The match was streamed 3.9 million times on iPlayer, a new record according to the Beeb.
An average 10.2m people tuned in to watch it live on BBC One.
The audience peaked at 11.6m, which was a 79 per cent share of available viewers.
England’s first group game was also streamed a further 600,000 times on BBC Sport online.
That means around 4.5m streamed the clash on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport online combined.
That total number of viewers yesterday was still some way off the peak audience of 26.5m that watched England go out of the World Cup in 2018 on ITV.
The overall TV match average for the semi-final defeat to Croatia was 24.3m, while ITV also said there were a record 4.3m requests to watch it online on ITV Hub.
Yesterday’s viewing figures were also short of the 12.8million who watched the Line Of Duty finale last month – making it the most watched drama episode since records began.
The incredible climax managed to rack in 56.2 per cent of the UK’s TV audience.
Leicester City’s 1-0 win over Chelsea in last month’s FA Cup final was watched by a peak audience of 9.1m viewers on BBC.

BT Sport’s coverage of the Champions League final between Manchester City and Chelsea reached 8.7m viewers across their TV channel and its digital platforms in May.
Sky One recently revealed this month’s Friends reunion special brought the channel its biggest audience ever of 5.3m viewers.
Meanwhile, the last ever Game of Thrones episode back in 2019 was watched by 5.789m million, making it the Sky’s biggest series finale of any show ever.

What are the lyrics to The Flower of Scotland?

O Flower of Scotland,When will we seeYour like again,That fought and died for,Your wee bit Hill and Glen,And stood against him (against who?),Proud Edward’s Army,And sent him homeward,To think again.
The Hills are bare now,And Autumn leaveslie thick and still,O’er land that is lost now,Which those so dearly held,That stood against him (against who?),Proud Edward’s Army,And sent him homeward,To think again.
Those days are past now,And in the pastthey must remain,But we can still rise now,And be the nation again,That stood against him (against who?),Proud Edward’s Army,And sent him homeward,To think again.

Declan Rice claims England match with Scotland will be one of biggest of career and knows importance of Euro 2020 clash

DECLAN RICE cannot wait to get cracking at Scotland – because he thinks it will be one of the biggest matches he ever plays in his career.Rice is only at the start of a journey which could see him take part in some of the highest profile matches in football.

Declan Rice was impressive in England’s win over Croatia
But the West Ham midfielder knows Friday’s battle between the Three Lions and their Auld Enemy has extra importance purely because of the national rivalry between the countries and the fans.
The Euro 96 game between the teams still gets talked about now, and Rice believes this could be just as big in the history of matches between the two sides.
The 22-year-old said: “When you look back on your career at the end, the game on Friday will probably go down as one of the top three you will ever play.
“We know the history with Scotland. We know the type of game it will be.
“After tonight, we travelled back and had a laugh amongst the lads and enjoyed it. Then we want to focus on the Scotland game and repeat the same performance.”
England’s 1-0 win over Croatia on Sunday not only got the team off to the best possible start, it also made some sit up and take notice of just how strong Gareth Southgate’s side can be.
All the talk has been of the attacking threat the team possesses, but there were question marks going into the tournament about the defence and also if the Three Lions were good enough in midfield at the highest level.
Despite shining for the Hammers many have still questioned whether Rice is actually as good as some claim, while Kalvin Phillips had been seen as something of a next-best option with Jordan Henderson.

Rice directed the midfield brilliantly in the Croatia winCredit: Getty

Indeed, even Croatia highlighted that area of the pitch as where they would achieve dominance – confident Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic and Marcelo Brozovic were superior in every department.
What they didn’t know that in the week before kick-off, Southgate had hatched a plan and tactics which would see Rice, Phillips and Mason Mount set up in a triangle that would be so decisive.
Three years after losing control in midfield to cost them the World Cup semi-final, the Three Lions produced a midfield display to suggest that can be truly competitive at the highest level of international football.
Rice added: “We didn’t want to comment too much before the game, we just wanted to go out and show what we could do.
“We’ve been working on me, Mase and Kalv, our distances and Mase and Kalv pressing while I sit just behind them and let them express themselves and have the freedom to do what they want.

