Glenn Hoddle urges brave England star Bukayo Saka to see sports psychologist to overcome penalty shootout heartbreak

He was also targeted with sick racist abuse on social media after England lost to Italy at Wembley.
Brave Saka has a long international career ahead of him, and former Three Lions boss Hoddle thinks a psychologist can help him if he’s faced with another penalty.
Hoddle told Betfair: “The young man needs to try and put it away for the summer, go on holiday and get it out of his mind.
“Then he needs to address it in a positive way and perhaps he’ll get some help with that.
“He could go another ten years in his career before he gets that off his shoulder.
“Or he could do some work with a psychologist, who will sit him down, go through it with him and turn it around so that he embraces it and feels confident taking penalties.
“If he doesn’t do that it’ll take a longer period of time to get out of his system. You gain by experience but you don’t have to wait until you’re 28 or 29 to overcome it.”
Hoddle added: “Visualisation and sports psychology are what he needs, just so he can revisit it in his mind: this time he scores and gets the feeling of scoring.
“Every cell in his body at the moment is thinking about it negatively.
“But go on holiday first, Bukayo, try and switch off and don’t think about it.”

Hoddle, 63, managed England for three years including at the 1998 World Cup.
Saka released a passionate message on social media this week after his penalty heartbreak and racial torment.
Saka wrote: “I have stayed away from social media for a few days to spend time with my family and reflect on the last few weeks.
“This message won’t do it justice how grateful I am for all the love that I have received, and I feel that I need to thank everyone who has supported me.
“It was an honour to be part of an England squad that leads by example, they are brothers for life and I’m grateful for everything that I have learnt from every one of the players and staff who worked so hard.
“To help that team reach our first final in 55 years, seeing my family in the crowd, knowing what they’ve given to help me get there, that meant everything to me.
“There are no words to tell you how disappointed I was with the result and my penalty.

“I really believed we would win this for you. I’m sorry that we couldn’t bring it home for you this year.
“But I promise you that we will give everything we’ve got to make sure this generation knows how it feels to win.
“My reaction post match said it all, I was hurting so much and I felt like I’d let you all and my England family down, but I can promise you this…
“I will not let that moment or the negativity that I’ve received this week break me.”

Norris was getting into his £165,000 McLaren GT after the game when he was targeted on Sunday night.
He has spoken about his terrifying ordeal and how it left him shaken.
Norris – who will race in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in front of 140,000 fans this weekend – had a replacement on his wrist on Friday.
The 21-year-old turned up to his Friday press conference in his McLaren team gear while wearing the new piece with an orange strap that matched his jacket.
Norris will also wear a custom helmet this weekend in front of his home fans thanking key workers.
The white helmet is filled with messages of support for those on the front line during the Covid pandemic.
Wembley descended into a warzone at the Euro final — when 2,500 ticketless, drunken thugs stormed the stadium.
Terrified families called security for the showpiece event a shambles, with fights breaking out around the ground.

Britain’s F1 ace Norris was also mugged for his £40,000 watch after the game with Italy — England’s biggest since 1966.
Norris said after the incident: “Hi world. Thanks for all the messages everyone.
“Really means a lot to see so many messages of kindness and love from you all.
“Thought I’d let you know that I am doing well I’m trying to make sure that I am ready and in the right zone for this weekend to perform at my best.
“Love you all and can’t wait to see so many of you back at the track this weekend.”
Players’ families were caught up in skirmishes, children were    left in tears, a female security guard was trampled and a disabled entrance stormed.
Fans who paid £900 and more for tickets then found yobs in their seats refusing to budge.

Friends and families of stars including captain Harry Kane, John Stones, Raheem Sterling and Harry Maguire also saw trouble unfold as dozens barged into their section.
A source said: “All the players had their kids in there. It was terrifying. The wives, girlfriends and children were all crying. There were a couple of fights.
“None of the relatives or friends had seen anything like this before. They arrived to find seats taken by fans without tickets. And they were rude and really aggressive.
“It got really nasty and was very upsetting. There were not enough stewards and no police in sight.”

