Watch Man Utd star Harry Maguire wallop home penalty for Sheff Utd at Wembley nine years before Euro 2020 spot-kick

ENGLAND star Harry Maguire smashed home his penalty during his country’s shootout defeat by Italy in the Euro 2020 final. But that’s not the first time the defender has scored and lost a Wembley shootout – doing the same for boyhood club Sheffield United nine years ago.

Maguire, 28, was part of the Blades squad that reached the League One play-off final in 2012.
The South Yorkshire side played out a dull 0-0 draw with Huddersfield Town at Wembley and the game went to penalties.
Maguire, then aged 19, wasn’t due to shoot from the spot with more experienced team-mates stepping up.
But with the shootout level after six penalties, the future Manchester United captain was called upon.
And the pressure was on as Gary Roberts had already hammered Huddersfield’s seventh penalty beyond Blades goalkeeper Steve Simonsen.
But Maguire, shooting in front of the Terriers fans, was the coolest man in Wembley – walloping the ball past Huddersfield stopper Alex Smithies.
The event draws comparisons with England’s shootout defeat on Sunday, with Sheffield United also ending up on the losing side.
Maguire came through the ranks at Bramall Lane, winning the club’s Player of the Year award three years in-a-row before moving to Hull City in 2014.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, the Three Lions defender revealed his dad has suspected broken ribs after ticketless fans trampled on him at Wembley.
Maguire has also paid tribute to England’s penalty takers – and admitted he would have thought twice about taking one for his country at such a young age.
And the Premier League star is aiming to go one step further in Qatar next year by winning the World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Jordan Pickford in stats-based Euro 2020 team of tournament as five England stars make XI

THE official Euro 2020 Team of the Tournament was revealed by a Uefa panel on Tuesday – but, according to the stats, they got it wrong.Five Italy stars were named in Uefa’s official XI – including Player of the Tournament Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Jordan Pickford should have been named in the Team of the Tournament over Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to the statsCredit: AFP
But the Uefa panel, which included West Ham boss David Moyes, were way off with their analysis, according to a study from BetVictor – who used 170 different performance indicators to come to their conclusion.
And the stats suggest Uefa made a staggering FIVE mistakes in their team.
Donnarumma doesn’t even make the XI, according to the algorithm – with England hero Jordan Pickford performing to a higher level.
In defence, Luke Shaw replaces Kyle Walker in the stats-based team – with Leonardo Bonucci, Leonardo Spinazzola and Harry Maguire all keeping their places.
Young Player of the Tournament Pedri and Italy ace Jorginho also keep their spot in the XI.
But Kalvin Phillips should have been in the team instead of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, says the stats.
There are also TWO changes in the front-three – with only Raheem Sterling keeping his place.
The numbers say Euro 2020 Golden Boot winner Cristiano Ronaldo should be in the Team of the Tournament ahead of Romelu Lukaku.

And red-hot Czech Republic star Patrik Schick should have been given the nod over Federico Chiesa, the stats have revealed.
All in all, that means runners-up England should have had FIVE stars in the team instead of just three.
And Italy should have had just three instead of five, despite beating the Three Lions in the final on penalties.
Euro 2020 also made history by boasting the MOST extra-time games ever – with eight matches needing an additional half an hour.
The previous record was five, seen at Euro 96 and Euro 2016.
The eight extra-time games also equals the major tournament record, levelling the tallies set at the 1990 and 2014 World Cups.

Online racists WILL be banned from football matches after one million signed petition, Boris Johnson announces

ONLINE racists WILL be banned from footie matches after more than a million Brits demanded they be punished, Boris Johnson announced today.Putting trolls on notice, the PM warned: “You will not be going to the match. No ifs, no buts, no exceptions, no excuses.”

Fans have rallied round three black England stars who were sent sick messages and monkey emojis on social media after their penalty misses.
A million people signed a petition in just two days demanding vile trolls be barred from games as punishment.
Current football banning orders do not extend to abuse spouted on social media – giving racists free rein to attack players online.
But as part of a crackdown on the “Wild West of the internet” the Government will go after trolls and slap them with bans.
Banning orders range from three to 10 years and can require culprits to surrender their passports ahead of overseas fixtures.
Government will launch a 12-week consultation to thrash out the details wrapping it into the Online Harms Bill.
Announcing the move at PMQs Mr Johnson said: “What we’re doing is today taking practical steps to ensure that the football batting order regime is changed.
“So that if you are guilty of speaking racist views online you will not be going to the match, no ifs, no buts, no exceptions, no excuses.”
    It comes as:

