Does Euro 2020 have a third-fourth place playoff in the group stages?

According to reports, Euros matches at Wembley are likely to be at full capacity.
Wembley could be a full house for when England meet Scotland in the group stages on 18 June.
Does Euro 2020 have a third-fourth place playoff in the group stages?
No. Euro 2020 does not have a third-fourth place playoff in the group stages of the competition.
And this is largely due to the procedures Uefa follow in order to rank teams as the group stages progress.
All of the qualified 24 teams are split up into six groups of four, and the top two qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament.
Four of the best 3rd placed teams will join them in the next stage as well.
However, in the event of two or more teams finishing level on points, goal difference will decide who finishes higher up in the table.
And if goal difference cannot separate the two or more sides, Points in head-to-head matches among tied teams will decide.

The likes of Jordan Henderson, Harry Maguire, and Kalvin Phillips are all being assessed for injuries in the following days, with the England gaffer choosing to delay the definitive 26-man squad selection until June 1.
Several star players have split with their WAGs since the ladies stole the show from the stands at the 2018 World Cup.
That includes pandemic hero Marcus Rashford, who recently parted ways with Lucia Loi citing lockdown strains after eight years together.
So which WAGs will be supporting their footballing fellas all the way to the final at Wembley at this year’s Euros?
    Megan Davison (Jordan Pickford)
Everton Keeper Jordan Pickford married childhood sweetheart Megan Davison in March last year.
Jordan, 27, and 24-year-old Megan had their plans for a lavish Maldives wedding scuppered by the pandemic.

Fern is believed to follow in Harry’s sporty interests by holding a First Class degree in Physiotherapy.
He popped the question during a romantic trip to Paris in 2018 and they’ve since had two daughters, Lillie Saint and Piper Rose.
The proud mum loves sharing snaps of their idyllic family life together with her 46,000 followers on Instagram.
    Chloe Wealleans-Watts (Mason Mount)

When the elderly supporter tried to set Mount up with her granddaughter, he laughed and replied: “I don’t think my girlfriend would be too happy.”
Undeterred, she advised him to “play the field”.
    Kate Kane (Harry Kane)
Fitness instructor Kate has been with the current England captain since their school days.
Premier League Golden Boot winner Kane proposed to her on a 2017 trip to the Bahamas before tying the knot two years ago.
Kate and Harry have three kids together and got married in 2019
The happy couple are parents to two girls, Ivy and Vivienne Jane, and son Louis, who was born in December.
Kate recently revealed on Instagram that she’d turned to “hypnobirthing” during all of her labours.

    Charlotte Trippier (Kieran Trippier)
Charlotte Trippier was spotted cheering on hubby Kieran from the sidelines during the 2018 World Cup.
The couple married in Cyprus in the summer of 2016 after their original plan to wed in St Lucia was scuppered by an outbreak of the Zika virus.
Charlotte Trippier has been married to Atletico star Kieran for five years
Later that year they had a son, Jacob, and have since had a daughter.
While keeping out of the limelight, Charlotte posted on Instagram to say she was a “proud wife” after hubby Kieran clinched the La Liga title with Atletico Madrid at the weekend.
    Ellie Alderson (Ollie Watkins)
Interior designer Ellie Alderson certainly has an eye for style.
She’s reportedly been with Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins since 2018, and they’ve stayed together through his rise to the national squad.

    Lauren Fryer (Declan Rice)
West Ham defender Declan Rice is thought to be with Lauren Fryer.
Fryer originally hails from Chessington, Greater London, the Daily Star reports.

    Rebecca Cooke (Phil Foden)
Phil Foden became a dad for the first time when he was just 18 as partner Rebecca Cooke gave birth to their son, Ronnie, in 2019.

Phil Foden’s partner Rebecca Cooke is also the mum to his son and is pregnant with a daughter
They live together in a £3.25million mansion in Prestbury, Cheshire.

    Anouska Santos (Luke Shaw)

    Ashleigh Behan (Kalvin Phillips)

She also enjoyed wild promotion celebrations with the Leeds United midfielder when they returned to the Premier League last summer.

