This season’s fantasy game features an improved scoring system, one that recognises individual performance levels in more detail than ever before.
Click here to get the full lowdown on 2023/24’s scoring system if you’re not already familiar.
Clearly, it’s beneficial for Dream Team gaffers to have an idea of which forwards will benefit most from the new scoring system.
We’ve helpfully dug deep into the stats to highlight the ten strikers whose points tallies would have increased the most had the new scoring system been implemented last season.
HIGHEST POINTS INCREASES AMONG DREAM TEAM STRIKERS

Brennan Johnson (£3m) 82 points to 176 points
    Son Heung-min (£5m) 158 pts to 248 pts
Mohamed Salah (£7m) 275 pts to 355 pts
Darwin Nunez (£4m) 132 pts to 211 pts
Jordan Ayew (£2.5m) 67 pts to 145 pts
Marcus Rashford (£6.5m) 301 pts to 373 pts
Dominic Solanke (£3m) 92 pts to 163 pts
Michail Antonio (£3m) 125 pts to 191 pts
Ollie Watkins (£4.5m) 162 pts to 223 pts
Eddie Nketiah (£2m) 72 pts to 133 pts

Johnson was generously categorised as a midfielder in 2022/23 but Nottingham Forest’s No20 is among the strikers this season having been his side’s most advanced player more often than not since promotion.
The Wales international dovetailed beautifully with Morgan Gibbs-White (£3m) and Taiwo Awoniyi (£2.5m), particularly at the City Ground where Steve Cooper’s side mustered enough points to swerve relegation.
Johnson impressed for Forest in 2022/23Credit: GETTY
Johnson ranked first among Forest’s squad for shots on target in the Premier League last term and second for chances created, minutes played, and other metrics that will be more important than ever before in Dream Team this coming campaign.
The fact the 22-year-old’s points total would have more than doubled in the new scoring system makes him a potentially savvy value-for-money forward this term.
Son’s inclusion in this list is an interesting one as the Spurs fan favourite has freely admitted that he was under par for much of 2022/23.
However, the South Korean superstar’s par is set much higher than most and it’s a measure of the standards he’s set for himself that a season with 14 goals and six assists was widely panned.
Truth be told, a significant proportion of his points came from three bumper fixtures against Leicester (hat-trick), Preston (brace) and Frankfurt (brace) but what ultimately matters is the final tally.
Dream Team’s new scoring system rewards players with one point per shot on target and only six players registered more than Son in the Premier League last season – as a shot-happy player this change should suit Spurs’ No7.
Son has set high standards for himselfCredit: GETTY
Should Dream Team gaffers expect big things from Liverpool this season?
Salah and Nunez would have been 152 points better off as a pair last term had the new scoring system been implemented, an indication that the Reds’ forwards are set to thrive.
It goes without saying that the Egypt international is the absolute definition of a tried-and-tested Dream Team asset of the highest calibre but the ex-Benfica man is a more enigmatic figure.
The 24-year-old’s time at Anfield has been defined by plenty of threat but undermined by inefficiency in front of goal.
Even if Nunez, who has taken Liverpool’s No9 shirt following Roberto Firmino’s departure, has an average campaign in terms of finishing, gaffers should expect plenty of goals and points because his play style ensures he gets loads of chances.
Nunez would be a bold pick from the get-go but a revised total of 207 points suggests he’s a player who will enjoy the new scoring system.
    A Dream Team legendCredit: GETTY
Lastly, Watkins’ presence here will encourage plenty of Dream Team bosses as the Aston Villa striker is likely to be a relatively popular recruit having been one of the top flight’s most prolific goalscorers since the World Cup.
And let’s not forget, he’ll have European fixtures to bolster his schedule this season if Unai Emery’s side successfully negotiate the Europa Conference League play-offs.

Which goalkeepers will benefit most from Dream Team’s new scoring system this season?

DREAM TEAM’S fantasy game will be better than ever this coming season. We’ve revolutionised the scoring system for 2023/24 and there’s a significant change Dream Team gaffers should focus on when selecting their goalkeeper for the campaign ahead.

CLICK HERE TO PLAY DREAM TEAM 2023/24 NOW – FREE TO PLAY, AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE, MORE WINNERS THAN EVER BEFORE!

