Team news, injury updates, latest odds for Slovakia vs Spain as rivals battle to qualify from Group E

SPAIN will be looking to notch their first win of the tournament and avoid the threat of an early Euros exit. Should Poland overcome Sweden, Luis Enrique’s men could find themselves out of a contest their country has won on three occasions including a triumph in 2012.
A win for Alvaro Morata and his team-mates would guarantee Spain a place in the Euros’ last 16Credit: Getty
But Slovakia will be eager to register their second victory in the tournament with the Estadio de La Cartuja clash to be aired on ITV at 5pm on Wednesday.
However  Stefan Tarkovic’s men could reach the last-16 if they win, or secure a draw if Sweden avoid losing.

    What’s the form?
Spain have endured a below-par start to the Euros by their standards with the team missing gilt-edged opportunities to net a winner against Poland.
And Enrique’s players were held to a 0-0 draw by Sweden despite having 17 shots on target following a solid defensive display by their opponents.

Meanwhile Slovakia have picked up three points from their first two games following an impressive 2-1 win against a 10-man Poland side.
But they suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Janne Andersson’s Swedish side with the result being their first international defeat since November 2020.
     Who’s in and who’s out?
There are growing calls from Spanish press for Cesar Azpilicueta to start and lead Spain’s defence.
The return of the Chelsea ace could see Marcus Llorente return to a role further forward with the attacker currently playing at right-back.
And midfield dynamo Sergio Busquets could be set to make a much-needed return after missing Spain’s first two games due to a positive Covid-19 test.
The Barcelona stalwart’s return could see Rodri drop to the bench after the player received a yellow card against Poland.
We are not in the situation we expected. We would have liked to be more comfortable but football rarely gives you what you expect. We are alive and we depend on ourselves.Cesar Azpilicueta

    Watch out for….
Manchester City target Ferran Torres making a return to Spain’s starting line-up following Gerard Moreno’s missed penalty against Poland last time out.
However, reports claim Enrique could keep Moreno in his side with the Villarreal forward having provided more goal assists – 16 in 14 games – than any LaLiga player since the start of this year.
Meanwhile, Ondrej Duda is expected to keep his spot in Slovakia’s attacking line-up despite picking up a booking in his side’s second game.
And defender Ivan Shranz is reportedly likely to miss the clash with Spain through injury.

    If the game is rubbish
Alice Campello, 26, will be among those hoping Spain will reach the Euros knockout stages.
The Italian fashion designer and model is married to striker Alvaro Morata.
The couple have three children but also hope to adopt.
Morata, 28, is reported to have proposed to Campello during a magic show.

Can Wales fans travel to Amsterdam for Euro 2020 last 16 match vs Denmark?

WALES have continued their perfect record of getting out the group stage at tournaments.A 1-0 loss to Italy confirmed that the Dragons will be playing in the last 16.
Wales have been followed by a small but loyal fanbase in Baku and RomeCredit: Reuters

And it’s Amsterdam up next with everyone’s second team Denmark waiting in the wings.
Here’s all Wales fans need to know about travelling to the game.
Can Wales fans travel to Amsterdam?
Fans from Wales are NOT allowed to travel to the Euro 2020 last 16 game in Amsterdam.
This has nothing to do with the UK amber list restrictions on non-essential travel, which are guidelines rather than law.
Rather, the Dutch government has banned all non-essential travel from the UK to the Netherlands for non-residents, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
And Uefa has confirmed that there are no exemptions to this policy for Euro 2020 ticket holders.
During the first Euro 2020 game in Amsterdam between Holland and Ukraine, ITV reported that Ukraine fans were stopped at Kiev airport and prevented from boarding flights to attend the game.

Is there any way Wales fans can attend the game in Amsterdam?
Yes. Wales fans who were in Rome for the game against Italy will be able to travel to Amsterdam for the last 16 game if they go directly.
This is because Italy is regarded by the Netherlands as a “safe” country within the EU.
The Dutch government website says: “If you are coming from a country where the risk of contracting COVID-19 is low (a safe country) you do not need to show a negative test result.
“You are also not required to self-quarantine when you arrive in the Netherlands.”
The Dutch government guidance does not state that prior travel to “unsafe” third countries (such as the UK and Azerbaijan) will prevent you entering the Netherlands but do make extra certain you are aware of all the local rules before travelling.
Wales fans travelling from any of the following countries will also be allowed to attend the match:

    Albania (from 24 June onwards)
    Australia
China (mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau). Only if China lifts entry restrictions on European travellers.
    Israel
    Japan
    Lebanon (from 24 June onwards)
    New Zealand
North Macedonia (from 24 June onwards)
    Rwanda
    San Marino
    Serbia (from 24 June onwards)
    Singapore
    South Korea
    Taiwan (from 24 June onwards)
    Thailand
United States (from 24 June onwards)
    Vatican City
    Austria
    Bulgaria
Croatia, apart from the Sjeverna Hrvatska region including Zagreb
    Cyprus
    Czech Republic
    Finland
    France: the island Corsica only
    Germany
    Greece: the South Aegean Region
    Hungary
    Iceland
    Ireland
    Italy, including Sicily
Greece: the North Aegean Region and the Ionian Islands Region only
    Liechtenstein
    Luxembourg
    Malta
    Norway
Portugal (including the Azores and Madeira)
    Poland
    Romania
    Slovakia
Spain: the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands only
    Switzerland
    Aruba
    Bonaire
    Curaçao
    Saba
    St Eustatius
    St Maarten

Do Wales fans have to quarantine on return from Amsterdam?
The Netherlands is currently on the UK amber list.
That means unless the country is moved to the green list in this week’s review of the traffic light system, Wales fans will have to self-isolate for ten days on their return to the UK.
Wales fans will also have to take a lateral flow test before boarding the plane.
And before they fly, they will have to book PCR tests for Day 2 and Day 8 after landing.
If you want to end quarantine on Day 7, you can take a further PCR test on Day 5 as part of the Test to Release scheme, but you will still have to take the Day 2 and Day 8 tests. More

Gareth Southgate warns England stars to avoid hugging club team-mates at Euro 2020 after Billy Gilmour coronavirus scare

GARETH SOUTHGATE will order England stars to avoid  contact with club-mates from other nations due to  Covid.Mason Mount and Ben  Chilwell are isolating ahead of Tuesday night’s Czech Republic clash after hugging Scotland pal Billy Gilmour, who  tested positive.

Boss Southgate said: “I don’t think the players need us to warn them after what’s  happened today  but, for sure, we will.”
The Three Lions pair potentially broke protocols by embracing Chelsea team-mate Gilmour after Friday’s goalless draw.
They then continued the close contact down the tunnel.
Lions midfielder Declan Rice faces West Ham team-mates Tomas Soucek  and Vladimir Coufal at Wembley.
And Southgate admits opposing players at Euro 2020 have been hugging and talking to club pals.
Southgate explained: “You can see evidence at every match of these interactions.
“These sorts of things do serve as a reminder that we are under a  different sort of spotlight to most parts of the community.
“And we are at higher risk of being forced to miss matches or whatever else.”

England are set to discover today whether the duo will be allowed to link up with the team for the final Group D clash.
Chilwell was due to play at left-back and midfielder Mount was certain to play.
But 17-year-old rookie Jude Bellingham is now on standby to come into the team.
Although his team plans are in disarray,  Southgate said: “I’m  not angry or p***ed off really and certainly not with the players. Not with anybody.
“It’s just the fact of  the world we’re living in at the moment.
“We’ve always known we’re trying to be as  vigilant as possible — but there’s always an element of fortune about these situations as well.
“The protocols would be something to do with chatting after the game but I have no idea of all the detail.

“That’s why we’ve taken the decision at this point to isolate them both.
“That’s why we are now  having to have the discussions with Public Health England.
“We don’t know exactly where everything sits on this one yet.
“Of course, it’s not ideal but we’ve always known this could happen.
“Every team in the tournament has been sort of living with this fear — and some have already had to deal with it.
“We’re the latest to have that disruption and we’ve just got to get on and deal with
“I’m not frustrated. I’m somebody who understands that, when you’re a manager, you can have a training session and you lose a player to injury the day before a game and you have to adapt.
“I’ve never been one to throw something at the physio when he’s come  in and told me that a centre-forward has done his ankle the day before the game.

“It’s not the doctor’s fault, it’s not the physio’s fault — that’s just the way it is. Who plays? Somebody else. We crack on.
“We’re not being overzealous in that we’ve got to follow the guidelines.
“We’ve got to make sure that if there is any risk with these two players, then we’ve got to make sure we don’t put any other players at risk.”
England clinched a last-16 spot thanks to results last night to ensure the Three Lions progress as a top third-placed team at the very least.

But confusion remained last night over who told Mount and Chilwell to self-isolate.
Public Health England claim they had not advised the FA or SFA.
The guidelines for elite sport is that close contact constitutes within a metre for 15 minutes or more.

Rio Ferdinand mocked on Twitter after comparing Jurgen Klinsmann to Houdini over correct prediction

RIO FERDINAND was mocked on Twitter after comparing Jurgen Klinsmann to Harry Houdini over a correct prediction. The ex-England defender, 42, appeared on BBC alongside the German for his latest punditry duties of Euro 2020.