    Rebecca Burnett (Jordan Henderson)

Despite being present at games supporting her hubby, little is known about Rebecca as she’s kept out of the spotlight.

Amie Coady is the wife of Wolves centre-back Conor Coady and they have three kids together called Henri, Freddie and Louie.

UNCAPPED Ben White and Ben Godfrey have been named in England’s provisional Euro 2020 squad – but Eric Dier has been axed after a dismal season with Tottenham.Brighton defender White and Everton’s Godfrey are part of a 33-man group chosen by boss Gareth Southgate, but Dier is the biggest casualty.

Jesse Lingard, Jude Bellingham and Mason Greenwood will all report for duty this weekend but there is no place for Southampton striker Danny Ings.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has been included as one of four right-backs, and in goal Sheffield United’s Aaron Ramsdale will also train with the senior squad with Nick Pope missing out through injury.
Southgate has also drafted Jordan Henderson in despite not playing for three months, and Kalvin Phillips is fit to link up despite injuring his shoulder in the final game of the season for Leeds.
Leicester City star James Maddison has also missed out despite his stunning form for the FA Cup winners.
Meanwhile, Dele Alli did not make it after struggling to even make the Spurs starting XI during this campaign.
With 12 players involved in the Europa League and Champions League finals this week there was no way the England boss was going to be able to settle on his actual squad this week.
Instead those not involved with Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United will report on Saturday for training ahead of the friendly against Austria on June 2.
Southgate has to whittle his final squad down to 26 to submit to Uefa on June 1 – but there is the chance to replace anyone who gets injured or falls ill up until 24 hours before their opening game against Croatia.
So there is every chance some will figure at least in the Austria warm-up game who already know they have not made the final cut for the tournament, being placed on the stand-by list in case of any late pull-outs.
BETTING SPECIAL – GET ENGLAND TO WIN EURO 2020 AND HARRY KANE TO BE TOP SCORER AT 22/1
How England’s path to Euros glory could look

Uefa ruled earlier this month that teams could choose 26 players instead of 23 for the tournament.
He will announce his final 26-man squad for the tournament on Tuesday 1 June.
Southgate said: “There are 12 players still to play so we’re always going to need additional players and added to that we have some injuries at different stages, that we have very little info about.
“We felt more time will help us make better decisions.
“Our preference was to name the 26, but we have not got an ideal hand of cards – a lot of unknowns. Info and evidence are very important and we will have a lot more in the next seven days.
When quizzed on Alexander-Arnold’s recall, the boss said: “You’re looking at four right-backs, I just see four good footballers.
“Kieran Trippier can play at left-back. Alexander-Arnold can play at wing-back, I think he can play midfield.
“I’ve seen Reece James play on the right side of a back three, at wing-back and as a midfielder. Those flexible players who can fulfil different roles will be hugely important.”
Trent Alexander-Arnold was included by Gareth SouthgateCredit: PA
On Godfrey and White’s inclusions, Southgate added: “They are both exciting young defenders.
“They are flexible, they play in different roles, this is a great opportunity to get to know them a bit better and for them to work with the team.
“There is no way of knowing how long they will be with us at this stage but it should be a fantastic experience for them.”
Discussing the decision to axe Dier, Southgate said: “Unfortunately I just don’t think his season has been long enough to be in the squad and that is a difficult call because I know how much he brings to the whole group.
“When you are at a tournament the players who put the team first are critical. It wasn’t an easy conversation but he is an outstanding professional and took the news in a professional way.”
England take Austria on June 2 and Romania four days later as pre-tournament warm-ups with both games at Middlesbrough.
The Three Lions England kick off their Euro 2020 campaign against Croatia on June 13 before facing Scotland and Czech Republic in the group stage.

Footballer of the Year Ruben Dias is Europe’s most-popular defender ahead of Euro 2020

Defending is cool again.Following on from Virgil van Dijk’s PFA Player of the Year win 2018/19, Ruben Dias has been named FWA Footballer of the Year for this season after a sustained period of domination at centre-back.
Two defensive winners in three years may not seem like much of a trend but it’s notable given the last defender to win either of the top individual awards on these shores before Van Dijk was John Terry in 2004/05.
And the last defender to claim the FWA’s gong before Dias was Steve Nicol in 1988/89.

