David De Gea ‘prepared to stay and fight for Man Utd future despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signing another goalkeeper’

DAVID DE GEA is determined to stay and fight for a first-team place at Manchester United, according to reports. The Spaniard’s future was cast into doubt after Dean Henderson took his place in the side towards the end of last season.
David De Gea is ready to fight for his place in the Manchester United team
Tom Heaton became United’s fourth keeper this week
And the signing of goalkeeper Tom Heaton this week has sparked further questions about De Gea’s future.
The Red Devils now have four keepers in the squad with Lee Grant putting pen to paper on a new one year deal on Thursday.
But De Gea will attempt to play his way back into the side according to The Times.
He has been at United for ten years and has two more years left on his current contract.
And it is believed that his £375,000 a week wages would prove a sticking point if a club tried to sign him.
Heaton has set his sights on becoming United’s no.1 so could push De Gea and Henderson for game time.

Arsenal transfer boost as Leicester ‘pull out of Odsonne Edouard race as Celtic look for £20m fee for striker’

ARSENAL’S chances of signing Celtic star Odsonne Edouard have increased due to Leicester reportedly withdrawing their interest in the striker.Brendan Rodgers was believed to be keen on Edouard having signed the Frenchman while at Celtic.
Leicester have reportedly ended their interest in Odsonne Edouard
Patson Daka confirmed a switch to the King Power stadium this week
But the Foxes completed a deal forward Patson Daka from RB Salzburg for £23million earlier this week.
Daka has signed a five-year contract and is viewed as Jamie Vardy’s long-term successor.
And according to the Daily Record that deal is expected to end Leicester’s interest in Edouard.
The report claims Leicester do not have enough left in the transfer budget to move for Edouard.
And the Midlands club reportedly expect Celtic will be difficult to deal with when negotiating a deal, as 50 per cent of the transfer fee will be owed to Paris Saint-Germain.
But with Edouard entering the final year of his contract he could move this summer.
Juventus and AC Milan have been linked previously while Liverpool and West Ham are also said to be interested in the 23-year-old.

Chelsea set to make shock Wayne Hennessey contract offer to be back-up keeper after 34-year-old left Crystal Palace

CHELSEA are reportedly interested in signing Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey after he left Crystal Palace. The Eagles released Hennessey, 34, upon the expiration of his contract this summer.
Wayne Hennessey recently left Crystal Palace after eight years at the clubCredit: Reuters
Thomas Tuchel is yet to make a signing at ChelseaCredit: PA
He spent eight years at the club and made 110 appearances in the Premier League but lost his place in the side to Vicente Guaita.
And now Chelsea are set to make a shock move for the veteran, according to the Express.
Willy Cabellero left Stamford Bridge last month and Thomas Tuchel is keen to add experience to his goalkeeping options.
The Blues boss has Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga at his disposal and it is believed Hennessey would act as the third-choice keeper.
He would fulfil a similar role to the one Rob Green performed when he was at Chelsea for the 2018/19 season.
And Hennessey could become Tuchel’s first signing as Chelsea boss.
The 47-year-old is chasing other options however, and will have been alert to the fact Declan Rice recently rejected two West Ham contract offers.

Also, Erling Haaland reportedly expects a move to Chelsea this summer, while Sergio Ramos is another high profile name linked to the club.
It is possible Hennessey will be the first of many to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer.
And such arrivals could help the club get over the disappointment of missing out on targets such as Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku.

David De Gea and Dean Henderson’s Man Utd futures in doubt as club sign up FOUR keepers with pair battling for No1 spot

DAVID DE GEA and Dean Henderson’s futures are in doubt now Manchester United have secured the services of four goalkeepers. The club have signed Tom Heaton on a three-year deal and extended Lee Grant’s stay by a year meaning the club are now overloaded in that department.
David De Gea lost his starting place to Dean Henderson towards the end of last season
One of Henderson or De Gea could leave in search of first-team football
It is clearly a move in preparation for the departure of one of their first-team keepers who shared goalkeeping duties between them last season.
Neither De Gea, 30, or Henderson, 24, want to play second fiddle to the other next season.
Now the Red Devils will wait to see if there are offers for either.
De Gea lost his Premier League first team place for a time towards the end of last season.
Henderson did not fully grasp his opportunity with De Gea returning at the end and taking his place in the Europa League Final.
But he was poor as United drew 1-1 with Villarreal and lost on penalties with De Gea not getting nearing one of the 11 spot-kicks he faced and then crucially missed his own.
The only problem of course in trying to offload De Gea is that he has at least two years left of a £375,000 a year contract left to run.
No club in the world is going to match that with the Spaniard past his best and United may have to negotiate a pay-off to get rid.
Henderson returned to United after a successful loan spell at Sheffield United last season and signed a new five-year deal with the option for the club to extend it by a further year.
He would command a fee of around £40million.