Jordan Pickford would have benefited greatly from the new scoring system last seasonCredit: DREAM TEAM
Clean sheets remain the primary currency with custodians earning five points each time they shut out their opponents (provided they play at least 60 minutes of the fixture).
Keepers will also be punished with a minus point for every goal they concede after the first in any given game.
The big difference this season is the introduction of a point earned for every two saves registered, with saves being defined by stats boffins OPTA.
This is a notable factor as previously Dream Team bosses would be content with backing a keeper sat comfortably behind a solid defence but, going forward, it may be the case that selecting an individual who is required to make their fair share saves is a better strategy.
To analyse how the new scoring methodology may impact Dream Team’s goalkeepers, let’s take a look at the five players who would have benefited most last season had the new system been implemented.
DREAM TEAM GOALKEEPERS WOULD HAVE BENEFITED MOST FROM THE NEW SCORING SYSTEM LAST SEASON

Aaron Ramsdale (£4m) 95 points to 182 points
    Alisson (£4.5m) 130 pts to 214 pts
Jordan Pickford (£3m) 58 pts to 142 pts
Jose Sa (£3m) 80 pts to 158 pts
Bernd Leno (£3m) 80 pts to 157 pts

Ramsdale was a relatively busy man last seasonCredit: GETTY
The first thing to note is that David de Gea, who finished as Dream Team’s outright top goalkeeper in 2022/23, would have earned an additional 118 points via the new scoring system!
In fact, no player in any position would have benefited more than the Spaniard, who made 101 saves in the Premier League last term plus many more in all competitions.
But with De Gea having left Old Trafford, it will be interesting to see whether Andre Onana (£4m) can fill the void.
What Dream Team managers should take away from Aaron Ramsdale and Alisson’spoint spikes is that goalkeepers who combine regular clean sheets with high save numbers will benefit most from the new process.
The new scoring system would have recognised Alisson’s impressive individual performances in 2022/23Credit: GETTY
Jordan Pickford’s appearance in this list is notable because Everton finished 17th in the league last season and, generally, the success of defensive assets are deeply linked to their team’s fortunes.
The new scoring system recognises the fact some keepers may be impressive individually even if the team they represent is struggling as a whole.
In 2022/23, David Raya (£4m) registered the most saves (154) in the top flight with Bernd Leno and Pickford completing the podium – these are the type of stats gaffers should take notice of when building their team ahead of the new season.

Dream Team 2023/24: Brighton’s best players, bargain options and potential flops

AS Dream Team managers count down the days until the new campaign gets underway, The Sun are analysing each of last season’s top teams in detail.First up, it’s Brighton under the microscope and Roberto De Zerbi’s troops are expected to be popular recruits this term having entertained in spades throughout 2022/23 with several of their assets providing incredible value for money.
Here we’ve assembled their best players, bargain options and potential flops.

CLICK HERE TO PLAY DREAM TEAM 2023/24 NOW – FREE TO PLAY, AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE, MORE WINNERS THAN EVER BEFORE!

Brighton players offered excellent value for money in 2022/23Credit: DREAM TEAM
    BEST PLAYERS
Solly March (£3.5m) and Kaoru Mitoma (£3.5m) finished level on 153 points each at the top of the Seagulls’ rankings last season and the pair will be among the best midfield assets again if Brighton continue to attack with verve, especially with Europa League fixtures to bolster their schedule.
The Englishman would have topped Brighton’s rankings with 221 points had the new scoring system been implemented but it’s worth noting that the Japanese dribbler wasn’t a regular starter prior to the World Cup – he’s guaranteed more minutes this coming season if he avoids injury.
March averaged a goal involvement every 194.8 minutes in the Premier League last season whereas Mitoma notched one every 178.2 minutes – both are superb options at £3.5m.
It’s early days but Dream Team bosses may be underestimating Pascal Gross (£3.5m) when perusing the buffet of Brighton midfielders.
At the time of writing, Mitoma appears in 16.5% of teams while the experienced German has an ownership of just 1.7%.
Gross would have earned 20 points more than his skilful team-mate last season in the new scoring system – in fact, the stats suggest the former could be one of the biggest beneficiaries from the new process.
A mention for enterprising left-back Pervis Estupinian (£3.5m) who is deservedly among the most-popular defenders in the game at this stage.
    POTENTIAL BARGAINS
    Not your average 18-year-oldCredit: GETTY
Evan Ferguson (£3m) averaged a goal every 134.4 minutes in all competitions last season so if he’s going to be De Zerbi’s main man up front there could be plenty of returns on offer.
Physically, the 18-year-old is mature beyond his years but it would be quite something for a club to finish sixth in the richest league in the world and then back a teenager to lead the line for the entirety of the following campaign.
But as the old adage goes, if you’re good enough you’re old enough – and Ferguson has shown more than enough promise to date.
Brighton offered supreme value for money last season and while most of their assets have been given a sizeable price boost, Julio Enciso (£2m) remains cheap as chips.
The Paraguay international, who is categorised as a midfielder, stepped up for his side at the back end of 2022/23 to ensure Europa League qualification with four goals and two assists across his last 637 minutes of action (at an average of a goal involvement every 106.2 minutes).
Enciso is generally a rotational player and when he does start he rarely completes 90 minutes but his form in recent outings warrants suitable consideration.
    POTENTIAL FLOPS
Who will start as Brighton’s first-choice goalkeeper this season?Credit: GETTY
Dream Team gaffers are desperate to establish the goalkeeping pecking order at the Amex.
Jason Steele (£3m) usurped Robert Sanchez last season and did an admirable job but whether he continues as No1 depends on whether new signing Bart Verbruggen (£3m) is viewed as a future prospect or an immediate starter.
The 20-year-old Dutchman has joined the Seagulls from Anderlecht for £16.3million but it’s not yet clear how De Zerbi rates him compared to the more experienced Steele.
It goes without saying that Dream Team bosses should stay well clear of bench-warmers so don’t commit to a Brighton keeper unless the pecking order has been cemented.
Finally, don’t get sentimental about James Milner (£2m), the hard-working midfielder’s days as a viable Dream Team asset are well behind him.

