Which Tottenham players are playing at Euro 2020? Will Harry Kane be there? Who represents England?

TOTTENHAM players are well set for a crack at the Euro 2020 title. The likes of Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris and Toby Alderweireld will all fancy their chances ahead of this summer’s tournament.
Harry Kane should lead the line for England this summerCredit: Getty
And there are plenty of Spurs stars fighting to earn their place in the Spanish, Welsh and Dutch squads.
Here, SunSport takes a closer look at which Tottenham players could play at Euro 2020.
    Group A
TurkeyItalyWales – Gareth Bale, Joe RodonSwitzerland
Robert Page is certain to build his team around Bale as the dynamic forward draws closer to his 100th cap.
Fitness is the only likely obstacle to the 31-year-old’s inclusion while centre-back Rodon has made himself a regular in the Welsh backline.
    Group B
    Denmark – Pierre-Emile HojbjergFinlandBelgium – Toby AlderweireldRussia
The second matchday of Group B sees Hojbjerg’s Denmark host Alderweireld’s Belgium in Copenhagen.
Roberto Martinez has already named his squad, featuring the Spurs defender, while his club team-mate should take his place in the heart of the Danish midfield.
    Group C
    Netherlands – Steven BergwijnUkraineAustriaNorth Macedonia
Dutch winger Bergwijn has made Frank de Boer’s preliminary 34-man squad for the championship but faces a fight with Memphis Depay, Donyell Malen and Steven Berghuis for a starting spot.

    Group D
England – Harry Winks, Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Dele AlliCroatiaScotlandCzech Republic
Tottenham could be well represented in the Three Lions contingent this summer but it’s not inconceivable that only Kane makes the final cut.
The club’s top scorer will captain England with Gareth Southgate due to announce his squad in the next week-and-a-half.
However, there are doubts over whether the striker will actually be a Spurs player by the time the tournament kicks off.
Eric Dier and Harry Winks have been consistent fixtures in England squads of late but are at threat of missing out for more in-form players.
Dele Alli is back in the Tottenham side under Ryan Mason but it’s surely come too late for this call-up.
How England’s path to Euros glory could look
    Group E
    Spain – Sergio ReguilonSwedenPolandSlovakia
A solid first season in North London has put Reguilon in a good position to be considered by Luis Enrique.
However, Barcelona star Jordi Alba, Valencia’s Jose Gaya, Marc Cucurella of Getafe and Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso means competition is tight and he could well miss out.
    Group F
HungaryPortugalFrance – Hugo Lloris, Moussa Sissoko, Tanguy NdombeleGermany
Lloris became the first Tottenham player in a long while to lift a major trophy when captaining France to World Cup glory in 2018.
The goalkeeper was not joined by midfielders Sissoko or Ndombele in that squad.
On the standby list for that tournament, the 67-capped Sissoko is back in Didier Deschamps’ plans and Ndombele has also staked a reasonable claim.

What did Karim Benzema say about Olivier Giroud, why didn’t he play for France and who has most international goals?

THERE appeared to be no love lost between French strikers Karim Benzema and Olivier Giroud.Les Bleus won the World Cup in 2018 with then-Arsenal forward Giroud playing a key part, even if he didn’t net during the tournament.
Karim Benzema had some choice words for Olivier GiroudCredit: AFP or licensors
But in a live chat on his Instagram, Benzema was less than complimentary about his fellow French striker.
Why didn’t Benzema play for France?
BENZEMA is in line for a sensational return to the international fold.
The Real ace has not played for France in five years after becoming involved in an alleged blackmail sextape plot involving teammate Mathieu Valbuena.
At Euro 2016, Giroud was targeted by booing French fans and spoke out after being jeered during the Championship on home soil.
Speaking to Le Parisien, he said: “I immediately realised that the people who booed me were not anti-Giroud, but pro-Benzema.
“It could not be otherwise. I came from a great season with Arsenal. It was just disappointing.
“Yes, it annoyed me. I was not even remotely responsible for this story and I did not understand the kind of hatred that developed against me.”

In November 2019, France Football Federation president Noel le Graet had seemingly ended any hopes of a recall for the French ace.
He said: “For me, Benzema is a very good player. I have never criticised his qualities.
“On the contrary, he is proving again this year at Madrid that he is one of the best players in his position.
“But the adventure with France is over.”
What did Benzema say about Giroud?
DURING his revealing online chat in early 2020, Benzema was asked how he rated fellow centre-forward Giroud.
    He replied: “This won’t take long. You don’t confuse F1 with go-karting. And I’m being kind. Next… and I know I’m F1.
“It works because he’s there. That’s all. It’s not going to be spectacular, it’s not going to be anything crazy but in his way you see more of Griezmann or Mbappe because he will put the work in.
“Does everyone like that way of playing? I don’t know.”
Benzema doubled down on his scathing assessment later on March 30, 2020 stating he was ‘telling the truth’.
He continued: “About Giroud, I simply told the truth.
“But we didn’t remember what I said about him, especially about what he brings to the French national team.
“We just remembered the moment when I said I was F1 and he was karting. That’s what I think, that’s the truth, and that’s how it is.”

