Watch Bukayo Saka take off shirt after Raheem Sterling scores winner for England vs Czech Republic leaving fans baffled

ENGLAND wonderkid Bukayo Saka whipped off his shirt after being involved in Raheem Sterling’s winning goal – leaving fans baffled. The 19-year-old Arsenal star was a surprise starter for the Three Lions’ 1-0 Wembley win over Czech Republic.

Saka taking off his shirt to celebrate a pre-assist. What a hunk— Ben (@RampantRico) June 22, 2021

Boss Gareth Southgate made four changes after the dour 0-0 draw against Scotland – and it took only 12 minutes for it to have an effect.
Fellow new-boy Jack Grealish chipped in for Raheem Sterling to nod home his second goal of the tournament to send England top of Group D.
Saka was heavily involved in the move, making a beautiful run forward to start the counter.
At half-time Arsenal legend Ian Wright was full of praise for the prodigy, describing how he is “burdened with glorious purpose”.
After the ball hit the back of the net Saka proceeded to take off his shirt.
And it left England fans pretty confused.
Most were left asking ‘why’ – as it wasn’t the Londoner who scored the goal.
One fan was pretty impressed that he ‘celebrated a pre-assist’, adding ‘what a hunk’.

Brilliant by Grealish, but Saka was brilliant there too.. very confused as to why his shirt came off though?!— David Upton (@DavidUpton97) June 22, 2021

Did I miss something? Why did Saka take his shirt off? He didn’t score lmao— King Kun MCFC (@KingKunGoat) June 22, 2021

Lol Saka took off his shirt like he’s the one who scored 😫— Chip (@chip12k) June 22, 2021

Fan David Upton admitted he was ‘confused’ as to why the teenager did that, but described his part in the goal as ‘brilliant’.
Some were wondering whether the England ace thought he had actually scored.
And it soon became apparent why he did it – Saka was seen hurling off the vest he had put on underneath.
Topping the group means the Three Lions now face a potential horror clash in the last-16, with France, Germany or Portugal all potential opponents.

Jack Grealish ‘has country in his hands,’ says Neville – and can be part of secret England formula to win Euro 2020

JACK GREALISH can be KEY to England winning the Euros, says Machester United legend Gary Neville. The Aston Villa star, 25, made his full tournament debut as England beat Czech Republic 1-0 at Wembley on Tuesday night – and played a crucial part as he set up the winning goal.

And former England right-back Neville reckons the maverick playmaker can help take the Three Lions all the way – with a solid defensive block behind him.
Speaking on ITV, Neville said: “Gareth Southgate has got to think how to win this tournament and outplay Spain, Belgium, France.
“It’s sensible to think we can win it a different way.
“Jack wins free-kicks and penalties which England were good at last time [at 2018 World Cup].
“We need six at the back to keep the clean sheets and the four in attack to go and win the games.”
Neville added: “He’s a player within any game to take responsibility and has the desire to get on the ball.
“Honestly I think he has the country in his hands.
“They want that Wayne Rooney moment in 2004, Gazza in 1990 – I hope he delivers.

“That mischievious smile, he believes in himself.
“He could [set] this tournament alight for England.”
Grealish sat down with ITV prior to the game and described starting for the Three Lions as the ‘one of the best moments’ of his career.
He said: “I always want to be on the pitch. I love that expectation, I thrive off it.
“I like to entertain fans, I loved watching Gazza.
“My YouTube searches at home are of him. He reminds me of myself, he loved a football at his feet.
“I will treat it like any other game – but I want to score more than in any other game.”

England secured a 1-0 win to top Group D at Wembley, with Grealish brilliantly setting up Raheem Sterling’s winner.
After some good play down the right by fellow new boy Bukayo Saka, the ball feel to Grealish, who glided past his defender and stood up a cross for Sterling to head home.
However, topping the group means the Three Lions now face a potential horror clash in the last-16, with France, Germany or Portugal all potential opponents.

Croatia 3 Scotland 1: Heartbroken Scots crash OUT of Euro 2020 after Vlasic, Modric and Perisic goals

HEARTBROKEN Scotland added another glorious failure to their extensive catalogue of hard luck stories as they waved goodbye to the Euros.Turns out they can’t boogie all night long after all.

