Maguire injury return LATEST, Denmark and Romania release extra tickets, Mbappe and Giroud public spat – Euro 2020 LIVE

EURO 2020 is finally here!Kylian Mbappe was reportedly left fuming after Olivier Giroud publicly criticised him for failing to pass.
The PSG star was so angry with the Champions League winner’s comments after the friendly with Bulgaria that he reportedly wanted to call a press conference to explain his point of view.
And things didn’t turn out much better for France’s other striker Karim Benzema, who went off injured.
Meanwhile Denmark and Romania are set to announce an increase in the number of fans that can attend their Euro 2020 games – to 65 and 50 per cent respectively.
And we’ve got the very latest on star defender Harry Maguire’s injury comeback for England.

Follow all of the latest news, build up and updates below…
    NOT KEANE
Manchester United hero Roy Keane doesn’t believe Tottenham star Harry Kane possesses the necessary traits to be the England captain.
Keane told SkyBet: “The only thing I’d hold against Kane – there’s a big negative I have towards Kane.
“I think Kane is an amazing player. I think every club should be trying to sign him. Man United have got to sign him, I don’t care if it’s £120million – sign him.
“But I don’t think he’s a good leader. I never see him digging anyone out when he was at Spurs. I know people might go, ‘Well that’s not in his personality’, or ‘He might do it in the dressing room’. I don’t think he does, and that’s a big problem.
“OK, you can lead with your brilliant play, but sometimes I think I want to see another side to Kane.
“I’d love to see him get hold of somebody, and I’m on about Spurs – some players have been really poor or downing tools for certain managers. I never saw Kane digging them out. So that’s my only hang-up with Kane as a leader and a captain”
    HE KAN GO
Tottenham hero Glenn Hoddle believes his former club may decide to cash in on England captain Harry Kane but doesn’t expect anyone to “cough up” £150million.
Kane is likely to leave Spurs in the summer and has been linked with a move to Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea.
Hoddle told the Daily Mirror: “I don’t think anyone’s going to cough up £150million, I think they could cough up £100million plus two players, if it’s Manchester City, Manchester United, whoever.
“That deal isn’t an easy done and dusted deal when you’ve got three years left on your contract; he might still be at Tottenham.
“Then again, Tottenham may feel he’s 28 in the summer and might think, ‘We’ve got to cash in now’, because when he’s 29 and going to the World Cup [next year], they’re not going to have that kind of offer.
“As a Spurs man, I hope he doesn’t go, but if he does go, I wish him well”
    JUST A COLE AWAY
Chelsea and England ace Reece James revealed that he speaks with legendary full-back Ashley Cole “nearly every week” as the former Blues and Arsenal defender helps in his progress.
James said: “When I was young I wasn’t always a right back.
“I was a striker. But I’ve always looked up to Frank Lampard because he played for the club I supported, Ashley Cole similar.
“So I’ve always supported the boys who played for the team I supported.
“[With Cole], we speak nearly every week. He’s probably one of the best left-backs to play the game.
“Even though he was a left-back the position is basically the same, just on the opposite side. He helps me a lot progressing”
    SUPER IDOL
England international Ben White admits he looks up to Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, amid reports suggesting he is being targeted by the Red Devils as well as Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool.
White said during the Three Lions’ media day: “I think it is a little bit of everyone, trying to pick little bits out of each defender.
“Obviously watching the Premier League every week you can see the different types of players and pick different things out of each player.
“Rio Ferdinand, that was the one for me”
    GO FOR IT
Former Scotland manager Gordon Strachan believes his national team will be tough to beat at Euro 2020 and can go into the tournament with plenty of confidence.
Strachan wrote in his column at the Daily Mail: “Scotland can approach this tournament with confidence. Yes, we are all thrilled to be there after waiting so long but that doesn’t mean we are just there to be brushed aside.
“This is a good group of Scottish players. Good attitude, good personality and they have courage too. Most importantly, there are some very good players in there.
“We don’t have loads of goals up front so Steve Clarke will make us hard to beat. I am sure of that and it will be our biggest asset”
    GETTY IMAGES
    BARNES MESSAGE
Liverpool and England legend John Barnes claims Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate “doesn’t understand how complex racism is” as he responded to the head coach’s recent comments about taking the knee.
Barnes tweeted: “Of course he should support his players… but what does HE think… forget the players… that’s what an ally is… someone who believes HE’S doing the right thing, not one who follows the crowd, as the crowd may change direction.”
In another comment, the former midfielder said: “I’m 100% behind Gareth to try to win the euros but he doesn’t understand how complex racism is and solutions are even more complicated and he and the team are being used by the system to DEFLECT from REAL inequality in the inner cities by SOLELY focusing and concentrating on football.”
England have decided to take the knee before all of their matches in Euro 2020
    SANCHO REACTS
Borussia Dortmund ace Jadon Sancho claims he doesn’t pay attention to transfer rumours amid reports suggesting Manchester United are trying to sign him.
Sancho is currently preparing for Euro 2020 with England and suggested he doesn’t worry about which club he will be playing for after the tournament.
Sancho told talkSPORT: “I don’t really look at it [the speculation]. During the season, I always focus on myself & the team.
“That’s the most important thing we can do and every time I’m on the pitch I always give it my all, obviously trying to create what I do on the pitch and that’s with goals and assists. That’s what I really try to do, work hard for the team.
“[The noise] is part of the game. Fans are always going to be excited for major tournaments, so that’s normal. As a young kid growing up and watching these major tournaments, I was excited as well.
“All the lads should be excited, these tournaments don’t come around often, so you have to take your moment and when you do get your opportunity on the pitch, you have to take it”
    NO KNEE-D
Scotland have decided against taking the knee during the upcoming Euro 2020 competition but will continue to stand up to racism.
Steve Clarke’s squad, and England’s Group D opponents, switched from kneeling before kick-off to standing before their World Cup qualifiers in March.
Clarke claimed the impact of the kneeling gesture had become “maybe a little bit diluted”.
Scotland captain and Liverpool star Andy Robertson, however, insists the team’s effort to helping eradicate discrimination is in no way diminished.
Robertson said: “It is important we continue to tackle the issue of racism and raise awareness of the need to change people’s mindsets but also their behaviours.
“Prior to our World Cup qualifiers in March we spoke as a group and felt that taking a stand was the best way for us to show solidarity and also to reinforce the need for meaningful change in society”
    GREAT SCOTT
Manchester City great Joleon Lescott believes Manchester United star Harry Maguire is very important for England as “the gap between his level and the other defenders is quite a lot”.
Lescott told 101 Great Goals: “I think he is really important to be fair.
“I think the gap between his level and the other defenders is quite a lot. In terms of consistency, he’s up there with anyone in the league.
“He has an air of confidence that you should have when you play for a top team. He will also have a good partnership with Luke Shaw”
    MAGUIRE BOOST
Manchester United ace Harry Maguire has returned to England training on the eve of Euro 2020 and has given the Three Lions a major boost before their tournament opener.
Maguire linked up with the rest of the team for practice as he continues his recovery from an ankle ligament injury.
The centre-back missed United’s Europa League Final against Villarreal, who won on penalties, due to his ongoing knock.
However, the 28-year-old defender has handed Southgate a significant injury boost ahead of Sunday’s opener with Croatia

