Fabrice Muamba claims Christian Eriksen being fitted with ICD heart starter is ONLY way he will ever play again

EX-BOLTON star Fabrice Muamba believes Christian Eriksen must be fitted with a heart-starter device if he wants to continue playing. The Denmark star has suffered a cardiac arrest – the same medical emergency Muamba endured nine years ago.

Former Premier League star Fabrice Muamba suffered the same medical emergency during an FA Cup tie nine years agoCredit: AFP
Speaking to ITV, Muamba said: “He has to remember he has a family now.
“Is it worth taking the risk to come back and play again [on having heart starting ICD implant]?
“I think that’s the only way that any football club will be able to sign him again.”
Eriksen had to be resuscitated on the pitch after collapsing during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland.
Muamba was forced to retire from professional football in March 2012 when he suffered a cardiac arrest in a televised FA Cup tie between Tottenham and Bolton at White Hart Lane.
The ex-England U21 international’s heart stopped for 78 minutes before he was resuscitated.

The world held its breath after Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch
Denmark’s team doctor Morten Boesen has confirmed Eriksen will be fitted with an ICD (Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator).
Boesen said: “After Christian has been through different heart examinations it has been decided that he should have an ICD.
“This device is necessary after a cardiac attack due to rhythm disturbances.
“Christian has accepted the solution and the plan has moreover been confirmed by specialists nationally and internationally who all recommend the same treatment.”
Christian Eriksen’s life was saved by the fast reactions of team-mates and medics

But it’s far to early to say whether the 29-year-old, who is currently recovering in a Copenhagen hospital, will be able to continue playing professionally for Inter Milan.
Former Manchester United defender Daley Blind had an ICD fitted in December 2019 and has continued playing, helping Ajax win the Dutch title last term.
The 31-year-old is also part of Holland’s squad for Euro 2020.
But ex-England cricketer James Taylor was forced to retire after being fitted with an ICD in 2016.

TV viewers left baffled as Scott Brown appears with HAIR after spending years as Celtic captain bald

TV VIEWERS were left baffled by Scott Brown and his full head of hair. The Scottish icon, 35, has forged a reputation as a hardman with his bald head over the years.

But appearing on ITV as a pundit, the midfielder stunned those tuning in having grown his locks out – albeit not as long as last year just yet.
Brown appeared alongside Emma Hayes and Robert Earnshaw in the studio for coverage of Ukraine vs North Macedonaia.
But there was only one thing on people’s minds as many took to Twitter to share their shock at the mop on top.
Paul said: “Scott Brown with hair just doesn’t seem right to me.”
Daniel wrote: “Is that Scott Brown with hair?”
Harry added: “Scott Brown looks really, really weird with hair.”
Alan replied: “Scott Brown with hair looks absolutely unnerving.”
And Adam quipped: “Has Scott Brown painted his head or just grown some hair?”

Brown left Celtic this summer after 14 years with the Hoops and joined Aberdeen as player-coach under Stephen Glass on a two-year deal.
He inherited the captain’s armband at Parkhead in February 2010.
The no-nonsense midfielder made 614 appearances, scoring 46 goals and collecting a whopping 22 trophies in the process.
He also skippered Scotland 25 times from February 2013 to September 2017 but retired from international football the following year.

England and Scotland legends Glenn Hoddle and Gordon Strachan make Euro 2020 clash predictions and pick out key players

ENGLAND and Scotland legends Glenn Hoddle and Gordon Strachan have had their say ahead of Friday night’s epic Euro 2020 showdown. The rival nations go head-to-head in a real Battle of Britain in the second Group D clash – with both teams in very different positions after one game apiece.
Glenn Hoddle and Gordon Strachan have had their say ahead of Friday’s clash between England and Scotland
England beat Croatia 1-0 on Sunday to get their Euro 2020 off to the perfect startCredit: Getty
England won their tournament opener – for the first time ever – with a 1-0 win over Croatia.
But Scotland crashed to a 2-0 defeat against Czech Republic, with Steve Clarke’s side now almost certain to need a result against their auld enemy.
Hoddle called England’s start ‘perfect’, while Stachan was underwhelmed by Gareth Southgate’s squad saying they ‘weren’t that good’.
Strachan went on to say Scotland were ‘unlucky’ to lose to Czech Republic, while Hoddle blamed their profligacy in front of goal.
And ahead of Friday’s 8pm kick-off at Wembley, Hoddle – tipping England to win 2-1 – told Betfair: “In football terms we’ve got nothing since 1966 to blow our trumpet about… let the country get carried away.
“Gareth is a very steadfast guy and he’ll have the team in that mode, too.
“The good thing for England is there’s more to come without a doubt.
“It’s going to be a tight game but the pressure’s on Scotland to open up a bit more.