Labour called for football banning orders to extend to online abuse yesterday.
A subsequent petition says: “We are calling for the Football Association and the government to work together now to ban all those who have carried out racist abuse, online or offline, from all football matches in England for life.
“Our England team stood up for all of us – now we must stand up for them.”
Fans Shaista Aziz, Amna Abdullatif and Huda Jawad set up the petition just two days ago.
They said they feel “validated in our resistance to racism and that what we have been able to articulate is the sentiment that is held nationwide”.
Last week Mr Johnson told racists to “crawl back under the rock from which they emerged”.
Today he added: “I utterly condemn and abhor the racist outpourings that we saw on Sunday night.”
But the Government is feeling the heat after Euros star Tyrone Mings lashed out at Priti Patel for branding Gareth Southgate’s squad’s decision to take the knee as “gesture politics”.
The Home Secretary shirked a Commons grilling on the matter this afternoon and instead sent one of her junior ministers.
In his first interview since the tournament, Harry Maguire exclusively told The Sun the racist cowards would never have had the guts to step forward for a penalty themselves.
Maguire, who scored in the shootout, said: “When I was 19 or 20, I would have been standing there saying ‘I don’t want to take one’.
“There is no chance I would have been putting my hand up at their age.

“So look at the courage and bravery of these young lads, look at the age of Bukayo, Jadon and Marcus.”
And he said big tech companies must take responsibility for getting rid of racist language.
He said the law must be changed so companies have to link accounts to a person’s real identity — making it easier for police to track down and arrest those spewing hateful messages.
“Something needs to be done. The companies need to verify every account,” he said.
“It is too easy to troll and abuse. To be racist is just too easy to be done and get away with.”
Meanwhile, Rashford said he was near tears after support from fans.
It comes after thousands of people in his childhood hometown of Withington visited his defaced mural – and covered it with notes and tributes to a “role model” instead.
The ace said: “I can take critique of my performance all day long, my penalty wasn’t good enough, it should have gone in.
“But I will never apologise for who I am and where I came from.
“I’ve felt no prouder moment than wearing these three lions on my chest and seeing my family cheer me in a crowd of tens of thousands.
“The messages I’ve received today have been positively overwhelming and seeing the response in Withington had me on the verge of tears.”
‘RACIST COWARDS WOULD NEVER BE SO BRAVE’
Cops in London are probing the racist abuse posted on social media.
One comedian has seen a string of shows cancelled after tweeting: “I’m sorry that black guys are bad at penalties.”
And firm Savills has suspended a worker after racist abuse was sent from his Twitter account.
A post from Andrew Bone’s Twitter account branded the players the N-word and claimed the England stars had “ruined it for us” after the loss.

But Bone’s family claimed to The Sun his account had been hacked – and he had reported the matter to police.
Cyber security expert Zak Doffman told the Sun it’s “not difficult” for social media platforms to stop racist comments.
“These are blatant messages of hatred and racism and it would absolutely be the easiest thing in the world for social media platforms to put in place protections that stopped that kind of message from being published,” he said.

Germany legend Matthaus claims England DESERVE Euro 2020 ‘trauma’ after ‘unsporting behaviour’ from fans and players

GERMANY legend Lothar Matthaus believes England ‘deserve the trauma’ after losing their Euro 2020 final with Italy. The 60-year-old has accused Gareth Southgate’s brave heroes and Three Lions fans of ‘unsporting behaviour’ after the FA were charged by Uefa.

Reviewing the final in his column for SportBild, Matthaus wrote: “English fans were hostile to the little girl in the Germany jersey.
“They were whistling the opposing national anthems.
“Denmark’s goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was blinded with a laser during a penalty that Raheem Sterling dived to get in the semi-finals.
“Add to that the racist hostility towards their own players after the final.
“Dear Englishmen, that was unsportsmanlike behaviour that we did not know from you and never want to see again.

Football fans have come under fire after vile racist abuse was aimed at Southgate’s stars and a young German supporter was trolled earlier in the tournament.
Some supporters inside Wembley also booed national anthems and a laser pen was allegedly directed at goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel during England’s semi-final against Denmark.
But the English public have also shown fantastic support towards the players abused, with hundreds attending an anti-racism protest at Marcus Rashford’s Manchester mural.
And a JustGiving page was set up to show solidarity with the young German supporter, raising more than £36,000 for her to donate to charity.

Matthaus’ accusation of diving against Raheem Sterling is also harsh as replays show the England star was clipped by a Danish defender.
The German icon is remembered by Three Lions supporters for helping to defeat Bobby Robson’s side in the 1990 World Cup semi-final.
Matthaus captained his country to victory in that tournament and was also part of the squad that won Euro ’80 in Italy.
The FA have been charged by Uefa over four separate incidents that took place during Sunday’s final at Wembley.