    WEMBLEY UPDATE
Wembley could be half full for the Euro 2020 knockout stages, according to plans being discussed by the Football Association and the government.
That is according to BBC Sport, who report that talks are ongoing regarding 40,000 fans being allowed in regardless of whether the easing of current restrictions is delayed.
The historic stadium will host all of England’s matches in the group stage against Croatia, Scotland and the Czech Republic as well as two last-16 ties, both semi-finals and the final
Fans attending The Three Lions’ group stage games at Wembley will be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative test before entry.
    ENGLAND OPTIMISM
Chelsea ace Reece James believes England have what it takes to go all the way.
James told PA: “I think now is probably the best chance we’ve ever had to achieve something so big in the tournament.
“We’ve got so many great players and so many players that have won titles and won many major honours.
“I think we definitely have a good enough team to go all the way in this tournament and I don’t see why we can’t.”
    SOUTHGATE PLANS
Arsenal legend Lee Dixon said he’s been in direct contact with England manager Gareth Southgate and claims he may start four full-backs in defence against Croatia on Sunday.
Dixon believes Southgate will play with a 3-4-3 formation that would see Ben Chilwell on the left and Kieran Trippier on the right flank, while Luke Shaw and Kyle Walker will team up with John Stones at the back.
The Gunners hero told talkSPORT: “He wants to be protective of the goal a little bit more.
“Luke Shaw on that side has popped up a couple of times and he’s played there for Man United.
“I know he’s not been playing with a three at the back because he’s trying to give people minutes but I think he will go down that road – Shaw is certainly in the mix for that”
    TOP POG
Manchester United have opened talks with Paul Pogba’s representatives over a new deal.
According to Sky Sports, United are keen on holding on to Pogba with a fresh contract.
The star midfielder’s deal with the Red Devils expires next year in June and thus he will be allowed to negotiate with clubs outside the Premier League from January.
The 28-year-old is currently gearing up for Euro 2020 with France