Tom Heaton has joined United on a free transfer
Meanwhile Heaton has returned to United after his contract ran out at Aston Villa, signing a two-year deal with the option for a further year, insisting he has unfinished business to complete.
Heaton, 35, said: “For me, I’m just seeing it as a fantastic opportunity as I still feel I’ve got an awful lot to give and I’ve got the bit between my teeth. It can’t come quickly enough.
“I’m looking forward to come in to compete. My ambition is to get into the side. That’s never been any different. I left the football club to go in search of first-team football, to go and get that experience. I’m coming back here now with a lot more experience.
“It’s been 11 years, I think, since I left. It feels like a long time but I’ve gathered different things since I’ve gone and have come back here now looking to get into the side. I can’t put it any other way.”
Heaton grew up at United but could never break into the first team as he was constantly farmed out on loan before leaving permanently for Cardiff.
He really made his name during a successful spell at Burnley which saw him make 200 appearances, earning England recognition along the way.

He moved to Aston Villa but injury shattered his two seasons there reducing him to just 20 appearances before his contract ran out this summer.
He said: “I had a really good spell at Villa, a fantastic football club, in the first 20 games but unfortunately had a relatively serious injury, then finding Emilio Martinez coming in and playing fantastically well so opportunities were limited at the back-end of last season.
“That’s part of football. My contract runs out and I have a decision to make and weigh different things up. As soon as I heard of the interest from what feels like my club really, having spent so much time here, their results are the first I looked for, it was a no-brainer for me.
“I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running. I feel great at the moment. I feel in great shape and I’m looking forward to coming in to compete with the other goalkeepers. I’ve got my eyes firmly set on trying to get into the team and I’m looking forward to getting started on that journey.”

Fans chant his name at Wembley and pressure his coach to play him. But what does England really know about Grealish? The English had not troubled Manuel Neuer’s goal for some time; the Germans had mustered a single shot, and then retreated into their shell. Stalemate had set in. More

Inside Tottenham’s disastrous manager hunt as Brighton’s Graham Potter becomes NINTH boss to say no

GRAHAM POTTER’S Spurs snub takes the number of candidates who have said no to their vacant manager’s to NINE.Tottenham’s calamitous search for a new gaffer hit a new low when the boss of struggling Brighton turned it down, insisting he did not believe it would be a good career move for him.
Brighton boss Graham Potter has become the latest manager to turn down Tottenham
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy thought that after two months searching for a new manager he had finally landed the one in Potter.
But this latest snub leaves the North Londoners still in limbo after a string of rejections from the great and not-so-good across Europe.
Levy has been looking to appoint a permanent successor to Jose Mourinho since sacking the Special One in April.
The first two names at the top of his list were Julian Nagelsmann and Brendan Rodgers.
Nagelsmann had impressed Levy when the German’s RB Leipzig team dumped Tottenham out of the Champions League last 16 4-0 on aggregate in March 2020.
Unfortunately Levy did not realise when Nagelsmann said he was quitting Leipzig for bigger things he meant Bayern Munich.
The Spurs supremo then tried to lure Brendan Rodgers from Leicester City, having previously failed to land him from Swansea nine years ago.
But after initially remaining coy about Tottenham’s advances, Rodgers announced he would be staying with the Foxes after Levy baulked at the £60-70million it would have cost to prise the Northern Irishman out of the King Power.
Next up was Ajax chief Erik ten Hag, who seemed the perfect – and much cheaper choice – following the outstanding job he has done at the Johan Cruyff ArenA.
But the Dutch giants quickly saw off any swoop by tying down their coach on a long-term deal.

