The £52million defender denies eight counts of rape
He denies eight counts of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of attempted rape.
Mendy’s co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, 40, is accused of eight counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault relating to eight women, which he also denies.
The jury was told of a significant date involving a pool party, a trip to a nightclub and a post-club party back at Mendy’s house, on July 23 and into July 24 last year.
Over this period, Mendy is accused of the rape of three women – one aged 22 and two aged 19.

One of the 19-year-olds was also allegedly raped by Saha.
Saha is also accused of the sexual assault of another woman, aged 22, in the same 24-hour period.
On the evening of July 23, a 22-year-old woman who worked at a nightclub in Manchester was invited to the pool party by Saha in return for money – an attempt to “procure” her as a potential victim, it is alleged.
Mendy invited the 22-year-old to the cinema room in the house, the woman telling another girl if she was not back in 10 minutes to come and find her.

The 22-year-old did not want sex but he “persisted in his demands” until she gave in and he raped her, the court heard.
The other girl did come looking for her – but found two of Mendy’s associates blocking her way.
After the pool party, Mendy, Saha and others went to China White nightclub in Manchester.
Two 19-year-old woman who had been to the pool party returned to Mendy’s house after the club, where both were raped, it is alleged.
One remembered being in the swimming pool.
Her next recollection was being face down on a sofa in the living room with her arms being held behind her back.
Mendy was raping her saying, “Don’t move, don’t move”, the court heard.
The £52million defender today arrived at Chester Crown Court for the first day of his trial.
Timothy Cray QC, opening for the prosecution, told the jury: “This case is another chapter in a very old story: men who rape and sexually assault women because they think they are powerful, and because they think they can get away with it.”
The court heard how Mendy and Saha shut several of their victims in rooms in the footballer’s “isolated” mansion in Mottram St Andrew, rural Cheshire.
The women allegedly had their phones taken off them on arrival before being left in the study and master bedroom, which have “special locking doors” that can only be opened from within.
Mr Cray told jurors only someone who knew how to open the doors could do so, adding: “Two of witnesses allege rapes in those rooms and felt they were locked in.”
Describing one alleged incident, Mr Cray said a complainant – who first met Mendy in Barcelona – ended up at his home after going into Manchester for food and drinks with the player and another man.
The prosecutor said the woman had made it very clear that she was not interested in Mendy.
The acts that the defendants did together show callous indifference to the women they went after. In their minds, and this could not be clearer, the stream of women they brought to their homes existed purely to be pursued for sexProsecutor Timothy Cray QC
He said: “The next day, she was having a shower when Mendy entered the bathroom and started to touch himself in front of her.
“She told him to leave and tried to get a towel to cover herself up.
“She also tried to get her underwear from her bag but Mendy took it from her, saying words like, ‘I just want to see you’.”
The prosecutor said the woman was unable to leave the bathroom and they ended up on the bed with the woman on Mendy’s lap.
He said: “She tried to move but she was unable to get away from him.”
Mr Cray accused Mendy of “treating women as though they existed purely for sex” and said the feeling of his alleged victims “counted for nothing”.
He added: “These women were disposable: things to be used for sex, then thrown to one side.
“That was the effect of deliberate, planned choices the defendants made, and the desires they let loose many times.”
Mr Cray said Saha was Mendy’s friend and fixer, and one of his jobs was “to find young women and to create the situations where those young women could be raped and sexually assaulted”.
The prosecutor told jurors they will hear from 13 different women during the trial.
There are seven complainants against Mendy, and eight against Saha, with two complainants alleging both men raped them.
Mr Cray said: “Our case is that the defendants’ pursuit of these 13 women turned them into predators, who were prepared to commit serious sexual offences.”
He added that “the fact they would not take ‘no’ for an answer” would be something the jurors will “hear time and time again”.
    ‘SCARED AND ISOLATED’
Mr Cray said there were five dates, between October 2018 and August 2021, when nine young women arrived at Mendy’s address.
They afterwards made complaints of rape and sexual assault against Mendy and Saha.
There are also four separate complaints against Saha involving allegations away from Mendy’s house, in Manchester and Sheffield.
Mendy was bailed in January after spending 134 days in custody following his arrest in August.
Premier League champions Man City spent a reported £49.2million signing Mendy from French side Monaco in 2017.
He last played for the club on August 15, 2021, during their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham at the start of last season.
In September 2020, City boss Pep Guardiola revealed Mendy would be out of the game for at least a month due to an injury.

