.”

Earlier, Mr Johnson tweeted: “Tonight England played their hearts out.
“What a fantastic performance from Gareth Southgate’s squad. Now to the final.
    “Let’s bring it home.”
The PM was immediately faced with demands for an emergency Bank Holiday if England win on Sunday,.
One fan tweeted: “Get an emergency Bank Holiday in Boris lad.”
Another posted: “Time to declare a public holiday on Monday if we win.”

A third said: “Make Monday a Bank Holiday when we win it! ITS F***ING COMING HOME.”
And one joked this morning: “Give us Monday off. Got a stinking hangover at work and can’t do it again, man.”
The government has already extended pub opening hours to 11.15pm on Sunday in case of extra-time and penalties.
Mr Johnson signed off plans for extra drinking time for Sunday night’s Wembley showdown.
Rishi Sunak didn’t say no when asked this morning if the government would give Brits the day off to celebrate a Euros win.
Laughing, the Chancellor told LBC: “You and I may be the only people who were up at this point today.
“But I hope everyone enjoys their extra 45 minutes in the pub on Sunday night.”

Meanwhile, there are calls for Southgate to be made a Sir if he becomes the first England manager since Sir Alf Ramsey to win a trophy.
Star players like Raheem Sterling – who already has an MBE – could also be in line for a gong, Politico reports.
Three Lions boss Southgate would make history if he steered England to their first-ever Euros triumph on Sunday.
If knighted, he would follow in the footsteps of Sir Alf, who led England to victory against West Germany in the 1966 final.

Bobby Robson, who steered England to the 1990 World Cup semi-final, was knighted in 2002 for his services to football.
Manchester United managers Sir Alex Ferguson and Sir Matt Busby have also been knighted after their European and domestic trophy success.
Meanwhile, England fans want a statue of Southgate erected in the town in which he grew up.
They have launched a petition to honour the Three Lions boss in Crawley, West Sussex.
The change.org petition, started during the 2018 World Cup in Russia where England also made the semi-finals, has more than 1,500 signatures.
It reads: “Gareth grew up in Crawley . . . and we believe the council should recognise his achievements with a statue of the man himself!”

The petition has been resurrected following the latest successes.
A council spokesman said: “We’re tremendously proud of what Gareth Southgate has achieved.
“He’s a son of Crawley who grew up here, went to school here and learnt a lot of his football here so we want to recognise his achievements. Nothing has been ruled out.”

Standing there with the pizzas while it chimes, he can suddenly hear loud screams and shouts from inside.
The driver immediately cottons on to what has just happened.
The man breaks out in a huge smile, repeatedly punches the air in delight and says ‘yes!’
He then asks: “Has England just scored?”

David Peach, 45, whose Ring doorbell captured the excited scene, told the Sun Online his family had “ordered four pizzas from Domino’s” for the big match.
David, who works for printing firm Furnival Press in London, said he and his partner, Amanda Tissington, 45, had been engrossed in the drama unfolding on the screen.
Then, “the driver rang the doorbell at the very moment the goal was scored, and my girlfriend was near the door.
“The poor bugger was obviously working and missing the match so he had a bit of excitement outside the front door.
“She was screaming, everyone screamed when we scored.”
The driver asked her “did we score, did we score?”
When Amanda confirmed the happy news, the Domino’s driver was absolutely thrilled.

“Sunday is going to be a good day – first [England final] in my lifetime,” he added.

Millions across the country went wild last night as the country celebrated England’s nail-biting victory.

Southgate explains ’embarrassing’ Jack Grealish sub against Denmark – but Neville & Keane back ‘nasty’ England manager

ENGLAND boss Gareth Southgate has explained why he substituted Jack Grealish just 36 minutes after he came on against Denmark.Just a minute after Harry Kane had scored from his rebounded penalty to make it 2-1 in extra-time, Grealish was hauled off for Kieran Trippier.

