      Three judges at Barcelona’s Provincial Court announced their decision in an eight-page legal ruling made public today.
      The document read: “We consider there is sufficient prima facie evidence at this stage to agree the opening of the trial in the terms requested by state prosecutors and the prosecutor acting privately for the alleged victim.
      “The statements the alleged victim has made and witness evidence and expert reports that form part of these proceedings can be considered as sufficient in that regard, without prejudice to the final verdict.”
      State prosecutors and Alves’ lawyer will now have five working days to present their indictments outlining the prison sentence, fines, and compensation orders they are seeking if the footballer is found guilty.

      Alves’ lawyer is expected to insist his client should be acquitted of any wrongdoing.
      A date for the trial is yet to be set, though it will likely take place in the first part of next year.
      The footballer could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted, according to Spanish reports.
      Alves was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a Barcelona nightclub on December 30 last year.

      A judge ordered he be jailed without bail after hearing testimonies from Alves, the alleged victim, and witnesses.
      It was initially reported he had put his hands down a woman’s underwear in the nightclub’s VIP area toilets, but it later emerged the 23-year-old was alleging she had been raped.
      Alves, a dad of two, was sacked by Mexican side UNAM Pumas following his arrest at the start of the year.
      He claimed to have never met the woman in question, then later backtracked and said the pair had in fact had consensual sex.
      His lawyer reportedly said his initial story came about as Alves did not want his wife, Spanish model Joana Sanz, to find out about his infidelity.
      In an interview from his prison cell with Spanish TV and newspaper reporter Mayka Navarro, Alves said: “The only person I have to ask for forgiveness is my wife, Joana Sanz.
      “I have already done that here in prison, but I have to do it publicly, because the story is public, the offence I caused her is public and she deserves that public apology.”
      Alves, who is set to remain in prison until his trial, continued: “I entered the nightclub bathroom after her [the alleged victim].
      “I didn’t even lock the door. The door was open all the time. She could have left at any time because I spent virtually all my time in there sat on the toilet seat.”
      He accused the alleged victim of being “badly advised”, adding: “I can only think that she felt bad after having sex, that she took a decision and that she has not been capable of getting herself out of the mess she’s got into and has got me into.
      “I appeal to her conscience. There hasn’t been a single night that I haven’t slept well. Not a single night. My conscience is clear.
      “I’ve never voluntarily hurt anyone. And I didn’t hurt her that night either.
      “I don’t know if her conscience is clear and if she sleeps well at night. But I forgive her.”

      Luis Ocampo — also known as Pipe Pollo — was held in the Colombian city of Cali.
      Jorelyn, 26, whose team won 1-0 at Manchester City in the Women’s Super League at the weekend, posted a Bible verse on her Instagram as news of the arrest broke.
       It said: “Have faith and smile, because God loves you.”
      Cali prosecution chief Sandra Eugenia Gonzalez Mina said yesterday: “The suspected killer of the brother of our Colombian international footballer Jorelyn Carabali has been detained and sent to prison pending a formal ongoing investigation.”

      She added: “Thanks to the work of police and prosecutors the identity of the man who allegedly assassinated Jorelyn’s brother has been established.
      “The victim was shot six times, four in the face.
      “The evidence gathered so far points to the alleged aggressor having a row in the disco that night with the victim as well as a year ago and leaving the nightclub to get a firearm before returning and shooting him.”
      Jorelyn lost another brother, Juan, 15, in 2017. He was shot while at a football match.

      Eleven football fans injured after firework set off in stand as police arrest two people

      A loud bang was reportedly heard throughout the stadium, with numerous people injured when the explosion went off.
      The game was suspended while emergency services attended to the incident.
      The police immediately began an investigation into the matter.

      Two suspects were identified during the game – which ended in a 1-1 draw.
      And the authorities have since confirmed that the two men were arrested mid-match.
      They are now in police custody.