In a statement, the club later said: “Manchester City can confirm that following his being charged by police today, Benjamin Mendy has been suspended pending an investigation.
“The matter is subject to a legal process and the club is therefore unable to make further comment until that process is complete.”

Ryan Giggs’ ex ‘screamed “get him off me” before he headbutted her then told sis: I’ll headbutt you next’

RYAN Giggs’ ex-girlfriend screamed “get him off me” before he headbutted her in a drunken rage, a court heard today. The ex-Manchester United player then allegedly threatened to do the same to Kate Greville’s sister Emma, yelling: “I’ll headbutt you next.”

The footballer is accused of ABH against his former partner, as well as subjecting her to three years of “controlling and coercive behaviour”.
He is also facing an assault by beating charge against 26-year-old Emma.
At the start of the second week of the trial, Emma said Giggs placed his hands on Kate’s shoulders during an argument and headbutted her in the lip “with lots of force”.
She told the jury the defendant then went on to blame her for the incident at his home in Worsley, Greater Manchester.

“Afterwards he told me it was my fault he had headbutted Kate and turned to me and said ‘I’ll headbutt you next’,” she said.
“[He was] extremely angry. I felt fear as he had just headbutted Kate so why wouldn’t he do the same to me?”
Manchester Crown Court heard how Emma was looking after the couple’s puppy Mac on November 1, 2020, while Giggs and her sister had dinner at the Stock Exchange Hotel in Manchester city centre.
Emma said the PR executive was already planning to leave Giggs at a future date while he was away on touring duties after allegedly finding evidence he had cheated on her with eight women.
    Most read in The Sun
She received a call from her sister who was “annoyed” they were late for dinner because Giggs had “been out all day drinking”, she said.
Later, Kate messaged her: “Pack my stuff in the car, we are leaving tonight”, the court heard.
Emma said her sister was “visibly upset” when she arrived and could see she had been drinking but was “not stumbling”.
Peter Wright QC, prosecuting asked: “Did she explain anything to you about the reason for her being upset at that time?”
Emma replied: “She just told me she confronted him about cheating but didn’t go into detail because we had a tight timescale.
“We wanted to get out of the house.”
Giggs followed about 15 minutes later, she said, and his mood was “not happy”, adding: “He was also very drunk.”
Emma said she retreated into a bedroom in the house before she later went back downstairs and saw her sister hugging the puppy in the hallway.
She told the court: “Ryan then said ‘say your goodbyes to the dog, you will never see him again’.
“It was in a snide manner, that he had the power, that he could keep the dog when he knew the dog was Kate’s.”
    ‘SHE WAS IN PAIN’
Giggs then accused Kate of taking his phone, said the witness, which she denied, so he picked up some of Kate’s belongings, including a handbag, and placed them in the hallway.
Emma told the court: “Ryan turned to Kate and said ‘if I don’t have my phone, you are not having yours.
“Kate grabbed it before he did and they were in physical contact with each other.”
She left to check on the dog and when she returned she saw Giggs’ legs sticking out of the ‘boot room’ into the hallway.
She said: “I could hear shouting, arguing, and scuffling around.
“Kate was lying on her back and Ryan was lying on top of her. Ryan was trying to grab Kate’s phone.
“His face was in her line with her face. Her legs were more bent up and he was lying flat on top of her.
“From her facial expressions I could tell she was in pain.
“Kate said ‘get him off me’ so I put both my arms around his waist and as Kate was using her legs to push him off I was pulling.
“As I was pulling him up he was standing upright in the doorway.
“He turned to his right and his elbow touched my jaw and as a result I let go. Not in a gentle manner, it was a ‘get off me’ manner.”
I felt fear as he had just headbutted Kate so why wouldn’t he do the same to me?Emma Greville
Emma said she was “upset”, felt “shock” and immediately called her parents for advice on what to do next.
She next saw her sister in the kitchen as she tried to retrieve her phone from Giggs’ back pocket.
She told the court: “I said to Ryan ‘just give her phone back and then we will go’ and also said to him ‘I saw you on top of her grab her phone so I know you have her phone’.
“He called me a ‘a f****** liar’. Kate said to Ryan ‘See, I have proof’.
“He had gone from annoyed to extremely angry.
“He put both his hands on Kate’s shoulders and with lots of force used his head to headbutt her in the lip.
“She fell to the ground screaming and covering her face.”
Kate told her to call the police, she said, as Giggs pleaded with her not to do so and said ‘think about my daughter, think about my career’.
She said he told her to think about her sister’s career and that “it would be in all the newspapers”.
    ‘EXTREMELY ANGRY’
Emma said she thought her sister’s relationship with Giggs varied from “loving to being very distant”.
Swearing and shouting featured in their arguments but “nothing physical” until the night of November 1, she said.
Giggs denies assaulting Kate causing her actual bodily harm and assault by beating of Emma.
He has also pleaded not guilty to controlling and coercive behaviour against Kate between August 2017 and November 2020.
Earlier, the court heard how Kate told bosses her bruises were from rough sex as they tried to block Giggs’ “intense” emails because they were “interring with her work”.
Kate’s PR firm manager Elsa Roodt – who appeared on a video link from Dubai – said that Q Communications had “no other option” than to try to stop Giggs’ messages from bombarding her after seeing marks on her arms following an incident at the Westin Hotel in 2017.
The witness also described seeing Kate with bruises on her arm after an incident in February 2020.
Ms Roodt said: “She said Ryan had got physical with her the night before in the hotel room.”
The boss described having to stop Giggs’ emails after they began distracting Kate.

