Cristiano Ronaldo not first sport star to start war with sponsors as video of UFC ace Adesanya’s Monster feud goes viral

CRISTIANO RONALDO caused a stir by moving two Coca-Cola bottles during a Euro 2020 press conference – but he isn’t the first professional athlete to remove a sponsor’s product from the view of cameras. The Juventus hitman made headlines last week by removing the bottles of Coke ahead of a pre-match press conference.

Ronaldo, 36, then picked up a bottle of water and shouted: “Agua.”
The Portuguese’s actions made waves across the globe – so much so Coca-Cola’s share values dropped a staggering £2.84billion.
But the ex-Man Utd man isn’t the first athlete to stick to event sponsors.
A few days removed from Ronaldo’s stunt, footage of UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya removing cans of Monster Energy started doing the rounds on social media.
Adesanya first removed an empty can of the energy drink during a press conference in Australia in February 2019.
As he removed it, the Nigerian-born Kiwi asked: “Why don’t they fill these up? It’s silly.”
BETTING SPECIAL: GET ENGLAND TO BEAT GERMANY AT 14/1

The clip also showed The Last Stylebender throwing away another empty can before speaking at the UFC 243 post-fight press conference.
But unlike his previous removal, Adesanya didn’t say a word.
The fan favourite took a more subtle approach in the UFC 253 post-fight press conference, opting to cover a can up with his belt.
But he wasn’t so sly during the UFC 259 pre-fight presser, in which cameras caught him picking up a can and putting it on the floor.
Adesanya has yet to explain why he repeatedly removes the cans of Monster.
UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya regularly removes cans of Monster from plain sight

But one thing is for sure, his actions don’t have anywhere near the same effect on Monsters’ share value as Ronaldo’s.
Several Euro 2020 stars have followed in Ronaldo’s suit, with Italy and France midfielders Manuel Locatelli and Paul Pogba removing bottles of Coke and Heineken respectively.
But UEFA has warned players they risk being fined if they move any items from the tournament’s sponsors from the view of cameras.
Euro 2020 tournament director Martin Kalle, said: “It is important because the revenues of the sponsors are important for the tournament and for European football.
“We are never fining players directly from the Uefa side, we will do this always through the participating national association and then they could look if they will go further to the player, but we are not going directly for the moment to the player.”

Supercomputer predicts rest of Euro 2020 results with England FINALLY beating Germany but suffering final heartbreak

ENGLAND will finally beat Germany when they meet in their epic Euro 2020 last 16 showdown, according to a supercomputer. But the Three Lions are set to suffer heartbreak in the final as the long wait for a major tournament win rages on.
England are set to reach the final but lose to France at Wembley according to a supercomputer

Gareth Southgate’s squad rose to the top of Group D, beating Croatia and Czech Republic to set up a first knockout stage clash with the runners-up of the Group of Death.
England now face old rivals Germany, having not beaten them at a major tournament since the Euro 2000 group stage.
The Three Lions lost to the Germans in huge games such as the Euro 96 and Italia 90 semi-finals – both on penalties – as well as the last-16 of the 2010 World Cup.
But England WILL beat Germany on Tuesday evening at Wembley, according to bettingexpert.com’s supercomputer.
Sweden will triumph over Ukraine in their last-16 tie, setting up a quarter-final showdown with England.
And the Three Lions will survive that test too and will go up against Holland in the semi-finals.
According to the simulation, Holland will beat Czech Republic and Denmark – with the Danes bettering Wales in the last 16 – to reach the last-four.
England will avenge their 2018-19 Nations League semi-final battering to reach the final – against 2018 World Cup winners France.
BETTING SPECIAL: GET ENGLAND TO BEAT GERMANY AT 14/1

The supercomputer reckons France will beat neighbours Switzerland, Spain and Italy en route to the showpiece game at Wembley on July 11.
In what would be England’s first major tournament final since their 1966 World Cup win on home soil, the French will prove too strong for Southgate’s youthful squad.
And for the Three Lions and fans, 55 years of hurt is set to rage on – at least until next winter’s 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
On the simulation, a bettingexpert.com spokesperson said: “Despite some pessimism around England’s performance in the group stages, our supercomputer predicts them to make it all the way to the final.
“But France look too strong and, having come through a more difficult side of the draw, have the backing of the data to go one better than in 2016 and lift the trophy at Wembley.
“That will make for a sorry sight for the locals, but finishing as runners-up would represent real progress for Southgate and his young squad.”

