Gary Lineker’s diet revealed as 62-year-old Match of the Day presenter explains how he stays in shape

GARY LINEKER has revealed how he continues to stay in top shape despite being aged 62.The England legend shot to superstardom across the globe with his exploits in front of goal during the 1980s and early 90s.

Lineker made the breakthrough with his hometown club Leicester City before going on to fire them in for the likes of Everton, Barcelona and Tottenham.
He scored 48 goals in 80 caps for the Three Lions and finished his playing career in Japan with Nagoya Grampus before entering the world of punditry.
Lineker then replaced Des Lynham as host of Match of the Day in 1999 and has remained in the chair since and now earns £1.35m-a-year in the role.
However, the much-loved icon still remains in impressive shape despite now being well into his sixties.

And now he has revealed the secrets behind his success physically and is that he is following  Coldplay singer Chris Martin in the OMAD (one meal a day) diet plan.
Lineker told The Times: “I care about the way I look. I’m a bit vain.”
He said that he works out “three days a week with a personal trainer” that he describes as “killer sessions” and he also does “an hour of Pilates”.
However, despite sticking to the OMAD diet plan, he still indulges in a drink.

He said: “I like wine, I like whisky. I never get hangovers.
“That’s one of the luckiest things. I’ll get tired the next day if I had a big one, but I don’t get bad headaches or anything. I’ve never had one.”
Martin embarked on the OMAD diet after seeing Bruce Springsteen’s physique on the same regime and Hollywood star Liz Hurley has also hailed it.
It has been claimed that eating less and giving food more time to digest lowers inflammation, which reduces the risk of depression, heart problems, cancer and autoimmune diseases.
And researchers in Canada reckon it can lead to the safe loss of up to 13 per cent of weight, and a US study in 2015 concluded the plan left people less likely to develop coronary artery disease and diabetes.
But other studies found it hampers fighting infection, increases the risk of heart disease and shortens dieters’ lifespans, because eating all your food in one go can damage cells.
And nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert says one meal a day could play havoc with blood-sugar levels, leaving dieters feeling dizzy, tired and craving carbs. More

Inside Joe Joyce’s body transformation as he packs on 2st to hit career HEAVIEST for Zhilei Zhang rematch

JOE JOYCE packed on almost two stone to be a career heaviest for his massive revenge mission against Zhilei Zhang on Saturday night. The Putney Juggernaut, 38, lost around a stone before their April showdown that the 40-year-old Chinese southpaw won after battering the Brit’s right eye shut.

Joyce has piled on the pounds in an effort to reverse the outcome shown here of his original heavyweight clash with ZhangCredit: Richard Pelham / The Sun
But the Wembley Arena re-run will be a colossal 40st affair as Joyce tipped the scales at a whopping 20st 1lb and Zhang also added pounds to hit 20st 7lb.
Fine art graduate Joyce was only 18st 4lb for the original clash and looked good at the weigh-in.
But he put in the worst performance of his career after a new supplement  disagreed with his digestion, was peppered with every shot Zhang threw and had to be hauled out of the fight to save his vision.
An extra 25lb will not make him any quicker or more illusive but his shots should carry more sting as he aims to get his career back on track.

He said: “I knew the weight was a little bit light last time.
“This time I’ve corrected all the mistakes and been more conscious of what I’ve been eating and the way I’m training.
“I’m in a lot better a place, physically, mentally and also with my focus and drive to win this time.
“I believe I’ll get victory in this fight. I can stop him if I hit him with the right shots.”

However, Joyce remains haunted by the drastic end to his 15-fight winning streak and knows Zhang will target his damaged right eye again tonight.
Joyce, who spent a night in hospital with a cracked cheekbone after the first bout, added: “It took me a couple of weeks to get over it.
“Every now and then I have thoughts about it. It’s a very different environment when you lose a fight, compared to when you win.
“It’s annoying, every once in a while you’re reminded that you lost a fight and I realise now how much I prefer the feeling of winning.
“I wasn’t massively hurt, I did my usual cool down and then started to feel all the bumps and bruises.
“But I wasn’t hurt apart from the eye swelling which went down in a week. I had a minor fracture but otherwise I was in good shape.
“I could have carried on but then it might have got stopped later, with more damage to the eye, so it’s  better to regroup and go again.”

But Khan – who is serving a drugs ban following his final bout – has refused to rule out a comeback.
And he is even willing to go up in weight to take on YouTuber-turned boxer Paul.
He said on Heart radio: “Jake Paul, he gets on my nerves a little bit.
“I think the way he conducts himself, the way he acts, and he’s just full of himself as well and he thinks he can fight, he’s only been boxing for like a year, so yeah, I’d love to fight him.

