THERE’S nothing quite like closing out the working week with a Friday afternoon debate about Dream Team captaincy options.Before we dive into Gameweek 4’s best candidates, a quick review of our Gameweek 3 suggestions.

Last week we stated that Erling Haaland (£8.4m) was the obvious choice for a good reason and that would have been justified had the Norwegian poacher not missed a penalty against Sheffield United.
Manchester City’s No9 did score at Bramall Lane but he definitely left some points out on the pitch when all was said and done – he settled for seven at the final whistle.
Two of our alternative recommendations, Bukayo Saka (£6.1m) and Bruno Fernandes (£6.2m), delivered 14 points each – congratulations to all gaffers who were brave enough to back them over Haaland!

Yes, it’s Groundhog Day.
The Premier League’s resident cyborg rarely misses out on a double-digit haul against favourable opposition twice in a row so it feels as if he’s overdue a big one – such are the sky-high standards he’s set for himself.

Fulham visit the Etihad this weekend and the stats don’t make for pretty reading for Marco Silva – his side have conceded the most shots on target across the first three Gameweeks.
Bernd Leno (£3.3m) performs nobly between the sticks but if the Cottagers offer up another porous defensive display in the treble-winners’ lair then it could get embarrassing in a hurry, with Haaland likely to be the primary beneficiary.
Plus, if Joao Palhinha (£2.8m) and/or Harrison Reed (£2m) leave Craven Cottage on deadline day then Fulham fans will be fearing the absolute worst.

Fresh off an 18-point haul at Luton’s expense, Chelsea’s No7 leads our Haaland alternatives in Gameweek 4.
The 28-year-old has rediscovered his best form and is the most-popular recruit among Dream Team gaffers this week.
At Stamford Bridge this weekend, Sterling will be unleashed upon a Nottingham Forest side who continue to struggle on the road – he scored three goals against Steve Cooper’s mob last season.
A reminder that Sterling is also among the exclusive crop of players to have earned the maximum of five bonus points in a single fixture so far in 2023/24.
The majority of gaffers will be blind to anybody other than Haaland but many who bet against the prolific poacher last week were duly rewarded – who is to say the same won’t happen again?
Jarrod Bowen (£4.6m)

We don’t mean to pick on Luton but the fact is Rob Edwards’ side will be considered a favourable opponent until they prove otherwise.
The Hatters will be highly motivated when they welcome West Ham to Kenilworth Road this evening for the club’s first ever home Premier League fixture but, sentimentality aside, the Hammers are favourites to claim the three points.
David Moyes’ men are flying high in second after spirited wins over Chelsea and Brighton with Bowen once again the main man from a Dream Team perspective.
The ex-Hull winger has plundered 27 points in three outings via two goals and an assist.
Again, it will take considerable courage to back Bowen over Haaland but the former is certainly a viable option for the armband.

Having left the stadium in a protective boot after Tottenham’s win over Manchester United in Gameweek 2, the England international took a few gaffers by surprise when he started away to Bournemouth in Gameweek 3.
What resulted came as no surprise, however, as the talented playmaker ran the show from the middle of park to bank 15 points – he added another two to his tally against Fulham in midweek.
With 31 points in total, Maddison is Dream Team’s second-best player overall at this stage and a trip to Turf Moor on Saturday could send him top of the pile above Bukayo Saka (£6.1m).
Burnley have conceded six goals in their first two fixtures and Ange Postecoglou’s dynamic attack will test their defensive resolve to the full extent.
We’ve said it many times but Maddison is such a great Dream Team asset – he always looks as if he’s on the cusp of a goal involvement.

GAMEWEEK 4 promises to divide Dream Team gaffers with several enticing match-ups that feature some of the game’s most-popular players in direct competition.Here we evaluate some of the most tempting transfer options ahead of a mouthwatering set of fixtures.