Saudi Arabia ‘considering teaming up with Italy to host 2030 World Cup’ in blow to England’s bid

SAUDI ARABIA are considering joining forces with a European country in a bid to host the 2030 World Cup, according to reports. And The Athletic claims the Middle Eastern nation is eyeing Italy as a possible partner in a move that could see both countries rivalling a bid from Britain and the Republic of Ireland.
Italy are reportedly being eyed as potential World Cup 2030 bid partners by Saudi ArabiaCredit: AP
Should the oil-rich state succeed in creating an official team-up with the Euro 2020 champs, it will come as a further knock to Britain and Ireland’s dream of hosting the tournament in nine years’ time.
SunSport reports the joint bid for the two nations has already been marred by the chaotic and violent scenes that preceded the Three Lions Euros final duel with the Azzurri.
Ticketless thugs were seen pushing through barriers and shoving spectators and stadium staff at Wembley ahead of England’s historic clash with Italy.
And 1966 World Cup winner Geoff Hurst is among the influential football figures who fear the incident could harm England’s and the Republic of Ireland’s hosting chances.
Although joint bids have previously been off-putting to football’s authorities, it is reported they are now seen as a useful option given the increase in World Cup entrants.
From 2026 the number of countries competing in the contest will rise to 48 teams with tournament fixtures increasing to 80.
The Athletic claims US firm Boston Consultancy Group is providing guidance to Saudi Arabia on its bid and is reportedly advising them to consider broadening their alliances.

And it is reported that one option for consideration is for Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s state to join up with Egypt and Morocco to host the contest.
However, it is thought that such a partnership would be a massive challenge in terms of logistics and security.
And a European partner such as Italy –  who have already hosted four large-scale international football tournaments in the past 90 years – is thought to be a safer option.
The Athletic adds that the potential of the Saudis investing in the revamp of Italy’s stadiums could be a bonus.
The two nations are reported to enjoy a warm sporting relationship with Saudi set to host the Italian Super Cup in January 2022.
And the country has hosted the contest – which is a match between the Serie A champions and Italy’s cup winners – twice in the past.
However, Saudi Arabia’s human rights records could see a joint bid overshadowed by controversy.

The country made headlines worldwide following the murder of dissident journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.
And it has faced criticism for its involvement in a catastrophic civil war in Yemen.
The nation is also thought to hold considerable diplomatic sway as the largest exporter of oil in the world.

Megan – his school sweetheart and mother of his son – then mouthed the words to the 1998 song back at him.
Three Lions fans were in stitches watching the clip, agreeing it was good to see so many of the players enjoy their downtime after their heroics at Euro 2020.
One who viewed the hilarious video of Pickford wearing just his shorts at the party said: “My keeper JP1.”
Another, Nathan Matthieson, added: “Couldn’t love him anymore than I already do.”
Derek Weston said: “And this is why the world loves Jordan Pickford.”
Gary Smith said: “Good on him. One of England’s top performers. Goalkeeper of the tournament.”
Pickford only conceded two goals throughout the entire Euros – and didn’t let in a single goal in the Three Lions’ first five matches.
He also saved two of Italy’s penalties in the final shootout loss to Roberto Mancini’s men at Wembley last Sunday.

Shaun Drewery, of East Yorkshire, posted a vile slur under a photo of the youngstersCredit: FA
He posted twice under an image of the England Under 17s team alongside a photo of the 1966 World Cup squad.
But social media users sickened by his posts have since shared them thousands of times – leading to a huge backlash.
And now Drewery has admitted writing the young players are “c*****” – but told Hull Live it was just “banter”.
    It comes as:

The moron, who lives in North Ferriby, has been bombarded with zero-rating reviews after one Facebook page encouraged its followers to post their views on him.
And he claims to have installed CCTV and dashcams after receiving death threats.
He told the paper: “I wrote one flippant word, on a post that wasn’t mine, which has been blown massively out of context.
“It was stupid tongue-in-cheek banter – I’ve had so many death threats.”
Drewery made his comments before Sunday’s heartbreaking Euro 2020 final.
But there’s been a huge public backlash after heroes Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Jadon Sancho were targeted following the defeat.
Boris Johnson hauled in social media bosses to blast them for failing to tackle racists, while Instagram, Facebook and Twitter have finally agreed to hand trolls’ details to cops.
A 42-year-old man from Runcorn is the fifth person to have been questioned in connection with claims of abuse.
One comedian has seen a string of shows cancelled after tweeting: “I’m sorry that black guys are bad at penalties.”
And a Savills worker has been quizzed after racist abuse was sent from his Twitter account.
A post from Andrew Bone’s Twitter account branded the players the N-word and claimed the England stars had “ruined it for us” after the loss.
Bone’s family claimed to The Sun his account had been hacked.
Another fan has also been arrested over a disgusting post.