    FAN-TASTIC
Euro co-hosts Denmark will allow up to 65 per cent capacity for their matches at Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium.
Romania’s National Arena in Bucharest will also be 50 per cent full in the summer’s competition.
To be more specific, Parken in Copenhagen will let in 25,000 spectators up from 15,900 that was initially planned.
And there will be up to 27,000 fans in attendance for games in Bucharest
    FRENCH AFFAIR
France stars Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud appear to have been embroiled in a public spat just a day before Euro 2020 kicks off.
It all started in the Tricolores’ last warm-up game against Bulgaria where Giroud was not impressed with his service after coming on as a substitute, particularly from Mbappe.
The Chelsea striker said after the game: “Sometimes you make the runs and the ball is not arriving. Perhaps we could have found each other better, there it is.”
According to L’Equipe, the ex-Arsenal ace’s comments angered the Paris Saint-Germain superstar so much that he was ready to issue a public response to clear the air
    BENZ IT LIKE KARIM
Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema looks likely to compete at Euro 2020 despite the knock he suffered against Bulgaria.
Benzema picked up a knee injury and hobbled off the pitch in tears, which raised concern over his fitness ahead of the summer’s Euros.
However, France boss Didier Deschamps is confident the star striker is going to be fit in time for Tuesday’s opener against Germany.
Journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi backed Deschamps’ claims as he said there is ‘no worry ‘for Benzema who will return to training in 72 hours at the latest.
Bouhafsi tweeted: “No worries for KB9! Karim’s muscle deflated that night and the pain was less.
“Nevertheless, the star of #Real was not scheduled to train this Wednesday. He will resume his training path within 48 to 72 hours maximum”
    ENGLAND SCHEDULE
As we get ready for tomorrow’s Euro 2020 premiere, let’s have a look at England’s fixtures.
The Three Lions kick off their campaign on Sunday against 2018 World Cup runners-up Croatia at Wembley.
Then they will face off against Scotland in London on June 18.
Their final match of the group stage takes place on June 22 against the Czech Republic at Wembley

Who’s ready for another traumatic tournament experience?
You might need a visit to this place afterwards…

    EUR THE ONE
Almost a quarter of England fans think the Three Lions will win Euro 2020, a YouGov survey has revealed.
More than 2000 fans were questioned about the upcoming Euros on behalf of Betfair, with 23 per cent of England fans backing Gareth Southgate’s side to go all the way.
Scotland and Wales fans also took part in the survey, but just 5 per cent of Scots and 7 per cent of Welsh fans backed England to win their first Euros.
However, 35 per cent of Scotland fans and 47 per cent of Wales fans will cheer on England, and former Three Lions boss Glenn Hoddle is pleased by the level of support.
He told Betfair: “I’m quite happy with that percentage, I thought it would be far less cheering England on. It’s always been this way, and I doubt it will change for this tournament.
“23 per cent seems a fair number, right on the money. We have a chance without any shadow of a doubt, with some good players – it’s never going to be 80 per cent of the country thinking we’ll win, is it?”
    PADDY POWER’S GIANT FLAG
Paddy Power have unveiled a giant England flag at the home of Irish side Bray Wanderers – covering the entire pitch!
The Irish bookie is calling on everyone in the nation to back England this summer.
They’re promising to donate €10,000 for every England goal at the tournament.
And they’ll double the amount if Ireland’s former international Declan Rice or ex-youth star Jack Grealish score.
    Here’s the flag…

    EARNED IT
Robert Earnshaw is a cult hero on Twitter due to his fascinating insight into a range of topics, including aliens and the person who discovered milk.
The former Wales international will join ITV as part of their Euros coverage and if he is as entertaining on TV as he is on social media then viewers are in for a treat.
Several footballers have grabbed attention for their odd opinions and tweets, such as Louis Saha being grateful for the ‘good banter’ he had with his son over dinner instead of watching TV.
None compare to Earnshaw however, who has become the master of pondering the more obscure aspects of life, almost like a Welsh Karl Pilkington.
Perhaps his most brilliant ‘eureka’ moment came during the first lockdown last year, when he stated: “There is zero evidence that today is Sunday.
“We are all kind of relying on the fact somebody has kept an accurate count since the first one ever.”

