But his plans to build a wall topped with railings were blocked — and he was also denied permission for 6ft aluminium gates.
Locals objected to the “military or industrial” design of the gates.
The Spain international made the failed bid after a string of burglaries near his mansion in Knutsford, Cheshire.
He bought the stunning property with his wife Júlia Vigas last year. The pair live there with their two young children.

Kurt Zouma faces calls to be prosecuted for animal cruelty as more than 7,000 sign petition calling for justice

THOUSANDS of people have signed a petition calling for shamed West Ham ace Kurt Zouma to be prosecuted for animal cruelty. The defender was filmed kicking one of his two cats like a football and slapping it out of a child’s hands in disturbing footage filmed at his multimillion-pound mansion.
Thousands of furious Brits have signed a petition calling on the Met Police to prosecute West Ham ace Kurt Zouma
More than 7,000 people have signed the petition hours after The Sun exclusively shared footage of the player booting his cat like a football
He’s since issued a grovelling apology after the film, shared by his brother Yoan on Snapchat, was exclusively featured by The Sun.
But the Premier League ace could still face a criminal prosecution if the RSPCA deems the clip contains illegal behaviour.
The Met Police say they won’t be investigating, although the charity has its own powers to prosecute if it sees fit.
Now more than 7,000 Brits have signed a petition calling for the Met to launch a probe.
The Change.org petition, started by Matthew Dixon, says: “Professional football player Kurt Zouma was filmed horrendously abusing a defenceless animal.
“He should be prosecuted for his actions.”
    It comes as:

Mr Dixon wrote: “Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition.
“This ‘man’ cannot be allowed to get away with abusing this poor cat in this way.”
West Ham says the matter will be dealt with internally.
Zouma is likely to be dropped for West Ham’s clash against Watford tonight as the club disciplines the player.
It is thought the Hammers star man could be at least fined wages for the shamed clips, which fans have complained puts their season in jeopardy.
The club said: “West Ham United unreservedly condemns the actions of our player, Kurt Zouma, in the video that has circulated.
“We have spoken to Kurt and will be dealing with the matter internally, but we would like to make it clear that we in no way condone cruelty towards animals.”
    ‘PROSECUTE HIM’
Zouma, 27, last night apologised after the emergence of the sick clips.
The video was filmed at his £2million house on Sunday afternoon – a day after he appeared for West Ham in the FA Cup.
“I want to apologise for my actions. There are no excuses for my behaviour, which I sincerely regret,” he said.
“I also want to say how deeply sorry I am to anyone who was upset by the video. I would like to assure everyone that our two cats are perfectly fine and healthy.
“They are loved and cherished by our entire family, and this behaviour was an isolated incident that will not happen again.”
Thousands of people have contacted the RSPCA urging the charity to prosecute.
The issue has also been discussed on breakfast television.
    BRITS’ FURY
Susanna Reid told Good Morning Britain viewers: “There is something sickening about the defensive abuse of a helpless animal.
“Why would you do that? What on earth possesses you to mistreat an animal like that? And then thinking it’s a good laugh.”
Her co-star Richard Madeley replied: “Power and control.
“I think there needs to be a prosecution.”
Meanwhile, animal charity Blue Cross has also backed calls for a criminal investigation.
Chief executive officer Chris Burghes said: “The video is appalling and very distressing to watch.

Greenwood, 20, was quizzed by cops and spent three nights in a police cell after being re-arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.
He was arrested at his home in Bowden, Greater Manchester, after a series of allegations were made on social media.
The images and allegations were reportedly visible on the woman’s Instagram on January 30, but have since been deleted.
Greenwood has since been bailed, but the sportswear giants, who provided his boots, have now completely dropped him.
A spokesman for Nike told the Athletic: “Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete”.
The company previously said that they would be “monitoring” the situation after the “disturbing” allegations were made.