The 25-year-old was brought on for Arsenal ace Bukayo Saka on 69 minutes.
ITV pundit Gary Neville called it ’embarrassing’ to happen to a player.
His fellow Manchester United legend Roy Keane praised Southgate for having a ‘nasty streak’ to get results.
And now the Three Lions gaffer has explained his reasoning behind subbing off the Aston Villa playmaker.
The 50-year-old told talkSPORT: “Jack had a brilliant influence on the game.

Grealish did not seem too unhappy with how things went, uploading a photo of the lads celebrating with Kane after his goal on Instagram.
He captioned it: “I love this team!! What a night at Wembley! One more to go.”
England managed to hold out without too much alarm and have set up a Euro 2020 final against Italy – their first major final since 1966.
But former England striker Michael Owen wasn’t so sure taking off Grealish was the right idea.

He tweeted: “Regardless of the result, bringing @JackGrealish off isn’t my idea of a good decision.
“He is the perfect player in this situation to keep the ball, win free kicks, run the clock down etc.”
Some fans on Twitter called it ‘disrespectful to Grealish’, but other spoke of their ‘admiration’ for Southgate for taking the difficult decision.
And talkSPORT pundit and England legend Stuart Pearce thinks the boss got it spot on.
He said: “Jack’s probably the least defensive minded of players there. You can’t take Kalvin Phillips off.”
Grealish became just the third England substitute to be hauled off during a tournament match.
The first was at Euro 96 against Scotland.

Jamie Redknapp was thrown on by Terry Venables for Stuart Pearce at half-time.
But the Liverpool ace was then sacrificed with five minutes remaining for Sol Campbell.
A similar incident happened under Sven-Goran Eriksson a decade later at the World Cup in Germany.
Tottenham’s Aaron Lennon was brought on for David Beckham after 52 minutes against Portugal in the quarter-finals.
But ahead of a penalty shoot-out, Jamie Carragher replaced the winger with 119 minutes on the clock.

Angry Danes & Italians accuse England of cheating and Raheem Sterling of diving after Three Lions roared into final

FURIOUS Danish and Italian fans have branded England cheats and Three Lions hero Raheem Sterling a diver. The comments came after Gareth Southgate’s national treasures stormed into England’s first major tournament final in 55 years with a 2-1 semi-final win over Denmark at Wembley on Wednesday.
Angry Danish and Italian fans have labelled England hero Raheem Sterling a diver after this foul saw the Three Lions awarded a penalty
Italian paper Corriere dello Sport’s headline roughly translates as ‘English bores’
The Three Lions needed extra-time to beat the Danes after it finished 1-1 at the end of normal time.
They will meet Italy in Sunday’s final at Wembley – with touts flogging tickets for up to £50,000.
But fans from both countries wasted no time in throwing barbs England’s way after their historic win.
With the scores level at 1-1 at the end of normal time, Three Lions fans were sent to dreamland with just one minute of the first extra period to go.
Sterling was caught in the penalty area with ref Danny Makkelie pointing to the spot.
Although it was arguably soft, VAR did not see a clear and obvious error as there was contact and Harry Kane stepped up.
The usually clinical hitman took a deep breath and hit a weak effort low to Kasper Schmeichel’s left and the Leicester goalie kept it out.
But the ball deflected back into Kane’s path and he slammed it in from close range to trigger glorious scenes inside the national stadium.

Raheem Sterling was phenomenal AGAIN vs Denmark
The Three Lions dominated the semi-final at Wembley