    MAG RACE
England were boosted by the return of Harry Maguire in training today ahead of their Euros bid.
And Jordan Henderson was also seen sprinting at the Three Lions base in a major boost for boss Gareth Southgate.
The Man Utd centre-back and Liverpool midfielder both had injury doubts hanging over them heading into the tournament.
It’s too early to tell whether either man could feature in Sunday’s opener against Croatia at Wembley.
But seeing two senior men and leaders back among the rest of the group is a shot in the arm for Southgate.
England face Scotland next Friday at Wembley before taking on Czech Republic in their final group game on June 22.

    RON WAY ROUND
Cristiano Ronaldo was mocked for the ‘worst free-kick’ of his entire career during Portugal’s friendly with Israel.
The Juventus superstar was renowned for his set-piece taking, especially earlier in his career with Manchester United and Real Madrid.
But he woefully dropped his standards in Portugal’s final game before the delayed European Championships.
The legendary forward, 36, completed his iconic run up to the ball but riffled one right into the empty stands.
Ronaldo was ruthlessly slammed by fans online, who called for him to stop taking free-kicks all together.

    FEELING ATTACKED
Kylian Mbappe was reportedly left feeling ‘attacked’ and ‘angry’ after team-mate Olivier Giroud’s comments that he doesn’t receive enough service while playing for France.
And such was his ‘fury’ at the Chelsea forward’s opinion, that he wanted to release a statement in order to hit back.
After coming on to score twice against Bulgaria on Tuesday night, ‘degraded’ Giroud, 34, appeared to accuse his team-mates of not picking out his runs enough.
He told L’Equipe du Soir: “I was a little quiet because, sometimes, I make runs and the balls aren’t forthcoming.
“I am not saying that I always make the best runs, but I am seeking to offer solutions in the box.”
According to L’Equipe, Mbappe was angered by Giroud’s comments – and wanted to call an impromptu press conference in order to hit back with some of his own.

Maguire will not be involved in Sunday’s opener against Croatia at Wembley or the big clash against Scotland five days later.
But the central defender, providing he does not suffer a setback, believes he could make the substitute’s bench for the game against the Czech Republic on June 22 in London.
This would be a massive boost for Gareth Southgate going into a potential quarter-final.
England had more encouraging news on the injury front in Staffordshire yesterday with Jordan Henderson delivering sprints at the start of the season.
He played in the second half of Sunday’s 1-0 win against Romania in Middlesbrough but looked off the pace.
And even though the Liverpool captain is improving in sharpness, it is unlikely he will start against Croatia.
ITV pundit Roy Keane questioned the decision to select the Liverpool midfielder after missing the last few months of the Premier League season.
Speaking before Sunday’s game against Romania, Keane said: “Clearly Jordan’s not fit – I don’t think he should be involved.

    EURO 2020 BETTING SPECIAL

“If he can’t start the game against Romania – because physically and mentally today’s game won’t be that tough for him – having not kicked a ball for three-and-a-half months he can’t be right.
“I’ve heard people say they want him around the place – for what? Does he do card tricks? Does he have a sing song? Does he do quizzes in the evenings?
“What does he do? Jordan’s an experienced player.
“Surely Jordan doesn’t want to be around the place as some sort of cheerleader – you want to play and he’s clearly nowhere near it.”

Euro 2020: Declan Rice can be new Bobby Moore and captain England and West Ham, says old boss Slaven Bilic

DECLAN RICE is on course to follow in the footsteps of Bobby Moore, says the man who put him on the road to stardom.Legend Moore led England to World Cup glory in 1966 and West Ham through their heyday in the same heady era.

