And Carragher, who won 38 caps for England, thinks Harry Kane and Co will be celebrating long into the night.
Speaking to Sky Sports, former Liverpool centre-half Carragher predicted how the game would go.
He said: “I think it will be a very tight game. I think it may go to penalties and England come out victorious.
“We have done a lot of work on penalties, so let’s not let that go to waste!
“I don’t think there will be too many goals in the game. Italy are very strong defensively, so are England.
“I think it will be 1-1 and then go to penalties.
“I think it’s the right final. I think they have been the two most impressive teams in this competition – and winner takes all on Sunday.”
Italy are on a stunning record 33-game unbeaten run after former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has completely transformed the team.

They topped Group A winning all their games, then defeated Austria in the last-16, Belgium in the quarter-finals and Spain on penalties in the semis.
History is not on England’s side as they head into the mouthwatering Wembley clash.
In four games against the Italians in major tournaments, England have never won.
And penalties has settled it before.

Italy in coronavirus scare as three media staff test positive at team’s HQ just days before Euro 2020 final with England

ITALY have suffered a coronavirus scare with three media staff testing positive at the team’s HQ just two days before their Euro 2020 final against England. Officials immediately strengthened the bubble around the team and carried out a series of tests to make sure none of the players or immediate staff were also affected.

Their training camp at Coverciano, on the outskirts of Florence, was immediately shut and a specialist cleaning team was brought in to sanitize the facility.
A source at the Italian FA said: “It’s not the ideal preparation for the team and we are making sure that none of them are infected but we are taking no chances and tests are being carried out.
“The chance of infection with any of the team is small but we want to be sure.
“It means that training sessions with the media in attendance have all been cancelled and we are having to make other arrangements.”
The three people who tested positive were part of the team with state TV firm RAI – one journalist and two technicians – and are thought to have picked up the bug in London.
Two tested positive in London after having covered the semi-final against Spain earlier this week.
The third was diagnosed on their return to the Coverciano training camp.
Sources said that coach Roberto Mancini and the entire squad had all received their vaccinations.

Italy will be desperate no players have contracted the virus which would force them and any close contacts to self-isolate.
As a result, they could not travel to London and have any involvement in Sunday’s final at Wembley.
Italy are already without star left-back Leonardo Spinazzola who ruptured his Achilles in the quarter-final against Belgium.
Mancini’s side booked their place in the Euros showpiece by beating Spain on penalties following a 1-1 draw.
And the Three Lions joined them after seeing off Denmark 2-1 after extra-time at the home of football.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed today that Italy – unbeaten in 33 matches dating back to 2018 – will be using the facilities at Tottenham’s training ground in preparation for the crunch game.

Digital content producer, 37, SACKED from her job after being caught on TV at Euro 2020 England V Denmark game

A DIGITAL content producer was sacked after her bosses spotted her celebrating Harry Kane’s winning extra time Euro 2020 goal on TV. Nina Farooqi found herself in hot water after cameras caught her and her friend jumping and screaming after the ball hit the back of the net.

The 37-year-old had wrapped an England flag around her and was seated right behind the goal at Wembley for the magical moment on Wednesday night as the Three Lions defeated Denmark.
But she was brought back down to earth with a bump when her boss called her the morning after to fire her for going to the historic game.
Nina, from Ilkley, Bradford, had pulled a sickie to go to the game with her pal who had won a last minute ticket in a ballot.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Nina said: “It’s mixed emotions: we’re through to the final, I’m still on that high, but I’ve also lost my job.
“My friend won the ticket in her work ballot, and knew I’d do anything to get to the game – there was no way I was going to turn it down.
“This hasn’t come around since 1996, I vividly remember crying on my mum’s sofa when Gareth Southgate missed his penalty, and the football fan in me just couldn’t do it. Football is my life.”

The huge footie fan thought that it was unlikely that her work would approve her last minute day off as they were short staffed.
She was nervous after realising that their seats were right behind the goal, but thought that in a crowd of 66,000 people she might get away with it.
But after checking her phone at half time, when England scored their equaliser, she realised that her cover had been completely blown.
Nina said: “We were all over the news, my face was on every television screen across the world – I had friends from Australia and America telling me they’d seen me.
“I was even on Stacey Dooley’s Instagram story. My phone blew up. The whole world had seen me celebrating. The rational part of me thought, ‘oh no, is this going to come back to haunt me?'”
Despite rushing back to Yorkshire on the 6am train, Nina was told not to bother coming in as the bosses at her office had spotted her.
She added: “They said they’d seen I’d been at the game, and I was honest about why I did it. But I didn’t get any sympathy at all and they said that’s it.
“That’s their call and the consequence of what I did. There is a bit of regret, no one wants to get fired, but then also I would have hated the regret of missing out. I’d do it all over again.”