John Stones’ hybrid role makes Manchester City star uniquely appealing Dream Team option

THERE’S a sense John Stones (£5m) could be a pivotal figure in Dream Team this coming season. The so-called Barnsley Beckenbauer’s stock has arguably never been as high as it is right now off the back of his significant contribution to Manchester City’s treble.
Having made his name as a ball-playing centre-back, Stones excelled in a hybrid role at the back end of 2022/23 to make Pep Guardiola’s 3-2-4-1 formation as effective as possible.
The 29-year-old’s performances against Real Madrid and Inter Milan when the stakes were highest in the Champions League were truly remarkable; he combined his defensive diligence with composed passing and immense press resistance reminiscent of Sergio Busquets.

Dream Team’s third-most popular defender at the time of writingCredit: DREAM TEAM
It remains to be seen whether Stones will continue to play alongside Rodri (£4m) in defensive midfield when in possession but it would be a surprise if Guardiola abandoned the set-up that served him so well last term.
The England international is categorised as a defender in Dream Team for 2023/24, meaning he will earn five points for every clean sheet to which he contributes at least 60 minutes of playing time.
This is notable as out-and-out defensive midfielders do not benefit directly from clean sheets.
However, Dream Team’s improved scoring system should mean more returns for the likes of Rodri, Declan Rice (£3.5m), Moises Caicedo (£2.5m) and company.
Guardiola’s tactical innovation has given Stones a fresh dynamic in Dream TeamCredit: GETTY
This season, players will earn one point for every two successful tackles – a metric traditionally dominated by combative midfielders.
Plus, with bonus points determined by interceptions, pass completion rate, blocks and fouls won (among other stats) 2023/24 could be the season defensive midfielders are properly recognised in the world of Dream Team.
And this is why Stones is such an intriguing figure, he may be able to enjoy the best of both worlds; a defender’s clean sheet privilege and the steady returns that should accompany busy midfield work.
Naturally, he’ll start at a price befitting an asset with sky-high potential, only three defenders cost more than £5m prior to Gameweek 1: Ruben Dias (£5.5m), Kieran Trippier (£6m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£6m).
So far, Stones’ lofty price tag isn’t deterring Dream Team gaffers at this stage as his ownership of 20.6% makes him the third-most popular defender.

This season’s edition features an improved scoring system, one that recognises individual performance in more detail than ever before.
Click here to get the full lowdown on 2023/24’s scoring system if you’re not already familiar.
A change in how points are distributed means even experienced Dream Team gaffers will need to think carefully about which players to select for the campaign ahead.
In hope of providing a helping hand, we’ve listed the ten defenders whose points tally would have increased the most last season had the new scoring system been implemented – we’ll cover all the positions before the action starts.
This should give you an idea of which individuals are likely to benefit from the new methodology.
HIGHEST POINTS INCREASES AMONG DREAM TEAM DEFENDERS

Adam Smith (£2m) -10 points to 85 points
Rico Henry (£2.5m) 61 pts to 149 pts
Vladimir Coufal (£2.5m) 44 pts to 126 pts
Marc Guehi (£2.5m) 63 pts to 141 pts
Tyrick Mitchell (£2.5m) 53 pts to 130 pts
Nelson Semedo (£2.5m) 43 pts to 120 pts
Tyrell Malacia (£3m) 87 pts to 162 pts
Joel Veltman (£2.5m) 61 pts to 134 pts
Antonee Robinson (£2m) 53 pts to 125 pts
Ezri Konsa (£2.5m) 52 pts to 124 pts