Chelsea’s No7 has been back to his best at the start of the 2023/24 season, exhibiting his explosive dribbling and unrelenting directness.
The promise he showed against Liverpool and West Ham translated into substantial returns when Luton visited Stamford Bridge in Gameweek 3 – Sterling banked 18 points at the Hatters’ expense via two goals and an assist.
And the 28-year-old’s backers will be hopeful of more points this weekend with the Blues set to host a Nottingham Forest side who continue to struggle on the road.
No midfielder earned more points than Sterling in Gameweek 3 and only two players have accumulated a greater tally overall – Bukayo Saka (£6.1m) and James Maddison (£4.1m).
Dream Team bosses are spoiled for choice in midfield right now.

Yet another ultra attack-minded midfield option in good form.

West Ham travel to Luton on Friday night and with Bowen averaging nine points-per-game across the first three Gameweeks, the 7.9% of gaffers who own him will be optimistic of another significant haul.
However, this transfer suggestion may be overly short-sighted as the Hammers are due to face Manchester City and Liverpool immediately after the international break.
The Irons’ No20 is more than capable of earning quality points against difficult opposition but it’s general advisable to target favourable match-ups and with so many viable options in midfield Bowen’s ownership may rise this week and then drop again during the break.
Other midfielders deserving of recruitment this week include Moussa Diaby (£3.3m), Eberechi Eze (£3.3m) and Rodri (£4.3m).
Surely a formation with five in the middle is best for the foreseeable future?

Earlier this week we published an article explaining why Tottenham’s clean sheets may not be as sustainable as their impressive attacking record but with Burnley on Saturday and Sheffield United first up after the international break, gaffers could make hay while the sun shines.
The beauty of an asset like Udogie is that he looks set to be a key contributor to Spurs’ enterprising forward play this season.
The 20-year-old left-back provided an assist at Bournemouth last weekend en route to a ten-point haul and it’s clear Ange Postecoglou is encouraging him to create overloads in the final third – Dream Team managers should always be aware of the most-attacking defenders.
Keep an eye out for updates regarding Udogie’s condition as he picked up a knock in the final moments at the Vitality Stadium – he should be available this weekend.
As for Van de Ven, he’s more dependant on clean sheets but it’s worth noting he’s earned bonus points in all four outings this season.
It can take up some time to adjust to the pace of the Premier League but 20 points from three Gameweeks represents a promising start to the Dutcman’s Dream Team career.
Julian Alvarez (£4m)

This suggestion comes with the caveat that it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see the World Cup winner named on the bench on Saturday.
However, Alvarez has started all three of Manchester City’s league games so far and looked threatening enough in the process.
Fulham face the unenviable task of a trip to the Etihad in Gameweek 4 and the stats forecast severe one-way traffic.
Bernd Leno (£3.3m) has been required to make the most saves in the top flight this month with his defence offering minimal protection – his centre-backs keep getting sent off for a start.
City should have mauled Sheffield United and Pep Guardiola’s winning machine rarely miss out on opportunities to bolster their goal difference in consecutive weeks, which spells bad news for Marco Silva’s troops.
Erling Haaland (£8.4m) is the obvious choice for the captain’s armband again but in such a favourable fixture it may be worth doubling up on City strikers with Alvarez in the mix too.

This Booster is best deployed when there isn’t an obvious candidate for the armband.
Gameweek 4 doesn’t fit that description as Erling Haaland (£8.4m) faces Fulham at home on Saturday.
Bernd Leno (£3.3m) has made the most saves in top flight so far this season as the defence in front of him hasn’t offered much protection – it doesn’t help that the Cottagers’ centre-backs keep getting sent off.
No Premier League player has taken more shots Manchester City’s prolific No9 after three games so all signs point to one-way traffic and while the German keeper has been brilliant between the sticks, it’s hard to envisage anything other than a Haaland goal (or two, three, four).