Who has the most goals for France?
IN Benzema’s stead, Giroud has emerged as Didier Deschamps’ go-to striker.
The Chelsea striker has earned 107 caps for the world champions, netting 44 times.
His last goal came in a 3-1 win over Sweden back in November.
Only Thierry Hnery (51) has more goals for France.
While Benzema has played 81 times for his country, the last of which came in 2015.
He has netted 27 goals for Les Bleus. More

Karim Benzema to land sensational France recall for Euro 2020 after Deschamps exile – FIVE YEARS after last call-up

KARIM BENZEMA will play for France at the Euros, according to reports.Only a week ago Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps killed any hope the Real Madrid striker had of ending his FIVE-YEAR exile and said: “I’m not Santa Claus.”

But in a shock turn of events, the 33-year-old will be back in the side, according to high-profile football journalist Julien Laurens.
He tweeted: “It’s now confirmed by different sources: Karim Benzema WILL be in France’s squad for the Euros this summer.
“More than five years after his last cap, Deschamps will call him back. Wow!!!!!”
The former Lyon man hasn’t played for the reigning world champions since 2015 following his alleged role in a plot to blackmail Mathieu Valbuena – a claim he denies.
Benzema is alleged to have been involved in a plan to blackmail the winger over an X-rated video on his mobile phone.
The striker is claimed to have acted as a middle-man, convincing Valbuena to deal with the blackmailers himself – with the now-Olympiacos man, 36, instead going to police.
Benzema’s lawyer, Sylvain Cormier, maintained the striker’s innocence in 2015, saying: “He played no part, I repeat no part, in any blackmail or attempted blackmail.”
The forward will reportedly go on trial in October, and many – including Arsenal legend and fellow Frenchman Arsene Wenger – had called for him to be recalled to the national team for Euro 2020.

But Deschamps was quick to quash such suggestions in an interview with Kicker.
Asked if he had any plans to include Benzema in his squad, the 52-year-old said: “I am not Santa Claus, I am not here to announce surprises.
“I am refining it little by little, I have players who, like [Corentin] Tolisso at Bayern, are still recovering, and I still do not have all the information about their status.
“I will release my list of players on May 18, but there will also be games after that. I will have players who will participate in the two finals of the European Cups.
“We have to hope that everything goes well, because unfortunately we cannot avoid the unexpected.
“The only list that matters is the one we send to Uefa on June 1 at midnight.”

Earlier this month, Rio Ferdinand revealed Sir Alex Ferguson was so desperate to sign Benzema he had to be pulled away from him.
The legendary Manchester United boss approached the Real Madrid striker when he was still at Lyon and officials from the Ligue 1 side were forced to intervene.
Should Benzema be included, he is likely to be a popular pick for players of The Sun’s Dream Team Euros fantasy football game.

But the Welsh FA said the UK Foreign Office has issued advice to urge Welsh fans, known as the Red Wall, to stay at home for the tournament.
It is a blow for Robert Page’s side, who also take on Turkey in the Azerbaijan capital.
Wales complete their Euro 2020 group stage with a game against Italy in Rome on June 20.
Azerbaijan and Italy are both currently on the UK’s amber list for international travel.
A Welsh FA statement read: “[We have] been liaising with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) of the UK Government concerning Cymru’s Euro 2020 matches in Baku, Azerbaijan on 12 & 16 June and the game in Rome, Italy on 20 June 2021.
“Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the FCDO has issued advice warning Cymru fans not to travel to Baku or Rome as Azerbaijan and Italy are on the UK Government’s Amber list.”
The FCDO are taking a cautious approach and have advised against all but essential travel to amber countries.
This plan of action is to prevent new Covid-19 variants from entering the UK.

And there are some incredibly tough decisions to make for the man who got England to the World Cup semi-finals three years ago.
When is the England squad announcement for the Euros?
Southgate will name his England squad on Tuesday, May 25.
The deadline for all Euro 2020 squads to be named is June 1, but the Three Lions boss will have them out of the way just 48 hours after the Premier League season finishes.
The announcement is set to take place at 1pm.
How many players can international managers name in their Euro 2020 squad lists?
Each squad can have 26 players in it.
How England’s path to Euros glory could look

Uefa initially announced that there could be 23 stars in each, but because of the threat of players having to isolate due to Covid, the European governing body expanded each squad by three.
Many think that can be an advantage for England, with some serious strength in depth in certain areas, such as right-back and attacking midfield.
But other countries like France, Spain and Germany will surely feel the same way. More