Luka Modric guides a sumptuous effort past David MarshallCredit: Reuters
But it took a special goal from a special player to end their dreams of making it to the knock-out stages of a major international tournament for the first time.
Luka Modric might be three months short of his 36th birthday but has lost none of the magic which won him the Ballon D’Or three years ago.
And just when it was looking as if it might be the 2018 World Cup finalists heading for an early exit, it was the little maestro who guided his country to qualification.
His 62nd minute goal, curled into the top corner with the outside of his right boot, was a thing of beauty to settle this winner-takes-all clash.
And Scotland’s fate was well and truly sealed quarter of an hour later when Modric’s corner was glanced in off the far post by Ivan Perisic.
It was a bitter pill to swallow for Steve Clarke and his team, who ran themselves into the ground in pursuit of the victory which would have clinched their place in the promised land of the last 16.
And no-one could fault the efforts of a team who left everything out there but still came up just short once again.
And they will return home with thoughts of what might have been after briefly lifting the hopes of an entire nation.

The Hampden roar certainly made it sound as though there were a hell of a lot more than 12,000 fans in the Croat-free crowd.
With Flower of Scotland still ringing in their ears, Clarke’s men were out of the blocks quicker than Usain Bolt as they looked to batter their opponents into an early submission.
But Croatia refused to be cowed as they slowly started to take control with their patient passing game.
The first alarm bells started to sound for the Scots when David Marshall was forced to race out of his area to clear from the advancing Bruno Petkovic.
And seconds later he was picking the ball out of his net when Ivan Perisic headed down a 17th minute cross from Josip Jovanovic for Nikola Vlasic to hook home from close in.
It felt as if someone had applied a huge pin to the Tartan bubble, but if the Scotland supporters were deflated, their players were anything but.
And instead of meekly accepting their fate they simply rolled up their sleeves and redoubled their efforts to keep their dreams alive.
John McGinn was unable to capitalise on two fine chances to level as Croatia suddenly started to look rattled.

Callum McGregor sweeps Scotland levelCredit: PA
And when the goal which Scotland had been waiting for all tournament finally arrived in the 42nd minute, the Tartan Army went McMental.
Croatia spurned two opportunities to clear crosses from Stuart Armstrong and Andy Robertson and when Domagoj Vida could only get the ball as far as the edge of the area Callum McGregor was lurking with intent.
McGregor had never scored in his previous 33 appearances for his country but when his opportunity came he seized it like a seasoned finisher with an unerring low shot beyond the reach of keeper Dominik Livakovic.
It was the goal of a lifetime from the Celtic midfielder who had once had a spell on loan at Notts County with a certain Jack Grealish.
But that was to be as good as it got for the Scots as McGinn missed another glorious opportunity to fire his team ahead before Modric showed him how it should be done.
Still, at least they will have the memory of holding the English to a goalless draw to keep them warm for the next few years.

Southgate says Euro 2020 Covid-19 rules ‘full of contradictions’ as Mount and Chilwell miss England vs Czech Republic

ENGLAND manager Gareth Southgate criticised coronavirus rules that left Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell out of the win over Czech Republic. The Three Lions topped Group D after a 1-0 victory at Wembley – but were without two key players due to Covid-19 restrictions that Southgate described as “full of contradictions”.

Mount and Chilwell were ordered to self-isolate for 10 days after being deemed close contacts of Scotland international Billy Gilmour, who tested positive for coronavirus after the two nations’ goalless draw last week.
The England chief said the Chelsea duo were “hugely disappointed” to miss the final group game.
The 50-year-old coach could not understand why he was without two players whereas Scotland manager Steve Clarke has a full squad – bar Gilmour – at his disposal.
Southgate told ITV: “They [Mount and Chilwell] are hugely disappointed to miss the games.

“We just have to get on with it. It is a bizarre situation, they have spent 120 seconds too long in a fairly open space.
“It is full of contradictions for me but we will get on with it.
“Frankly, I don’t understand it at all because there are teams travelling around by planes, coach and by bus in enclosed spaces for hours and our two boys have been pinged. I really don’t get it.