“If they get a draw they’ll really be under pressure against Croatia in the last game.
“I think the game will be a little more open than if the result had gone the right way for the Scots.
“The game might be heated at times and I think they’ll give us even more of a test than Croatia.
“It could become quite feisty… it will get a bit feisty, if you’re playing tiddlywinks against Scotland it gets feisty, that’s the combative energy this fixture brings up.
“The team that controls their emotion will end up playing better and winning.”
On the combative edge, Strachan agreed with Hoddle – but plumped for a ‘truly exciting’ 0-0 draw.

The Scot added: “Southgate and his team will be wary, just as they were of Croatia.
“Fans are different altogether. It’s not about football with fans, it’s about superiority.
“England have got that superiority complex in basically everything.
“I don’t know if it adds an extra stride to the players. It will make for a good game.
“I imagine it will be heated, most likely the petulant screaming and shouting at the referee. Not to mention some meaty challenges.
“The crowd is affecting players and making them more emotional – that is when you have to get your yellow yards, to curb the emotion.”
Both Hoddle and Strachan claimed Jack Grealish will be the difference-maker – despite the fact he failed to start England’s win over Croatia.

When asked who Southgate’s dangerman is, Hoddle said: “If Grealish is playing I’d say him, but I don’t think he’ll start.
“I think he’ll have a big impact if he comes on from the bench.
“Scotland will be quite deep so we might need someone to run at people and draw fouls. If he plays, he’s the man.
“There’s a bit more to come from Foden, he could be somebody that really comes alive on the day.
“It’s one of those scenarios where Grealish or Foden could have a big impact.”
Strachan added: “Jack Grealish will stand out, if he plays. I don’t want him to play for that reason.”
Unlike with England, the pair couldn’t decide who would be Scotland’s main man.
Strachan plumped for Grant Hanley to keep Harry Kane quiet, along with Kieran Tierney and Liam Cooper, but Hoddle picked Scott McTominay.

The former Scotland boss said: “As long as Hanley and Tierney are there, that is good pace.
“Hanley has played against Kane a few times, so that will help.
“It would be good to play the three players who have played against Kane.
“Hanley, Cooper and Tierney have all faced Kane in the Premier League and they know the ins and outs of their games.”
Hoddle replied: “[Scotland’s] major asset is their team play, they haven’t got a Kenny Dalglish or a Charlie Nicholas.
“McTominay, if he has a good game, could be vital for Scotland. The game’s going to be won in that area.
“Rice and McTominay have got to dominate the ball, so that’s going to be a key battle in midfield.
“Scotland haven’t got anyone you really fear.”

England vs Scotland football results: Head-to-head record between the two teams ahead of Euro 2020 clash

ENGLAND are taking on Scotland as the two sides go head-to-head at Wembley. The occasion will no doubt conjure memories of Paul Gascoigne’s famous strike and dentist chair celebration in Euro 96.

But what is the overall head-to-head record between England and Scotland?
    England vs Scotland head-to-head
England edge Scotland in the head-to-head stakes.
In 114 meetings, the Three Lions have 48 wins, the Scots have 41 and 25 have ended in a draw.
In recent years however, England have enjoyed near total dominance of games between the two sides, which have become less frequent.
Since 1990, the Three Lions have won five, drawn one and lost one against the Scots.
Scotland’s victory came at Wembley when they won 1-0 in a Euro 2000 qualifying play-off, but it wasn’t enough to prevent England going through 2-1 on aggregate.
Most of Scotland’s success in this fixture came before World War 2 when they won 29 of 63 games compared to just 19 England wins.

England have the superior head-to-head record against Scotland
England vs Scotland head-to-head (international tournaments)
England and Scotland have actually met just once at an international tournament.
That game was, of course, England’s 2-0 win at Euro 96.
However, the sides have met plenty of times in qualifying for international competitions.
That includes their last meeting at Hampden when Harry Kane secured a 2-2 draw for England in the last minute after two Leigh Griffiths free kicks for the Scots.
Famously Scotland beat England 3-2 at Wembley in 1967, a year after the Three Lions had won the World Cup, in Euro 68 qualifying.
However, it was England who would progress to the tournament after holding out for a 1-1 draw at Hampden in front of 135,000 people a year later. More

Reckon I’ll get away with that excuse tomorrow if I don’t turn in to work Rob?— Jay Edwards (@JamesEdwardsLFC) May 17, 2020

Several footballers have grabbed attention for their odd opinions and tweets, such as Louis Saha being grateful for the “good banter” he had with his son over dinner instead of watching TV.
None compare to Earnshaw however, who has become the master of pondering the more obscure aspects of life, almost like a Welsh Karl Pilkington.
Perhaps his most brilliant ‘eureka’ moment came during the first lockdown last year, when he stated: “There is zero evidence that today is Sunday. We are all kind of relying on the fact somebody has kept an accurate count since the first one ever.”
Strange but true, Robert, strange but true.
He is equally as eccentric in his views on Monday’s, aliens and life itself.
And Earnshaw famously suggested that if Mark Lawrenson was a day of the week he would be Monday.