Slaven Bilic handed Rice, 22, his debut while managing the Hammers in 2017 — and pushed him from defence to midfield in a tactical masterstroke.
But even Croatian Bilic is astonished at just how quickly Rice is progressing.
He said: “I don’t see a bigger or better contender to become England captain one day.
“Put it this way, he is a leader, already been skipper at a big club — and it is not a burden for him.
“He can cope with it. It is natural for him. And if he continues to improve, I would be very surprised if he does not captain the national team.
“He is unbelievable. I would be lying if I said I knew he was going to be this big so quickly. He is not stopping. The sky is the limit for him.
“Yes, he was promising and a good talent when I was at West Ham, then he trained with us and we saw how mature he was.
“Tell him just once. He wants to listen, to do what you asked.

“We gave him a couple of minutes in the last game of the season against Burnley away.
“Then he went with us to pre-season and was one of the squad.
“We had injuries so we needed a midfielder — he started and did the job.
“Even when I left he was a holding midfielder. Ordinary on the ball.
“After a few months we all started to see him being great on the ball, playing diagonal passes.
“He was not only controlling midfield in the defensive phase of the game — but controlling the whole game.
“Every week you see something more from him.

“They have tradition and they have London.  Fans shouldn’t be worried that Rice is improving.”

Euro 2020 is FINALLY here and England are favourites – here’s your ultimate guide to the summer spectacular

FOOTBALL has come home… at last! The Euros are here, and with eight games at Wembley and three at Scotland’s Hampden Park, fans are really being treated in the UK.

Can England captain Harry Kane lead the Three Lions to major tournament success?Credit: PA
England last hosted a major tournament 25 years ago for Euro 1996 – one current boss Gareth Southgate won’t need reminding about.
The gaffer missed the crucial penalty in the semi-final against Germany as the Three Lions fell agonisingly short.
Now Southgate is hoping to lead his youthful and exuberant squad to glory under the Wembley arch.
The coronavirus pandemic delayed the tournament for a year – but now there’s no stopping the Beautiful Game taking centre stage.
Here, SunSport takes a look at the big players at the festival of football that kicks off tonight at the Stadio Olympico in Rome with Turkey against Italy.

ENGLAND and Southgate can step up
By SunSport’s Chief Football Writer Dave Kidd
When Southgate was appointed England boss in 2016 – following Euros humiliation by Iceland and the embarrassment of Sam Allardyce’s butterfly reign – many regarded him as a soft touch and an FA yes man.
They mistook Southgate’s decency and good manners for a lack of leadership qualities.
Those myths were dispelled by England’s march to the World Cup semi-finals and a series of tough, unpopular decisions on the way.

He enjoys that unique pressure and, despite the horrible outcome, the fact that Southgate took England’s sixth penalty 25 years ago is testament to his willingness to accept responsibility.
However England fare at this tournament, Southgate will not dodge responsibility.
SunSport has signed up the legendary Jose Mourinho for this summer’s competition. He gives his verdict on England and the rest…
Jose on England: “It has to be now, because it was in 1966. It wasn’t in Euro 96, because of a penalty shootout which is something very unpredictable.
“They have to push with everything this time.”

    ROUTE TO THE FINAL
It might actually be BETTER if England finish second in Group D.
That way they would likely play Sweden in the round of 16. If they win the group they could be paired against France, Germany or Portugal.
Come through that potential Sweden tie, there’s no avoiding one of France, Germany or Portugal in the quarter-finals though.
If Southgate guides his troops to the semi-finals, potential opposition could be Italy or Belgium.
Taking in all the big guns, it then could be a final showdown against Luis Enrique’s Spain in the final.
    We can but dream!

SCOTLAND – Steve and the boogie men
    By Graeme Bryce
Ally McCoist once claimed he felt sorry for Brazil and Germany fans at major tournaments.
“Where is the excitement and drama, travelling halfway across the planet when you know the only game you might lose is at the final?
“Where’s the fun in that? Give me Scotland any day – we don’t have a bloody clue what is going to happen from one minute to the next.”

If Ally is right and it is better to travel in hope rather than expectation, then Scotland fans can look forward to the usual rollercoaster of emotions this summer.
They secured their spot at this year’s tournament with a nail-biting penalty shootout win against Serbia. That was soon followed by boss Steve Clarke’s squad belting out ‘Yes Sir, I can Boogie’ in Belgrade, before doing the conga.
As McCoist said, Scotland simply don’t do dull.
Jose Mourinho’s verdict: “They are not candidates for the title, not even the semi-finals. But it is going to be very hard to beat them.”

