Canelo Alvarez vs Dmitry Bivol: Date, UK start time, live stream, TV channel and undercard for world title clash

CANELO ALVAREZ is back in light-heavyweight action as he challenges WBA world titleholder Dmitry Bivol in Las Vegas. The Mexican was last in the ring in November, when he knocked out Caleb Plant in the 11th round to win the undisputed super-middleweight titles.

But now Alvarez is challenging at 175lbs again, where he last campaigned at in November 2019 against Sergey Kovalev, winning the WBO strap in the process.
Bivol represents a tougher task than Kovalev, however, as he’s a much fresher fighter with some solid wins, including Joe Smith Jr and Jean Pascal, on his record.
The Russian beat Umar Salamov on points in his last outing over four months ago.
Against Alvarez, Bivol will need to be on his A-game, especially with the huge fanbase Canelo will bring to the T-Mobile Arena in Vegas.

    What has been said?
Canelo said: “[Dmitry’s] a really good boxer. He’s a solid champion at 175. It’s a dangerous fight. I like it, I love that kind of challenge.
“I really like it. But, I believe in my abilities, and I’m strong too. So, I’m confident in that, but it’s gonna be a really good fight.
“I like the idea to be undisputed at 175. That’s what I like, but you never know.”
Bivol has said: “Canelo can spar against aliens and that doesn’t change anything.
“I’ve also done it with cruiserweights or heavyweights as well. The truth is, it doesn’t matter in the least, because in the end it’s just sparring.
“I will try my best to make a good fight.
“I will try to win and I trust all my skills to make it a great fight for everyone out there.” More

Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr Usyk 2: New date, UK start time, TV channel, live stream for massive heavyweight rematch

ANTHONY JOSHUA and Oleksandar Usyk’s on-off re-match has been put back again – but promoters are honing in on a confirmed date.Usyk has been given the green light from Ukraine’s sports minister to have his second fight against AJ, following Russia’s disgraceful invasion of his home country.

The fight had been plunged into doubt with Usyk joining the military in the defence of his home country.
All parties understood the situation – there are, after all, bigger things in the world than boxing.

Just like the Olympic gold medallist did after his loss to Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019, Joshua wants to right his wrong by facing the Ukrainian in a rematch.
Usyk outpointed and largely outclassed a game Joshua in front of 70,000 fans at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last year to win the WBA, WBO, IBF & IBO world titles.
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn admitted after that his client boxed nowhere near to the ability he would do in a potential rematch.
AJ, meanwhile, said the fight was a learning experience in the post-fight news conference, vowing to gain his vengeance on Usyk.
Since then, the two sides have been negotiating toward a huge money-spinning sequel, but offers for Joshua to step aside to allow an undisputed clash with Tyson Fury has delayed the process.
Fury, however, will fight mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte next, leaving Usyk and Joshua to fight once again.
Joshua is also on the search for a new trainer, having trialled American coaches Robert Garcia, Virgil Hunter, Ronnie Shields and Canelo Alvarez’s trainer Eddy Reynoso.
When is Joshua vs Usyk 2?

Joshua vs Usyk 2 has yet to be confirmed with a concrete date – although it is understood to be in July.
According to reports, the new date is set to be July 23 – but this is unconfirmed.
But Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine had thrown the entire bout into doubt with Usyk involved in the war effort, but he has told ministers he wants to get into a training camp for the bout.
That would also open up the opportunity for Joshua vs Usyk 2 to take place in an outdoor stadium in the UK.

Eddie Hearn confirmed there will be a rematch between Joshua and Usyk
What channel is it and can it be live streamed?

Joshua’s last fight with Usyk with shown live on Sky Sports Box Office for a price of £24.95.
It’s unclear which channel the rematch will take place on, but expect Matchroom’s broadcast partners DAZN to bid aggressively for the rights to the fight in the UK.
DAZN costs £7.99 to subscribe to in the UK, but the streaming service are likely to add a pay-per-view arm to their model this year.

Where will Joshua vs Usyk 2 take place?
Hearn has previously claimed the fight will be held in another open-air UK stadium.
He said after the fight: “It’s very likely to happen in the UK, but we’ll sit down and look at the options.
“There will be approaches to do it elsewhere. (But) after Saturday, the pluses and minuses of Saturday, I mean, have you ever seen anything like that? How good was it? Have you ever seen anything like that?
“So I’d like to do it in England again. Maybe at Spurs, maybe at Wembley, maybe at the Emirates. They’ll be approaches to do it elsewhere but I don’t see any reason to take it outside of England.”
There are also likely to be approached from the Middle East for the fight, with Saudi Arabia having held Joshua’s clash against Andy Ruiz Jr in 2019.
Usyk said in the post-fight news conference he was eager for the second fight to be held in the Olympic Stadium in Kiev, Ukraine.
Usyk said: “I would love to have the rematch at Olympiyskiy Stadium in Kiev.” More

It got tasty in the second however, as Benn backed his man up against the ropes and landed some punishing shots, including one to the temple which sent Van Heerden tumbling into the ropes.