The trio were sent sick messages and monkey emojis on social media after their penalty misses, while a Manchester mural to school meals champion Rashford was defaced.
Prince William, Boris Johnson and Harry Kane were among those who blasted the sick racists – and now legions of true fans have signed a petition calling for racists never to return to a game.
    It comes as:

Harry Maguire reveals dad has broken ribs and is struggling to breathe after ticketless yobs trampled on him at Wembley

ENGLAND star Harry Maguire has told how his dad Alan was left with suspected broken ribs by ticketless yobs who stormed Wembley. The England defender, 28, also called for a crackdown on trolls by social media firms following racist abuse of his team-mates suffered after the Euro 2020 final defeat.

Maguire’s 56-year-old father was caught up in the terrifying scenes which left him struggling to breathe after the Euro 2020 Final.
The accountant found himself pinned to the floor, suffering two suspected broken ribs, after the mob burst in through a disabled entrance and stampeded past anyone standing in their way.
Harry, who smashed home his spot-kick in the devastating shootout defeat to Italy, said of his dad’s ordeal tonight: “It was scary.”
However, battered Alan has since spoken of his relief that Harry’s two daughters — who he usually hoists onto his shoulders at games — were not caught up in Sunday night’s shameful melee.
Manchester United defender Harry said: “It was not a nice experience — it shook him up. But he was fortunate as every game he has been to he has had my nephew or one of my kids on his shoulders.
Harry Maguire talks Euros loss, racism and World Cup hopes in exclusive Sun interview
“So I’m thankful that did not happen as it could have been a really serious moment.”
Alan was one of hundreds of innocent England fans caught up in shameful scenes as thousands of ticketless yobs battered their way in after overwhelming security.
He was crushed underfoot alongside Harry’s agent Kenneth Shepherd as they made their way to the players’ families seating area to the left of the tunnel.
Harry, who was shocked by the footage of marauding yobs at the ground, told The Sun: “My dad was in the stampede. I have not spoken with him too much but I am pleased my kids didn’t go to the game.
“It was scary — he said he was scared and I don’t want anyone to experience that at a football match.

I hope we can learn from this and make sure it doesn’t happen againHarry Maguire
“I have seen a lot of videos and have spoken to Dad and my family. It was my dad and agent who suffered the most.
“I hope we can learn from this and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Despite being in extreme pain, Alan did not ask for medical treatment.
Understandably, he did not want to miss the biggest game of his son’s career.
Lionheart Harry, who paid for himself and his brother to watch England as spectators at Euro 2016 when he was a Hull City player, said: “My dad’s a big fan — he got on with it.
“He was struggling with his breathing afterwards because of his ribs, but he’s not one to make a big fuss.
“The experience at Wembley is always amazing, filled with great people and great fans normally. But this time was obviously the final and everyone got overwhelmed and the way some people acted was totally wrong.
“Dad will always support me and go to the games but he will be a little bit more aware of everything going on around. We should all be more aware and learn from it.”
Harry also told how there were several ructions in the seating areas, where ticketless yobs refused to budge. He said: “There was a lot of trouble. It happened where the friends and families were.

“A lot of people got to their seats and there were people sat in their seats. That caused confrontations with people being told to move.
“The main thing is you want it to be an amazing experience and you don’t want anyone to have any bad memories of the final.
“That is the disappointing thing. Things could have been a lot worse but we have to make sure it does not happen again.”
As Uefa opened an investigation into the stampede, Harry hopes the security chaos would not wreck England’s chances of hosting a future World Cup.
He added: “Wembley is an amazing place. It has been an amazing home and the fans and the way they have acted have been unbelievable, apart from the odd few in a final.
“We need to learn and we will — and it would be an amazing place to hold the World Cup.”
He also paid tribute to the support of his loved ones throughout the tournament.
Harry said: “I had around 20 family and friends in the stadium.
“I have quite a big family and they have followed me throughout all the games with England.
    ‘EMOTIONAL JOURNEY’
“Their support for me has been amazing during the tournament and they are on an emotional journey with me.”
Uefa chiefs tonight charged the FA on four crowd-shame counts arising from the mayhem. Disciplinary proceedings were opened over a pitch invasion, throwing of objects, booing the Italian national anthem and the lighting of a firework. The FA is likely to be rapped with a fine.
However, Uefa added: “Separately, an ethics and disciplinary inspector has been appointed to conduct a disciplinary investigation into events involving supporters which occurred inside and around the stadium.
“Information on this matter will be made available in due course.”
The FA was tonight facing calls for a “root and branch” security shake-up following the debacle which has shamed the national game. An estimated 2,500 ticketless thugs surged through poorly staffed security cordons before kick-off.
They had circulated pictures of match tickets and Covid-negative test barcodes to overwhelm poorly trained, badly paid and ill-equipped stewards manning barriers.
Furious paying fans also said the police were nowhere to be seen as trouble erupted around the ground.
One video showed scores of drunken yobs clambering through a barrier and sprinting towards the entrance as a female steward fell screaming to the floor.
She was repeatedly trampled until pulled clear. Another video showed disabled access doors being breached by dozens of males and females in England shirts.

