    Group A

    Turkey – Ozan Kabak
    Italy
Wales – Neco Williams, Harry Wilson
    Switzerland – Xherdan Shaqiri

Kabak may not be a Liverpool player by the time Euro 2020 gets underway as it’s being reported that the Reds won’t be opting to make his loan switch from Schalke a permanent deal.
Ben Woodburn is likely to miss out on Wales’ squad but Williams and Wilson are expected to join up with Gareth Bale and co as the Dragons seek to replicate their impressive showing at Euro 2016.
Shaqiri has 89 Switzerland caps under his belt already and is two goals away from becoming their joint-third top-scorer.
    Group B

    Denmark
    Finland
    Belgium
    Russia

Group B is the only group without Liverpool representation after Divock Origi was omitted from Belgium’s squad.

    Group C

    Netherlands – Gini Wijnaldum
    Ukraine
    Austria
    North Macedonia

Wijnaldum is a key figure for Netherlands and plays in a slightly different role for his country compared to what Jurgen Klopp demands.
Tasked with more attacking responsibilities, the 30-year-old has scored the same number of goals (22) in 73 international games as he has in 234 appearances for Liverpool.
Virgil van Dijk has ruled himself out of Euro 2020 as he continues his recovery from the ACL injury that ended his 2020/21 campaign extremely prematurely.
    Group D

England – Jordan Henderson, Trent Alexander-Arnold
    Croatia
    Scotland – Andy Robertson
    Czech Republic

Robertson will proudly captain Scotland in their first major tournament appearance since 1998.
Henderson is a favourite of Gareth Southgate’s and will certainly be included in England’s 26-man squad if he is deemed fit enough to participate.
In contrast, the Three Lions gaffer has never been overly keen on Alexander-Arnold and with several other options at right-back (Kyle Walker, Reece James, Kieran Trippier) Liverpool’s homegrown hero could be the most high-profile omission from England’s squad.
However, the 22-year-old is finishing the domestic season in fine form – he now has nine assists in all competitions for the Reds.
Gareth Southgate has a big decision to make regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold ahead of Euro 2020
    Group E

    Spain – Thiago Alcantara
    Sweden
    Poland
    Slovakia

With Andres Iniesta, David Silva and Cesc Febregas too long in the tooth for international football, the onus is on Thiago to provide the technical quality in the middle of the park that Spain fans have to expect.
    Group F

    Hungary
    Portugal – Diogo Jota
    France
    Germany

Like Henderson, Jota is also facing a race against time after suffering another injury setback.
The ex-Wolves forward has been one of the season’s shining lights when fit but has been repeatedly sidelined at inconvenient times.
His record for Portugal is excellent – six goals from 12 caps – and Fernando Santos will be hoping to deploy him alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in the tournament’s Group of Death.

When is the England squad for Euro 2020 getting announced? How many players can Gareth Southgate pick?

GARETH SOUTHGATE faces the toughest job in football next week – naming the England squad for Euro 2020.With the final at Wembley this summer and an expectant home crowd hoping for a big performance from the Three Lions, naming his squad is a huge step towards glory.

And there are some incredibly tough decisions to make for the man who got England to the World Cup semi-finals three years ago.
When is the England squad announcement for the Euros?
Southgate will name his England squad on Tuesday, May 25.
The deadline for all Euro 2020 squads to be named is June 1, but the Three Lions boss will have them out of the way just 48 hours after the Premier League season finishes.
The announcement is set to take place at 1pm.
How many players can international managers name in their Euro 2020 squad lists?
Each squad can have 26 players in it.
How England’s path to Euros glory could look

Uefa initially announced that there could be 23 stars in each, but because of the threat of players having to isolate due to Covid, the European governing body expanded each squad by three.
Many think that can be an advantage for England, with some serious strength in depth in certain areas, such as right-back and attacking midfield.
But other countries like France, Spain and Germany will surely feel the same way. More

Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand tips England to DROP Walker and Trippier for Euro 2020 with Alexander-Arnold and James in