Amir Khan gets in the ring
But he doesn’t seem like he wants a fight with Conor Benn.
Khan: I just came here to enjoy the champ, I’m here to enjoy the boxing. He’s got a brilliant career. At the moment I’m spending time with the family.
    Benn: Money always talks
Khan: I’ve made a lot of money in the game.
Benn: No disrespect on my part, if I achieve half of what he has, I’d be very happy.
And the two embrace, and Khan leaves the ring.
    Benn KNOCKS OUT Van Heerden
Benn backed Van Heerden up against the ropes and really, it was all done from there.
A few thunderous shots, finished off with one big right hand to the temple, and down goes Van Heerden, face first into the ropes.
    A step-up now, please?
    Benn KNOCKS OUT Van Heerden!
    Absolutely brutal.
Benn vs Van Heerden – R1
Benn comes out looking to land big shots immediately!
He backs the South African to the ropes but Van Heerden comes back with a counter-shot of his own.
Benn continues his attack, comes in low and lands a nice right hand to the chin followed up by a left hook.
Some bombs being thrown early here in Manchester!
Benn vs Van Heerden – R1
Round one is underway in Manchester!
Ready or not, here I come
    And here’s Conor Benn!
Conor Benn vs Chris van Heerden NEXT
The South African is making his ring-walk…
    BIG win
    Look at that from CBS..

    The Gentleman on 15-1
CBS goes over to McCarthy and checks that his two-fight rival is safe.
It was a sensational way to settle their grudge.
McCarthy had moments but he could not escape CBS’ power and took one too many shots.
Right hands rained down on the Belfast man until he could take no more. CBS retains his Commonwealth and European titles and moves to 15-1.
    CBS WINS R8
    Sensational KO from Chris Billam-Smith.
McCarthy gets pinned on the ropes and utterly pasted.
Somehow the brave Irishman stood up and absorbed about six heavy flush head shots.
But eventually he was felled and counted out on the deck.
    CBS vs McCarthy – R7
McCarthy lands a check left hook that puts him in the driving seat of the round.
But then CBS lands three right hands that shatter his opponent’s momentum.
Both men land as the round comes to a close, McCarthy looks the most damaged.
But CBS is not as dominant as he started off.
    CBS vs McCarthy – R6
Brave McCarthy lands a couple to claw his way back into the bout.
But CBS is starting to look too big and strong and fit.
Even when McCarthy’s best shots land they don’t see him to hurt the Englishman.
And when CBS closes the distance he can manhandle and bully McCarthy on the ropes. Still all to fight for.
    CBS vs McCarthy – R5
McCarthy’s corner begs him to jab and move but he is still hurting from the fourth.
Two CBS left hooks look skull-shattering but McCarthy stays up and keeps slashing back.
McCarthy goes to the body with two digs but CBS’ ribs are solid.
McCarthy survives another stanza but the damage must be wearing him down.
    CBS vs McCarthy – R4
Big round for CBS as McCarthy is almost knocked out. Two minutes into the session a left hook shook McCarthy’s senses and he never fully recovered them.
A chopping right hand from CBS had the Irishman shaken and and a straighter dig laster crashed into his temple.
CBS smothers his work and gets too close to McCarthy when he could be finishing him from range.
    McCarthy somehow survives.
    CBS vs McCarthy – R3
Trainer Shan McGuigan has woke CBS us as he lands a left hook.
It’s scrappy again until McCarthy cracks a rasping right hand into the Hampshire man’s skull
McCarthy’s trainer Peter Taylor ends the session looking pleased with his lad.
It’s close and tight but McCarthy has made the brighter start with cleaner landed shots.
    CBS vs McCarthy – R2
McCarthy lands a one-two when CBS lowers his guard for the first time.
And the Irishman connects with the same textbook combination moments later that gets his green crowd cheering.
Right on the bell McCarthy lands a booming right hand that stiffens CBS’ legs and he falls foward onto his foe but the bell goes to save him.
    McCarthy round.
    CBS vs McCarthy – R1
First round is scrappy and rough with both men warned over rabbit punches and head butts.
CBC does land a left hook that seems flush but McCarthy doesn’t wobble.
McCarthy is happy on the backfoot as the Bournemouth man walks him down and tries to overpower him.
    Repeat or revenge?
Last July Cris Billam-Smith and Tommy McCarthy slugged it out in Eddie Hearn’s Essex garden.
Bournemouth’s CBS nicked it on a split decision and they rerun the cruiserweight clash tight now.
McCarthy arrives to James Brown classic, The Big Payback.
    Hatton vs Gregores – R6
Hatton begins the round with some nice, patient work, landing a few jabs before pinging in the right hand.
He then goes for a left uppercut off the back of a right hand but Gregores covers up.
Much has been made of how hard it’s been for Campbell to follow in the footsteps of his dad Ricky, but tonight’s been another improvement for the 21-year-old.
Gregores tries to land something meaningful in the final 10 seconds but to no avail.
    Shutout for Hatton.
    Hatton vs Gregores – R5
Campbell’s trainer Matthew Hatton asks his nephew to get the snap back into his punches.
“Let’s not get ragged,” he adds.
And Campbell responds in kind, landing a beautiful left to the body.
“Good shot!” Matthew shouts from the corner.
Gregores looks like he’s feeling the pace of the fight so far, he’s not throwing as much as he was before.
    Hatton vs Gregores – R4
More of the same from Hatton, who keeps coming forward and looking for big shots.
Gregores looks like he’s becoming used to Hatton’s power, however, and is probably going to get through these next few rounds.
Hatton lands a nice left to the body, but Gregores comes back with a counter of his own.
Every round to Campbell so far.
    Hatton vs Gregores – R3
Gregores has another fight in two weeks, so he won’t want to get stopped here.
But Hatton is landing some big shots. Young Campbell looks hell-bent on getting that stoppage.
And it would increase his streak to three. Some signs also that Hatton is slightly weary of what’s coming back from the Argentine.
Regardless, another round banked for Hatton, who finishes the round landing some big right hands.
    Credit: PA
    Hatton vs Gregores – R2
A little careless from Hatton to start the round, he likes to come forward but gets caught on the way out.
Carl Froch notes on commentary that Hatton can’t take those shots once he steps up his level of competition.
But some good body shots follows in the middle minute of the round.
Gregores can land a nice counter if he gets there quick enough, however.
    Hatton vs Gregores – R1
Hatton starts things on the front foot and lands a nice right hand but smothers his work a little quickly.
Gregores lands a solid jab but Hatton comes back with a body shot.
Big right hand from Hatton now as he continues to look for hooks to the body. Some great variation from the youngster.
Good start from legend Ricky’s son.