      The former England U19 international, who was put in prison in 2017 after pleading guilty to conspiracy to defraud, initially burst onto the scene at Newcastle United.
      That was after he had spent 11 weeks in a young offenders institute for his part in an armed robbery while at Southampton’s academy.
      He has also been involved in a number of other controversies away from the field as well as playing in the top five divisions of English football.
      He caused outrage in 2011 while still at the Magpies after posing with a gun and was later fined £6,000 by the FA in 2012 for making a string of homophobic comments on Twitter.

      Fans also slammed him for posting a picture of his name spelt out in £20 notes that very same year.
      Ranger was then convicted of assaulting two police officers in October 2012 and was given a conditional discharge then in 2014 he was cleared of raping a woman in the Carlton Hotel in the city after a week-long trial.
      He got himself in trouble at Swindon Town after kicking down the door to his own flat, where he denied a charge of criminal damage but did get fined and made to pay court costs.
      While all of these incidents were going on away from the pitch, Ranger, who has also battled a gambling addiction, was making his way down the divisions.

      After four years at Newcastle, which included loan spells at Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday, he left on a free transfer in 2013 just two years into a five-year £10,000-a-week deal.
      A year at Swindon was followed by a two-year stint at Blackpool before a move to Southend United in 2016.
      That ended in 2018, and since then, he has featured in one game for Spalding United in the Northern Premier League Division One South East in the eighth tier, a brief 12 minute return for Southend in League Two and then one-season spell at Boreham Wood in the National League.
      Speaking to The Athletic, Ranger said: “There needs to be a movie on my life because it’s a real one, it’s an interesting one.”
      The 6ft 2in forward, who has a number of eye-catching tattoos, has been without a team since his departure from Boreham Wood nearly a year-and-a-half ago.
      He says: “I have players coming to me saying, ‘What happened? What’s wrong with you? With your talent, what are you doing?’.
      “I made my bed and now I have to lie in it. I feel frustrated. I know what I can do but it’s deeper than that because I’ve had so many chances.
      “I didn’t take in the advice. I should be minimum Championship right now. I shouldn’t be having problems but I didn’t listen.
      “If I added nutrition to my game and behaviour, I’m Haaland. But I didn’t want to listen. I thought I knew it all.
      “People can learn from me. I played in every league — I’ve been at the highest level, I’ve been there, I can help the kids. It’s not the end of me. I love football, there’s still opportunity but there’s more to life than just football.”
      However, despite all of the controversies, he still insists that he is desperate for one more shot.

      Football agent Dane Rashford arrested on domestic violence charge in US

      FOOTBALL agent Dane Rashford has been arrested on domestic violence charges in the US. The director of DN May Sports Management was cuffed on October 20 in Miami Beach, Florida after being charged with the misdemeanour of battery.

      As reported by Telegraph Sport, the 31-year-old appeared in court on October 21 where his bond was set at £1,224.
      He has pleaded not guilty and will face a further hearing on November, 27.
      Dane is not being held in custody while he awaits his pre-trial hearing but has been slapped with a “stay away order” which prevents him making contact.
      Florida court documents stated Dane, brother of Man United star, Marcus Rashford, had his bond paid by sister Chantelle Maynard a week after his arrest.

      Dane declined to comment to Telegraph Sport, along with Manchester United.
      Speaking to Telegraph Sport, Daysi Vega-Mendez, assistant state prosecutor for Miami Dade County said: “The case is still active, at the moment I haven’t been able to get hold of the victim.
      “At the moment the case is still active and listed for an arraignment hearing on Nov 27.”
      DN May Sports Management lists Marcus Rashford, as a client, but the player is directly managed by his other sibling, Dwaine Maynard.

      On November 2, the guerilla group promised to release Luis Manuel Diaz, 58, but have now demanded “security guarantees” before they let him go.
      The ELN pledged to “keep their word” – but accused the government of complicating things with the response triggered by the kidnap.
      They swamped areas including the Perija Mountains near Barrancas in Diaz’s home region of La Guajira with elite police and soldiers.
      The latest demand appeared to confirm speculation the hostage-takers are concerned for their own safety if they hand the Liverpool player’s dad over.