At first glance, Bournemouth’s Adam Smith may be an underwhelming name to top this list (no offence, Adam!) but the 32-year-old is actually the perfect man to highlight the fundamental change in how points will be earned this coming season.
In reality, the Cherries’ long-serving defender finished 2022/23 on minus ten points, a reflection of his club’s poor defensive record as a whole – Bournemouth conceded 71 league goals last term, only Southampton and Leeds leaked more.
Smith would have been 90 points better off last season had the new scoring system been implementedCredit: GETTY
However, our new scoring system would have rewarded him with 85 points – a modest score, granted, but one that reflects his individual efforts more accurately.
Smith featured in all but one of Bournemouth’s league fixtures last season (34 starts) and he ranked relatively highly for the metrics that will matter going forward (blocks, tackles, clearances, etc) among his team-mates.
Even if the new scoring system had been applied, Smith wouldn’t have been a smart selection but it’s worth noting the significant difference between relatively inactive players and those who are near ever-present for their team and actually contribute to how the games unfold.
Rico Henry is another defender possibly set to benefit from Dream Team’s new scoring system.
The Brentford faithful would probably agree that his individual performances were worthy of more than 61 points last season – only Mathias Jensen (£2.5m) made more tackles in the top flight for the Bees last season and the marauding left-back also ranked highly for chances created and dribbles.
Full-backs who offer plenty going forward have always thrived in Dream Team but gaffers would do well to note that individuals who noticeably impact their side’s fortunes in a positive manner will now receive just rewards even if they don’t end up with bucket-loads of goal contributions and clean sheets.
Crystal Palace’s best defenders could be viable in 2023/24Credit: GETTY
Could Selhurst Park be a haven of value-for-money points this season?
Tyrick Mitchell and Marc Guehi registered underwhelming points tallies of 53 and 63 respectively last term but again that was a reflection of the fact Crystal Palace mustered just nine clean sheets in the league.
Their respective revised totals of 130 and 141 paint a more accurate picture of their individual performances, which aligns with the pair’s deserved statuses as England internationals.
A quick look at the stats reveals that Guehi and Mitchell played the most minutes for the Eagles in 2022/23 – the latter ranked first for tackles won and blocks.
If you take nothing else away from this article when selecting your XI, make sure you’re fully aware that individual performance will be more of a factor in determining the success of defenders this coming season.

Liverpool’s midfield revamp promises plentiful points but Dream Team gaffers wary of past disappointments

IT’S been a quirk of Jurgen Klopp’s tenure as Liverpool head coach that the Reds’ midfielders have been curiously underwhelming in the realm of Dream Team.Philippe Coutinho (£2m) plundered plenty of points once upon a time and Luis Diaz (£4m) has produced the goods when fit since his transfer from Porto but given Liverpool have been equal to (and occasionally better than) Man City for prolonged periods in recent years, the two teams have been worlds apart in terms of midfield returns.
However, the Merseyside giants are in the midst of a much-needed squad overhaul this summer and Dream Team managers may finally have several viable Liverpool midfielders to choose from when the new season gets underway – it’s a miracle!

CLICK HERE TO PLAY DREAM TEAM 2023/24 NOW – FREE TO PLAY, MORE WINNERS THAN EVER BEFORE!