WALES – New Page and chapter
    By Martin Blackburn
Wales will play at a major tournament for only the second time since 1958 this summer.
But they will have to do it without the man that led them there
Ryan Giggs was temporarily stood down from his role as Dragons head coach when he was arrested following a domestic incident back in November.

Rob Page, a member of Giggs’ backroom staff is the man charged to lead Wales this summer.
Skipper Gareth Bale and Juventus star Aaron Ramsey are likely to be key, with all they achieved for both club and country over the years.
A place in the knockout stages is the target and, if everything clicks, it is not beyond them.
Jose Mourinho’s verdict: “With the small group of players they are doing amazingly well, so lots of respect.
“But it will be hard for them even to qualify for the next phase.”
    Famous Wales fan: Tom Jones

ITALY – Is Roberto the Man?
    By Phil Cadden
Roberto Mancini delivered Manchester City’s first league title in 44 years back in 2012 – and now he wants to complete the resurrection of the Italian national team.
Mancini took charge in May 2018, six months after Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 60 years.
The 56-year-old transformed Italy’s fortunes, winning all ten of their Euros 2020 qualification games, with only Belgium matching that feat.

The Azzurri will be the favourites to reach the knockout stage from Group A, consisting of Wales, Turkey and Switzerland.
Once there, Mancini’s Italy could even be a shrewd bet to win the Euros.
Jose Mourinho’s verdict: “Italy have talented players, but they have a very good tactical knowledge. They’re able to play in different ways.
“I think they will be always in in the final four.”
Italy are being tipped to have a strong tournamentCredit: Getty
BELGIUM – Golden chance for Kev and co
    By Tom Barclay
This tournament is viewed by many in Belgium as a last chance of success for their golden generations.
Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku may be in their prime but the majority of Roberto Martinez’s squad are past their peak.
And Eden Hazard’s fitness if the hot topic going into this tournament.

Belgium do not consider themselves favourites but a semi-final is the minimum expectation.
Jose Mourinho’s verdict: “I think it’s now or never for them because lots of the players are reaching this perfect age to make it.
    “They can do it.”
HOLLAND – Time to turn it around
    By Jordan Davies
After failing to qualify for the last two major tournaments, the Oranje are looking to win a Euros game for the first time since 2008.
It is their longest absence from international finals since the 1980s, when they returned to lift the 1988 Euros.
But under boss Frank De Boer, who took over from Ronald Koeman back in September, that feat appears unlikely this time around.

Virgil van Dijk is a huge loss, with the Liverpool defender ruling himself out with injury.
Given their fall from grace – not winning a game at Euro 2012 – many fans would settle for making the knockouts.
Jose Mourinho verdict: “Holland should get out of the group but to reach semi-finals or the final? I don’t see that.”

SPAIN – Write them off at your peril
    By Oscar Paul
Unfancied and overlooked, this could be the year for the great Spanish revival.
While going in as fifth-favourites, La Roja will fear no-one and have been boosted by defender Aymeric Laporte’s late switch of allegiance from France.
It is not quite Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets, but the midfield trio of Koke, Rodri and Pedri offers guile, protection and the passing needed to get Luis Enrique’s side humming.

They are likely to adopt a 4-3-3, with Ferran Torres a constant danger on the right.
On the left, Mikel Oyarzabal is coming off a stellar season with Real Sociedad, while Chelsea flop Alavaro Morata is set to be the focal point.
Jose Mourinho verdict: “Luis [Enrique] was my player when I was in Barcelona a long time ago. He has great leadership qualities. He will have the team around him altogether.
“They can beat anyone but I don’t see them playing in the final.”
Jose Mourinho thinks Spain can go all the way to the finalCredit: GettyLATE TO THE PARTYThese five players have benefited from the delayed Euros

    EDEN HAZARD
Since moving to Real Madrid, the Belgian star, 30, has had a torrid time with injuries – and he was touch and go to make it last summer.
But after a long season of rehab, the former Chelsea winger is creeping back to full fitness.
    PHIL FODEN
This time last year the Manchester City starlet, 20, had not yet made his Three Lions debut.
Now it would be hard to imagine an England starting XI without him.
    ANSU FATI
The winger, 18, is Barcelona’s youngest-ever scorer at 16 years and 304 days.
The Spanish FA soon swooped in to prise him away from his country of birth – Guinea-Bissau.
    KARIM BENZEMA
After a six-year absence, Benzema will be back scaring defences for France this summer.
And at the age of 33, the Real Madrid striker is somehow in the form of his life
    JAMAL MUSIALA
Born in Stuttgart but raised in London, the former England U21 forward had a tough decision to make.
It paid off – after the 18-year-old was included in Joachim Low’s Germany squad.

