Watch British super-lightweight champion Dalton Smith pick up opponent before SLAMMING him to the canvas in ugly scenes

On the way to victory, Smith provided a hugely controversial moment.
During the bout, the British super-lightweight champion responded to an Allington counter left by lifting him up and slamming him to the ground.
The referee immediately paused the fight, but somehow opted not to deduct Smith a point.
After being sternly told not to do it again, Smith got away with his indiscretion and the fight went on.

The 26-year-old from Sheffield subsequently moved to 14-0 with a dominant points win, taking it 120-107, 119-108 and 119-108 on the scorecards.
Smith was compared to wrestler Steve Austin on social media, with iFL TV calling him: “Stone Cold Dalton Smith.”
A fan responded: “Stone cold? Or completely illegal?”
And a second wrote: “Pathetic refereeing not docking points there.”

A third commented: “Dirty that, not needed at all.”

In the main event, Leigh Wood was dethroned as featherweight world champ by Mauricio Lara.
The bout, billed as “Dance with the Devil” – was ended by a left hook from hell.
Wood had been comfortably ahead on the scorecards through six rounds.
But Lara produced a brutal seventh round KO to steal the Brit’s crown.
Wood’s defeat left his dreams of an all-British title defence against Josh Warrington in tatters.

Fans left groaning as DAZN announce shock plan to rival Sky Sports and BT Sport for Premier League TV rights

STREAMING giants DAZN have announced a shock plan to rival Sky Sports and BT Sport for Premier League TV rights – but fans are far from impressed.DAZN confirmed securing rights to Prem football is a ‘high-priority’ for the company.

The streaming giants are one of boxing’s main broadcasters and have even snatched former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua from rivals Sky.
And they plan on doing the same but with Prem football, rivalling both Sky and BT.
DAZN already forks out £747million a season to host the domestic rights for Serie A football.
They also have a ten-year worldwide deal with NFL worth close to £840m.

DAZN chief executive Shay Segev says plans to get Prem football are well underway.
Speaking to The Times, he said: “Football is obviously very big in the UK and EPL is an option on our menu.
“If the question is do we have any ambition to go to this market, the answer is of course yes. And it’s not only ambition it’s a high priority on my list.
“DAZN is a sports service and clearly we will try to get bigger packages but the maths needs to work.

“The question is the economic situation, the competition and whether we will be in a position to be strong enough to position ourselves as the best.
“I am very, very confident that in the mid to long-term we can be a big player in the UK.
“Whether this takes, two years, five years, seven years, time will tell.”
Segev says DAZN taking on English top-flight football would further boost revenue.
He explained: “In the old world there is a conflict of interest between the [sports] and the broadcasters.
“We don’t want competition and we want to pay the least we can. The new world is a partnership deal, a revenue-sharing deal.
“The clubs and leagues expect to get a specific level, then we can come in and guarantee some level of revenues and are also looking for the upside as well and we will be focused on the upside.”
DAZN have time to put together their bid ahead of next year’s auction that will see rights for the 2025-28 seasons decided.
The current deal running from 2022 and running until 2025 and is worth a whopping £4.8billion.
The Daily Mail state that there is concern that the Premier League would be unhappy with more than three media outlets hosting the rights.
That could mean one of Sky, BT, or Amazon would have to drop out.
However, DAZN’s announcement has left fans groaning.
Sports fans are already paying for Sky, BT and in the festive season, Amazon.
One said on Twitter: “The Premier League need to go on their own. Make their own app and leave the rest behind imo.”
Another tweeted: “Hope they don’t get it.

“They charge £20 a month for boxing alone. Imagine if they got PL games.”
A third added: “Once it gets some other sports rights which it will and sort out being available in pubs DAZN will be a monster company.” More

Leigh Wood vs Mauricio Lara: UK start time, live stream, TV channel, undercard for featherweight world title fight

LEIGH WOOD is back in action this weekend as he defends his WBA featherweight world title against Mauricio Lara. Nottingham fighter Wood hasn’t been in the ring since his epic 12th-round knockout win over Michael Conlan 11 months ago.

Mauricio Lara has fought Josh Warrington twice in his careerCredit: PA
Lara is best known for fighting Josh Warrington twice, knocking him out in the first with the second being stopped after the Mexican suffered a cut from an accidental headbutt.
Both Wood and Lara are heavy punchers and most will see this fight as the most explosive the featherweight division has to offer.
Wood, who was upgraded to full WBA 126lbs champion earlier this year, was scheduled to fight Lara last year before he pulled out with an injury.
But now he gets his chance against the feared Mexican, who is facing his first ever world title shot.

    When is Wood vs Lara?

Wood’s big clash against Lara takes place this weekend on Saturday, February 18.

The fight will take place at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham.
Ring-walks for the main event should begin at around 10pm UK time.
The main card will get going from 7pm.

What channel is it on and can it be live streamed?

Wood vs Lara will be shown live on DAZN in the UK as part of your monthly subscription.
You can subscribe to DAZN for £9.99-a-month, which commits you for 12 months.
You can also pay £99.99 up front for the year, or go with DAZN’s flexible saver option, which is £19.99-a-month – and that allows you to cancel at any time.
The fight is available for live streaming on the DAZN app, which you can download onto your mobile or tablet device.