Farooqi also undertakes work as a freelance photographer and video producer in men’s football and across the Women’s Super League.
She said that her friends within the footballing community have been fully supporting her since she lost her job.
Nina said: “They have all been incredible, and it will be incredible to watch the final with them on Sunday at home.”

England stars plan to donate Euro 2020 bonuses to the NHS as they could share £9.5million if they win final on Sunday

ENGLAND stars have pledged to donate their Euro bonuses to NHS charities if they win the final against Italy on Sunday.Gareth Southgate’s men, who secured their place in the historic match after beating Denmark 2-1 on Wednesday, already plan to distribute their total of £9.5million to worthwhile causes.

England have already created a number of heroes on their path to the final as the nation has once again become captivated by Southgate’s band of brothers.
Their victory on Wednesday secured their first major final since 1966 and was widely celebrated on the streets as people revelled in the euphoria.
And, as heads turn towards Sunday’s game, it is now reported that England players will support some of the nations other heroes if football does come home.
Currently, it is estimated that the Football Association would bag around £24 million if England secured a historic victory on Sunday.
Around 40 per cent of that sum goes to the 26 players in the squad and reports suggest that they have already held talks about a donation that would see the NHS receive a massive windfall.
Last May, the players confirmed that they would donate match fees to charity.
England midfielder Jordan Henderson was one of the players that made contributions to the NHS last yearCredit: AFP
It read: “Following positive discussions with the FA, the England senior men’s squad are pleased to confirm that a significant donation from their international match fees will be made to NHS Charities Together via the #PlayersTogether initiative.
“This contribution will be taken from a fund already set aside to support a variety of worthy causes using all match fees collated since September 2018.”
It comes as a remarkable gesture by players who had already made huge donations to the NHS at the height of the pandemic last year.
In April 2020, Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson and Manchester United’s Harry Maguire were two of the twenty Premier League captains that created a Players Together fund to give £4million to the NHS.
They pledged “to make a real difference in distributing funds quickly to where it is needed most in this Covid-19 crisis” – vowing to hand over cash to NHS staff, volunteers and coronavirus patients.

They were praised by ex England starts stars such as Gary Lineker and Rio Ferdinand who noted how they “proud” they were of the current crop of Three Lions talent.
Those same players are now on course for their first trophy in 55 years with the chance to make history both on and off the pitch.

ITALY will be cheered on by 1,000 fans in Sunday’s Euro 2020 final who will have been specially flown in after an agreement was reached between the UK government and Uefa. They will arrive in special charter flights from Milan and Rome after the greenlight was given by authorities – providing Covid protocols are strictly followed.

As an amber country, anyone arriving from Italy has to quarantine for ten days – or take a test to release after five – meaning the majority of Italians at Wembley on Sunday will be ex-pats.
There are around 600,000 Italians living in the UK with around 150,000 in London alone and a mad dash for tickets has already begun.
Those arriving from Italy for the final had to register their interest by midnight last night with the package costing €650 plus ticket.
They will have to show a negative Covid test on departure from Italy and they will be driven to a hotel where they will stay until they are transferred to the ground.
Officials said they would remain in their ‘bubble’ and the five charter flights taking them back will leave from Luton immediately after the game.
In a statement, the Italian FA said: “The initiative allows for travel providing a series of conditions are respected with regard to the British government’s quarantine regulations on spectators arriving from Italy.”
Meanwhile yesterday Italian media ramped up the hype ahead of the final with top-selling Gazzetta Dello Sport saying brazenly on its front page “Let’s take the crown” adding that:”Denmark spooked the home team, who needed extra time and a disputed Kane penalty to win.”

Their match report claimed England won thanks to a ”gifted penalty” before saying that on Sunday Italy needed to ”dominate the Three Lions.”
La Repubblica said: “The only mistake in a sensational match was from the referee and it’s a shame that England’s win was dampened thanks to the splash from Sterling’s dive, winning that was never there.”
While Corriere della Sera said: “England had to work hard for their win, thanks also to a dubious penalty”.

Gareth Southgate has no regrets over wild celebrations after setting up Euro 2020 final clash with Italy

But the usually ice-cool Southgate said: “I am not embarrassed about losing my head a little bit in that moment.
“The crowd were incredible in giving us that energy throughout the game and, yes, it was a special moment for all of us.”
Southgate, now preparing for Sunday’s final against the Italians, has been in charge for five years.
He added: “Yes, it’s an honour.
“Because we’re a special country. We are, historically, an incredible country and I couldn’t be prouder to be an Englishman.
“I can’t be prouder to have the chance to lead my country.