    FRANCE – The frightening favourites
    By Duncan Wright
Les Bleus are tournament favourites for a reason.
Boss Didier Deschamps can call on some of the biggest stars in world football.
With N’Golo Kante, Paul Pogba and Adrien Rabiot in midfield, they will look to dominate possession and stop opponents getting at their defence.

Going forward they look frightening, as Antoine Griezmann’s guile provides the perfect foil for the blistering pace and finishing of Kylian Mbappe.
Real Madrid’s goal machine Karim Benzema, 33, has also been given a shock call-up for the first time since 2015.
Add Kingsley Coman, Thomas Lemar and Ousmane Dembele to the mix, and there are plenty of wild cards on offer.
Jose Mourinho’s verdict: “I cannot see any weakness. If I had to say one team to win it, I will say them – because the group of players is fantastic.
“They have to win it. If not, it is an unsuccessful Euros.”
France fans will be hoping their heroes do what the bookies think they will and win itCredit: Getty
    GERMANY – Low’s swansong
Germany come into the Euros as an unsung threat – though outgoing boss Joachim Low could have done without being drawn in the Group of Death alongside France, Portugal and Hungary.
The dismal group-stage exit at Russia 2018 still lingers in the minds of many but this new squad is littered with the kind of talent other nations could only dream about.
Manuel Neuer is a rock in goal and any squad boasting the attacking threat of Ilkay Gundogan, Leroy Sane, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner is something to be wary of.

But unlike German teams of old, there is not the same confidence in the defence – that is Low’s big challenge.
Home advantage could be the key to qualification for the knockout rounds.
Jose Mourinho’s verdict: “The Germans are the Germans.. and I think this says everything.
“I think they can be out in the group phase. It can happen. But I think if they go through the group phase, they can go all the way.”
    PORTUGAL – Not just a one-man team
Write Portugal off as a one-man team at your peril. The defending champs are a force to be reckoned with.
Cristiano Ronaldo will attempt to raise himself to new levels one more time – but unlike in France in 2016, there is far more to the squad managed by the wily old Fernando Santos.
Not least in the shape of brilliant Manchester City trio Joao Cancelo, Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias.

Throw in Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Jota and Joao Felix and they have the creativity to unlock the best defences, so long as they do not get into the habit of relying too heavily on veteran Ronaldo.
And a rearguard partnership of the superb Dias alongside the conniving Pepe is a tough one to beat.
Jose Mourinho’s verdict: “We play France in France, Germany in Germany and Hungary in Hungary.
“So it’s an incredible situation but if we go through, we are capable of going until the end.
    WHERE ARE THE FAN ZONES?

England fans get ready to roar Harry Kane’s lions to victory as Euros kick off

ENGLAND’S streets and pubs turned into a sea of flags yesterday as patriotic football fans got ready to roar Harry Kane’s lions to victory. The Covid-delayed Euros start today and although England’s opening game is still two days away, the country is at fever pitch.

Our front page rallying call today urges Harry’s heroes to do the nation proud on and off the pitch.
Wales and Scotland will be fancying their chances of beating the leading lights ahead of the July 11 final.
England fan Dean Scott, 32, has made his own “Dirty Bertie’s” shed bar.
Dean, of Chelmsford, Essex, said last night: “I’ve got crates of beer, a huge TV and more flags than I can count.
“It’s going to be absolutely epic in my shed. Come on Harry. On me shed son. Bring it home.”
    £3M PINT BOOST
Punters have covered Dougie’s Tavern in Hebburn, South Tyneside, in flags and aren’t letting pandemic restrictions dampen their enthusiasm.
The drinkers banded together and have spent the past three weeks putting up scaffolding and hanging the bright banners from every available spot.