Taking to Twitter after the win, Jesper Jacobsen wrote: “As a Dane, I have to say, you were far and away the better side for long periods. That doesn’t make Sterling’s dive less of a dive though.”
Mathis Hoj Kristensen added: “Proud of our boys, what a fantastic performance and tournament! But also furious about the dive from Sterling! #NoPenalty.”
Draken posted a picture of the ref and captioned it: “England’s man of the match tonight. #Sterling #dive #f***VAR.”
And in Italy – where fans saw their team reach the final with a penalty shootout win over Spain on Tuesday – they were equally critical of the Three Lions’ win.
Gazetta dello Sport wrote: “England had a growing Kane who was flattered by the football gods on penalties. It was harsh.”
And Shemsi called it ‘an absolute scandal’.
Despite the anger from fans of other teams, streetwise Sterling – who is in line for the man-of-the-tournament – was adamant it was a pen.
He said: “I went into the box and he stuck his right leg out, and it touched my leg so it was a clear penalty.”
As well as the penalty decision, fans were also furious about the fact there were two balls on the pitch in the build up to the award.
And one mindless supporter also shone a laser pen at Schmeichel as Kane prepared to take the spot-kick and the Leicester man still saved it.
Understandably those incidents also triggered anger among the European masses.
Shemsi said: “Kasper Schmeichel was blinded by a laser pointer????!!!!!WHERE WAS VAR???
“Two balls on the pitch, Sterling dive, laser pointer attack. Absolute scandal!!!!”

“Booing during our national anthem, using laser pens on @kschmeichel1 and @hojbjerg23 eyes.
“Sterling’s dive, not allowing our supporters to come even you have like a million more corona cases then we do.”
But after listing the things he was furious about, the Scandinavian posted a picture of Boris Johnson in an England shirt and quipped: “That is one thing, well a few things. But this [followed by the face palm and eyes emoji].”
Even the bitter Germans – who England swept aside in the last 16 – got involved as a Bild headline read: “With Kane and luck, England are in the final.”
And ex-Liverpool and Germany midfielder Dietmar Hamann called the decision ‘scandalous’.
Mikkel Damsgaard’s free-kick put the Danes one up after half an hour.
But Bukayo Saka’s fantastic cross just nine minutes later saw Simon Kjaer put through his own net under pressure from Sterling.
England huffed and puffed for the remainder of normal time but neither side could find the break through until Kane’s historic goal.
At 2-1, England held on against a shattered Denmark to set up a final Wembley showdown on Sunday.
As well as earning the adoration of the nation, Kane earned himself another bit of personal glory.
The strike was the 2018 World Cup Golden Boot winner’s 10th goal at a major tournament – the joint highest of any England player with Gary Lineker.

ENGLAND stars Bukayo Saka and Jack Grealish were spotted doing their best Harry Maguire impressions after England reached the Euro 2020 final on Wednesday. The pair were spotted chatting to family and friends at Wembley after the extra-time win over Denmark and the footage immediately drew comparisons with shots of Maguire from the World Cup in 2018.

And fans laughed at Bukayo Saka and Jack Grealish who were spotted in similar situations after England beat Denmark
Three Lions centre-back Maguire was caught in a now timeless shot after he nodded England’s opener in their 2-0 World Cup quarter-final win over Sweden in 2018.
It’s a meme that has taken a life of its own since with millions of fans sharing the picture alongside their own versions of what Maguire might have been saying to the group of girls he was chatting to.
One of them was actually his fiancee Fern Hawkins but that didn’t stop most fans from chiming in with their own funny versions.
And such is the notoriety of the shot, when images of Grealish and Saka nonchalantly draped over the Wembley seats after Wednesday’s famous win emerged, fans were quick to hark back.
ITV football – who broadcast the historic match – were among the first to chime in.

Many have questioned Southgate’s decision to ‘sub the sub’ when he took Grealish off only 36 minutes after putting him on.
The Aston Villa midfielder replaced Saka in the 69th minute of normal time with the scores at 1-1.
He looked lively but could not have as much of a drastic impact from the bench as he has had earlier in the tournament.
Harry Kane sent England fans into dreamland with one minute to go in the first-half of extra-time – scoring the rebound from his own missed penalty to become the Three Lions’ joint top scorer of all time in major tournaments.
And just a minute later – at half-time of extra-time – Grealish was subbed off and replaced by Kieran Trippier as Southgate changed the system to shore up the win.
The tactic worked and England reached their first ever Euros final and Grealish seemed fine with it after the game as he tweeted: “I love this team. What a night at Wembley.”