“He’s been very lucky though, he’s a little bit heavier than me but I don’t mind putting the pounds on just to beat him up.”
Paul, 26, was beaten for the first time in February this year, losing a split-decision to Tommy Fury, 24, in Saudi Arabia.
But he returned in August to beat ex-UFC star Nate Diaz, 38, over ten rounds in Texas.
He weighed 185lb (13st 2lb) for the bout, while Khan was 149lb (10st 6lb) for his loss to Brook, 37.

The 2004 Olympic silver medallist, 36, is currently serving a two-year drugs ban following a failed test last year.
He was found with traces of Ostarine in his system, which aids weight loss and muscle growth.
The substance is prohibited by United Kingdom Anti-Doping, who Khan co-operated with during their investigation.
UKAD confirmed Khan’s ban – after it was referred to the National Anti-Doping Panel – but he doubled down on unknowingly consuming the substance.
A statement read: “Mr Khan’s case was heard by the independent tribunal on 24 January 2023 and in its written decision dated 21 February 2023, the panel found both violations proved, concluded that Mr Khan had established that they were not ‘intentional’ within the meaning of ADR Article 10.2.3 and imposed a two-year ban on him.”

I cured Lionel Messi of vomiting on the pitch with this simple remedy you can buy in Boots for less than £10

WHEN looking after the highest-profile athlete on planet earth, you might expect the most extravagant and expensive methods and materials would be used get them in tip-top shape. However, it turns out all you actually need is a flower remedy which can be picked up from Boots for less than £10.
Lionel Messi was at a crossroads in his career in 2013Credit: EPA
Messi paid Dr Giuliano Poser a visit in 2013
Poser said him treating Messi changed his life
At least that is the case if you are Dr Giuliano Poser, who oversaw the treatment of Lionel Messi from 2013 until 2018.
Messi’s stunning career which has seen him win the World Cup and seven Ballon d’Or awards was threatening to unravel following a string of injuries which were impacting his form.
The then Barcelona and Argentina star, already a legend of the game aged 26, enjoyed a diet of pizza, fizzy drinks and red meat.
But as he got older, his body could no longer deal with the intensity of professional football and his lifestyle after bouts of vomiting on the pitch.

    Something had to give.
And that is where Italian nutritionist Dr Poser comes in.
Messi flew to Sacile, in Italy to discuss his issues at Poser’s clinic.
With a two-decade background as a sports medicine practitioner, Poser preached some unorthodox methods compared to his colleagues.
    Most read in Football
    Diet Overhaul
Starting out, Poser ordered Messi to radically overhaul his diet.
According to Argentine journalist Veronica Brunati, Messi was told to only eat what his body needed, rather than what it wanted.
That meant foods not tolerated by the body were purged from his diet.
Flour, yeast and wheat found in pizza, pasta and white bread were all out.
Pork, beef, eggs, shellfish and diary products were cut too, meaning Messi would have to go without the Argentine favourite of asado – a driving force behind the reason Argentina stayed in Student Halls during the 2022 World Cup instead of a five-star hotel.
Naturally, the ban extended to fizzy drinks and alcohol.
While it was a lot to remove, Poser ensured they were replaced with a number of high-quality options.
Organic and fresh foods such as vegetables and seasonal fruits, mineral water and a caffeine-rich tea drink called Mate – a South American speciality – came in to fill the void.
Messi went on to lose 3kgs by the time the 2014/15 season rolled around.
Poser explained: “Vegetables, seasonal fruits and good mineral water are essential fuels for our muscles.
“You have to reduce the intake of processed foods or foods contaminated with pesticides, herbicides, antibiotics and medications.”
    Cheap but cheerful
However, the new diet was just the first step of this new way of life.
Poser also set Messi down a path of trying to find mental and physical equilibrium by recommending emotional work and psychotherapy.
But perhaps the most unusual treatment Poser prescribed was Bach flower remedies, developed by Edward Bach in the 1930s.
The remedies are said to help reduce negative emotions such as anxiety by targeting the limbic system, the part of the brain which deals with emotions.
A number of high-profile celebrities including Jennifer Aniston and Emma Watson have previously revealed they use the remedies.
You can pick up a bottle of this miracle remedy for less than £10 in Boots, although be aware that according to Medical News Today, there is no direct evidence of them being effective.
Regardless, Messi returned with a bang in the 2014/15 season, scoring 58 goals and adding 31 assists from 57 games.
This was a stark improvement over the previous season when Messi had managed just 46 games, though he naturally still turned out an impressive 41 goals and 14 assists in all competitions.