    What has been said?
“I’m excited to step into the ring with Chris Van Heerden,” Benn said.
“Van Heerden is a tough operator and a southpaw who will be in there giving it his all in every round.
“For me and my team, it’s now about fighting every style that we can face as we continue to head towards World Championship status and Van Heerden brings something different to the table than I’ve not faced before.
“With that being said this is another stepping stone for me on my journey to the top, I haven’t seen anything in Van Heerden’s previous fights that I can’t deal with, and I expect another explosive victory on April 16.
“If he comes to fight or he wants to box, I can deliver that smoke either way!” More

Ryan Garcia wins comeback fight on points against Emmanuel Tagoe after 15 months out of the ring

RYAN GARCIA marked his return to the boxing ring with a near-shutout on the cards against Emmanuel Tagoe. The American lightweight sensation last fought in January 2021, knocking out Britain’s Luke Campbell in seven rounds.

But a battle with his mental health and injuries saw him sidelined for 15 months until he finally marked his comeback.
And he did so against stubborn Ghanian Tagoe, who looked to survive the fight over the 12 round distance.
But it saw Garcia, who scored a knockdown in round two, emerge victorious unanimously on the cards.
He said: “I got nothing but respect for Tagoe, he fought a hard fight.
“I think if I would have started pressing him harder in the beginning of the fight, I would’ve got him out of there.
“But what can I say? I had to track him down, it was a new experience cutting the ring off with a guy who was in a fight to survive.”
Garcia, 23, made a sharp start to the fight after a right hand bundled Tagoe, 33, to the floor.
But he failed to follow it up and force a stoppage in a sign of things to come later on.

Garcia would go on to control the fight throughout the rest of the rounds, throwing heavy left hooks and right hands.
But Tagoe was keen to grab, hold and move as he evaded engaging in a firefight.
It saw Garcia repeatedly back up Tagoe but fail to land a decisive blow despite threatening a few times.
As the fight went to the cards, it saw the lightweight contender win wide on and secure his first win with new trainer Joe Goosen.
Veteran Goosen was brought in to replace Canelo Alvarez’s esteemed coach Eddy Reynoso.
Garcia said: “It felt great man, I was super comfortable with him in the ring.
“I love Joe, we have a great relationship and I got nothing but love for him. He’s just the best guy.” More