      ELN chiefs released their new pledge after Diaz broke his silence about his dad’s kidnap.
      Diaz posted an emotional message on Instagram urging the group to release him “immediately”.
      The 26-year-old said: “This is not Luis Diaz the player speaking. Today it is the son of Luis Manuel Diaz speaking.
      “Mane, my dad, is a hard-working family man, the pillar of our family and he’s been kidnapped.

      “I ask the ELN for the prompt release of my father, and I ask international organisations to work together for his freedom.
      “Every second, every minute, our anguish grows. My mother, my brothers, and I are desperate, distressed, and without words to describe what we are feeling.
      “This suffering will only end when we have him back home.
      “I beg you to release him immediately, respecting his integrity and ending this painful wait as soon as possible.
      “In the name of love and compassion, we ask you to reconsider your actions and allow us to have him back.
      “I thank Colombians and the international community for the support received, thank you for so many demonstrations of affection and solidarity in this difficult time that many families in my country find themselves experiencing.”
      The ELN, which says a regional unit called the Northern War Front kidnapped Luis Manuel from Barrancas last Saturday, responded with a statement signed by the unit’s leader Commander Jose Manuel Martinez Quiroz.
      It said: “On November 2, we informed the country of the decision to release Mr. Luis Manuel Díaz, father of the player Luis Díaz.
      “From that date, we began the process to accomplish this as soon as possible. We are making efforts to avoid incidents with government forces.
      “The area is still militarised, they are carrying out flyovers, disembarking troops, broadcasting, and offering rewards as part of an intense search operation.
      “This situation is not allowing for the execution of the release plan quickly and safely, where Mr. Luis Manuel Díaz is not at risk. If operations continue in the area, they will delay the release and increase the risks.
      “We understand the anguish of the Díaz Marulanda family, to whom we say that we will keep our word to release him unilaterally, as soon as we have security guarantees for the development of the liberation operation.”
      Amid the desperate and ongoing search for Diaz’s dad, the footballer netted a dramatic 95th-minute equaliser against Luton on Sunday evening.
      He lifted up his Liverpool shirt afterwards, in his first game since the kidnapping, to display a message that said in Spanish “Freedom for Papa.”
      His mum Cilenis Marulanda was also abducted near the couple’s home alongside her husband but was freed hours later as the police and army hunt for their captors kicked in.
      Yesterday morning she fought back tears as she urged the kidnappers to release her partner.
      Marulanda made her impassioned plea as she took part in a second march to demand Luis Manuel Diaz’s freedom.
      She said, with her eyes closed before breaking down and being embraced by a relative beside her: “I want them to release him now, that the people who are keeping him free him now back to me, because we want to have him back home.”
      The heartbroken mum wore a T-shirt with her husband’s face printed on it under the message: “Your family is waiting for you.”
      It comes amid reports the ELN planned the kidnapping for at least five months.
      ELN members had put Luis Manuel Diaz under surveillance to study his routine, Colombian outlet Semana reported.
      They would work out the times he left home and returned, the places he visited, and the friends he frequently visited.
      The group then decided to pounce nine days ago and abducted Luis Manuel Diaz and his wife.
      CCTV footage showed the Díazes being followed by men on motorbikes as they left their home and stopped off at a petrol station.
      Two men on motorbikes threatened them with a gun and one of them got into Luis Manuel’s vehicle to take a route they had “planned previously” to avoid a rapid police response, Semana said.
      They quickly released Marulanda before cops closed in.
      ELN commander Antonio Garcia wrote on the group’s Telegram, referring to Luis Diaz by his nickname of Lucho and admitting the Northern War Front had his father: “The retention of Luis Diaz’s father by the Northern War Front was an error.
      “Lucho is a symbol of Colombia – that is how we in the ELN feel about him.”
      Colombian authorities have offered a reward of $200,000,000 Peso (£40,600) for Diaz’s dad’s return.