    Smile because it happened
With Poser’s methods proving to be effective, Messi stayed under the doctor for a number of years.
However, all good things must come to an end, and Messi’s visits to Poser came to an end in 2018 when he succeeded Andres Iniesta as Barcelona captain.
Thereafter Messi entrusted his health to Dr Maria Antonia Lizarraga Dallo, who leads the Spanish giant’s nutrition team, until he left Spain for Paris Saint-Germain in 2021.
Messi has continued to go from strength to strength since, finally lifting the World Cup with Argentina.
For Poser, their split was an overdue return to normalcy, though he is thankful for Messi’s contribution to his career.
He explained to Mundo Deportivo: “I’d say the Messi effect turned my life upside down, especially during the first three months, because the phone never stopped ringing and journalists appeared from all the corners of the world, who I didn’t see, of course.
“That affects anyone’s day-to-day, ever more for a person like me, living a very calm life.
“But, all around the world they’ve seen and they see Messi, and since then they can’t no longer doubt my method. It can be seen every week.”
    Argy-bargy
Messi’s impact on Poser’s career has been profound.
Poser now has a clientele including a number of other Argentina aces.
The Italian was visited by Gonzalo Higuain in 2015 and later Paulo Dybala in 2018.
Both went on to feel the impact of Poser’s teachings.
In the case of ex-Chelsea star Higuain, he went to the Italian to help him break through a crisis of confidence.
Like he did with Messi, Poser ordered Higuain to cut out red meat but also told him to limit his fish intake and to replace sugar with honey in his diet.
Higuain went on to lose 4kgs and then embark on his best-ever season, netting 38 goals in 42 games at Napoli.

Similarly, Dybala called on the good doctor’s help to get him fit again to face Tottenham in the Champions League Last 16.

And the slimmed down version of PapiCredit: Twitter @HappyPunch
Papi rose to fame by making TikTok skits during Covid lockdown.
His name is a play on SaltBae, and he would often post budget versions of the steak salesman’s video on his page.
When exploring British takeaways, he would imitate the Turkish chef’s famous technique of pouring salt from above his shoulder with a twist.
The videos allowed him to slowly build his social media following until he had over 4.2million followers on TikTok and a total 125.8 million likes across all of his videos.

His life changed dramatically when he fought Hamad Khan in March 2022.
Boxing slowly became Papi’s passion, and it saw him lose a whopping 165lbs.
After beating Khan, he then took part in KSI’s boxing event and faced Andy Warski on August 27.
Salt Papi knocked out Warski – who was making his debut – inside 15 seconds at the O2 Arena.

This caught the eye of a fellow social media star, Logan Paul who within seconds of Salt Papi’s win he tweeted: “Salt Papi vs Jake Paul.”
Salt Papi also impressed Chris Eubank Jr who said: “The guy went to sleep, incredible.
“If you look at him, he looks like he works a nine-to-five at a cheese factory, so to see him come out there, moonwalk, dance, lick his lips and then knock a guy out, that’s box office right there.”
He knocked out Josh Brueckner in January 2023.
And far from looking like he does a “nine-to-five at a cheese factory” as Eubank said, he now looks unrecognisably slim.
But he will be looking to bounce back from his last time out in the ring, when he lost to Anthony Taylor, a professional boxer who had previously fought Tommy Fury.
Papi had made considerable waves in the YouTube boxing sphere, and actually went into the fight as a slight favourite.
However, Taylor’s experience proved to be too much.
Papi will be hoping his slimmed down physique will lead to even better performances the next time he enters the ring. More

How Mo Salah became the world’s most feared forward by sticking to a strict diet and strenuous exercise plan

MOHAMED SALAH has become one of the most feared forwards on the planet. The Egypt hotshot, 31, has scored a staggering 187 goals for Liverpool in 307 games, and got off the ground this season by netting against Bournemouth last weekend.
Liverpool star Mo Salah follows a strict diet
Salah is seen as a key man in Jurgen Klopp’s machine, as they chase a Champions League spot.
Which is why the Reds are refusing to entertain advances from Saudi Arabia, as Al-Ittihad prepare to make him the world’s highest paid player.
The ex-Chelsea forward has achieved greatness thanks to a strict diet and rigorous exercise plan, including 3am workouts during Ramadan.
It’s that sacrifice that has seen Salah emulate Cristiano Ronaldo as one of football’s most chiselled stars.

    Here’s how he did it.
What Salah puts in his body daily is crucial to his success, although he allows himself a cheat day with pizza every so often.
Speaking about his diet, the Egyptian told CNN, “Nutrition is so important, it’s part of the game.
“It has helped with my recovery, allowed me to sleep better and helped my body adapt quickly.
“My nutritionist says that because I don’t have any fat on my body, I can eat what I want. I also don’t drink so it’s fine.”