    What has been said?
Wood said: “I prefer being an underdog and I love proving people wrong.
“People tweet me all the time and say, ‘this is a mismatch and I’m going to lose’ but if you look at my Twitter I retweet them because it fuels me.
“Winning fuels me. Lara has a style that suits me. Conlan was all wrong for me stylistically, but styles make fights and I’m confident in my ability.
“If I approach this fight wrong, it could be brutal. Lara is good and we saw that in the first fight with Josh Warrington, but if I do as I plan, this fight won’t reach halfway – I’m going to get Lara out of there.” More

Anthony Joshua vs Jermaine Franklin: Date, UK start time, live stream, TV channel, undercard for AJ comeback at O2 Arena

ANTHONY JOSHUA is BACK as he prepares to face American Jermaine Franklin in a huge comeback fight. AJ hasn’t been in the ring since he lost his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk back in August.

Dillian Whyte beat Jermaine Franklin in tight circumstances back in NovemberCredit: Getty
The former heavyweight champ is looking to get back into title contention, however, and is starting things off with a tasty clash against Franklin.
The Michigan-born fighter lost a narrow decision to Dillian Whyte at the tail-end of 2022, but most thought he did enough to win the fight.
Should Joshua beat Franklin, a rematch with Whyte, who he knocked out in 2015, would be well on the cards.
Joshua’s career is effectively on the line, however, so he can’t take Franklin lightly.
Franklin, 29, will be looking to catapult himself into the heavyweight title picture himself, and a win over Joshua would give him some newfound fame in the US.
Robert Garcia is no longer Joshua’s trainer, with the Brit set to partner up with Derrick James out in Texas.
Joshua will be hoping some fresh eyes in his corner can reignite his career, with future super-fights against Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder still on his mind.
First things first – win emphatically against Franklin and those huge match-ups will be back on.
    Most read in Boxing
    When is Joshua vs Franklin?

Joshua’s big clash against Franklin will take place on Saturday, April 1.
The event will be held at London’s O2 Arena.
The fight will get underway at approximately 10.30pm UK time.
The main card will begin at 6pm or 7pm GMT.

What channel is Joshua vs Franklin and can it be live streamed?

Joshua vs Franklin will be shown live on DAZN PPV in the UK.
You can subscribe to DAZN in the UK for £7.99-a-month.
The fight is available for live streaming on your mobile or tablet device from the DAZN app.

How much will the fight cost?
Joshua’s last fight against Usyk was priced at £26.99 on Sky Sports Box Office.
Joshua vs Franklin will be on DAZN, but a price point has yet to be announced.
    Joshua vs Franklin full card
The undercard for Joshua vs Franklin has yet to be announced.
Check back at SunSport for all the latest news on the rest of the bill.
    What has been said?
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has said: “You go into that fight in April – you know that with defeat, it’s all over, really. It would be a third back-to-back defeat.
“And yet a great performance and a showreel knockout gets everyone saying, ‘We’re back, we’re back baby.’
“That’s what I can’t wait for, because I love it when our backs are against the wall.
“That’s the best moments and this is one of those moments for AJ. He wants a big fight in the summer.
“The one that would make sense and the one that should be hopefully quite straightforward to make is the rematch with Dillian Whyte.
“We’re open to a Deontay Wilder fight, we’re open to a Tyson Fury fight.”
Anthony Joshua will be looking to get back to winning ways against FranklinCredit: Dan Charity
Who is Joshua’s new trainer Derrick James?
Joshua had Team GB coach Rob McCracken in his corner for most of his career, but that all changed before the Usyk rematch.
AJ brought in esteemed trainer of multiple world champions Robert Garcia.
And though Garcia did implement a more offensive game plan against Usyk, the fight slipped away from Joshua, who has now decided to make another change.
Joshua is set to link up with James, who trains both undisputed super-welterweight champion Jermell Charlo, and unified welterweight titleholder Errol Spence Jr.
Both men are offensive-minded, with Spence Jr especially well-versed when it comes to educated pressure-fighting.
James won the Ring Magazine trainer of the year award in 2017, but he also had his own fighting career once upon a time.

“We’d like to see that fight internationally, something a little bit different for Saul, and hopefully we can conclude a deal for that in the coming weeks.”

    I’d tune in for that.
    Weight gain
Slim wants to change weight class. He says he’s hitting people with some big shots but they’re not moving.
He does look a very slight man in the ring next to someone like Zanetti.
    Good performance from both men.
    It’s unanimous
Slim gets the decision but boy did he have to work hard.

What heart from Zanetti! He keeps coming forward and has some luck with a couple shots after Slim drops his hands.
Still Slim’s round I’d say but Zanetti is not out of this.
    One-way traffic

He’s picking Zanetti’s defence apart here and landing almost at will.
    Slim on top
Zanetti doing a lot of talking in the ring and looking to come forward.
But some quality shots from Slim rocked him a few times.
    Good round for the champion.

    Walk of life
Slim has just won the walk-on contest again.
He came out to Backstreet Boys ‘I want it that way’.

    Incredible confidence.