“This achievement has not totally registered as I’m not reading those front pages or tuning into those bulletins.
“But I’m noticing the journey to the stadium and the tooting of horns, the flags on the cars.
“To hear Wembley like it was against Denmark and to know how that will have been around the country…

England face superstitious Italy boss Roberto Mancini who ditched a police escort and banned colour PURPLE at Man City

ALL roads lead to Wembley for Italy and their coach Roberto Mancini on Sunday. But the deeply superstitious former Manchester City manager will probably want to take the same route he always used.

Roberto Mancini is plotting England’s downfall at WembleyCredit: Getty
Even if that means ignoring the police advice — and arriving late at the famous London venue.
That was the case when he ended City’s long wait for a trophy back in 2011 with an FA Cup final victory over Stoke.
Mancini insisted the team coach must take the same directions from their Hertfordshire base to Wembley as they had for the semi-final triumph over Manchester United.
He was told it was not possible this time as the police escort would not allow it.
So the angry Italian instructed his bus driver to break away from the cops en route — and go the tried and trusted way instead — only to run into heavy traffic.
City’s players began to worry as the minutes ticked by and they arrived with only an hour to spare — and the squad missed out on seeing their families before kick-off.
Those who worked with Mancini at the Etihad got used to his irrational superstitions during his stormy three and a half years in charge.
The former Sampdoria man would insist on arriving at games at Anfield or Goodison with less than an hour until kick-off — despite pleas from his players to give them more time.

EURO 2020 FREE BETS: GET OVER £2,000 IN NEW CUSTOMER DEALS

He famously banned the colour PURPLE around the training ground because he believed it was unlucky and would affect their performance.
One club source said: “We’d just had new tracksuits and polo shirts in purple and we lost in the first game they were worn — so that made his mind up.
“Tens of thousands of pounds worth of gear went down the drain and the kit men had to source something else.”
Mancini would often call team meetings for strange times such as 10.59 or 11.02 if it had worked in the past — and players who were a minute late would be fined.
Or what about the time when he was adamant his players should eat meatballs on their flight home from a Champions League defeat at the Bernabeu?
The post-match meal had worked well following their previous European away day — so Mancini insisted that should be on the menu again this time.
The airline would not allow it so Mancini asked his operations team to look into loading a giant pan of meatballs onto the plane.
When he was told that was not possible, he even asked if the players could take their own individual portions through the security scanners before boarding.
On another occasion he left former Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish scratching his head in his office after a game.
When a glass of wine was knocked over, Mancini dashed across and pressed two fingers into the spillage before dabbing it behind both of his ears.

The 56-year-old worked with Sven Goran Eriksson at LazioCredit: AP:Associated Press

The fact that no explanation was offered only added to the confusion.
As a good Catholic boy he would always try to attend mass, no matter where they were playing — and carried an angel with broken wings around with him.
The source said: “There were so many superstitions that he had and there was a lot of head-scratching and raised eyebrows at the time.
“He was quite eccentric looking back and that would have contributed to the way things unravelled in his final year in charge.”
The 56-year-old’s dapper look on the touchline has been widely admired throughout the Euros — yet that has not happened by accident.
During his days in Manchester, his weekly appointment to get his nails done was sacrosanct — even if it meant missing a key team meeting.
And after the disastrous FA Cup final defeat to Wigan in 2013 — in what proved to be his last game in charge — he returned to the tunnel soaking after a huge downpour.
Yet instead of fretting over his future or what had gone wrong, he ordered one of his backroom staff to go and get him a hair-dryer immediately.

Mancini has overseen a long unbeaten run with the AzzurriCredit: Getty
Not for his locks though — it was to blow dry his designer coat, which had taken a battering from the elements.
That hair-dryer went everywhere during his City reign and so, too, a white bath towel — as he insisted on a white one when he stepped out of the shower.
Mancini was, and still is, revered by City fans for ending their 35-year wait for a trophy and then leading them to the Premier League in such dramatic fashion in 2012.
Yet his relationship with his players crumbled during a fraught final 12 months in charge.
Unlike many managers, he would insist on criticising his players in public — while barely saying anything in the dressing room — with former England keeper Joe Hart often the scapegoat.
After one dismal 3-1 defeat at Southampton, he did not say a word to his squad after they came off the pitch at St Mary’s.
German defender Jerome Boateng was ordered back to the club within hours of returning to his homeland to see his wife give birth to twins.
He arrived back in time to be named on the bench for a Europa League tie — but was never brought on during the game.

Yet the media loved Mancini’s press conferences — generally because he always gave a good sound-bite and did not mind who he upset.
But also for his sense of fun — agreeing to wear a Red Nose throughout one media session to show his support for Comic Relief.
On another occasion he turned up wearing a David Platt mask as he had asked his assistant to fill in at a couple of recent press engagements.
England fans everywhere will be hoping the mask slips on Sunday.