“At one stage, early on in her employment, we had to call our internet provider to block Ryan Giggs’ email,” Ms Roodt told the court.

As the second week of his trial kicked off, the court heard how her bosses tried to block emails from Giggs because they were “interfering with her work”.
Kate’s PR firm boss Elsa Roodt – who appeared on a video link from Dubai – said that Q Communications had “no other option” than to try to stop Giggs’ messages from bombarding her.
Ms Roodt also said she noticed Kate had bruises on her arms the morning after an incident with Giggs at the Westin Hotel in 2017.
But Kate said the marks were from “rough sex” following an argument.

Ms Roodt started PR firm Q Communications in Dubai with Ms Greville’s university friend Katie Harvey in around 2010.
Kate was then taken on to help set up their Abu Dhabi office in 2016.
Ms Roodt was asked by prosecutor Peter Wright QC about seeing Kate the day after an incident with Giggs at the Westin Hotel in 2017.
She said Ms Greville had bruises on her arm and “had been crying”. Kate told her the pair had an argument in the hotel room.
    Most read in The Sun
“I asked her how she got the bruise and she said after the argument they had ended up having quite rough sex and the bruises were from that,” Ms Roodt said.
The witness also described seeing Ms Greville with bruises on her arm after an incident in February 2020.
“It was intense and Kate couldn’t do her work.
“It was interfering with her work and we had no other option than to try and block his email.”
Ms Roodt said that Kate was “very bubbly, very happy” when she first started working for Q Communications.
But as time went on, Kate “started to be very distracted” and seemed “a lot more worried”, Ms Roodt added.
Kate became preoccupied with answering her phone and “being available at all times”.
The court heard Kate is currently a managing partner in the UK branch of Ms Roodt’s business.
Giggs, 48, denies using controlling and coercive behaviour against Ms Greville, assaulting her, causing actual bodily harm, and the common assault of her younger sister.
Last week, the court heard Giggs threw a laptop bag at his ex’s head and kicked her so hard she fell off the bed.
Kate claimed Giggs attacked her at the swanky Stafford Hotel in London in December 2019.
In a witness statement, Kate said the footballer “threw a bag at my head with a laptop in it which caused my head to swell and bruise”.
She also claimed Giggs booted her out the bed and threw her out of the hotel room naked in the alleged attack, which led to the ex-midfielder being arrested.
During cross examination, Giggs’ barrister Chris Daw QC asked if Kate was “trying to make everything sound as bad as it could”.
She replied: “No it was 100 per cent what happened.”
He also quizzed the PR exec over texts the pair exchanged the next day about how hungover they were.
    ‘CYCLE OF ABUSE’
Kate also thanked Giggs for coming to pick her up, saying it was “very lovely” of him.
Mr Daw said: “This was the day after you claim he violently assaulted you and reading these messages we don’t even get a hint of that.”
Kate replied: “He made me feel like it was my fault, he made me feel insecure and made me feel I couldn’t have a problem with what happened because it was my fault.”