“And I think it worked really well. There we spells where Croatia had the ball and we had to sit in, me Mase, Kalv, it was outstanding, it worked really well with them.
“We knew we had to be at the top level. I would have backed myself a few years ago to go out and perform at a high level but maybe had some doubts.
“Fortunately, I’ve been able to do it it since after the season and performances that I have had with England recently I had full confidence to go out there and perform at a high standard.
“I think everyone was on it. We were unlucky not to be 1-0 up from Phil’s shot, we had some other chances and Raheem scored a great goal.
“I thought everyone was top and that made the difference.”
Pre-tournament, Southgate had been highly critical of the poor press from his players in the friendly against Austria, and now we know why.
It may even have been one of the reasons behind the decision to leave Jadon Sancho out of the matchday 23, because he had concerns about him doing his defensive work properly against such dangerous opponents in Croatia.
The stats from the match are telling – the barnstorming Phillips covered 10.34km with Rice just behind him on 10.11. No Croat midfielder even made it to 9km.
Rice is one of the first names on the teamsheet for England boss Gareth SouthgateCredit: EPA
Southgate found a balance to his midfield which saw his players put in a shift but never look overrun, something which has often been a criticism of England in tournament football.
The doubters discovered Rice can perform against the very best on his own at the base of a midfield, while Phillips can be the real deal rather than next best.
There seems little chance Southgate will mess with things against the Scots, and Rice says they will need to be just as physical if they are to see off Steve Clarke’s side and seal qualification for the last-16.
He added: “They’ve got some top players who play in the Premier League.
“Che Adams, McGinn and Scott McTominay in the middle are two warriors and Andy Robertson and Tierney at the back are great leaders and players.
“We are not going into it and say it is going to be easy because that will be wrong. They are going to come and be physical and we need to match that and do more.
“We need to be ready and we will be ready.”

Schmeichel says it was ‘damn nice’ to see Christian Eriksen ‘laugh and be himself’ in hospital after cardiac arrest

DENMARK keeper Kasper Schmeichel said it was ‘damn nice’ to see Christian Eriksen laughing and smiling in hospital after his cardiac arrest. The Leicester stopper described it as a ‘wonderful’ to see and chat to his team-mate after the ‘violent experience’ on the Copenhagen pitch on Saturday.

Eriksen, 29, collapsed during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland and the team doctor said he ‘was gone’ before they started cardiac resuscitation.
He needed 13 minutes of intense medical treatment – including CPR and defibrillator shocks – but was thankfully stretchered off the pitch awake soon after.
It was confirmed on Sunday the former Tottenham man had suffered a cardiac arrest but was stable.
And he sent a brief message to the public – as reported by Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport on Monday.
Danish goalkeeper Schmeichel was one of Eriksen’s group of family and friends who were allowed in to see him over the weekend before resuming training with the rest of Denmark’s team on Monday.
And ahead of the session, the 34-year-old said: “It was damn nice to see him smile and laugh and be himself. Just notice that he is there.
“It was a wonderful experience and something that has helped me see that he was okay after lying there.
“We talked about nothing and everything. As long as he is well – that has been the most important thing. He has experienced something that we have not experienced.

“He has a completely different experience of the situation. It was great to talk to him, and now we have a lot of work to try to navigate.”
Asked about his own recollection of the harrowing situation, the Foxes stopper added: “It’s a violent experience.
“But he is here today, and I am very grateful for that. The only heroes there are are the doctors who saved him.
“We are professional football players, but these people dedicate their lives to saving people. That they could do it under that pressure.
“I cannot describe how much admiration I have for them. That they could bring him back is a miracle.
“I even think about how I would have my team-mates react if I was lying there. And then we have some amazing people on this team. A captain and a coach who knows how to act.
“It characterises us as a team and country that we stand together until the very end.
“Personally, I tried to imagine if it was me who was lying there. I knew Christian’s wife, children, and parents were there, so at one point I tried to look for them.
“It is an inhuman situation for them to go through.”

Schmeichel reassured Eriksen’s wife Sabrina Kvist Jensen as she ran down the touchline on Saturday and told her ‘he breathes’.
Denmark captain Simon Kjaer has been widely hailed for his decisive action just moments after Eriksen collapsed.
The 32-year-old AC Milan defender dashed from his position and pushed aside other players to immediately place Eriksen into the recovery position, clearly unconscious.
Kjaer realised what was going on and worked to stop the 29-year-old from swallowing his tongue and then took the life-saving decision to start giving CPR on his stricken friend.
And Schmeichel was full of admiration for his national team skipper who also visited Eriksen on Sunday.
He added: “I am incredibly proud to have him as captain.
“It does not surprise me that he did as he did. He has an incredibly sensitive and human side of him.
“Simon and Christian spend a lot of time together in Milan as they live close to each other.
“We did not make any decisions. We did, as we did. I think it’s a very natural thing. Simon… I do not know what to say. He is an exceptional person.”

How Christian Eriksen’s partner Sabrina Kvist Jensen gave up career to become WAG, mum & best pal to Harry Kane’s wife

THE world gasped in shock when Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch on Saturday, in the middle of Denmark’s clash with Finland. But for loyal love Sabrina Kvist Jensen – who leapt over the barriers to run to his side – it was a moment of pure terror.

