It’s a tough one to take and I’m gutted but i want to wish the boys all the best tonight in the game, I’ll be cheering you all on. I will make sure i am ready for when i can rejoin the squad. Lets go @England!— Ben Chilwell (@BenChilwell) June 22, 2021

I’m absolutely gutted to have to miss tonight’s game. I’ll be cheering on the boys as usual and ensuring that I’m ready to go again when called upon. Come on @England!— Mason Mount (@masonmount_10) June 22, 2021

Both Chilwell and Mount had close contact with Scotland’s Gilmour during Friday’s 0-0 draw before the Chelsea ace tested positive for coronavirus.
Chilwell tweeted: “It’s a tough one to take and I’m gutted but I want to wish the boys all the best tonight in the game.
“I’ll be cheering you all on. I will make sure I am ready for when I can rejoin the squad. Lets go.”
Mount added: “I’m absolutely gutted to have to miss tonight’s game.
“I’ll be cheering on the boys as usual and ensuring that I’m ready to go again when called upon. Come on England.”
The FA say they have taken the advice of Public Health England but this morning were left with no choice but to send the pair back to St George’s Park.
Though the entire Scotland squad has been cleared to continue playing, the FA were pointed to strict PHE guidelines which state if a person has close contact for more than 15 minutes, then they have to isolate.

It was deemed the conversation Mount and Chilwell had with Gilmour in the tunnel after Friday’s Group D draw was enough to enact those guidelines.
Mount and Chilwell will now train alone at St George’s Park while they serve out their quarantine period up until Monday 28 June.
England’s last-16 match is likely to be played that day or June 29, meaning it is almost certain they will not be considered for the first knock-out stage.
An FA statement said: “We can confirm that Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount must isolate up to and including next Monday [28 June]. This decision has been taken in consultation with Public Health England.
“The pair were confirmed overnight as close contacts of Scotland’s Billy Gilmour after his positive COVID-19 test following last Friday’s match.

“Chilwell and Mount will isolate and train individually in private areas at England’s training base St. George’s Park, with the rest of the squad returning there after tonight’s fixture against Czech Republic at Wembley.
“We will continue to follow all COVID-19 protocols and the UEFA testing regime, while remaining in close contact with PHE.
“The entire England squad and staff had lateral flow tests on Monday and all were again negative, as was the case with Sunday’s UEFA pre-match PCR tests.
“Further tests will be carried out as and when appropriate.”

And now it has been confirmed Wembley can boast a 75 per cent capacity for the games on July 6, 7 and 11.
That means there will be around 60,000 welcomed inside the national stadium – easily the highest attendance at any event in the UK since the first lockdown was enforced in March 2020.
Last week it was revealed around 40,000 fans would be allowed in for the knockout stage games, but that number has now been sharply increased.
Fans wanting to get tickets for the game will need to show proof of full vaccination or a negative coronavirus test.
Uefa are yet to reveal how ticketing will work, but it’s believed those who lost their original tickets for the showpiece games in the re-ballot will be at the front of the queue.
Culture secretary Oliver Dowden said: “We are thrilled that more fans will now be able to walk through the Wembley turnstiles and enjoy the finals of Euro 2020.
“As we continue to make progress on our roadmap out of lockdown, keeping the public safe remains our top priority.
“We have worked extremely closely with Uefa and the FA to ensure rigorous and tight public health measures are in place whilst allowing more fans to see the action live.
“The finals promise to be an unforgettable moment in our national recovery from the pandemic.”

Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin said: “It is great news that so many fans will be able to watch the final three matches of the Euro 2020 at Wembley.
“The last 18 months have taught us – both on and off the pitch – how integral fans are to the fabric of the game.
“This tournament has been a beacon of hope to reassure people that we are returning to a more normal way of life and this is a further step along that road.
“I am grateful to the Prime Minister and the UK Government for their hard work in finalising these arrangements with us, to make the tournament final stages a great success in Wembley.”
FA chief executive Mark Bullingham said: “It is great that the Government has agreed to allow over 60,000 fans in Wembley for the final three matches of the tournament.
“It’s amazing how much atmosphere fans have been able to generate so far, so to have three times as many will be fantastic.
“We have always said that fans are the lifeblood of the game, so it’s brilliant that so many will get a chance to see the tournament finale.
“We hope that this programme lays the foundation for the safe return of fans in stadiums all across the country next season.”

Which teams have qualified for Euro 2020 last 16 and have England gone through?

THE group stages of Euro 2020 are coming to a close – and there’s been drama aplenty. With 16 places up for grabs in the next round, there’s all to play for in the remaining games this week.