She also told how living with Giggs in lockdown was “utter hell” but claimed at that point she was in a “cycle of abuse”.
In her previous evidence, Kate told how she became a “slave to his every need and every demand”.
She added: “He made me feel like I had to do what he said, otherwise there were consequences.”
Kate said she was a “vulnerable” position when their relationship started and claimed Giggs “played on it”.
She also told jurors the ex-footballer “isolated me from certain people” and “interfered with my ability to interact with my family”.

In another alleged violent incident in Dubai in September 2017, Kate claimed she was dragged naked from their hotel bed and pulled across the lounge suite when she said something he “didn’t like”.
She said she was left with a bruise on her arm when she was forced to retrieve her belongings from the hotel corridor naked.

Jurors at Manchester Crown Court were today played a 999 call Emma made on the night of the alleged attack.
Kate can be heard screaming in the background and saying “oh my god, it’s so bad”.
When asked by the operator why her sister is screaming, Emma replies: “She was headbutted in the lip”.

In a second call, Emma says Giggs is “doing a runner” as the operator asks for his name.
The call-handler replies: “As in the Ryan Giggs?”
Emma then tells them: “He said he’s going to headbutt me quite soon… He’s coming back”.
Giggs can be heard in the background of the call asking if she called the police.

He adds: “Kate, Kate, all I wanted was my phone, now we will be everywhere.”
PR exec Kate can still be heard crying in the background of the call as the operator asks if she needs an ambulance.
Emma says: “I don’t know, she’s got a burst lip, I can’t tell you. He’s headbutted her in the face.”
The court also heard from a police officer who arrived at the mansion and saw Kate sitting on the kitchen floor with a “swollen top and bottom lip with significant bruises”.
In bodycam footage of Giggs’ arrest, the footballer claims a row broke out after Kate refused to give him his phone back.
Speaking with blood on his mouth, he says: “We got in a little bit of a tangle, rumbling on the floor there.
“I didn’t know if she had my phone or not, I then tried to get her phone off her and we struggled on the floor and she’s kicked me in the head.”
Giggs continues: “She asked for my phone and there’s been a struggle over there right… I got injured first and then it calmed down.”
    ‘SLAVE’ CLAIMS
The former Wales boss also tells police he loves his cocker spaniel “just as much as Kate” as he’s quizzed at the scene by officers.
Giggs is accused of using controlling and coercive behaviour against Kate over a three-year period.
In her previous evidence, Kate told how she became a “slave to his every need and every demand”.
She added: “He made me feel like I had to do what he said, otherwise there were consequences.”

It was alleged earlier in the trial that the former Man United star, 48, had eight affairs.
Kate wept as she described being in lockdown with him as a “living hell”, a court heard yesterday.
She told jurors that the football legend became “more angry and aggressive” and that it was “a horrific time for me”.