Peter Schmeichel said Sabrina believed her partner “had died” during the shocking Euro 2020 incident, which was later confirmed to be a cardiac arrest.
The legendary goalie’s own son, Kasper Schmeichel, had to reassure mum-of-two Sabrina the Danish midfielder, 29, was still breathing after he collapsed.
The 26-year-old, who has stood by his side for nine years, moving around the world as his football career blossomed, was by his side when he woke in hospital.
Sabrina sacrificed her own life in Denmark to move to London, ditching her hairdressing career to become a WAG when Christian, 29, signed for Tottenham in 2013.

After building a life in London, including a close friendship with Harry Kane’s wife Katie Woodland, she upped sticks again to followed him to Italy when he signed for Inter Milan last year.
The couple, who met when Sabrina was 18, are as devoted as ever and despite Christian’s huge salary of £6.5m a year, they have always shunned the wild parties in favour of quiet dinners with friends and nights out at music gigs.
The couple have shared romantic holidays in Dubai, Tanzania and Malaysia in recent years as well as rubbing shoulders with Danish royalty.
While other WAGS spend their days in beauty salons and shopping in designer stores, Sabrina keeps a low key existence, looking after three-year-old Alfie and his sibling, born in January this year.

Quiet life in a £7m Hampstead mansion
Born in Tommerup in Denmark, Sabrina was 18 and studying to be a hairdresser when she began dating Christian in 2012.
When he signed for Tottenham the following year, she initially stayed in Denmark to complete her beauty course, before following him to London where she briefly worked for a clothing brand.
Christian has admitted that adjusting to life as a premier league player in London was difficult for both of them.

“You have to learn how to cope physically and mentally, but I can handle the pressure and the demands because I live seven days a week for my job,” he says.
“That is very tough for my girlfriend. Of course I would like to go out in the city with her and friends, but it just doesn’t fit in with playing in England.”
In 2016, Christian signed a new longterm contract with Spurs and splashed out on a mansion in Hampstead, where a five-bed house costs between £7m and £28m.

Even before becoming parents, the couple shunned red carpets and glitzy parties for intimate meals with their closest friends, Harry Kane and Katie Woodland.
Tottenham Striker Harry, 26, took the Danish player under his wing as soon as he joined the club and Sabrina and Katie became close friends very quickly.
They bonded further over their pregnancies, with Katie giving birth to daughter Ivy just four months after Alfie was born, and both giving birth to a second child early this year.

On couples’ nights out, before the couple moved to Milan last year, they choose high end London restaurants including Zuma, in Knightsbridge or Aqua Shard – where a steak costs upwards of £40.
Sabrina and Christian also love live gigs, and were spotted singing along at a Major Lazer gig in London before the pandemic. The four friends recently got together for a Bruno Mars concert, in 2019.
Although they swerve the limelight as much as possible, they do make exceptions for royals.
In 2014, they met the Danish Queen Magrithe II at an official bash in their native country, posting a glamorous picture from the event.
Chris wrote: “An absolute honour to meet the Queen of Denmark yesterday! A night to remember!”

Holidays in Dubai and a safari in Tanzania
The couple like to travel and are adventurous in their destinations.
In 2017, before Sabrina fell pregnant, they took an extended break in Tanzania, where they went on a luxury safari holiday, costing around £5000 a head.
The couple were thrilled to see elephants, rhinos and lions as well as enjoying some downtown on stunning golden beaches.
Other pre-lockdown trips have included Dubai, where they were pictured riding a camel, and Malaysia, where they stayed in Kuala Lumpur.
The romantic pair have also taken breaks in Rome and Amsterdam, where they visited Christian’s old Ajax haunts.

Romantic partner born on Valentine’s day
With a birthday on Valentine’s Day, it’s not surprising Christian likes to get a little slushy on his Instagram posts.
Every August he posts an anniversary picture, writing in 2017: “Five years with this incredible and wonderful person.”
In December 2017, the couple announced they were expecting their first child with a cute shot of themselves cuddling, with Chris holding the scan pic and Sabrina wearing a shirt reading “coming soon.”
He wrote: “Mum and dad to be. #proud” with a heart emoji.
And fatherhood has made him even more romantic.
On February 14, 2019, he posted a picture of Sabrina and Alfie with the message: “My birthday, Valentines and any other day of the year crew.”
On holiday last year, he posted a picture of Sabrina kissing Alfie with the words: “Not enough love for these 2!”
In January this year, Eriksen announced the arrival of baby number two – although the tot has never been publicly named.
Sharing a picture of himself with Sabrina, Alfie and the newborn, he wrote: “Family of four.”

    Rocked by fake ‘scandal’
The path of this true love was running smoothly until 2019, when false cheating rumours put a bump in the road.
The couple were forced to rubbish online rumours that Sabrina had cheated on him with married team-mate Jan Vertonghen.
The original tweet spreading the fake news read: “Christian Eriksen’s wife has reportedly been caught having an affair with his team-mate Jan Vertonghen.”
But Christian stood by his partner, answering with a simple “Bulls***”.