Watch Rashford nutmeg Saka in England training as relaxed stars work out ahead of Euro 2020 showdown with Germany

ENGLAND’s newest superstar Bukayo Saka was brought back to earth in savage style by team-mate Marcus Rashford. The Arsenal teen – who was man of the match in Tuesday’s win over Czech Republic – was cheekily nutmegged by Rashford in training on Friday.

England posted a video of the moment which left Saka, 19, red-faced and his team-mates in hysterics.
Gareth Southgate’s men looked relaxed as they hit the training pitches at St George’s Park to ramp up their preparations for Germany.
The Three Lions are just four days away from facing their rivals in a mammoth Euro 2020 second-round showdown at Wembley.
Southgate put his squad through their paces on Friday to gear up for Joachim Low’s men.
The England manager had a beaming smile on his face as he spoke to coach Chris Powell.
Raheem Sterling, who has scored both England goals in the tournament so far, was among the group on the training pitch.
And Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, who could well be joining Sterling at Man City, looked to be having fun.
Bundesliga stars Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham also trained with their Three Lions team-mates on Friday.

Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount are still missing and out until next Monday having been forced to isolate.
The Chelsea pair were deemed close contacts of Scotland’s Billy Gilmour – who tested positive for Covid – and missed Tuesday’s win over Czech Republic.
England finished top of their group with the 1-0 victory to set up a showdown with Germany.
The 2014 World Cup winners needed a late equaliser against Hungary on Wednesday to stave off elimination.
And their reward for finishing second behind France in Group F is a trip to Wembley to take on the Three Lions.
But they face doing so without many fans in attendance due to travel complications.
England fans could be given an extra 7,400 tickets for Tuesday’s showdown.
German supporters are unable to travel to the UK and complete a quarantine period in time for the second-round clash at Wembley.
BETTING SPECIAL: GET ENGLAND TO BEAT GERMANY AT 14/1

And that means their allocation of 7,400 tickets could be there to be claimed for Three Lions fans, the Telegraph reports.
The game was originally meant to be played in Dublin, but Uefa moved it to London with the Irish capital unable to guarantee crowds.
Wembley can hold 45,000 fans for Tuesday’s Euros clash, and some tickets were released online on Wednesday and Thursday.
England supporters will receive an official allocation of 7,400 on Friday.
Germany are due the same amount of tickets, but Covid travel complications may scupper fans’ hopes of a trip to Wembley.
And the Telegraph report states that the German FA could play it safe instead of claiming their allocation.
That would free up the path for more Three Lions fans to cheer on Gareth Southgate’s men against their biggest rivals.

To make it to Tuesday’s Wembley showdown, fans of our old foes would have had to fly out of Germany yesterday to stand any chance of completing a five-day UK quarantine period.
And they would then have to take even more time off work to quarantine for two weeks when they got home thanks to their nation’s draconian Covid crackdown on arrivals from the UK.
Earlier this week, Chancellor Angela Merkel urged EU nations to make all arrivals from the UK quarantine — regardless of whether they are double-jabbed — to halt the spread of the Delta variant.

Alvaro Morata reveals death threats to his children after Euro 2020 misses for Spain and says he is seeing psychologist

ALVARO MORATA has revealed his children have received sick death threats over his Euro 2020 campaign. The Spanish striker has endured a difficult tournament having squandered numerous glaring opportunities in front of goal.