We cannot wait to see what fascinating comparisons he makes between the stars of Euro 2020 and whatever bizarre subject his mind comes up with.
Perhaps Gareth Bale could be a bowl of Coco Pops – cereal, after all, is another of Earnshaw’s favoured topics.
The former striker’s antics have grabbed attention and a significant following online.

If in doubt,Cereal is always great anytime of the day.— Robert Earnshaw (@RobertEarnshaw) June 13, 2013

The Second Tier podcast singled out four tweets representing some of his best work alongside a caption that read: “Gentle reminder that Rob Earnshaw is the single greatest mind to ever exist.”
Others pointed out that lockdown was getting to Earnshaw a little last year, particularly his opinion of bats and the outbreak of Covid-19.
Fans should be on the edge of their seats for match analysis when Earnshaw is in the studio as he is bound to provide non-stop entertainment.

Phil Foden dyes hair bleach blonde again in another nod to England hero Paul Gascoigne as Scotland Euro 2020 clash nears

PHIL FODEN is ready to pull off his own Scottish masterclass after dying his hair bleach blonde once again. On the eve of England’s Euro 2020 clash with rivals Scotland, the Manchester City ace has taken inspiration from the legendary Paul Gascoigne.

Almost exactly 25 years ago, Gazza scored one of England’s most memorable Euro goals when he flicked it over the head of Colin Hendry before volleying past Andy Goram.
Foden, 21, drew comparisons with the Three Lions legend when he dyed his hair before the tournament.
And after England’s opening 1-0 win over Croatia, Foden has ensured he has maintained the look to take on Steve Clarke’s side.
Despite the similarities, Foden has insisted his new-look style was his ‘own thing.’
He said: “I’ve had the same haircut for ages now. I thought I’d try something new.
“I woke up this morning with a lot of comparisons to Gazza and Eminem, it was my own thing and people have turned it into something else.”
Gazza was quick to distance himself from the comparison and joked no-one compares to him.
He responded: “No one compares to me.

“I can beat everyone with my eyes shut, and that’s with a bottle of whiskey inside of us as well and a couple of Bacardi breezers.”
England boss Gareth Southgate has been handed a Euros 2020 boost ahead of Friday’s Wembley clash with defender Harry Maguire declaring himself fit.
The Manchester United skipper has made a rapid recovery from the ankle ligament injury he picked up at Aston Villa last month.
Asked if he is fit to start, Maguire, 28, said: “Yes definitely.

“I’ve done a few sessions now and feel like my fitness is there, so I’m available for the game.”
Yet the central defender is still unlikely to start against the Scots, with boss Gareth Southgate looking certain to keep faith with John Stones and Tyrone Mings.
Away from the training pitch, the Three Lions have been making a splash inside their St George’s Park base.

Does third place qualify for the Euro 2020 last 16?

TWENTY-FOUR teams are competing against each other in the hope of becoming European champions. And as Portugal proved in 2016, you CAN finish third in your group and go on to take home the trophy.
Scotland could finish third and qualifyCredit: The Sun

The top two from each group will go on to compete in the knockout stages of the competition.
The 12 teams that go through do not make up the numbers to meet the requirements of the Round of 16, so who does?
Does third place qualify for Euro 2020 knockout stages?
Yes, finishing third does lead to qualification for the knockout stages but only for four of the best third-placed teams.
All of the teams that finish third in the group stages of the Euros are put into a table.
And their position in the table is determined firstly by how many points they picked up in the group stages.
But if the teams cannot be separated by points, whichever team has the highest goal difference finishes higher up the table.
If the table cannot be decided through points or goal difference, it then goes to the number of goals scored in the group stages.

Eder’s goal stunned favourites FranceCredit: GETTY IMAGES
And if the first three fail to separate the teams, it then goes to fair play conduct, followed by the team’s Uefa ranking.
    The procedures are as followed:

    Higher number of points obtained;
    Superior goal difference;
    Higher number of goals scored
    Fair play conduct;
Position in the Uefa national team coefficient ranking system.

But they ensured they kept their sharpness up with a bonkers twist on an egg and spoon race in preparation for their Thursday’s 2pm kick-off.
The drill saw two teams of players – split into red and yellow groups – race up the pitch in pairs with a ball apiece balanced in an upturned cone.
After reaching the other end, the duos would launch the balls in the air and attempt to catch the other’s, before darting up to the other end.
The bizarre training drill caught the eye of viewers on social media with just hours to go until North Macedonia kicked-off against Ukraine.
One fan joked: “Sports day vibes.”
Another said: “They’re here for a good time, not a long time.”
A third added: “Little team building exercise. If you’re not having fun, what’s the point?”