More footage showed fights breaking out between fans and gatecrashers — with one man repeatedly kicked in the head and body after falling to the ground.
At one point a frustrated fan turns on stewards standing by and shouts: “Do your f***ing job!”
An FA spokesman said: “We will carry out a full review and investigation into the events that took place at Wembley Stadium before and during the Euro 2020 Final.”

TikToker J2hundred, 19, films himself ‘sneaking’ into Wembley to watch Euros final after finding ‘gap’ in exit door

A BRAZEN TikToker filmed himself sneaking into Wembley to watch England’s Euro 2020 final with Italy.Tiktok star J2hundred, 19, broke in through a ‘gap’ in an emergency exit door – making a mockery of shambolic stadium security.

He and a pal sneaked into the stadium without once being challenged by securityCredit: YouTube
The teenager – who has 1.3 million followers – and a pal are not challenged once by police or guards as they breach two security fences and saunter around the stadium.
It comes amid shocking scenes at Sunday’s final as hundreds of ticketless fans stormed into Wembley.
One 17-year-old boy with a ticket was kicked out after a thug shoved in behind him.
Drunken hooligans broke through barriers and brawled as stewards battled to keep control, with fears that the chaos could scupper Britain’s bid to host the 2030 World Cup.
    WEMBLEY CHAOS
J2hundred told his followers he’d planned to film himself in London watching the game, but said: “Little did I know that I was going to sneak into Wembley Stadium”.
The friends are filmed on Wembley Way as crowds massed before the crunch game.
Supporters are seen arguing with riot cops as they try to gain entry to England’s biggest match in 55 years.
J2hundred approaches a steward and asks: “How much to let me in.”

But he refuses and replies: “I like my job”.
Smirking to the camera J2hundred later says: “We are going to try to break in.”
The friends are seen pushing apart some fencing and clambering through to the outer part of the stadium.
They amble up stairs towards the entrance to the stands before casually circling to find a way in.
Two other teenagers are then filmed pulling open what appears to be an emergency exit door.

J2hundred says: “It was a sign from God, we were meant to be in that stadium, there was just a gap in the door”.
Other fans join them to prise open the gap – with no security or police on hand to stop them.
The group clamber inside before J2hundred gleefully says: “I’m in.”
He and his pal stroll up the steps into the top tier of Wembley’s stands without anyone checking for their tickets.
The TikTok personality films himself watching the entire match – but isn’t approached once by security or stewards.
    ‘WE’VE DONE A MADNESS’
Sitting on stairs between rows of seats as extra time is played, he says: “We’re in, we’re in. I don’t know how we got in.
“We’ve done a madness, we have done an absolute madness”.
The friends are seen celebrating with fans when Jordan Pickford saves Jorginho’s penalty.
But after England lose the shootout, J2hundred is heard saying: “Look at the disappointment in our faces.
“We did all of that just to watch England lose.”
Shocking scenes of hooligans causing mayhem at Wembley have been widely condemned.
Harry Maguire’s dad was left with suspected broken ribs by ticketless yobs who broke into the stadium.
UEFA have charged the FA over four separate incidents which took place during Sunday’s final.
Disciplinary proceedings have been opened over a pitch invasion, throwing of objects by fans, booing the Italian national anthem and the stadium break-in.
The Met faced a barrage of criticism over policing failures at Wembley.
Nineteen Met Police officers were injured during violent clashes in London, with 86 arrests, 53 of them at Wembley.

An FA spokesman said “We strongly condemn the behaviour of a group of people that forced their way into Wembley Stadium before the EURO 2020 Final. This is entirely unacceptable.
“These people are an embarrassment to the England team and to all of the true fans who wanted to enjoy one of the most important matches in our history.
“We will work with the relevant authorities to take action against anyone who is identified to have illegally forced their way into the stadium.”

Rashford, 23, took pain-killing injections to ensure he was available for the Euros.
But he has opted to have an operation after the problem did not improve over time.
A source close to Rashford said: “Marcus’ desire to get the shoulder corrected was strong towards the latter part of the season.
“But expecting to play a greater role with England this summer and taking immense pride in representing his country he embarked on camp with the backing of both domestic and national team doctors.

It is believed Rashford will then have to wait six weeks after the op before he can resume training.
That means the forward could be on the sidelines for up to 12 weeks in total.
The news is a major blow to United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is bidding to end the club’s eight-year wait for a Prem title.
Rashford will miss the season opener against Leeds on August 14 and could miss eight league games and three Champions League ties in total.
He could also miss five England World Cup qualifiers in September and October as well.
Solskjaer has been handed a boost with Jadon Sancho completing his medical ahead of a £73million move.
Rashford, 23, and new team-mate Sancho, 21, alongside Bukayo Saka, 19, suffered vile racist abuse after their penalty shootout misses.