Morata was also ridiculed on social media after missing a penalty in the 5-0 victory over Slovakia.
The ex-Chelsea man, 28, accepted criticism is part and parcel of the game but has been left furious following threats to his family.
Morata has three children with wife Alice Campello – Leonardo aged two, Alessandro, two, and Edoardo, aged eight months.
Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena: “I understand I get criticism for not scoring goals. I’m the first to know and accept it.
“I wish people would put themselves in the position of seeing what it is to receiving threats and insults to your family, ‘I hope your children die,’ [this week] I had to put my phone away.
“[Memes] don’t bother me, but what annoys me is what my wife has to go through.
“My kids go to Seville with their dad’s name on their shirts. Yes [they’ve had things said to them].
“I understand criticism for not doing my job well. But there’s a limit.

“I didn’t sleep for nine hours after the [Poland] game.
“I was angry because I had a chance and Spain couldn’t win.
“I wish people would put themselves in other people’s position. People whistle me because it’s what they hear. Others incite it.”
A number of Spanish fans made their feelings known towards Morata before the tournament when he was booed in a friendly against Portugal.
The Atletico Madrid forward also admitted to seeing a psychologist to help deal with issues off the field.

He added: “It is very good to have a person who understands you and listens to you every time you need him.
“I am afraid of flying, they make fun of me with it and being able to talk about it with him is very good.”
Morata has earned 43 caps for his country and has found the net 20 times.

England vs Germany football results: Head-to-head record as old rivals prepare for in Euro 2020 last-16 clash at Wembley

ENGLAND welcome Germany to Wembley on Tuesday with a spot in the Euro 2020 quarter-finals at stake. But there will also be a healthy dose of pride on offer for two nations with a long and fascinating history of footballing rivalry.

But Die Mannschaft have broken many English hearts over the yearsCredit: Getty – Contributor
An inaugural 3-3 draw in May 1930 was a strong hint of what was to come as the first four meetings between the pair threw out 22 goals.
During this period, England’s dominance showed with seven wins in a row — including an infamous visit to Berlin in 1938 – that culminated in the 1966 World Cup final.
Geoff Hurst’s hat-trick at Wembley may have had a helping hand from a potentially dubious goalline decision (more of that later) but etched his name into English folklore.
To this day, that 4-2 win at Wembley marks the Three Lions’ only World Cup triumph.
Die Mannschaft, then known as West Germany, had already bagged one crown beforehand and now total four World Cup and three European Championship titles.
Fresh off that historic victory, England had to wait nine years for another as they lost three of their next four encounters.
That included an extra-time defeat in the 1970 World Cup quarter-finals and a two-legged exit in the final round of qualifying for Euro 1972.
The next five meetings, including a 0-0 draw in the 1982 World Cup second group stage, were evenly shared before German dominance took hold.

An English victory in the 1985 Azteca 2000 tournament was their last of the century and preceded five consecutive defeats.
Among which were the 1990 World Cup semi-final, taken to penalties thanks to Gary Lineker’s late equaliser in Turin.
But misses from Stuart Pearce and Chris Waddle set in motion a long story of Three Lions shootout failures.
Fast forward to Euro 96 and a similar scene was set, this time at Wembley for a place in the final on English turf.
A 1-1 draw gave way to 11 successful penalties in a row before Gareth Southgate’s effort was comfortably saved by Andreas Kopke to hand the Germans victory.
England would lose in their next four major tournament shootouts before Southgate, as manager, oversaw a 2018 World Cup triumph over Colombia.
The turn of the century heralded plenty more iconic match-ups.
Alan Shearer netted the only goal as the Three Lions helped knock Germany out of the Euro 2000 group stage – before dramatically following them.

