Shannon Courtenay STRIPPED of world title before even making first defence after coming in more than 2lbs over weight

BANTAMWEIGHT champ Shannon Courtenay has been STRIPPED of her world title – despite not making a single defence.The Brit, 28, failed to make the weight for her fight with Jamie Mitchell on Saturday evening after coming in more than 2lbs over.

Courtenay was expected to make her first title defence on the undercard to Liam Smith’s super-welterweight grudge match with Anthony Fowler.
But at Friday’s weigh-in, she came in at over 120-a-half pounds, two-and-a-half pounds over the 118lbs bantamweight limit.
The WBA gave her two hours to drop her weight but Matchroom Boxing have since confirmed their client has been stripped of the title.
Promoter Eddie Hearn is still hoping the fight can go ahead as planned, allowing Courtenay to regain her crown at the first attempt.
Her statement read: “Thank you to everyone that’s been messaging to check on me and sending me love.
“We had no weight issues during camp and all week I’ve been in a really good place and ready.

“We was on weight and ready to go yesterday and then last night, unexpectedly, my menstrual cycle started which, for obvious reasons, makes women gain weight.”
Courtenay, who boasts a 7-1 record, claimed the WBA bantamweight title with a points victory against Aussie star Ebanie Bridges in April.
She added: “To say I’m devastated is an understatement because this has never happened before.
“I’m always professional but this was physically out of my control.
“It’s happened and I can’t change it but what I can do is go out there tomorrow night, get the win and get my belt back straight after.
“And that’s exactly what I’m going to do. I’m switching off now, I have a fight to get ready for.”

Who is Kate Abdo, and why did the DAZN & Fox boxing presenter leave Sky Sports News?

KATE ABDO is becoming the face of PPV boxing Stateside. The British broadcaster left her role at Sky Sports in 2015 to join FOX in the US and is now fronting DAZN’s coverage online.

At Sky, Abdo hosted the pay-per-view boxing events, Champions League Football, as well as Sky Sports News coverage, including Deadline Day.
But after being loaned to Fox to help cover the Women’s World Cup, she ended up joining permanently in 2017.
The Manchester-born star relocated to America to host their Champions League, Europa League, World Cup, FA Cup, and Bundesliga coverage.
Abdo also helped cover Premier Boxing Champions including their ‘Inside PBC Boxing’ on Fox.
But after Fox lost MLS rights and the cancellation of ‘Inside PBC’, Abdo left the American broadcasters.
She then came back to the UK to work for CBS Sports as the host of the UEFA Champions League and Europa League, according to Wikipedia.
Abdo did return to cover boxing, however, as she worked for DAZN in Texas to cover Canelo Alvarez’s fight against Callum Smith.
Most recently, however, Abdo has been working with Fox again on Tyson Fury’s upcoming fight with Deontay Wilder.
Abdo was also involved in some controversy on Wednesday when she hosted the pre-fight press conference.
Promoter Bob Arum launched a scathing attack in which he shouted ‘f*** her!’ after Abdo prompted Fury and Wilder to face off with each other after the news conference.
Arum immediately jumped out of his chair to stop the face-off from happening, before criticising Abso backstage.

Dillian Whyte vs Otto Wallin: Date, UK start time, live stream, TV channel, undercard for O2 heavyweight fight

DILLIAN WHYTE returns to the ring on Halloween weekend in a corker of a clash with former Tyson Fury foe Otto Wallin. Whyte bounced back from his KO loss to Alexander Povetkin last year by beating the Russian an emphatic fashion earlier this year in Gibraltar.

