Why aren’t any Euro 2020 games being played at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium?

THE Aviva Stadium in Dublin will no longer host a game at this summer’s European Championships.Four games were originally scheduled to be hosted at the venue in Dublin but the ground has been dropped by Uefa.
Dublin is the first city to have matches moved due to the Coronavirus

The Irish government couldn’t guarantee the ground would be able to be at a quarter capacity for the scheduled games due to the Coronavirus situation in the country.
Uefa requires host cities to fill their stadiums to a quarter of their full capacity, but the 51,700 seater Aviva Stadium will not be able to do so.

What games was the Aviva Stadium scheduled to host?

    Group E: Poland vs Slovakia
    Groupe E: Sweden vs Slovakia
    Group E: Sweden vs Poland
    Last-Sixteen: Group D winner vs Group F runner-up

Three group stage games have instead been moved to St. Petersburg in Russia, while one last-sixteen game scheduled for Dublin will now be played at Wembley.
The Krestovsky Stadium in Russia will now hold three extra games
Wembley could now host England’s last sixteen clash
The winners of Group D, which includes England, will feature in the relocated last-sixteen clash.
They will play against the runners-up of Group F on the 29 June at Wembley, instead of the Aviva.
Eleven cities will host football games at this summer’s Euros in a special one-off event to mark the 60th anniversary of the first tournament taking place.

Who are the eleven host cities for Euro 2020?

    Amsterdam Arena – Amsterdam
    Olympic Stadium – Baku
    Arena Nationala – Bucharest
    Puskas Arena – Budapest
    Parken Stadium – Copenhagen
    Hampden Park – Glasgow
    Wembley Stadium- London
    Allianz Arena – Munich
    Stadio Olimpico – Rome
    La Cartuja – Seville
    Krestovksy Stadium – St. Petersburg

    The European Championships trophy

It’s not the first city to rule itself out of hosting games for the delayed 2020 tournament.
Last month Uefa announced that the games scheduled to be hosted in the Spanish city of Bilbao would be moved to Seville with the Royal Spanish Football Federation making the decision to move venues due to the pandemic.
The tournament is scheduled to get underway on the 11 June at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome as Turkey take on Italy in Group A.

He bounced back from that setback with a string of impressive displays for the Reds to help them secure Champions League qualification.
His chances of earning an international recall for the showpiece were boosted even further when Uefa ruled teams could choose 26 players instead of 23 for the tournament.
Now The Athletic reports he is set to miss out and there has been no contact between England boss Southgate or anyone in his camp and Alexander-Arnold.
However, it does state there is still time for that to happen ahead of the squad announcement tomorrow.
Back in March, Southgate explained he left out the star as he had not ‘hit that level he’s hit with Liverpool for England’.
He has 12 caps for his country, completing 90 minutes just four times, but starting ten of them.
Discussing his youngster’s England axe back in March, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said: “I didn’t understand it because Trent Alexander-Arnold was in the last two seasons at least – let me say the season before and the season before that – the stand-out right-back in world football.
“That is the truth and he did it at an unbelievable young age. He was the stand-out right-back in world football.

“If Alexander-Arnold is not in the squad of England then England must have an extremely good squad, let me say it like this.
“As a summary, I respect the decision, of course I do, but I didn’t understand it.”
England kick off their Euro 2020 campaign against Croatia on June 13 before facing Scotland and Czech Republic in the group stage.

The Real Madrid star started nine out of the ten qualifying matches and has helped his country European Championship success twice as well as World Cup glory in 2010.
But he will not have the opportunity to try and help them to more silverware next month following his injury-riddled campaign.
Ramos only managed 21 appearances in all competitions for Los Blancos and has paid the price for his lack of fitness.
And amazingly it is the first time EVER that no Madrid player has been included in a Spanish squad for a major tournament.
Luis Enrique said: “It was a very difficult decision but Ramos has not been able to compete or train very much recently.
“I would have liked Ramos to be in the squad but I did not think it was viable because he has practically been unable to compete.”
Ramos tweeted: “After a tough few months and a strange season unlike anything I have experienced in my career comes the Euros.
“I have fought and worked every day, in body and soul, to be able to reach 100 per cent for Real Madrid and the national team but things don’t always work out the way we’d like.

SPAIN’S EURO 2020 SQUADHere’s the list of players chosen by Luis Enrique:
Goalkeepers: David de Gea, Robert Sanchez, Unai Simon
Defenders: Aymeric Laporte, Jose Gaya, Jordi Alba, Pau Torres, Eric Garcia, Diego Llorente, Cesar Azpilicueta
Midfielders: Marcos Llorente, Sergio Busquets, Rodri, Pedri, Thiago, Koke, Fabian
Forwards: Dani Olmo, Mikel Oyarzabal, Gerard Moreno, Alvaro Morata, Ferran Torres, Adama Traore, Pablo Sarabia

“It pains me not to have been able to help my team more and not to play for Spain but, in this case, the best thing to do is rest, fully recover and come back next year like we’ve always done. It hurts not to represent your country, but I have to be honest and sincere.”
Manchester City defender Eric Garcia, 20, has been named in the squad.
That is despite him only starting ONE Premier League game for Pep Guardiola’s champions.
He is joined by his Cityzens team-mate Aymeric Laporte.
The star is called-up after recently switching his international allegiance from France to Spain earlier this month.

The Spain boss added: “Any decision I made about Sergio Ramos would have been controversial.
“I know where I am, and accept there will be noise from the media.
“The Aymeric Laporte decision has nothing to do with the Ramos situation. [Ramos] is a top player, can help our national team a lot, plays at one of the best clubs in history.
“Please don’t mix Ramos not being in the squad with call-ups for others. I’d have liked him to be here, to have recovered.”
Luis Enrique had the chance to name 26 players after Uefa changed its rules on squad numbers.
However, he decided to only name 24 men instead for the showpiece.
Spain face Sweden in their Euro group opener on June 14.
They take on Poland five days later before concluding it on June 23 against Slovakia.