Liverpool’s new No10 is set to thrive in Dream Team this seasonCredit: GETTY
Alexis Mac Allister’s (£4m) stock has gone through the roof in the last year thanks mostly to his impressive contribution to Argentina’s World Cup victory but also his consistent performances for Brighton.
The 24-year-old mustered 133 Dream Team points last term via 12 goals and three assists in all competitions.
16 midfielders amassed a higher total but it’s worth noting that Mac Allister’s would have ranked 12th in his position had the new scoring system been implemented.
Dream Team bosses should be aware that the process by which points are distributed has been revolutionised for 2023/24 and a statistical review suggests Liverpool’s new No10 will benefit greatly from the change – he would have earned 203 points last season via the new process.
Players will now receive one point for every shot on target they register and Mac Allister ranked joint-12th in the Premier League last season with all but one (Bruno Fernandes) of the players above him being forwards.
Midfield returns have been surprisingly sparse under KloppCredit: GETTY
Dream Team assets will also bank a point for every two successful tackles.
Mac Allister ranked just outside the 20 players for tackles attempted in the top flight but it’s worth noting that he placed lower for successful challenges.
These stats reinforce what fans have observed about the Argentina international, he’s a well-rounded midfielder who is an attacking threat in possession and a diligent worker in defence.
Mac Allister’s profile makes him an appealing option for Dream Team bosses and doubly so if Klopp’s side pick up where they left off at the end of 2022/23, when they displayed the kind of rampant form supporters have come to expect.
Dominik Szoboszlai (£3.5m) is the other big-money arrival at Anfield this summer.
The Hungary international was among the Bundesliga’s best playmakers last season, ranking highly in almost every creative metric.
He provided eight league assists for RB Leipzig in 2022/23 but the underlying numbers suggest he was unlucky not to register more – only three players in the league accumulated more xA (expected assists).
    Anfield’s new resident playmakerCredit: GETTY
Dream Team assets will earn a point for every big chance created (as defined by OPTA) this coming season and if Szoboszlai can transfer his Bundesliga form to English soil then he will tick over nicely – although many players have struggled with the transition.
At the time of writing, Diaz, Mac Allister and Szoboszlai are all among the 15 most-popular players in their position so clearly Dream Team gaffers believe 2023/24 will be a season of Liverpool midfield returns.
Although more than a few experienced managers will also be wary of past disappointments and will wait to see how the new-look midfield functions before taking a punt.
Liverpool may yet bolster their midfield further before the transfer window closes with Romeo Lavia tipped to take the much-trodden path from Southampton to Anfield.

    What is XP?
Upon registering to play Dream Team, you will notice you have the opportunity to earn experience points (XP).
The more XP you earn, the higher the XP Level you’ll achieve in our Loyalty Programme, which in turn puts you in contention to win bigger and better prizes!
Every month there will be prize draws with superior prizes allocated to those belonging to the higher XP Levels:

Level 1 prize – Nike Premier League academy football
Level 2 prize – Premier League or EFL football shirt of winner’s choice
    Level 3 prize – £150 Amazon voucher
Level 4 prize – Nintendo Switch
    Level 5 prize – PlayStation 5
Level 6 prize – iPhone 14 (or newer)

For example, if you are among 10,000 users in Level 3 then you have a one in 10,000 chance of winning a £150 Amazon voucher come monthly draw time.
Equally, if you are one of 50 users in Level 6 then you’ve got a 50/1 chance of claiming a brand new iPhone!
XP and your current XP Level are displayed on the the Hub Page on Dream Team’s website and app.
You can earn XP in two ways: either through performance in Dream Team’s games (Fantasy, Score Predictor, Higher or Lower?) or through Badges – more on those later.
Users who reach Level 5 will enter the draw for a PlayStation 5Credit: ALAMY
XP points earned by playing Dream Team’s games are awarded in the following ways:
Fantasy Game – you will earn 1 XP for every point that your team gains. For example, if your team gains 70 points in a Gameweek, you will receive 70 XP.
Score Predictor – you will earn 1 XP for every Score Predictor Point gained. For example, if you gain 30 points in a matchweek, you will receive 30 XP.
Higher or Lower? – You will earn one, three or five XP for five, ten or fifteen correct answers in a row, respectively.
Essentially, the more engaged you are with Dream Team’s classic fantasy game and the new free-to-play offerings (Score Predictor, Higher or Lower?) the more XP you’ll accumulate, putting you in a more favourable position come the monthly prize draw.
    What are Badges?
Badges will be awarded based on specified actions and achievements within Dream Team’s games – XP points will be awarded for every Badge collected.
It’s easy enough to claim your first Badge, all you have to do is enter your team in Dream Team’s beloved fantasy game – that will earn you 10 XP.
However, some of the Badges require greater skill (and luck): for example, the Creative Force Badge (+50 XP) is only acquired if all your midfielders provide an assist in the same Gameweek.
You can view the requirements for each Badge via the Games Hub.
But don’t restrict yourself to just Dream Team’s improved fantasy game, there are Badges to be won playing Score Predictor and Higher or Lower too!
Dream Team gaffers can now build a trophy collection to rival Pep GuardiolaCredit: THE TIMES
    What are Trophies?
Trophies are virtual rewards given for achievements such as winning a Weekly Leaderboard, topping a Mini League, etc.
While no additional XPs are awarded for trophies, they act as proof of your accomplishments and represent the privilege of bragging rights over your rivals.
Trophies will remain in your profile for future Game Years, even after XP and Levels have been reset, allowing loyal users to rack up an honours list that would make even Pep Guardiola blush.