RIO FERDINAND believes Gareth Southgate should pick Reece James and Trent Alexander-Arnold as England’s right backs for this summer’s Euros. The 42-year-old and fellow pundits Joe Cole and Glenn Hoddle have picked their squads for the tournament – with the ex-England boss calling for Michail Antonio to be included.
Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier were part of the England team that reached the World Cup semi-finals in 2018Credit: Darren Fletcher – The Sun
But ex-Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand wants manager Gareth Southgate to pick younger players
Explaining his decision on BT Sport, Ferdinand said: “[Kyle] Walker I think would be the unlucky one in my squad – and he’d have really good grounds to ring me up and give me a piece of his mind.
“I like youth, I want to give youth a chance.
“I’m looking ahead as well, not just this tournament. This has been a bit of a weird lead-up – I’m looking at this as almost a free hit for someone like Gareth.
“You can introduce some young players, give them experience, really expose them to what a tournament is like.”
England manager Southgate has a huge call to make on which right backs he selects for the Euros.
Two right backs are usually picked for a major tournament but Southgate opted for three at the 2018 World Cup: Kyle Walker, Kieran Trippier and Alexander-Arnold.
And there’s a good chance he may do the same again as managers are allowed to select 26 players this summer rather than the traditional 23.
But even if Southgate was to pick three right backs, he would still have to disappoint one of Walker, Trippier, James and Alexander-Arnold.

Chelsea legend Joe Cole has gone for a more predictable squad – but there’s still no room for Trippier
And reports suggest Alexander-Arnold will be the player to miss out.
Ferdinand has also called for Everton defenders Michael Keane and Ben Godfrey to be selected, even though the latter is yet to receive a senior cap.
And the Manchester United legend wants to see Borussia Dortmund youngster Jude Bellingham, Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips and Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka make the 26-man squad.
Atletico Madrid star Tripper, who is on the verge of winning LaLiga with the Spanish club, has not been selected by Cole or Hoddle either.
Both pundits have made room for Walker, James and Alexander-Arnold, though.
The biggest shock in Cole’s squad is the inclusion of Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa.
The 23-year-old has featured 26 times in the Premier League for Dean Smith’s side this season and was part of the U20 squad that won the World Cup in 2017.
Hoddle’s squad, meanwhile, is full of surprising selections – with Dean Henderson left out.

Ex-England manager Glenn Hoddle thinks Southgate should drop Dean Henderson

The 24-year-old has been in good form this season, displacing David de Gea as Manchester United’s first choice goalkeeper.
The ex-England boss has called for West Brom’s Sam Johnstone to get the nod after impressing for the relegated side.
Hoddle has also asked for West Ham star Antonio to be included, even though the player reportedly wants to play for Jamaica at the next World Cup.
The pundit told BT Sport: “This fella [Antonio] was as good as anyone in the league this year – holding the ball up, turning, getting in behind.
“The last ten minutes of a game, that’s where I’m thinking from. You put him on. You give a totally different scenario to the centre backs you’re playing against.”
Southgate is due to name his squad for the Euros on May 25, two days after the conclusion of the Premier League campaign.
Belgium, Turkey, Russia, Holland, Ukraine and Hungary have already named their selections for the tournament, due to begin on June 11.
All nations must confirm their squad by June 1.

But after playing in Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Celta Vigo, which saw Barcelona drop out of the title race, Ter Stegen has announced he will not be taking part in the Euros.
That’s because he needs to undergo crucial knee surgery later this month, requiring the whole summer to recover.
Ter Stegen revealed in an emotional social media post: “I have decided together with the medical team of the club that I will do a complementary intervention on my knee.

Alexander-Arnold set to MISS Euro 2020 with place in England squad ‘improbable’ despite strong form since March drop

LIVERPOOL right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to miss out on England’s Euro 2020 squad, it’s claimed. The report comes despite his impressive performances during the season run-in.

Southgate has a plethora of options in the right-back positionCredit: AFP
The 22-year-old defender has scored once and assisted four more in his last seven Premier League games as Jurgen Klopp’s side make a late bid for the top four places.
Among those assists was his delivery for keeper Alisson’s remarkable header against West Brom on the weekend which kept Liverpool’s Champions League hopes alive.
Alexander-Arnold’s upturn in performance has come following his omission from Gareth Southgate’s squad for the three World Cup qualifiers in March.
The Three Lions boss decided instead to go with Kyle Walker, Reece James and Kieran Trippier.
And while Alexander-Arnold has made a strong case to be selected since those games two months ago, The Athletic have reported that it remains ‘improbable’ he will land a place in the 26-man squad.
This is because Southgate is still unsure about his ability to balance his attacking qualities with the defensive solidity required.
The decision is not said to be a reflection of the Liverpool man’s talent or character, more a result of the way Southgate wants his England team to play.
After Alexander-Arnold was left out of the England squad back in March, Reds boss Klopp said: “I don’t understand it because Trent was last season and the season before that the stand-out right-back in world football. That is the truth and at an unbelievably young age too.
“I have no problem if my players get some criticism. They can get it from me, they can get it from other people, but that is the truth.