Greenwood has worn Nike boots since breaking into United’s first team in 2019.
He has been suspended indefinitely by his club after being arrested on suspicion of rape, GBH, threats to kill and sexual assault.
Greenwood was also dropped from EA’s FIFA 22 after the allegations came to light about his arrest.
In an update to the game, which was released on PlayStation, Xbox and PC, Greenwood does not appear.
A spokesman for EA said: “Mason Greenwood has been removed from active squads in FIFA 22 and has also been suspended from appearing in FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) packs and Ultimate Draft.”
The striker has also been removed from all Konami football games until further notice.
Konami is the creator of the PES series of football games and its new eFootball game, which was delayed until spring 2022.
Several of his teammates have also unfollowed the star on social media after the images came to light.
The Premier League club initially said it did “not condone violence of any kind” and later suspended the £75,000-a-week star as a police probe was launched.
Greenwood has also been removed from the Manchester United squad list on the game, after the club removed any merchandise with his name on from their website.
Fans are also able to get a full refund on their shirts with Greenwood’s name on from this season, or exchange them for another player.
The club’s official partner Cadbury said Greenwood won’t appear on any of their marketing products.
Sponsor TeamViewer also announced that they are “closely monitoring developments”.
A spokesman for the club said: “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”
He started playing for the first team in 2019, aged 17, and has made 129 appearances fore the Red Devils.
Greenwood also represented England several times as an under-17 and under-21 before being named in the England senior squad in August 2020.

The French international defender faces nine charges in total, including seven counts of rape, involving six alleged victims.
He appeared at Chester Crown Court last week to face a new allegation of attempted rape, and was snapped attending a cop shop close to his £4.8m Cheshire mansion.
The fresh offence relates to a sixth alleged victim, the court was told, he has now been charged with seven counts of rape, one of sexual assault and one of attempted rape.
Mendy was first arrested and charged with offences last year, and has been suspended by Manchester City following the outcome of the legal process.
Fans who contacted the club regarding their shirts were offered a refund after the allegations came to light in August last year.
It is understood that anyone who did want to get a refund on their tops following the charges were allowed to do so by the club.

Mendy was last month bailed after spending 134 days in custody following his arrest – and reportedly attacked one of the women just three days before he was charged.
A provisional trial date in June was pushed back until July 25.
It is the second rape Mendy allegedly committed while on police bail after his initial arrest.
It comes as Manchester United have also been offering free refunds or exchanges on their shirts, after star striker Mason Greenwood was arrested on rape and GBH allegations.
Greenwood, 20, was arrested by officers in Manchester last week after allegations were posted on social media.
The images and allegations were reportedly visible on a woman’s Instagram, but have since been deleted.

United confirmed that fans could get a new shirt with no name on or a replacement one with another players name on in light of the allegations.
Collectors who have shelled out a fortune for rare memorabilia are also trying to flog their goods on eBay.
Those with ultra-rare football cards have listed merchandise featuring the rape rap-haunted Manchester United star for up to £1,999.
Many are the scarce Panini Chronicles cards that change hands for thousands of pounds.
But of the dozens of listings, none had attracted bids as collectors wait to see if the police bring charges against the England striker.
A Panini Chronicles card was number 14 from 25 from 2019 and had the player as a “rated rookie”. It was said to be in mint condition and offered for sale in a protective case.
One trader was offering a boot signed by the player for £345, and an autographed shirt was up for sale for £499.
Buyers are told: “A hand signed mounted Manchester United FC Football boot of Mason Greenwood. Frame size 50x40cm
“Frame comes in a solid wood box frame. Item comes with a certificate of authenticity.”

All his merchandise has been dropped from the official United site in the wake of the allegations.
Greenwood was also removed from Manchester United’s squad on FIFA 22 following claims made against him.
Greenwood’s alleged rape victim last night broke her silence and thanked everyone for their “support” after he was released on bail.
The student, 18, revealed that the past week has been “difficult” for her and she will not be making any more statements pending the police investigation.
Greenwood was released on bail pending further investigation on Wednesday, but the star has not been seen since.
He appears to have toughened up security at his luxury mansion in Bowdon, Greater Manchester, after being released on bail.
Two security guards were seen standing watch outside the home and an expert was also pictured arriving to install a £350 home security system.
Greenwood was suspended indefinitely from the club hours after the allegations surfaced on social media.
It comes as Greenwood’s teammates returned to training after the winter break minus the No11.
Several of his teammates have also unfollowed the star on social media after the images came to light.
The £75,000-a-week footballer was taken into custody on Sunday after police swooped on his home.
Security staff, thought to have been provided by United, were present at a second home he owns nearby and they confirmed that his parents were inside.
In a statement, Manchester United said: “Manchester United reiterates its strong condemnation of violence of any kind.
“As previously communicated, Mason Greenwood will not train with, or play for, the club until further notice.”
A source confirmed Greenwood will still receive his wages while on suspension.
But his sponsor Nike said they were “deeply concerned” and have suspended his deal.
The club’s official partner Cadbury said Greenwood won’t appear on any of their marketing products.
Sponsor TeamViewer also announced that they are “closely monitoring developments”.