Fans on Twitter think he should have said Nostradamus rather than escapologist Houdini, picturedCredit: AP:Associated Press
But he left viewers baffled with his bizarre description.
Klinsmann accurately forecast Denmark to beat Russia and Belgium to score against Finland between the 70th and 75th minutes.
And after Lukas Hradecky’s unfortunate own goal in the 74th, host Gary Lineker praised the former striker for his projections.
Lineker said: “This is what punditry is all about.
“Not only did you say they would wear them down, you also said it would be between the 70th and 75th minute.
“I mean, boy oh boy! Punditry of the tournament.”
But as he finished, Ferdinand simply added: “Houdini.”
However, viewers are convinced he got confused drawing similarities with legendary escapologist and illusionist Houdini – and instead meant future-telling French astrologer Nostradamus.

One said: “Rio Ferdinand responding to Jurgen Klinsmann’s correct prediction of when Belgium would score with ‘Houdini’ may be my moment of the tournament so far.”
Another quipped: “Rio Ferdinand just called Klinsman ‘Houdini’ for correctly predicting when Belgium would score? Doesn’t he mean Nostradamus?
“I thought Rio’s knowledge of a 19th-Century illusionist from Hungary and a 16th-Century French astrologer would be better, I’m disappointed.”
A third added: “I have been in stitches laughing at Rio Ferdinand saying Houdini after Jurgen Klinsmann successfully predicted Denmark’s win.”
It is not the first time this tournament the Manchester United legend has felt the full heat of social media for his TV comments.
How the top pundits of the two channels stack up against each other
On Friday, prior to England’s clash with Scotland, Ferdinand said he had ‘never been so confident’ of a result, backing Gareth Southgate’s men to do the business at Wembley.
He said: “England are going win. I can’t see anything else, I’m telling you.
“I’m confident. I’ve never been so confident about a game in the Championships.”
Despite his wayward prediction, Ferdinand bagged plenty of credit on Saturday morning for the way he broke down the tactics of the match.

Italy’s Prime Minister wants Euro 2020 final moved from Wembley to Rome due to rise in Covid cases

ITALY’S prime minister wants the Euro 2020 final moved from London to Rome after a surge in Covid cases in Britain.Mario Draghi said he will do all he can to stop the sporting extravaganza being held at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, July 11.

He said he wanted the game to be held in Rome rather than in LondonCredit: EPA
“Yes… I will try to stop the final being held in a country where infections are rising quickly,” he said, before adding he wants the game to be played in the Italian capital instead.
“I advocate that the final should not take place in a country in which the risk of infection is very big.”
He was speaking ahead of a meeting with German chancellor Angela Merkel.
She has also expressed concern about the rise in cases of the Delta variant across the UK.
Draghi’s pledge came as his country reported 21 coronavirus-related deaths on Monday and 495 new cases.
On the same day the UK recorded just five deaths and 10,633 new cases.
But although cases remain relatively high, hospitalisations and deaths are still not as bad as they were in previous waves of the pandemic.
According to Italian news agency ANSA, a source at UEFA said there are no plans to ditch England’s national stadium for the big final.

The insider said the “English federation and the English authorities are working closely together successfully to organise the semi-finals and the final of Euro 2020 at Wembley and there are no plans to change the venue for those matches”.
Meanwhile, UEFA is in talks with the British government about increasing the attendance at Wembley Stadium to 65,000 for the semi-finals and final.
Earlier we reported how the final is almost certain to stay at Wembley after a stoppage-time deal between ministers and Uefa.
Boris Johnson’s team were last night scrambling to stop the last three games of the tournament being switched to Hungary amid a major travel row.
The Sun can reveal Downing Street is on the cusp of an agreement with organisers to allow quarantine-free travel for VIPs.
It could see up to 75,000 fans allowed in to watch the final at the stadium. However last night the Italians threw a spanner in the works by saying it should be stripped from Wembley because of Covid rates.
The Three Lions line up against the Czech Republic tomorrow night, with a win guaranteeing another game at Wembley, against either France, Germany or Portugal.
If they come second with a draw, they will have to go to Copenhagen for an awkward clash against Spain, Slovakia, Sweden or Poland.
A defeat leaves their fate in the lap of the gods.

Harry Kane will again lead out the side after their drab 0-0 draw with Scotland last week.
Talks are also ongoing over increasing the final’s capacity to between 60,000 and 75,000.
Insiders are confident they will strike a deal within the next 24 hours – staving off any threat of the final being moved to Hungary.