Here’s all you need to know about the teams that have gone through so far.
Which teams have qualified for the Euro 2020 last 16?
The following teams have qualified for the Euro 2020 last 16:

    Italy
    Belgium
    Holland
    Wales
    Austria
    England
    Switzerland
    Czech Republic
    Sweden
    France
    Denmark

The Italians followed up their 3-0 win over Turkey by hammering Switzerland by the same scoreline to make it through to the last 16.
And a 1-0 win over Wales made it a clean sweep for the Italians – but also saw the Welsh finish second and go through.
Switzerland will be forced to wait to see if they can qualify after a 3-1 win over Turkey saw them secure third in Group A.
Belgium have qualified from Group B after seeing off Denmark 2-1 in Copenhagen, while Holland have been confirmed as Group C winners following victory over Austria.
After Denmark’s incredible win over Russia, every team who has four points will now be guaranteed a spot in the last-16.
As such, England are through ahead of their game against the Czech Republic.
The Three Lions can even afford to lose at Wembley – they would still qualify as one of the top-ranked third-placed teams.

How many points will be enough to qualify?
In Euro 2016, Northern Ireland were the lowest ranked third placed team to qualify, with three points and a goal difference of zero.
And exactly the same points total and goal difference will be enough to take teams that finish third through this time.
That’s because Finland are the lowest ranked third place team with three points and a goal difference of -2, followed by Ukraine with a goal difference of -1. More

Pictures show the close-knit group on the Lord’s pitch soaking up the surroundings.
It may not have been some players’ idea of entertainment but boss Gareth Southgate appeared to be in his element while locked in a conversation with a senior official.
The Three Lions head into their final group game having already qualified for the Round of 16.
Southgate’s squad head into the contest in unusual circumstances knowing a draw would see them finish second and therefore earn an easier draw in the knockout stage.
A victory is likely to see England face world champions France, Germany or Portugal while they could face Slovakia or Sweden if they finish second.
Kane, who has failed to score in his opening two matches, will start as he looks to regain some form.
But the England boss will be without duo Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell following Billy Gilmour’s positive Covid-19 test.
The Chelsea pair have been ordered to self-isolate until June 28 despite returning negative coronavirus tests.

Meanwhile Gilmour’s Scotland team-mates have been given the all clear to continue playing.
Mount and Chilwell will now train alone at St George’s Park while they serve out their quarantine period.
England’s last-16 match is likely to be played that day or June 29, meaning it is almost certain they will not be considered for the first knock-out stage.

Gary Lineker slams idea of England coming second in group to get easier last-16 clash and roars ‘stop being cautious’

ENGLAND legend Gary Lineker has urged the Three Lions to win their Euros group and not be ‘so bloody cautious’.Gareth Southgate’s side could land a tie against France, Germany or Portugal in the last 16 if they beat Czech Republic and win Group D tonight.

Lot of rubbish about whether @England i better off losing for easier last 16 game. You play to win every game. Winning gives confidence. If you’re scared of playing France/Germany you’ve got no chance of winning the tournament anyway. Let’s stop being so bloody cautious. Attack!— Gary Lineker 💙 (@GaryLineker) June 22, 2021

And some have suggested that finishing second would provide an easier path to Euros glory as they’d face Poland, Spain, Sweden or Slovakia.
But BBC pundit Lineker – who scored 48 times for his country – wants England to ‘attack’ and get back to winning ways after their 0-0 draw with Scotland.
Lineker tweeted: “Lot of rubbish about whether England better off losing for easier last 16 game.
“You play to win every game. Winning gives confidence.
“If you’re scared of playing France/Germany you’ve got no chance of winning the tournament anyway.
“Let’s stop being so bloody cautious. Attack!”
England are in second place in Group D heading into their clash with Czech Republic.
Southgate’s side beat Croatia in their opener before being held by Scotland last Friday.
A win tonight would seal top spot and a Wembley second round game next Tuesday.

And their opponents would be the runners-up of Group F – France, Germany, Portugal or Hungary – which is decided tomorrow.

There, they would face the runners-up in Group E – Spain, Sweden, Poland or Slovakia – which is also decided tomorrow. More

How Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell could return for England’s last-16 clash… but it’s all down to Czech Republic result

MASON MOUNT and Ben Chilwell COULD return for England’s last-16 clash – but it all depends on tonight’s game against Czech Republic. The Chelsea duo have been placed into ten-day isolation after they were deemed to have been in close contact with Billy Gilmour, who later tested positive for coronavirus.
Mount and Chilwell could return for England’s last-16 clash despite being forced into isolation for ten days after coming into close contact with Billy GilmourCredit: Alamy
Mount and Chilwell were seen talking with and hugging the Scotland ace after Friday’s 0-0 draw at Wembley.
The Three Lions team-mates have since been ordered to isolate for TEN days, meaning they can’t return to action until Tuesday June 29.
Mount and Chilwell will therefore definitely miss tonight’s game against Czech Republic.
But they COULD return for the last-16 – depending on how the final group-stage game unfolds.
    IF ENGLAND WIN TONIGHT
England must beat the Czechs in order to win Group D.
Should they top the standings, they will take on the runners-up in Group F – one of France, Germany, Hungary or Portugal – in the last-16.
That that game will be played on June 29 – the day AFTER Mount and Chilwell’s final day of isolation.
    IF ENGLAND DRAW TONIGHT
If England draw against the Czechs and finish second in the group, their last-16 clash will be against the runners-up of Group E – one of Spain, Slovakia, Sweden or Poland – on June 28.
As things stand, that’s the final day of the Chelsea pair’s isolation period, meaning they would not be an option for Gareth Southgate.