The Norway international did eventually score against Sheffield United in Gameweek 3 but he squandered a few chances and missed a penalty, meaning Dream Team bosses had to settle for a seven-point return when it looked for all the world double digits were on the cards.
The big dog rarely misses out on massive hauls twice in succession so save your Max Captain Booster and follow the crowd this weekend.
12th Man

Select an additional player from any position to score points for your team for one Gameweek only

Jarrod Bowen (£4.6m) jumps out as an appealing 12th Man option this Gameweek.
West Ham’s No20 is averaging nine points-per-game at the start of this season and has been a reliable Dream Team midfielder for the last two years.
He’ll be unleashed upon a Luton side still searching for their first Premier League point on Friday night in a match-up ripe for healthy returns.
Plenty of gaffers will see Bowen as a transfer candidate this week but that may be a short-sighted view as the Hammers are due to face Man City then Liverpool after the international break.
Selecting Bowen as 12th Man now would mean capitalising on his trip to Luton without over-committing to an asset with horrible fixtures until the end of September.
Raheem Sterling’s (£3.6m) ownership has gone through the roof after an impressive start to the campaign and Chelsea’s fixtures suggest he’s more viable in the long-term than Bowen.
But some gaffers may be hesitant to use a transfer to recruit an asset who can slip in and out of form.
However, what’s clear is that the 28-year-old is well placed to provide further returns this Gameweek thanks to a home game against Forest, who remain incapable of positive results on the road.
Alternatively, Tottenham’s defensive assets have delivered so far, albeit via some good fortune, and Cristian Romero (£3.7m) and company will be hopeful of a win at Turf Moor on Saturday.
Although that feels like a sub-optimal use of the 12th Man Booster, to be honest.
Park the Bus

All defenders score double points for one Gameweek only

Many of the gaffers currently residing at the top of the leaderboard have already made use of the most-powerful Booster in the game.

However, it would be a huge risk to activate Park the Bus in Gameweek 4 because many of Dream Team’s most-popular defenders face difficult opposition this weekend.
It’s a viable option for gaffers with Ben Chilwell (£4.3m), Malo Gusto (£2.4m), Destiny Udogie (£2.6m) and a couple of Man City defenders but even so, waiting for a juicy double Gameweek remains the most sensible tactic.

This is by far the most one-sided contest of the five selected fixtures on paper this Matchweek.

Steve Cooper’s side continued their dismal away record last weekend with defeat at Old Trafford despite going 2-0 up within four minutes.
Forest have earned just eight points on the road since they were promoted to the top flight and Stamford Bridge seems an unlikely venue for a rare success as the Blues looked in much better touch against Luton last Friday.
Between Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Jackson and a revitalised Raheem Sterling, the hosts should enough quality to take the three points.
An interesting subplot: will Taiwo Awoniyi continue his impressive scoring streak?

Brighton v Newcastle
Two teams who have muscled in on the so-called Big Six’s territory in recent times will meet on the south coast this Saturday in what should be a compelling encounter.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side suffered a shock defeat to West Ham last week while the Magpies were the victims of Darwin Nunez’s smash-and-grab so both sides will be desperate to set things right.
The Seagulls’ enterprising approach virtually guarantees goals so backing both teams to score seems sensible.
2-2 is the most popular prediction among all users at this stage but it’s interesting that so few think the home side will win – back Brighton if you fancy going against the grain.

Crystal Palace v Wolves
Both of these teams have problems converting chances into goals but at least the Eagles are tight at the back – only Manchester City have conceded fewer league goals at this stage.
Gary O’Neil’s team finally edged out a very poor Everton outfit last week but that’s not saying much at the moment.
The smart money is on a low-scoring affair but we’re tempted to give in to our most pessimistic instincts for this one…

Liverpool v Aston Villa
No set of fans have seen more league goals than the Villa faithful this term – their side have scored eight and conceded six in their first three outings.
Similarly, Jurgen Klopp’s mob look threatening as ever in attack but vulnerable at the back – Virgil van Dijk will serve the first game of his suspension on Sunday.
Essentially, this match-up should be the antithesis of Palace v Wolves, an unadulterated goal-fest!
The problem is that open-ended shootouts are difficult to predict as it may come down to which side are more clinical on the day.
Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 14 games but Villa’s attack have mustered 12 goals in their last three outings in all competitions.
In a tricky Matchweek, 50% of users are backing the hosts to win 2-1.