BETTING SPECIAL: GET ENGLAND TO BEAT GERMANY AT 14/1
Daniel Levy has failed in his attempt to appoint nine different managers

As Tottenham’s hunt hit another cul-de-sac a chink of light appeared from across the Channel where former boss Mauricio Pochettino, whose position at Paris Saint-Germain was under threat after less than five months due to their flops in Lique 1 and Champions League, let it be known he would be interested in returning to N17.
With Levy under fire from Spurs fans due to their sorry season – which saw them finish seventh in the Premier League – and his shameful involvement in the botched European Super League bid, this news promised to dig the chairman out of a hole.
But Poch’s emotional return had to be put on hold after the moneybags French club triggered a one-year extension to his contract.
A return could still happen this summer IF PSG manage to persuade either former Real Madrid chief Zinedine Zidane or current France coach Didier Deschamps to join them after the Euros.
But Levy was forced to look at other options with ex-Chelsea manager Antonio Conte the next to be sounded out about the Spurs vacancy.
Mauricio Pochettino was believed to be keen on a Spurs return but a move never came to fruition
An ambitious move for Antonio Conte broke down not long after negotiations began
Talks broke down with both parties blaming the other and Levy moved on to Paulo Fonseca – the man replaced by Mourinho at Roma.
He seemed nailed on for the job until one balmy evening a few weeks ago when it was revealed he was no longer in the running and Gennaro Gattuso was the new name in the frame.
But as swiftly as it had started, Tottenham’s interest in the former Italian lasted just 12 hours – a record even for this managerial search – as they ditched him the following morning after a supporters backlash against comments the candidate had made about race and same-sex marriage in some historical tweets.
Things went from bad to farce when Seville claimed their manager Julen Loptegui had rejected a “dizzying” offer to take over at Spurs.
Now just when Levy thought things could not get any worse, Potter became the ninth boss to turn them down.

Ex-Wolves chief Nuno Espirito Santo is now said to be in the frame – despite Tottenham chiefs emphatically ruling him out in private last month due to his pragmatic playing style and reluctance to blood young talent.
After nine knock-backs, a no-no from Nuno would surely make the vacancy unTENable.
What was and should be one of the most highly-sought-after jobs in the game is now one nobody wants.
It says everything about where one of English football’s greatest institutions is right now.

Arsenal legend Ray Parlour urges club to splash the cash for transfer of ‘superb’ Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma

FORMER Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has called for the club to snap up highly-rated Brighton man Yves Bissouma. Speaking on talkSPORT, Parlour sang the praises of the £30million-rated Ivory Coast midfielder.
Bissouma in action against the Gunners
Parlour, who made over 300 appearances for Arsenal in twelve years at the club said: “Bissouma will be superb.
“I think he is efficient, he has got lots of energy, good on the ball, he is young enough for Arsenal to get four years out of him.”
BETTING SPECIAL: GET ENGLAND TO BEAT GERMANY AT 14/1
The 24-year-old midfielder liked by the Romford Pelé has previously been linked with a host of other Premier League clubs including Liverpool and Leicester.
But Arsenal chiefs will be eager to get a deal wrapped up before anyone else after the Gunners lost out on long-term target Emi Buendia to Aston Villa earlier this month.
Brighton boss Graham Potter claimed last month that he believes staying at the club for another season would be the best for his development as a player.
But SunSport understands privately the club know there is little the Seagulls could do to stop him looking to move on should a big money bid between £30-40million come in for him.
Bissouma has made 95 appearances in three years at Brighton since joining from Lille
Graham Potter is keen to hang on to Bissouma for one more season

Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira could be on their way out of Arsenal
Arsenal have been constantly linked with Bissouma as Mikel Arteta seeks a revamp of the his squad.
Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira in particular are two players who could be on their way out of the Emirates in the coming weeks, meaning reinforcements in midfield will be required.
Newly appointed Roma boss Jose Mourinho seems determined to bring Xhaka on board, while Torreira is eyeing a move back to South America.
Arteta is eyeing a midfield two of Yves Bissouma and Thomas Partey to help Arsenal challenge for European football again after an eighth placed finish last campaign meant the Gunners missed out on European football for the first time in 25 YEARS.
The Gunners also failed to qualify for Europe through winning the Europa League after a 2-1 aggregate defeat to Unai Emery’s Villarreal in the semi-final.
Adding strength in the midfield through Yves Bissouma, as well as reported target Eduardo Camavinga would certainly help Arteta and his side in their bid to return to Europe. More