And it’s fair to say, the devout Muslim is usually very careful with his food.
For breakfast, he will eat parathas – a puffy flatbread – with a glass of milk.
If he’s still hungry, he will then go for a bowl of fruit.
When it comes to lunch, Salah tends to load up on more calories. He enjoys lentils, vegetables, bread, chicken, and will finish with a bowl of yogurt.
His favourite dish is an Egyptian speciality called kushari, which is made from rice, macaroni and lentils and topped with spiced tomatoes, chickpeas and onions.
He revealed: “When I go back to Egypt, I call my friend from the airport to buy kushari for us to eat in the car.
“I pull my hoodie over my head, jump into the car and then I’m eating it straight away.”
Dinner is usually a light affair – with soup, salad and vegetables preferred. He’ll wash that down with a glass of fresh fruit juice without sugar.
Salah’s dedication to his craft is shown by his obsession with working out.
If he’s not training with the Reds, he’s doing additional sessions of weight training, bodyweight work, plyometrics, yoga, swimming and stretching exercises.

“Normally, I get up early to go for training which starts either in the morning or in the afternoon,” Salah told ON Ent.
“Then I come for recovery for almost two hours. Therapy for any injuries or specific massage so you mitigate any suffering of your body.
“After that, I go to the gym here at the club which is optional for players. After training, I do stretching and recovery again.
“Finally, I go to the pool at the club or with Makka [his daughter] at home. I finish all these activities around 7 or 8pm.”
During Ramadan, Salah made sure he didn’t miss a single minute to sculpt his abs.
He was up at 3am after fasting during daylight hours to hit the weights in his home gym.
When Salah was at Chelsea, he cut a skinny figure.
Even when he found his form on loan at Fiorentina before securing a move to Roma, he was certainly less defined.
However, thanks to following a diet plan and exercising religiously, he has seen a remarkable body transformation.
Today’s Salah is bursting out of his Liverpool shirt with bulging biceps and shredded abs.
Often, he’s not afraid to show off his torso on Instagram to his adoring fans.
And even his team-mates can’t help but take pictures of his incredible physique.

Football team Cheddar FC sponsorship deal with vegan cheese alternative

A FOOTBALL team in Cheddar is causing a stir after agreeing a sponsorship deal with a vegan rival of its popular namesake cheese.Cheddar AFC, which is based in the Somerset town where the much-loved cheese is matured in the famous caves, will now be sponsored by a Cheddar-style dairy alternative, Cheddarton.

Ex-Lionesses star Karen Carney went vegan in 2018Credit: SWNS
The players, known as The Cheesemen, will be encouraged to embark on a plant-based journey from today.
As they sport the cheesy new kit, they will also take part in a training session with former professional player, and ex-Lioness, Karen Carney – who is also a vegan.
The sponsorship comes after a study of 2,000 adults who have meat and dairy in their diets found 69 per cent wouldn’t consider going vegan.
Of those, 57 per cent would miss their favourite non-vegan foods too much.

A spokesperson for sponsors, Violife, which commissioned the research to launch its dairy-free Cheddarton ‘cheese’, said: “The idea of switching to a vegan diet can seem like a big leap, and clearly many are worried about how they would feel without some of their favourite foods.
“But going plant-based doesn’t have to mean you no longer get to enjoy them.”
The study also found a meat-laden roast dinner is the food non-vegans would miss the most if they were to switch diets, followed by cheese, eggs, dairy milk and bacon.
And while 30 per cent of all those polled reckon they could happily live without meat, almost two-thirds (61 per cent) do not feel they could live without cheese.
    Most read in Football
As a result, 56 per cent think it is ‘hard’ to be vegan, with almost a quarter (23 per cent) of all plant-based diets ending due to the irresistibility of cheese.
However, despite the reluctance of some to switch to a plant-based diet, 20 per cent of those polled, via OnePoll, admitted it is better for the environment.
And nearly one in five (19 per cent) said animal welfare was a convincing reason to go vegan.
Despite this, over two-thirds (69 per cent) feel cheese is an essential part of their diet, with pizza, cheese on toast and lasagne making up respondents’ favourite cheesy dishes.
Of those polled, 60 per cent believe sportspeople need meat and dairy as part of their diet, so ex-Lioness, Karen Carney, is out to prove them wrong.
She said: “I turned vegan in 2018 and noticed the positive change immediately both in my health and performance on the football pitch when playing for both club and country.
“The perception of the plant-based diet is that you will miss out on certain foods but thankfully Violife means I never miss out on my cheesy favourites like pizza and cheese on toast.“
Kieran Webster, Captain of Cheddar AFC said: “Living and growing up in Cheddar, cheese is in the players’ blood.
“We know what’s key to making the cheesiest, gooiest dishes around, so if we can go plant-based, switching Cheddar for Cheddarton, anyone can!”