And the jury heard that she told cops he cheated on her with a dozen women.
Footage showed Kate sobbing as she dabbed her lip with a tissue.
She told police: “Basically, I found a load of s**t before I told him and kept it to myself.
“I found he had been cheating on me for the last six years with ten or 12 women.
    Most read in The Sun
“Every time I found something it got worse, I found his iPad, kept it all to myself for two weeks.”
Earlier in the case, the court heard Giggs, 48, had eight affairs, which Greville uncovered on his tablet.
She said they were “full-on relationships that had gone on constantly from 2014”.
The footage emerged on day four of Giggs’s trial at Manchester Crown Court. The ex-Wales international is accused of controlling and coercive behaviour against Kate between August 2017 and November 2020.
He is further accused of assaulting Kate causing actual bodily harm and the common assault of her sister.
    Giggs denies all the charges.
    ‘You’re a manipulator’
    The court also heard that:

    KATE suffered panic attacks during lockdown with Giggs;
    GIGGS allegedly made it difficult for Kate to see friends and family during their relationship;
KATE admitted lying to Giggs about having cancerous cells de- tected in a smear test so she “would not have to have sex with him”.

She broke down in tears as she told a jury how Giggs left her suffering panic attacks after being trapped in a “living hell” during lockdown.
Kate said: “I felt like I was losing my mind. I was having panic attacks. It was a horrific time for me.”
Defence lawyer Chris Daw QC asked her: “You suggested lockdown was a period of living hell and there was nothing good about it.
Basically, I found a load of s**t before I told him and kept it to myself. I found he had been cheating on me for the last six years with ten or 12 women.
“Could you not have stayed at your parents’ house?” Breaking down in tears, she said: “Yes, I wanted to stay with Ryan.
“It was a cycle of abuse that made me feel insecure. I kept going back, he kept promising the world.
“He made me believe that he would not do it again and, stupidly, I went back. I am hugely ashamed of that but I did.” Mr Daw played two videos ofthe pair in lockdown.
They were exercising together in the garden and appeared in a TikTok video rapping to 50 Cent’s In Da Club.
Mr Daw put it to her that lockdown was “hard for everyone” but the couple were doing “fun things” including having Michelin star chefs cook for them, wine tasting on Zoom and online quizzes.
PR executive Kate said: “It was not all fun. It doesn’t mean he was being nice to me all the time.”
    ‘Hugely ashamed’
Kate claimed he had “conditioned” her to reply to text messages within seconds and had isolated her from friends and family. But Mr Daw pointed out a number of photos of Kate on holiday with friends in 2019 and 2020, when she visited Malta, Ibiza, Greece, Portugal and had also been skiing.
Kate denied having “active, regular and very enthusiastic sex” with Giggs at the time she had a contraceptive coil removed — and rejected the suggestion her plan was to get pregnant.
She did admit lying to Giggs by telling him she’d been told she had cancerous cells following a smear test — saying it was to cover up the fact she was going for an STD test, which came back negative. Giggs was branded “a pig” by Kate after she found messages on his phone to another woman after moving in with him during the pandemic.
Following the alleged incident in August 2020 — just five months after they started living together at Giggs’s £1.7million mansion in Worsley, Gtr Manchester — she messaged him: “Thank you for wasting my time you absolute pig. You are vile. Go to hell you absolute skank.
It was a cycle of abuse that made me feel insecure. I kept going back, he kept promising the world.
    “You’re a liar, you’re a cheat, you’re a narcissist, you’re a manipulator, you’re controlling, you’re aggressive, you’re violent, you’re a disappointment. No f*** off out of my life.”
Giggs replied in an email: “That angry you can’t write. Chills. Kate, you didn’t catch me in bed with anyone. I sent a few drunken texts, chills babe. I wish I had cheated now.” In another he said: “Give the therapist a call, Kate.”
Later in the exchange he told her: “I don’t give a f*** about you.”
The mum of one was asked about an alleged incident at The Stafford London hotel on December 6, 2019.
She said Giggs kicked her out of bed and threw a laptop bag at her head, before ejecting her from the room naked.
She also claimed he threw her naked into a hotel corridor in Dubai in September 2017.
Giggs is accused of assaulting Kate on November 1, 2020, following a night out. She said he headbutted her in the face.