    IF ENGLAND LOSE TONIGHT
A loss for England could see them finish the group in third place should Scotland beat Croatia and wipe out their three-goal goal deficit.
There are three possible scenarios should England slip to third.
One sees them play Holland at 5pm on Sunday June 27 – during which Mount and Chilwell will still be isolating.
Another would see them face the winners of Group B – most-likely Belgium – at 8pm on June 27… also too soon.
The final option would see Mount and Chilwell back in time, with a game against the Group E winners (Spain, Sweden, Slovakia or Poland) at 8pm on Tuesday June 29 – the day AFTER the isolation period ends.
For now, Mount and Chilwell will train alone at St George’s Park while they serve out their quarantine period up to and including Monday June 28.
Even when they return they will likely be sorely lacking in match practice and sit on the bench until at least the quarter-final stage.
However, depending on the outcome of the Czech Republic clash, they could yet play a part in the last-16.

Uefa ban Germany request to turn stadium rainbow coloured at Euro 2020 because of ‘political context’ after Neuer probe

UEFA have denied Germany’s request to illuminate the Allianz Arena in all the colours of the rainbow due to ‘political’ reasons.Munich mayor Dieter Reiter had asked Europe’s governing body if they could light up Bayern’s stadium in protest to a new law passed in Hungary.

Uefa recently revealed Germany and Manuel Neuer will face no punishment after the captain wore a rainbow armband in support of Pride Month in games against France and PortugalCredit: Getty
The newly-introduced law prohibits the sharing of content believed to promote homosexuality and/or gender change to Under-18s.
The rainbow is a symbol of LGBTQ+ pride, with German officials hoping to make a stand with the eyes of the world focused on Euro 2020.
But Uefa say they must ‘decline’ due to being a ‘neutral organisation’ and suggested other date for the Allianz Arena to host its colourful protest.
A statement read: “Racism, homophobia, sexism, and all forms of discrimination are a stain on our societies – and represent one of the biggest problems faced by the game today.
“Discriminatory behaviour has marred both matches themselves and, outside the stadiums, the online discourse around the sport we love.
“However Uefa, through its statutes, is a politically and religiously neutral organisation.
“Given the political context of this specific request – a message aiming at a decision taken by the Hungarian national parliament – Uefa must decline this request.”
The statement continued: “Uefa understands the intention is to send a message to promote diversity and inclusion.

“[That’s] a cause Uefa has been supporting for many years – having joined forces with European clubs, national teams and their players, launching campaigns and plenty of activities all over Europe to promote the ethos that football should be open to everyone.
“And consequently, Uefa has proposed alternative dates for the illumination which align better with existing events.
“Uefa has proposed to the city of Munich to illuminate the stadium on either June 28 – the Christopher Street Liberation Day – or between July 3-9, which is the Christopher Street Day week in Munich.”
During games against Portugal and France, Germany captain Manuel Neuer, 35, has worn a rainbow armband in support of Pride Month.
Uefa opened an investigation whether it could be viewed as a political statement.
However, Uefa have now concluded there is no case to answer, given Neuer was ‘promoting a good cause’.
The German Football Association said it had received a letter from Uefa confirming the matter should be considered closed.
It had been feared that Germany could have been FINED for their support of Pride Month with Uefa statutes prohibiting ‘political’ signs being made during matches.

How can Scotland qualify for Euro 2020 last 16 when they play Croatia, and can they finish second in Group D?

SCOTLAND kept their chances of qualifying for the Euro 2020 last 16 alive with a crucial point away to England.Steve Clarke’s men were beaten 2-0 at home by the Czech Republic in their opening match at Hampden as Patrik Schick scored from the halfway line.
Scotland still have a chance of qualifying for the Euro 2020 last 16Credit: Getty
But there’s still all to play for after a battling performance at the Home of Football.
How can Scotland qualify for the Euro 2020 last 16?
Scotland’s chances of qualifying are boosted by the fact that the best four third placed teams from the six groups will progress to the last 16.
However, they are not helped by the fact that head-to-head record is the first method used to split teams level on points in Uefa competitions.
That means if Scotland were to finish level on points with the Czech Republic, the Czechs would be placed higher in the group because of their 2-0 win.

For Scotland to be certain of qualification, they must finish second.
For that to happen, the Scots must beat Croatia and hope the Czech Republic beat England by enough of a margin to secure a four-goal swing against the Three Lions.
However, the Scots can qualify if they finish as one of the four best third placed teams.
That means they must win against the Croats and wait on other results.
Should Scotland fail to beat Croatia, they will be eliminated regardless of what happens in the other games.

At Euro 2016, the lowest ranked third placed team to qualify from their group was Northern Ireland.
They finished with three points and a goal difference of zero. More