The Tweet also claimed the Spurs squad were involved in a bust-up – with Harry Kane involved – attaching pictures of Jan Vertonghen sporting a black eye.
But Jan replied with a series of emojis, including a heart next to Christian’s Twitter handle.
The Sun revealed that the injury was instead from an ‘accidental’ training ground collision with Eriksen earlier this season.
The vicious gossip would test any relationship but Christian stuck by his girlfriend as steadfastly as she has always stuck by him.

In the terrifying moment, this weekend, when she thought she had lost him, Sabrina’s world looked like it was crumbling.
But whatever his future holds, she’ll be thanking her lucky stars the love of her life is alive, on the mend, and will still be there to see their precious family grow up.

Christian Eriksen cardiac arrest was NOT sparked by Covid vaccine – Inter Milan quash jab conspiracy theory

INTER Milan have been forced to deny rumours Christian Eriksen’s cardiac arrest was related to the Covid vaccine. The Denmark midfielder, 29, was given CPR on the pitch after collapsing during the team’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland on Saturday.

Conspiracy theorists have now spread claims online that the horror was down Eriksen getting the Covid vaccine or contracting the virus.
But Inter Milan have quashed the rumours, which were also shared by ex-Southampton and England player Matt Le Tissier.
The Italian club confirmed their star player has not been vaccinated and does not have the virus.
Inter director Giuseppe Marotta said: “He didn’t have Covid and wasn’t vaccinated either. At this moment, Eriksen is under the guidance of the Danish medical staff.
“It is right that they release information, but I can say the Inter medical staff have been in contact with them from the start.
“The players are very close and we all immediately communicated with each other after seeing those images. We didn’t want to be invasive and so tried to respect his convalescence once we had been reassured.”
    FOOTBALL HORROR
It is understood the claims were circulated after Eriksen’s cardiologist at former club Tottenham said some players may have had Covid jabs, which could have resulted in “scarring” of the heart.
Sanjay Sharma of St. George’s University of London, said he had no prior heart issues during his spell at the Premier League club.
There is no link between the jab and cardiac arrest but in some very rare cases, people can suffer side effects such as a swelling of the heart.
Patients can also suffer a blood clot that could lead to cardiac arrest if it travelled to the heart.
Former Spurs ace Eriksen fell stricken to the ground during the first half of Denmark’s opening game.
Medics immediately rushed over at Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium as his teammates forced a protective shield around him.
Eriksen was eventually taken off the pitch on a stretcher after 13 minutes of intense medical treatment.

The Danish FA confirmed on Sunday morning that Eriksen was stable in hospital and would undergo further tests.
Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen said yesterday the 29-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest and “was gone”.
Eriksen today spoke for the first time and said he feels better but wants to “understand what happened”.

Man Utd legend Roy Keane ‘impressed’ by England’s 1-0 win over Croatia in Euro 2020 opener at Wembley

ROY KEANE revealed he was ‘impressed’ by England after their convincing 1-0 win over Croatia in their Euro 2020 curtain-raiser.Gareth Southgate orchestrated the Three Lions’ first-ever win in a European Championship opener thanks to a second-half strike from Raheem Sterling.

While England only won 1-0 against a stubborn Croatia, they were comfortably the stronger of the teams.
And former Manchester United legend Keane reckons the way Southgate’s squad controlled the game puts them in good stead for the rest of the tournament.
Speaking on ITV, Keane said: “The way they managed the game impressed me as much as anything.
“Their decision-making during the game in terms of possession and stretching their opponents.
“Then when they got a goal in front, they never looked like giving up the lead.
“It was a great sign for England going forward.”
England boast the second-youngest squad at this summer’s Euros.
But despite that, Keane reckons the likes of Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham will continue to bely their years thanks to their wealth of experience playing at the highest level for their clubs.

Keane continued: “They have a lot of young players in that team, but they have a lot of football under their belts at the highest level and that is the same for their manager.
“Gareth is experienced, he knows international football, and his team reflected that.”
Keane’s former Old Trafford pal Gary Neville was also full of praise for the Three Lions as he claimed boss Southgate was their ‘biggest asset’ in this tournament.
Neville added: “I think we’ve got an outstanding international manager who’s got unbelievable experience.
“I thought he managed that game unbelievably today.
“You talk about who the best player was, it might be Kalvin Phillips or Raheem Sterling but our biggest asset is our manager.
“The clamour in the past would have been for Grealish and he didn’t even bring him off the bench.”

Neville added: “So, he’s willing to make the unpopular decisions, ones that some of us ultimately – at times – don’t think he should make because he knows that group better than anyone.
“He’s had seven or eight tournaments now, as a coach now, with the Under-21s, as a player.
“He’s vastly experienced and I feel really comfortable with him there – as an England fan.
“What he did [against Croatia] was really good.”