Children’s football coach Nick Scott, 50, initially said he had nothing to do with a vile tweet sent to Rashford.
He later admitted he may have sent it while drunk – and told The Sun: “If I did, I want Marcus to know that I’m truly sorry and I apologise sincerely.”
Drewery said he has received a verbal warning from Humberside Police.

Facebook and Twitter FINALLY hand over details of racist trolls who abused England’s Euro 2020 stars with five arrested

FACEBOOK, Instagram and Twitter have finally handed over the details of racist trolls who abused England’s Euro 2020 stars.Five people have been arrested after heroes Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Jadon Sancho were targeted following England’s heartbreaking defeat.
Social media giants have finally handed over the details of racist trolls after horrific abuse was levelled at Lions heroesCredit: Getty
Social media giants had faced mounting pressure to give up the thugs posting abuse – after bosses were hauled before Boris Johnson for a dressing-down earlier this week.
Chief Constable Mark Roberts, the National Police Chiefs’ Council football policing lead, said the companies are now “working very closely” with the UK Football Policing Unit (UKFPU) to track down the vile trolls.
    It comes as:

Mr Roberts said: “The racial abuse aimed at our own players following Sunday night’s game is utterly vile and has quite rightly shocked and appalled people across the country.
“Our England team have been true role models during the tournament, conducting themselves with professionalism and dignity.
“I’m disgusted there are individuals out there who think it’s acceptable to direct such abhorrent abuse at them, or at anybody else.
“The UKFPU investigation is well under way and work continues to identify those responsible.
“We are working very closely with social media platforms, who are providing data we need to progress inquiries.
“If we identify that you are behind this crime, we will track you down and you will face the serious consequences of your shameful actions.”
A 42-year-old man from Runcorn is the fifth person to have been questioned, Cheshire Police confirmed on Thursday.
The man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of displaying threatening, abusive or insulting written material. He has since been released under investigation pending further inquires.
Saka in a statement on Thursday: “To the social media platforms Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, I don’t want any child or adult to have to receive the hateful and hurtful messages that me, Marcus and Jadon have received this week.
“I knew instantly the kind of hate that I was about to receive and that is a sad reality that your powerful platforms are not doing enough to stop these messages.”
Meanwhile, school meals hero Rashford said: “I can take critique of my performance all day long, my penalty wasn’t good enough, it should have gone in.
“But I will never apologise for who I am and where I came from.”
The UKFPU said that, as of Tuesday, 897 football-related incidents and 264 arrests had been recorded across the country in the 24-hour period surrounding the final.
That took the number of football-related incidents during the tournament to 2,344, and arrests to 630.
Asked about measures to tackle the issue following a speech in Coventry, the Prime Minister acknowledged the Government had “got to go further” than simply extending the scope of football banning orders to include online abuse.
Banning orders exclude people from attending matches for between three and 10 years.
One comedian has seen a string of shows cancelled after tweeting: “I’m sorry that black guys are bad at penalties.”
And a Savills worker has been arrested racist abuse was sent from his Twitter account.
A post from Andrew Bone’s Twitter account branded the players the N-word and claimed the England stars had “ruined it for us” after the loss.

Beckham took to Instagram to share a picture of him and Romeo, 18, both sporting a blond buzz cut.
The Manchester United legend also shared a pic of the two of them with Cruz, 16, who’s gone for a pink hairdo instead.
The post was jokingly captioned with laughing emojis: “Sometimes the boys need reminding who did it first in the 90s.
“By the look on their faces they are not to pleased about it.”
The ex-Real Madrid winger’s oldest son Brooklyn was quick to back his dad’s bright move, commenting: “Looks so cool.”
And wife Victoria reminded her kids: “Dad did do it first and it looks even better this time round!”
Fans were also loving Beckham’s new look, with one responding: “Obviously they look good! But dad did it first and definitely did it better!”

The blond buzz cut, made famous by England legend Paul Gascoigne at Euro ’96, has made a comeback this summer thanks to Foden and Romeo.
The Manchester City youngster emulated Gazza’s iconic style in June ahead of Euro 2020, with the England squad promising to follow suit if they won the tournament.
But it was Romeo who led it’s resurgence in May, showing his three million Insta followers his fresh trim and perhaps inspiring Foden to copy.
Beckham is known for his fashionable haircuts and adopted a blond buzz cut in 2008 while training with Arsenal.
He also famously had highlights during the 90s when United won the treble under iconic manager Alex Ferguson.