“I am a manager myself. We make decisions that other people probably do not understand.
“I respect Gareth makes his own decisions, of course, but I didn’t understand it.
“If you compare Lionel Messi with his best season ever then he is not performing now like he was in 2005 and 2006.
“But he is still the world’s best player.”
Elsewhere in the England set-up, fringe players Dean Henderson, Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish are all expected to land spots in the Euro 2020 squad.
And so is 17-year-old prodigy Jude Bellingham, who has excelled for Borussia Dortmund this season.

Jack Grealish hands England huge fitness boost as Villa chief Dean Smith gives playmaker all-clear for Euro 2020

JACK GREALISH has handed Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate a massive boost ahead of the Euros after being declared fit.Southgate names his 26-man squad on Tuesday, May 25 and will be concerned over winger Grealish’s lack of match action following his recent shin injury.

He was sidelined for three months. but Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has told Southgate his star will be fit for this summer’s showpiece.
Smith said: “I don’t pick the England squad but he will be fit enough for the Euros.
“I’m hopeful that Jack will be able to start one of our remaining two games.
“He’s pushing hard, he’s had no reaction to the injury and he’s building up those minutes.”
Grealish, 25, came through 30 minutes of Sunday’s 3-2 defeat at Crystal Palace after managing 20 minutes against Everton three days earlier.
Meanwhile, Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire said he is positive he will make the Europa League final to give Southgate a further lift.
The defender is currently on crutches and wearing a protective boot after damaging ankle ligaments just over a week ago against Villa.
But the latest update is that the 28-year-old is upbeat about making the final against Villarreal in Gdansk a week on Wednesday.

Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “When I spoke to him this morning he was positive.
“Naturally the day after he was injured everyone was very down — but we decided we had to focus and be positive and think he is going to make it.
“He is making progress but we have consciously made the decision not to test him out too early.
“Hopefully we will have good news — but I will give it as long as possible because we know his importance.
“We have known that for a long time but maybe people appreciate it more when he is not playing.”

Plans for crowds at Euro 2020 games in UK in jeopardy over Indian coronavirus variant with government ‘concerned’

SPORTS MINISTER Nigel Huddleston admits the Indian Covid variant is a threat to getting fans back into stadiums. He hailed the success of Saturday’s FA Cup Final which saw 21,000 spectators at Wembley as Leicester beat Chelsea 1-0.

Premier League grounds hope to have around 10,000 for the final two rounds of matches next week.
But the new strain of coronavirus puts plans to have fans at Euro 2020 games in the UK next month in jeopardy.
Huddleston said: “This was the biggest sporting event – in fact, this is the biggest event – in the UK for 14 months.
“The biggest gathering of over 20,000 for 14 months and that’s quite a milestone really. The fact we’ve got to this point is quite remarkable.
“We couldn’t have done it had we not felt comfortable with the roadmap, had the vaccination programme not gone well and other test events had gone well.
“So that in itself must be seen as a success. But variants are called variants of concern for a reason – they are of concern.
“There’s no doubt we are worried about them but we always would be. We want to get as many fans as possible into stadiums again.
“I’m hoping we get there, I’m hoping we’ll get to capacity crowds soon but it depends entirely on the variants of concern but it’s a goal and has been all along.

“From Monday, there’s a lot opening up and crowds and that will make such a difference.
“But opening up is one thing and opening up profitably is another. We’ve got to get the crowds up from an economic sense and we recognise that.
“The cup final is a really important signal and we wouldn’t have done this if we weren’t making progress.”
The Indian variation is now dominant in some areas of the UK – and the Government is considering further action in Bolton to stamp down on burgeoning cases as lockdown eases again tomorrow.
But Matt Hancock  said he has a ‘high degree of confidence’ that the jab does work against the new variant, which could be up to 50 per cent more transmissible than the Kent strain.
He urged Brits to remain “very vigilant” as stage three in the Prime Minister’s roadmap begins tomorrow – and said we’re in a “race” between vaccinations and the variant.