Dietmar Hamann scored the last-ever goal at the Old Wembley in a 2002 World Cup qualification victory for Die Mannschaft before England’s revenge in Munich 11 months later.
A stunning Michael Owen hat-trick earned a 5-1 victory and remains the only time the sides have been separated by four goals.
And their most recent major tournament clash came at the 2010 World Cup.
Miroslav Klose and Lukas Podolski set Germany on course for a last-16 cruise before Matt Upson’s header.
Frank Lampard looked to have put England level in Bloemfontein – only for the linesman to miss the ball crossing the line – before Fabio Capello’s side crumbled and lost 4-1.
Four friendlies have come and gone since, which Germany have claimed by two wins to one.

That leaves the overall total, from 32 matches, to read England: 13 wins, Germany: 15 wins, and draws: four.
The Three Lions have the edge in terms of goals scored, with 51 to 42, yet the Germans will happily boast seven major trophies to one.
Will that change next week? Tuesday’s 5pm kick-off could well be the next step in a glorious summer for one of these teams.

The double saw Ronaldo draw level with Iran legend Daei on 109 international goals.
Daei played 149 times for his country between 1993 and 2006, with Ronaldo levelling his tally from 178 matches.
And after his heroics kept Portugal in the tournament – where they will face Belgium in the last-16 – Daei was quick to pay tribute to Ronaldo with a post on Instagram.
Daei wrote: “Congratulations to Cristiano who is now one goal away from breaking the men’s international goal scoring record.
“I am honoured that this remarkable achievement will belong to Ronaldo.
“He’s a great champion of football and caring humanist who inspires and impacts lives throughout the world. Vamos!”
Ronaldo replied with a gushing post of his own, which read: “True champions remain champions forever.
“I’m very proud to read such kind words from a huge idol like you. Thank you, Ali Daei.”

A proud Daei – linked with a coaching role at Everton – added: “I admire his commitment and focus.
“And after reaching so many titles, his passion for the game is like on day one.”
Daei went on to explain playing for the national flag and 80 million fans was all the fuel he needed to keep banging in the goals for Iran.
The ex-Bayern Munich striker added: “After each goal people were so happ.
“And the more the people got happy the more pleasure I had.
“With the national team you were playing for your flag and the 80 million people.”

Gareth Southgate opened up about England Euro 96 penalty hell to squad ahead of Germany clash in last-16

GARETH SOUTHGATE talked to England stars about his Euro 96 penalty agony against Germany – even before Tuesday’s blockbuster game was confirmed.Midfielder Kalvin Phillips has revealed that Southgate relived his fateful miss shortly after the current squad met up for the Euros, as part of a presentation about shootouts.

Phillips said: “In one of the first meetings he showed us the penalty he missed.
“He has a laugh about it now. He tells us all about it.
“We were just speaking about penalty shootouts in general, that to get to the final we’re gonna have to eventually go through a penalty shootout, as every other team has.
“He was speaking of his experiences and of the experiences of when we were in the [2018] World Cup.
“It’s a bit up and down: in his experience it didn’t go too well, but in the World Cup it went well.
“It was a mixture. Just getting to know what people want to do and how people take penalties and stuff like that.”
England have won their last two competitive shootouts – in the last 16 of the World Cup against Colombia and in the third-place play-off of the 2019 Nations League finals against Switzerland.
But the nation will hope it doesn’t come to that and the Three Lions can win in normal time despite managing only two goals in their opening three games.
Phillips insists the team is ready to deliver as an attacking force – but not to expect him to contribute much more going forward after his assist for Raheem Sterling’s goal against Croatia.
The Leeds star told West Yorkshire Sport Daily: “We have a lot of great attacking players.
“A lot of people are saying that we haven’t seen much of them.

“But I see two hours of them every single day. I can tell you they are all very confident and just waiting for the chance to get their name out there.
“I’m a defensive player. In the Croatia game I got an assist and everyone was thinking I would be a number eight getting assists every game.
“But that’s not really what I do. I’m winning the ball back and giving it to the better players!”