“I’ve no issue for Steve and for Scotland, I don’t want them to have any more issues than we’ve had, it just seems a bizarre situation.”
Southgate is also facing the real prospect of missing Mount and Chilwell from England’s last-16 fixture after they topped Group D.
The Three Lions face a potential horror tie against France, Portugal, Germany, or Hungary next Tuesday.
That is the day after the Chelsea pair are due to rejoin the group, but the pai still may lack the necessary fitness.
Southgate added: “Even that is going to be very difficult given the training schedule and the need to isolate.”

England face Germany or France or Portugal in horror last-16 Euro 2020 clash after win against Czech Republic

ENGLAND will play Germany, France, Portugal or Hungary in the last 16 of the Euros after beating Czech Republic. The Three Lions’ narrow 1-0 win at Wembley tonight ensured they finished top of Group D.

And that means they have a horror last-16 clash with the runners-up from ‘Group of Death’ Group F on Tuesday, June 29 at 5pm – again, under the Arch.
As things stand, old rivals Germany sit second in that group with three points but they still have one game to play, on Wednesday night.
But it could also be a meeting with World Cup winners France, or defending European Champions Portugal, led by Cristiano Ronaldo.
France are currently top of Group F on four points with Germany ahead of Portugal on goal difference while Hungary are fourth on one.
Didier Deschamps’ side take on Portugal and Germany host Hungary at 8pm tomorrow to determine the final standings.
The world champions opened with a 1-0 win over Germany but only managed a 1-1 draw with Hungary.
Portugal, the holders, ran out 3-0 winners over the Hungarians but were stunned 4-2 by Die Mannschaft in their second game.
If England do end up facing Germany, the Wembley showdown will be the latest instalment in one of the biggest rivalries in world football.

It has been that way since 1966, when the Three Lions gloriously won 4-2 at Wembley in the World Cup final.
The last time England played Germany at a major tournament was the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, when the Germans dished out a painful 4-1 thrashing.
And you have to go back 21 years for the last time the rival nations have met at the Euros.
In 2000, Alan Shearer scored the only goal of the game as England won 1-0 in Charleroi, Belgium.

The teams last met in November 2017, when they played out a 0-0 draw at Wembley in a friendly.
At Wembley this evening, Bukayo Saka and Jack Grealish – making their full tournament debuts – ran Czech Republic ragged in the opening half.
And with just 12 minutes played, the pair were heavily involved in England’s goal.
Saka drove upfield before the ball came to Grealish in the left channel and the Aston Villa captain stood up a perfect cross for Raheem Sterling to nod in at the back post.
Jordan Henderson thought he had scored his first Three Lions goal but saw his late effort chalked up by the linesman’s offside flag.

Koke has brilliant response to Van der Vaart after ex-Holland ace launches damning attack on Spain’s Euro 2020 squad

SPAIN have extra motivation to beat Slovakia tonight from an unlikely source — former Spurs star Rafael van der Vaart. The Dutchman, 38, has angered the La Roja flops ahead of their Group E crunch, which they must win to guarantee their place in the Last 16.

After seeing them draw both opening matches with Sweden and Poland, ex-Real Madrid ace Van der Vaart said: “I hope we end up playing them.
“They don’t have anything in that team. The only thing they do is pass the ball from one side to the other, they don’t have a player who knows how to make a  definitive pass.”
The comments from a member of the Holland side beaten 1-0 by Spain in the 2010 World Cup final have not gone down well with current crop of stars.
Midfielder Koke, 29, revealed: “At our training base we have a picture of Iniesta’s goal  with him next to him.
    “We will remember these words.”
Winger Pablo Sarabia, 29, added: “He made a mistake with those comments. He has messed up.
“The only memory I have of him is the 2010 World Cup — and it didn’t go too well for him.”
This is Spain’s worst start to a Euros since 1996, but asked if he feared the sack should they fail to qualify coach Luis Enrique just laughed at a TV reporter.

He then added: “Luis Enrique was born an optimist and he’ll die an optimist.”
Enrique will be boosted by the return of captain Sergio Busquets, 32, following his Covid scare.
Slovakia are currently second in the table on three points, one point and one place above Spain.

Skipper Marek Hamsik, 33, said: “Everyone’s surprised by how Spain have done, but it doesn’t really mean anything to us.
“We will need to be compact in defence — but we will need to attack and pose a threat as well. We cannot just sit back.
“Spain are favourites but we hope to cause an upset.”