Regular Bobby Park, a 68-year-old retired wholesaler, said: “The lads have got together and this has been a group effort. After the year we’ve had we’re all waiting for that first game.”
Another punter added: “We’re just praying Harry and the boys can bring it home this time.”
Sunday’s 2pm match at Wembley against Croatia is predicted to boost pint sales in pubs by at least £3million.
Overall, around ten million pints will be sold — three million during the game, the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) said.
Ten million were sold the last time England played Croatia at the semis of the 2018 World Cup.
We’re just praying Harry and the boys can bring it home this time.
That was a higher-profile game, but the BBPA says the figures do show the severe impact of restrictions.
Table service only, metre-plus distancing, table sizes of up to six indoors and no bar service limit how many punters pubs can host.
Emma McClarkin, of the BBPA, said: “Nothing beats watching England at the pub. Unfortunately, the current restrictions do mean the experience isn’t going to be the same.

“Because of this, we expect pubs to sell a million pints less than they would have done without restrictions.
“That will cost our pubs £3million on Sunday alone. Given our pubs have been closed or faced restrictions for more than a year, every little helps and is critical to our recovery and survival.
    ‘COUNTDOWN TO FREEDOM’
“It’s time for the restrictions on our freedoms to be replaced by the protection of the vaccination and for businesses and life to get back to normal. The Countdown to Freedom is on.”
Official Downing Street rules mean chanting and cheering are banned in pubs. That is because of fears airborne virus droplets travel further as revellers take deep breaths during singalongs.
Security staff will be asked to warn or even eject fans who belt out anthems like Football’s Coming Home or God Save the Queen.
Lawyer Graeme Cushion, a specialist in pub licensing, said: “Like it or not, the Government guidance covers hospitality venues including restaurants, pubs and bars.
“Any music should be played at a low level, and is effectively at a background level to prevent any shouting, singing or dancing.
“But I suspect our patriotism — particularly if England are doing well — may get the better of us.”

Mr Cushion, a partner at top London law firm Poppleston Allen, warned standing and singing was a definite no-no.
He said: “Businesses showing games may ask you to sit down and not stand up to sing.”
The song ban was confirmed as 85 per cent of fans said restrictions will ruin watching the Euros at the pub — piling more pressure on PM Boris Johnson to push ahead with Freedom Day on June 21.

But Pogba told his Manchester United team-mate Dan James that he thinks Wales can surprise a few people again.
The France star got a close up view of Robert Page’s squad in a friendly between the nations in Nice last week.
And James said: “I spoke to Paul after the game and he said ‘we’ve got a great team and we’ve got a great chance,’ which is always great to hear.
“We fully believe in ourselves. We are here for a reason – we are not just here to take part.

“I think we were both laughing but they caught him on the picture where he is not and he is just looking at me strangely.
“I will have to ask him what was going on in that picture.”
James has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot since moving to Old Trafford two years ago.
But he believes playing alongside players like Pogba has helped him develop.
He added: “I think I like that kind of added pressure. It helps me as a player. I’ve got to learn with that, I’ve got to deal with situations like that all the time.
“Playing in pressurised games always helps but I try not to put too much pressure on myself. I don’t think there’s any need to.
“You can let the game can get to you if you put too much pressure on yourself.
“It’s such a big jump. If you look at any career and the progression levels. You want to take little steps but I took that big step – it was one I could never turn down.

“Maybe I played a little bit more than I thought I would the first year. I’ve kept learning from that.
“I think there are always stages in your career – if you look at everyone – where you might take that little dip but I’d like to think my all-round game is a lot better now.
“I’ve learnt so much and have been working on most things every day, learning off players in my position and doing the best I can to be ready for tournaments like this.”
Although he was born in Humberside, his late father Kevan was Welsh and there was never any doubt who his son would play for.
Asked if there was ever an approach from the Three Lions, he said: “I can’t say there was. I was always Wales.
“I went to my first camp when I was 12 in north Wales.
“My dad took me to it so I’ve been throughout the whole system which quite a few of the boys have been, Harry [Wilson], Joe Morrell, from very young.”
He added: “For Euro 2016, I was in Marbella at the time. I watched it out there, I was on holiday.
“It was crazy really. The expectations were never to get that far. It was just brilliant to watch and we can take that into this tournament.”