He lives in a six-bed £14,000-a-month rented home in an upmarket area of Cheshire and as well as a state-of-the-art security system, he’s got a huge German Shepherd-type dog at the premises.
The mutt rooms free in the grounds of the gated house during the day and has a kennel at the side of the red-brick home.
This week a security firm that has the contract to guard the home fitted a range of new cameras at the property following the 20-year-old’s arrest.
The Hikvision system can connect to eight different cameras using 4K resolution.
And Greenwood – who is now on bail as cops probe allegations of violence, threats to kill and rape, has also got a dog as an extra line of defence.
They cost between £10,000 and £25,000 depending on training and are often Belgian or German shepherds, Dobermans or giant Cane Corsos.

Two UK firms – K9 Chaperone and Elite Protection Dogs – use pups from military or police backgrounds to supply stars.
They are trained to change from docile family pet to vicious attack dog if an intruder is detected.
London-based Elite Protection Dogs reveals: “All of our puppies come from military and police backgrounds with generations of experience in protecting borders, searching for missing persons and drugs, and sniffing for bombs in warzones.
“With all respect to other breeds, we intend to use two breeds of canine only as our cadets. These are the Belgian Shepherds (Malinois) and the German Shepherds.
“The military and police all around the world tend to choose these breeds as their first choice, as do we. These dogs have the highest IQ in the protection dog category.”
The firm added: “We produce two types of trained dogs- a guard dog and a personal protection dog.
“Guard dogs are typically very independent and don’t need companionship as they are trained to guard a territory.
“They are taught to refuse food from strangers and react to intruders. Guard dogs are mainly suited for farms and gated areas. Prices start from £10,000.
“A personal protection dog is not only a family friendly pet but also a form of protection. They crave a family bond, affection and love and are very child friendly.
“They are dedicated to shield you, by demand, from any possible danger or threat as taught through intense training, mental stability and obedience. Prices start from £15,000.”
Premier League stars Hugo Lloris, Jesse Lingard, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Raheem Sterling, Andy Carroll and Jamie Vardy all now have guard dogs, as does singer Stormzy.
Greenwood was initially held on suspicion of rape and GBH but police confirmed on Tuesday he was also being quizzed for sexual assault and threats to kill.
    ‘DEEPLY CONCERNED’
The £75,000-a-week footballer was taken into custody on Sunday after police swooped on his home.
Security staff, thought to have been provided by Utd, were present at a second home he owns nearby and they confirmed that his parents were inside.

A source confirmed Greenwood will still receive his wages while on suspension.
But his sponsor Nike said they were “deeply concerned” and have suspended his deal.
All merchandise bearing the No11’s name has also been dropped from the official Utd site in the wake of the allegations and teammates have unfollowed him on Instagram.
Fans wanting to exchange shirts bearing his name can now do so for free.
Greenwood’s promising domestic and international career is now in jeopardy after his arrest.
The rising star had impressed on the pitch this season – scoring five goals in the Premier League and one in the Champions League so far.
He joined the team aged just six and rose through the ranks to land himself a regular spot on the first team.

And now, police have been granted further time to speak to Greenwood after he was rearrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.
Greenwood was suspended indefinitely from Man Utd following his arrest.
And in a statement last night, his club said: “Manchester United reiterates its strong condemnation of violence of any kind.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman confirmed the force were granted more time to quiz the £75,000-a-week footballer.
He said: “Detectives have been granted further additional time to speak to a man in his 20s who was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman.
“The suspect was detained in custody on Sunday afternoon after we became aware of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.
“Following enquiries so far, he has since been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

Greenwood was removed from Manchester United’s squad on FIFA 22 yesterday following claims made against him.
He has also been removed from the Man Utd squad list on the game, after the club removed any merchandise with his name on from their website.
The club’s official partner Cadbury said Greenwood won’t appear on any of their marketing products.
Sponsor TeamViewer also announced that they are “closely monitoring developments”.
Sportswear giant Nike, which provides the striker’s boots, have suspended their sponsorship with the star.
The brand said in a statement: “We have suspended our relationship with Mason Greenwood.
“We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.”

Greenwood has worn Nike boots since breaking into United’s first team in 2019.
He has been suspended indefinitely by his club after being arrested.
Several of his teammates have also unfollowed the star on social media after the images came to light.
The Premier League club initially said it did “not condone violence of any kind” and later suspended the star as a police probe was launched.
A spokesman for the club said: “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”
The images and allegations were reportedly visible on a woman’s Instagram on Sunday morning, but have since been deleted.