Arsenal v Manchester United
Matchweek 4’s main event is a Premier League classic.
Erik ten Hag’s men have won two of their first three games but even their most partisan fans would acknowledge there are problems to solve.
The midfield balance simply isn’t right and the Dutch tactician will surely have to tweak his set-up at the Emirates or risk the likes of Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard running riot.
As for the Gunners, their supporters are justifiably annoyed at their team’s habit of conceding early goals with many imploring Mikel Arteta to revert to a more conventional back four.
This same fixture ended 3-2 back in January thanks to Eddie Nketiah’s late winner and the vast majority of users believe both teams will score again this time around.

Tottenham’s new No10 has captured the imagination of the fans and more than a few Dream Team gaffers – his ownership of 18.9% makes him the sixth-most selected midfielder.

Although perhaps Maddison deserves to be even more popular after a return of 31 points across the first three Gameweeks.
Completing the podium, the Eagles’ creator-in-chief owes his lofty ranking to his haul of 11 bonus points, the most among all players right now.
Eze has registered the most successful dribbles in the Premier League at this early stage and he ranks highly for accurate crosses and fouls won as well.
What’s clear is that Dream Team bosses are spoiled for choice in midfield.
The above list doesn’t even include popular options such as Martin Odegaard (£5m), Kaoru Mitoma (£3.8m), Bruno Fernandes (£6.2m), Luis Diaz (£4.2m) and Phil Foden (£4.5m).
Evidently, an XI with five midfielders appears to be the best strategy – either a 4-5-1 or 3-5-2 formation.

It should be noted that the midfield supremacy may not last as there are a number of defenders and strikers within striking distance of the top ten.
However, with the improved scoring system offering points for tackles, big chances created and shots on target, it’s clear that talismanic midfielders will earn just rewards.

ASTON VILLA stumbled out of the blocks with a 5-1 defeat to Newcastle in their first fixture of the new season but they’ve wasted no time in getting up to speed since.Unai Emery’s side beat Everton 4-0 before thrashing Hibernian 5-0 to all but book their place in the Europa Conference League group stages.
This past weekend, the Villains beat Burnley 3-1 thanks predominantly to their impressive right flank.

New signing Moussa Diaby (£3.3m) has hit the ground running in the Midlands while reliable performer Matty Cash (£2.5m) is making liberal use of his license to attack.
The Poland international, a right-back on paper, essentially played as an an auxiliary winger for long spells at Turf Moor on Sunday.
Cash scored a brace within 20 minutes as Villa once again exhibited the dynamic nature of their attack.
The 26-year-old’s second goal, assisted by Diaby, was a perfect illustration of the effectiveness of Villa’s right-hand side.
As if to underline this point, the French winger turned from creator to finisher as he scored a goal of his own to seal his side’s victory.

The pair banked 28 points between them at the Clarets’ expense in Gameweek 3.

That combined tally grows to 51 in the context of the overall season so far with Diaby (26 points) fractionally above above his team-mate (25 points) in the rankings.
Needless to say, the pair are Villa’s best performers so far and are evidently the assets Dream Team gaffers should back if they believe Emery’s men will continue to score plenty of goals.
With an ownership of 11.5%, Diaby is Villa’s most-selected player but Ollie Watkins (£4.4m), Emi Martinez (£3.4m) and Pau Torres (£2.9m) are all more popular than Cash (5.6%).
Although the latter will most likely be among the most transferred-in players ahead of Gameweek 4 after his brace at Burnley.

With all due respect to Hibs, the second leg of the Europa Conference League play-off will surely be a formality for Villa.
Gaffers can then start thinking about Thursday night returns from Diaby, Cash and co – West Ham assets made full use of the continental competition last season.