Giggs, 48, also allegedly used controlling and coercive behaviour against Kate, 36, and attacked her younger sister Emma at his £1.7million mansion.
Kate is continuing her evidence at Manchester Crown Court today on the forth day of the trial.
She claimed how Giggs attacked her at the swanky Stafford Hotel in London in December 2019.
In a witness statement, Kate said the footballer “threw a bag at my head with a laptop in it which caused my head to swell and bruise”.

She also claimed Giggs booted her out the bed and threw her out the hotel room naked in the alleged attack, which led to the ex-midfielder being arrested.

She also told jurors the footballer “isolated me from certain people” and “interfered with my ability to interact with my family”.
But Mr Daw said the allegations were “lies” and maintained the mark was a “sex injury”.
He added: “It was a bruise caused by rough sex that the two of you enjoyed a lot.”
Kate said: “No, he grabbed me by my wrist and caused bruising.”
    ‘ROUGH SEX TEXTS’
The jury were read WhatsApp messages between the pair that were exchanged over a five day period following the alleged Dubai incident.
Mr Daw read one message from the time, in which Kate wrote: “I want you so badly rough.”
Giggs replied: “Do you? I’m scared of hurting you.”
Kate responded: “I want it to hurt a little. Not in a weird way. I just want you to shock and surprise me.”
Giggs told her “it’s a fine line”, to which Kate said: “We will just have to have fun finding that line then.”
The midfielder then sent a photograph of a sex toy, a paddle, in an Agent Provocateur box.
Kate asked: “What is that? Xx.”
Giggs replied: “You asked me to be a bit more assertive.”
She wrote: “I’m intrigued. When are you using this?”
He then sent a photo of a pair of handcuffs and said: “Just after you have used this.”
Kate wrote back: “Amazing,” and Giggs replied: “They f***ing are.”
She told jurors on Tuesday how she first had sex with Giggs in December 2014 while on a work event at a hotel in London and she left her husband the following February.
Kate claims the ex-Wales international grabbed her by the shoulders and headbutted her in November 2020 after she confronted him about his serial cheating.

Giggs denies using controlling and coercive behaviour between August 2017 and November 2020, assault, causing actual bodily harm and common assault relating to Emma.

Quebecs independent police watchdog said the Montreal police tactical unit was at a motel at about 7am for a search linked to the investigation into three homicides in Montreal and Laval in the past two days.
The watchdog said officers were confronted by a suspect with a firearm.
Shots were fired and the man was struck by at least one bullet and pronounced dead at the scene.
The police operation comes after a pair of killings about 65 minutes apart and just a few miles from each other on Tuesday evening in two Montreal boroughs.

Police said they could not rule out the victims were chosen at random.
And one of the men killed was identified as Andre Fernand Lemieux, 64, the father of Canadian middleweight boxer David Lemieux.
Another victim was Mohamed Salah Belhaj, 48, an intervention officer at a local mental health hospital.
The 33-year-old Lemieux, a former IBF middleweight title holder, confirmed the news by uploading a post on his Instagram with a picture of his father accompanied by the caption “R.I.P. dad.”

He went on to explain to Le Journal de Montreal: “To learn that your father died by being shot while waiting for the bus is quite a shock. Everyone in the family is shaken.”
Police found the body of Lemieux’s father around 9:45 p.m. near a park in the St-Laurent borough of Quebec where he was declared dead at the scene after reportedly being shot at least once in the upper body.
Cops killed alleged suspect 26-year-old Abdulla Shaikh, who appears to have suffered from mental health issues and is believed to have chosen his victims at random, two days after his alleged attack began.
Lemieux (43-5, 36 KOs) claimed the IBF middleweight title in 2015 via a unanimous decision over Hassan N’Dam.
He has also come up short in other championship bouts against Gennadiy Golovkin and Billy Joe Saunders.