Wallin won a decision over ex-Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder opponent Dominic Breazeale back in February.
But the Swede is best known for giving Fury one of the toughest fights of his career and opening up a huge cut over his right eye two years ago.
Whyte has angled for a fight with Fury himself for some time, with the winner of this fight likely to be called as the mandatory for the winer of Fury vs Deontay Wilder 3.
When is Dillian Whyte vs Otto Wallin?
Dillian Whyte’s heavyweight clash with Otto Wallin is set to go ahead on October 30.
The fight will take place at London’s O2 Arena, where Whyte is a hugely popular figure.
There will be close to 20,000 fans in attendance at the fight.
The main event is expected to get going at around 10.30pm UK time.
What channel is it on and can it be live streamed?
Dillian Whyte vs Otto Wallin will be shown live on DAZN in the UK.
To subscribe to DAZN, you have to create an account which will set you back £7.99 a month.
The fight will be Whyte’s first on DAZN in the UK since Matchroom switched broadcasters from Sky to the streaming service.
Coverage of the card will begin at 7pm UK time.
You can expect Whyte to make his ring-walk at around 10.15pm.

What has been said?
“He’s kind of a brawler but he can box a little bit too,” revealed Wallin has said.
“He’s got a good left hook and he’s a good body puncher so those are things I’ve got to be aware of.
“I think that in the long run it takes a toll to have hard fights like that. He’s been knocked out twice and he’s taken a lot of punishment and he’s been hurt in different fights.”
Whyte’s promoter Eddie Hearn said: “As long as Dillian beats Otto Wallin, then Whyte is mandatory for the winner of that fight immediately.
“There is no reason not to do it. Dillian, who 100 per cent would have wanted AJ to win, because he’s not like that.
“He now sits there as probably a cast-iron mandatory challenger to the winner of Wilder-Fury.”
Who is Otto Wallin?
Wallin burst onto the scene when he fought Tyson Fury in September 2019.
The Swede was supposed to be an easy touch for Fury, who was preparing for his rematch with Deontay Wilder.
But their fight turned into a nightmare for Fury, who was cut open by one of Wallin’s left hooks in the fourth round.
The cut required extensive attention throughout the fight and 47 stitches after the bout was finished.

It also became a possibility that the fight could’ve been stopped due to the cut’s severity, making it a TKO victory for Wallin.
But Fury hung on and secured a tight win on the judges’ scorecards.

Anthony Joshua next fight: When is Oleksandr Usyk rematch, where will the fight be held?

ANTHONY JOSHUA lost the defence of his unified world titles to master boxer Oleksandr Usyk – but now AJ wants revenge. Just like the Olympic gold medallist did after his loss to Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019, Joshua wants to right his wrong by facing the Ukrainian in a rematch.

Usyk outpointed and largely outclassed a game Joshua in front of 70,000 fans at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last weekend to win the WBA, WBO, IBF & IBO world titles.
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn admitted after that his client boxed nowhere near to the ability he would do in a potential rematch.
AJ, meanwhile, said the fight was a learning experience in the post-fight news conference, vowing to gain his vengeance on Usyk.
When will Joshua vs Usyk 2 happen?
Though Joshua vs Usyk was months in the making and over in 36 minutes, we’re already talking about a rematch between the pair.
As is the standard practice with all AJ fights, the Brit has a rematch clause inserted into his contract should he lose, just like he did with Andy Ruiz Jr two years ago.
And Joshua comfortably lost to Usyk, who solidified himself as an all-time great with his win on Saturday night.
Eddie Hearn confirmed there will be a rematch between Joshua and Usyk
Usyk won the undisputed titles at cruiserweight and is just Tyson Fury’s WBC belt away from doing the same at heavyweight, a feat which would be unmatched by anyone in the sport’s long history.
But Joshua will get the chance to win his belts back, according to Eddie Hearn, who believes next February or March would be an appropriate tine to deliver the sequel.
“He has got the chance in February or March of next year to become the unified world heavyweight champion,” Hearn told iFL TV.
“Forget that he lost it yesterday (Saturday), that is the opportunity that has presented itself and that is a blessing. So we take that with both hands.”
Where will Joshua vs Usyk 2 take place?
Despite Hearn’s claims that a rematch can take place in February or March, he suggested open-air stadiums as venue options for the fight.
“Very likely to happen in the UK, but we’ll sit down and look at the options,” he added.