WIN £50,000! Play Dream Team Euros – our FREE fantasy football game this summer

Man City’s Portuguese contingent have enjoyed themselves this season
The Portuguese’s triumph was something of a celebratory throwback to no-nonsense defending.
In an age when defenders are required to be as comfortable in possession as midfielders, Dias set himself apart through merciless defending: headers, blocks, tackles, clearances.
For all the technical ability in Man City’s ranks, it was their most courageous player – one who has mastered controlled aggression – who has been singled out for recognition.
And here’s where we can draw parallels between club football and the international stage.
Portugal are in good shape to mount a defence of their European crown this summer with an array of attacking talent: Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Diogo Jota, Joao Felix, Andre Silva, Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, Dias could well be their most important player as the most in-form defender in Europe.

Pepe and Jose Fonte have also been included in Fernandes Santos’ 26-man squad for Euro 2020 but they have a combined age of 75.
The former proved he is still capable of heroic backs-to-the-wall penalty box defending earlier this season when Porto repelled Juventus in a memorable Champions League knockout tie while the latter was instrumental in Lille pipping PSG to the Ligue 1 title.
It’s possible we could see the two experienced heads rotate alongside Dias for the duration of the tournament.

At the time of writing, the Man City rock is the most-popular defender available in Dream Team Euros.
His ownership of 39.9% makes him three times more popular than Toby Alderweireld – which is remarkable when you consider the different tasks facing Portugal and Belgium in the groups stages of Euro 2020.
Dias and co are members of the tournament’s Group of Death alongside France, Germany and Hungary while Roberto Martinez will be expecting to top Group B ahead of Denmark, Finland and Russia.
It’s a testament to Dias’ efforts for City this season that so many Dream Team Euros bosses are backing him in the face of arguably the toughest fixture schedule this summer.
Although it is worth noting that Portugal take on Hungary in their opener so even if you aren’t sure how the rest of Group F will play out, Dias and his team-mate Joao Cancelo seem like very good options for the opening week at least.
Remember, you have 20 transfers to last the tournament’s duration.

But Rashford, who will be named in Gareth Southgate’s 26-man England squad today, is confident of going further at the Euro finals.
The Manchester United striker, 23, said: “We’ve got a good chance. The talent and ability in the team is as high as I have seen it.
“A lot of it is down to self-belief. I was speaking to some of the players and I think the only thing that stopped us last time was entering that element of the unknown.
“We hadn’t been that far as a team before and we didn’t know what to expect…I feel like we’ve learnt from those experiences, plus we’ve got a few new talented faces in the squad.

Securing top spot in the group will see the Three Lions remain at Wembley for the last 16 tie.

“To play so many games at our home stadium and hopefully in front of our home fans – that’s just not going to happen again. So everyone is excited and ready.
“The main thing is to get yourself physically prepared because it’s tough – you play so many games during the season and then the tournament comes straight after.
“It’s something I’m so excited for and I believe in what the manager, the staff and the players can do.”

And there are some incredibly tough decisions to make for the man who got England to the World Cup semi-finals three years ago.
But there has been a change of plan – Southgate will only name a PROVISIONAL squad for the Euros on Tuesday, May 25.
When will Gareth Southgate name his FINAL England squad for the Euros?
Southgate will name his England squad on Tuesday, June 1.
The deadline for all Euro 2020 squads to be named is that same day.
The announcement is set to take place at 1pm.
Why has Southgate delayed his final announcement?
Because there are so many England players involved in the Europa League final on May 26 and Champions League final on May 29.
Here are all the England regulars involved in both matches:
    CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL
Chelsea: Ben Chilwell, Reece James, Mason Mount.
Manchester City: Kyle Walker, John Stones, Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling.
    EUROPA LEAGUE FINAL
Manchester United: Dean Henderson, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood.
How many players can international managers name in their Euro 2020 squad lists?
Each squad can have 26 players in it.
